Quote:We don't expect much from most in management. The Dilbert "pointy haired boss" is sadly pretty accurate.'Cause patronizing your technical people when you don't understand the problems they're up against trying to fulfill your clueless edicts is clearly the best strategy for leveraging your development assets. They teach that in all the best business administration programs.

Now compare that to what we got 1 month after the game launched back in 2004.
Go ahead we'll wait.
What's the matter. You want to try to compare the amount of content we got over a period of seven and a half YEARS to what we've gotten during the past month since Freedom launched? Pardon our howls of derisive laughter at that idea.
Edit Or are you actually arguing that we should pay less because we get more for free? That's even more hilarious. -
Well now they can hate him for having all the shinies for having no life like them but if he could have bought them then they won't know whether to hate him for being rich or for having more free time than they do.

Quote:This is meaningless unless you only mean PvP and since our PvP isn't balanced anyway...You totally miss the point. CoH, last time I checked, is a game, and games are generally supposed to provide a level playing field where cash doesn't provide an advantage (F1 and the Yankees notwithstanding.)
Just because money provides an advantage in real life doesn't mean that it should in games. -
Quote:I am okay with them being able to buy everything. As long as the price is relative to the offset effort.Since this seems to be a common response in this thread, I would like to ask the people who are taking that position this:
If a brand new player who started playing yesterday purchasing the rarest and 'best' gear for real money is perfectly acceptable, as long as it can also be earned through normal play, no matter how much time and effort it may take the regular player, where do you draw the line on what is acceptable?
Is anything acceptable for real money purchase as long as it can also be earned through regular play?
If a player spends years working on earning 1200+ badges, is it acceptable that the hypothetical brand new player with more $$ than sense, be able to buy every badge in the game for real money through the market?
Is it acceptable to buy XP for cash? How about levels? Level 0-50 instantly for PP? How about accolades like TF Commander or Portal Jockey? All these things provide tangible, in-game benefits to the player.
If, to you, it is perfectly acceptable for a someone to pay cash to buy all the rarest enhancements that it may have taken another player months of effort to earn, then it follows that all of my above examples should be fine as well.
If XP, levels, badges, etc. for cash is not acceptable to you, but enhancements are, I'm genuinely curious as to why..
ETA: What about Incarnate slots and powers? I really hate grinding those trials over & over to get all those tier 4 powers. Why not spend some cash and bypass all that?
Fine. If you want to play semantics and get tunnel vision over the wording that I used, let's call it "Pay for performance" instead of "pay to win". Is that a more acceptable term?
I'm glad some people seem to get the point of this thread..
The +1 enhancement boosters give so little boost for the buck if someone wants to thrown their money at NC let them.
If someone wants to spend silly amounts of money for badges, let them.
If NC let people spend crazy money to get purples and PvP IOs now, let them.
As long as you keep it vague and theoretical it can be made to sound worse than it really it. Put it in terms of % performance per $ then we'll talk. -
Quote:If I read it right he is saying he is cancelling his sub and moving from VIP to Premium and implying the majority will follow him. I could be wrong but that's how I read it.Am I reading the thread title wrong, then? I read it as saying that Premiums will somehow cut in on the VIPs' "turf" thereby making the VIP option less appealing and making just going Premium a better bet. If this really is about Incarnates, then how are Premium players even relevant if they can't even buy access to the Incarnate system unless they go VIP?
That's not punishment, it's diminishing returns, and it's been in the game in one form or another since ED. Well, unless you want to argue that ED "punishes" you for slotting too many enhancements of the same type. If the development team was ACTUALLY punishing you, they'd wait until you've actually done the Trial then take away your rewards and temp-ban you. Instead, they are telling you up-front: This will not give you a very good reward. If you choose to run the content despite the warning, then you have implicitly accepted it. -
Quote:I don't believe Zombies have never left corpses for our warshades to work with and all the foes are zombies.None of the mobs in the Halloween Trial leave corpses when they die, despite the fact that that's basically all they are. Warshades can't heal, summon pets, or make explosions if there aren't any corpses. It's annoying to be locked out of three of your powers for the whole trial.

