Been reading a review of Auto Aussault and the PvP in that looks awsome. Linked Arena so you will be fight people form all over the world special items you can only get from arena or PvP fights. If they added stuff like that in to CoX you might get more people doing PvP.
Review here

The temp powers in pvp zones you can get only there.FYI the auto assault pvp needs a lot of work.A LOT of work.Really unblanaced for now and some powers work really bad. -
Happy Birthday Cyn all the best wishes!!Hope the nurses come find you today
for some "treatment"

You are absolutely right TG, there certainly are people who play the non-min/max builds, but by no means enough of them IMO. I think allowing a separate PvP build wouldn't encourage them - the playing field needs to be fair, so that player skill, not build, determines success. By focusing on build, it would discourage this.
(I'm of the opinion that PvP should be 90% skill 10% build - at the moment it feels like those figures are reversed)
[/ QUOTE ]
I have to say i see your point. I was just amazed how well it works in GW but then GW has far more balanced powers and is totally team based PvP -
Imho we are as good in PvP as the French its just that we havent yet pulled all the best players in one team to go down the test server and have a proper 8vs8. Maybe i am wrong this is just my opinion.

[ QUOTE ]
I do see the gameplay features in RV as an attempt to address the imbalances in PvP.
Your character is weak in PvP? You can control a giant robot to fight for you.
You have a PvP build that is weak in PvE? You will struggle to fight the NPC Heroes/AVs that spawn in.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know what i see?The experienced PvPers will be ripping the AV's apart due to experience plus they will rip apart the people trying to control the robots. And right now the experience lies significantly towards the hero side especially at level 50. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm really looking forward to RV, but will be spending time in Sirens and Warburg as I do now too, because each of them offers a different challenge. But for now, you'll see me (maybe ) in sirens. I'll be the one singing as I assassins strike
[/ QUOTE ] Problem is right now to encourage casual gamers they should lock level 50 toons out of lower level PvP zones cause they are overpowered. Thats why higher level stalkers going into Sirens have a blast.
As for the PvP slot.Giving the casual gamer to create a toon he believes will work in PvP i think is preffered. Not everyone plays a stalker you know in PvP or an ice/nrg. I pvp on a ice/rad,Ar/Dev,earth/storm,DM/Regen,elec,elec,mind/psi.Nothing of the min max builds. And there are loads of people playing tankers or builds that simply are not the best PvP ones but still have loads of fun.Problem is they dont have the luxury of creating the build the way they want for PvP.A PvP slot would allow this. -
[ QUOTE ]
A ranking system is a dreadful idea, Rep is already a bad mechanism, encouraging PvP specific builds and gearing the system to a few archetypes is a way to reduce PvP involvement with the playerbase not increase it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Filth i have to agree to that sorry i didnt clarify my post. The ranking system i would like to see should be based not on amount of kills but on quality of kills pretty much just like it works on WoW. For high ranked characters killing low level ones should be worthless thus making achieving higher rating possible only through fighting equal opponents. Furthermore the creation of PvP slot in the character list would allow people to create the PvP toon they want on the go. The problem is many people dont have the will to level up and grind for a PVP toon 50 levels.Someone siad i think Hammerfall such a solution is not viable. GuildWars uses a PVP slot that u can create any toon with PvP build that stays only within PvP zones. The PvP rep there is on the account and not on the toon.Which is a also something nice. To unlock the PvP powers in your PvP slot you need to go through the PvE of the game. This can be implemented in the game by having to go through the arcs giving also an end to Powerevelling n a way since if you want to unlock the powers for your PvP slot you need run the arcs of the game at least one. -
I said it before. To bring masses in PvP zones the solutions are simple and i am curious why the Devs not implement them.
Ranking System
Remove PvP rep cap
PvP character Slots that will remove the need for PvP builds
and will allow to create a PvP character on the go and simply enter straight away the PvP zone. Without the option to exit from it.
Special PvP rewards that do not interfere with PvE (ranked emotes,Ranked auras,Ranked animations,Ranked temp powers_
PvP in game Hall of Fame
Remove debt from pvp zones
Link the EU PvP zones to each other
Create an international PvP server where Korea,USA,Europe players battle it out giving the opportunity for worldwide CoH events
Solve asap major PvP issues such as toggle dropping
Allow Villains and Heroes teaming in warburg
Lower base item prices so that smaller SG's can participate in Base Raiding. -