Anyone else reminded of the AE fix threads by this one? You know the ones where the devs closed an exploit and all the exploiters came in yelling and screaming about it?
-
Quote:You will never know because I am certainly not interested in informing posters like you and the others.Oooh, is it that you'll actually answer something and not just deflect the questions by trying to appear witty?
Can you predict which ones are affected? If not, you have to either chance burning a weekly hero merit or burn two days and be sure to get the SSA merit, per character. And speaking assumptions, you're assuming it was the three that were bugged and not the ten. -
Quote:So remember to turn it back on when you rez. The stinker stomps hard. The text for Tricked Out just says while killing the Abmoniation, but it probably wouldn't hurt to wear one for the whole trial just in case.

The answer was posted before you went ballistic a few pages ago. If you want to blow a cork on false assumptions feel free but I don't feel any need to educate you.

Quote:Just to re-post: He had the bug on 3 of 13 characters not all of them. Does it suck for the 3? Yes. Is it all heroes/villains? Obviously not. This hasn't been 100% my experience, and hence a big part of my confusion.
I ran the SSA yesterday with 13 different characters, and 10 of them got Alignment Merits.
The 3 that did not were:
A level 20 Scrapper (makes sense given the new confirm alignment patch, since she has never even done a tip)
A level 50 Defender with the alignment power
A level 50 Corruptor with the alignment power
I ran 5 tip missions and an alignment mission with my Defender and got 50 Merits (instead of an alignment merit), then reran the SSA and got an alignment merit.
It really seems all over the map here. -
Quote:You're also assuming something. I'll wait and see if you find out what it is.You assume which makes you wrong.
The characters in quesiton are heroes/villains and they have been through the Alignment system to be a hero or villain. Now, I have to redo that process across those characters in order to obtain the same reward I was getting before this fix.
It's a big inconvenience for people with limited play time man. -
Quote:One of us is wrong about the situation. When that person realizes it if it is me I will return and say so. Will you if it is you?Ya, I know that. I have to run at least 121 missions to get just 11 of my characters back to the way they were PRIOR to this 'fix.' That is, able to earn Hero/Villain Merits from the SSA.
Oh boy. 2 x 4 Merits! Joy!
No. I want to not be inconvenience by the developers and be forced to run 11 missions per character in order to receive a reward that I was able to receive prior to their exploit fix.
I'm not delusional to think I'll get any type of response from a redname, let alone any fix. But I'm going to complain about being inconvenienced yet again. -
No hyperbole in this response is there? /em eyeroll
-
Quote:You don't have to run the tips all the time, just the one 11 mission cycle once per character at level 20+ to unlock the ability to get the hero/villain merit.I have a hard time expressing how deeply annoyed I am at this, exploit or no. I don't typically run Tip missions on my characters but I do run the SSAs. Now I am required to spend all of my ingame time to run these tip missions.
Very frustrating.
Why again are we bashing on Shubbie? Seems like this is a legitimate gripe.
You can still get reward merits which is the standard reward for characters who have not run the full hero/villain tips cycle or for those who have opted for vigilante/rogue standing. -

Quote:I'm not sure this is true any more with the Incarnate trials and stuff for that kind of player. The people that do this don't care about what they skip. They are only concerned about endgame. They can't understand that this game isn't all about the endgame. In their minds they can't enjoy a game unless they are all powerful.
I say let them have at it. The sooner they realize this isn't the type of game they like the sooner they'll leave. Don't force them to be miserable. Then they'll only hang around complaining and scaring away players that would like the game.
I enjoy all of the game but Incarnates have breathed new life into my 50s and sometimes I struggle with my lower level characters when I play them until I can change my thinking to enjoy playing at the lower levels. -

Quote:Same here.I didn't get any "early" tokens:
By my calculations I've been given the following Reward Tokens- 26 Token = Veteran Reward Conversion as of August 2011 (78 month Veteran Status as of August 12, 2011)
- 06 Token = 6 Years subscription
- 01 Token = Free token for everyone, including F2P players
- 01 Token = Retail Code Applied to the account.
36 tokens for 87 months (August) plus 1 free plus 1 retail plus 9 from a $100 first paragon points purchase for 47 tokens. Nothing more.
Second account 25 tokens for 60 months in August plus 1 free plus 1 retail plus 2 from a $15 first paragon points purchase for 29 tokens. Nothing more. That account goes premium on Oct. 29