nope, as you cant prove a new theorem, you can only disprove (??? not english myself :P) it. Just like in mathematics. Thus, when we call ourselves the greatest PvP SG there is, and when we've got the authority to make such a call (which i like to think we have to a certain extend) we ARE the greatest PvP SG untill proven wrong
[/ QUOTE ]
Theorem: An idea that has been demonstrated as true
To be the best PvP Supergroup you need to beat every Supergroup on Defiant from CoH and CoV. Since you havent fought every SG on Defiant based on a sample of 5 Supergroups that means you havent beaten all of them which mean your theorem hasnt been demonstrated. Therefore Shift you are responsible for proving the OP wrong.
Remember Mathematics+Greeks+someone elses attempt to be rhetorical = Ownage

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually you dont. Authority like this within communities comes either through appointed representatives, community indicative sampling questionnaire or a community voting.
Although i would vote the PD's as one of the best overall. -
[ QUOTE ]
By how much?
Obviously not so much that it makes blasters totally unviable in any kind of melee pvp situation, but enough to give everyone a chance and remove that bloody 'YOU POPPED A PURP!!1 N00b!1' problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
What does purple insps have o do with toggle dropping?? -
[ QUOTE ]
m in a PvP clan in RF at the mo and even they siad that PvP is pointless in this game and has no place. You cant have big fights as the client will just lag out on you you cant solo certian builds and some builds have no place in PvP what so ever. If you want PvP I would say get anothert game that dose PvP well rather than the half arsed effort that this game offers up.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is an unthought and totally faulty response.RF online has a mass scale PvP that is really unbalanced plus very narrow. Specific powers and armours that come down to 2 or 3 are the way to go for PvP.Just because a bunch of koreans that like potting every 10 sec think this is good pvp game doesnt mean it is.Dont be a victim.I was in best PvP clan in RF Beta and there were numerous issues discussed on the boards that exceeded imagination.Exploits, bugs and loopwholes and even bots and macros.
The PvP in CoH will change a lot with RV. A zone where a total of 6 teams is required to achieve victory by securing each pillbox as they progress promotes the game from a simple pvp element and adding a lot of strategy and adding new dimension to many powers.Team teleporters and group flyers will have key roles in that zone. Advanced targeters and new strategies should actually come in play.
Bottom line is...CoH pvp is awsome but THERE ARE NO REWARDS that will actually draw the people in.Not even a ranking system. And if the Devs not implement one soon and give something besides crappy SO and missiles that drop from skys but something special they will see tumbleweed in PvP zones during time. -
[ QUOTE ]
o.O
Strange...
Still, toggle dropping could use a bit of attention :S
[/ QUOTE ]
and it is getting attention in i7 by being toned down -
lol that was you funky!!?? Comment of the night " I take back all i said about your mothers they are saints" lol!!!

Surely playing all ATs well is about learning what powers are most useful and how to use them? Doing paper mishs goes quite a bit towards learning how to hit and run which is all stalkers need to do, at least in 1v1 and also to some extent in teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is true. The paper mission way to levelling a stalker is considered now a trend amongst stalkers in usa and here as well and therefore most stalkers out there get very limited chance to learn function in teams and how to cooperate with villain AT buffs and debuffs.I seen stalkers attacking other targets rather than the ones being debuffed because they not know the function of debuffs.
[ QUOTE ]
True stalkers dont have that many other ways to fight and it could be argued that it takes far more skill to play a troller, dom or MM well but then that goes for other ATs like scrappers, which lets face it take hardly any more skill to play then stalkers.
[/ QUOTE ]
You cannot compare the amount of effort a controller/dominator blaster/corrupter requires to a stalker. Is totally different in terms of creativity space and roles within teams and pvp zones.Scrappers differ vastly to stalkers although they share a lot of common powers. The way a scrapper can be played in team with taunting roles or baiting the tankers or the opposite team debuffers is really far from the way a stalker is played. A stalker is basically a surgical tool. Acquire target and remove then run away and try survive. No taunt,no stand ground and gather attention. With the level 38 powers in play this might change a bit but this power last a bit and not changes drastically the stalker playstyle.
[ QUOTE ]
Problem ppl have with stalkers isnt that they take less skill to play but that they can one shoot you IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
One shoting is not a problem.I been saying since beta i dont want stalkers loosing the one shot advantage cause thats what they are best at.Take this away and is like throwing the AT to garbage.Problem is a increasing amount of stalkers thinking they are "awsome" because they play a stalker good, when it actually takes minimum skill to do so. Funny thing is they havent played any other AT yet they know everything.Thats the most irritating and there is an increasing amount of this type in pvp zones. -
yeah is the same a gravity brute running force of nature... lol

Hover/fly is usefull untill some git impales you.
[/ QUOTE ]
u sux u git
Also i think it all comes down to personal taste then.I hadnt noticed the knockback difference in hover and fly but i will still prefer overall maneuverability over hover. I always slot fly with end reducers anyway and i make sure i get in stamina pvp builds and not in non stamina ones...but then again is down to personal taste maybe. -
The regualr battles in sirens last for hours....thats not really fast paced is it??One death might come fast but the overall battle goes on for too long.As for tactics in PvP believe it or not in open battles tactics are alpha and omega. You can have the best builds out there without tactics you are crippled.
No targetter,no focused fire,no target calling,no buffing order,no target assist,no movement control check all leads to chaos even to a team with 8 cookie cutter builds. -

Fire/fire blaster???

FTW!!
Congrats Jag - wowzers!!
[/ QUOTE ]
i am sure he is laughing with the FTW comment -
[ QUOTE ]
I use hover on both my pvp alts the one main reason i take it is it stops knock back which means i can get another shot in with out wasting time having to pick myself up again of the floor it can be a life saver. Also if youre quick enough u can flip between hover and fly which helps with endurance use.
I notice also knock back is a very useful tool in pvp as again it gives u more time to get another shot off before ur target can. But it kind of falls apart if ur target has some kind of knock back protection like hover.
But i guess like most powers its how u use them that makes the difference between its being a rubbish power and a good one.
[/ QUOTE ]
The reason i say fly over hover is because fly also functions in the same way as hover in knockback situations plus is much faster for maneuverability. If u use hover to avoid knockback and try to maneuver u are likely to end up licking the floor cause u are too slow.
The only reason to prefer hover over fly in pvp is
1)if u cant afford the slots for end reduction that you might need
2) you wanna sign a death contract for being too slow and really not agile in terms of maneuvering around.
[ QUOTE ]
But i guess like most powers its how u use them that makes the difference between its being a rubbish power and a good one.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am sorry but in the case of fly and hover is more a question if u wanna spare 2 slots for end reduction or not.But then again if u pick hover u gonna need 3 slots anyway for slotting speed inside. So you end up in the same root as with fly.
Fly>hover in pvp thats for sure. -
lol jag u mad mad mad.....congrats mate
well done as always...now jag needs 8 dates for his 8 toons to be happy
So jag whats next? Fire/fire blaster??? or maybe an arrow/devices???? oh no i know you gonna play a trick arrow controller for sure -
[ QUOTE ]
hover can be good with TP I guess
[/ QUOTE ]
Well true...but will need slotting if it is to use as a fly besides a stand still between tp's -

I wont name the latest ones like Krunch and Tanaka or Smirk,Northi but Hackitoff,Stalk-obot,Gimpman are names that when they played across the zones it was always an awsome laugh and a lot of effort no matter if heroes died or villains died. With excellent gaming sessions and good laughs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Remember when gimpman was sneaking in and killing us in our own gank box of death lol

*remmebers gankbox* *reads test server patch notes for hurricane* *hugs pillow and cries*..... -
[ QUOTE ]
Is Hover a useful power?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not in PvP.The best pvp route when building your AT is getting air superiority which is a really useful power for knocking flyers off the air.
Fly you can slot with speed and endurance reduction making what hover does 10 times better. And you not waste 1 power slot on a fly look alike power with less speed.
Maneuverability is what u need in PvP and fly provides 10 times the maneuvarability hover does.
