Oh. Didn't notice that (bolded) bit either. Mine is showing at 4 years, 3 months. I'm nearly five years. Wonder where the missing months went?
  2. We can now view our current Paragon Point total on the Game Account Details page (on the NCsoft website). Cool. I like it.

I've a question though: Where did the points we've been accumulating go?

    Because they aren't there.

Copied my test install over the live install, did a consistency check. Worked perfectly.

Both my beta install and my test install are the same version. I wonder what the difference is. Now to wait for the servers to go online and accessible.

Which is fine, and true, and everything. They don't have to pay. No one is making them. They can do the content themselves. No need for a farmer ...

But they don't want the content. They want the rewards; as rapidly as possible. Faster than they can do it themselves. And if they want that ... they are at the mercy of those who are able and willing to give them what they want.

A game is about having fun. What you find fun isn't necessarily what I find fun. What I find fun isn't necessarily what you find fun. Different strokes for different folks, ya know?

This is the way it should be.

Some people enjoy accumulating one pretty number (experience), some enjoy accumulating a different pretty number (influence), some people enjoy accumulating badges, some people enjoy the costumes, some people enjoy the trials, etc, etc, etc ...

Some people have to do stuff they don't like in a game so that they can do the things they do like in a game. (I hate the low-level game with a burning passion, for example. Game doesn't start until the low 30s.) If one has fun endlessly tweaking your builds (playing with numbers), then one needs similarly endless supplies of the stuff that let you tweak your builds (inf, recipes, salvage).

I'm going to have to think about this.

    Hmm.

I wouldn't expect a significant majority. I wouldn't even expect a significant minority. I would expect a noticeable amount (from NCsoft / Paragon Studios perspective at least).

Do note that I'm an "ebil farmer ruining the game for everyone! mwahahahaha!" because I run ticket farms solo, slowly, on my tankers and other characters. I (rarely) take a friend or two with me on those ticket farms; the XP is terrible, I'm sure. Not that my 50s can tell.

    I am hardly without bias.

Because certain people have decided that a non-exploit style of gameplay (that isn't theirs) is badwrongfun and should be stamped out with excessive force.

However ... If the Devs wanted to get rid of it, its' simple enough to put a GM (or three) in the problem zones/servers, monitor chat and start handing out tempbans for everyone who asks for a farm and everyone who offers a farm while spamming a global announcement every 10 minutes that farming is no longer tolerated in COH. Encourage everyone to report farms and farmers and those farmed; act on those reports. It should take a week or so.

They'd lose a lot of customers doing it, but ... they can do it. It is within their power to do so. They haven't done this (to my knowledge; maybe I missed the announcements), so ... why haven't they? Anyone know? *curious*

I don't know what to say. I really don't. Either I'm communicating poorly or ...

I shall be generous and assume that I'm communicating poorly rather than cast aspersions on your character and intelligence.

    Numbers:

    Live Server:
    - Local Version: 2060.201108180101.1.0
    - Server Version: 2060.201108180101.1.0

    Test Server:

    - Server Version: 2100.201109080039.1.0

    Beta Server:
    - Local Version: 2100.201109080039.1.0
    - Server Version: 2100.201109080039.1.0

The Live install version is going to be the same or slightly higher than the Beta (or Test) install version this Tuesday when they push I21 to the Live servers. Guess which version is going to have to download more to fully update? v2060 or v2100?

Light Form's crash will reset your health to full and then remove half of it, leaving you at 50% HP. If you were at less than 50% HP at the time it crashes, Light Form's crash will actually heal your character up to having 50% HP.

I've never asked anyone for any kind of compensation for helping them out in a computer game. i don't doubt the inf/time ratio so much as how much you reckon it costs the farmer to bring a passenger, as in 3 runs etc. Assuming the passenger doesn't contribute and actually make the run faster. Seriously, get off your high horse.
You know of many "passengers" who can take up to eight +4/x8 spawns with bosses whacking on them at the same time? There is such a thing as an aggro cap. (16.) Most passengers end up eating floor while the farmer does the work for them.

If they can take it, they're farmers themselves and so don't need another farmer to do the work for them.

Not so. I'd call them stupid for voluntarily taking such losses unless other factors are more important to them.

Average XP Farmer (w/ Group): 8 - 13 minutes per map, assuming 10 minutes for these purposes.
Ticket Cap per Map: 1500 Tickets, assuming they are doing the useful ones.
Ticket to INF: 550 tickets for 1.5 million influence, assuming the worst possible method of spending tickets
INF per Map from Tickets: 4 million

    With me so far? Cool.

Average Ticket Farmer (Solo or Special Map): 3 - 8 minutes per map (no bosses), assuming 5 minutes for these purposes.
Ticket Cap per Map: 1500 Tickets
Ticket to INF: 550 tickets to 1.5 million influence
INF per Map from Tickets: 4 million

    Following along are we? Good.

30 minutes of farming: XP Farmer makes 12 million influence. Ticket Farmer makes 24 million influence. An hour of farming: XP Farmer makes 24 million influence. Ticket Farmer makes 48 million influence. Etc. Assuming both are stupid about how they spend their tickets.

Does this mean that XP Farmers who farm for free are generous? Not necessarily. They are either ignorant or some other factor is more important to them than making influence alone. Usually, some other factor is more important. That may, or may not, be generosity. Depends on the player.

Still as far as separation mechanics go, access to First Ward content is something that isn't entirely accessible without being a VIP or having bought into it. Not sure that's really functionally useful in regards to an event, but it may not be that far off the map either.
Replace 'event' with 'zombie invasion' or 'rikti invasion', and note that the non-VIP shouldn't even be able to see the event happening let alone participate in or benefit from it. I suppose they could use the phasing tech involved in the new starter zones as a base to build on, but I don't know how scalable that is.

However what I don't fully understand about that stance is the why a VIP playing on a "standard" server should be treated differently than a VIP on Exalted. I take no issue with there being Exalted-exclusive events mind, I'm just not sure it's logically consistent that two VIPs who pay the same subscription fees might be treated rather differently just because one elected to move/reroll on Exalted.
Because, outside of putting in "no free or premium allowed" mechanics that block the free and premium accounts from even seeing the events let alone interacting with them, the only place to give the VIP VIP-only events is the VIP server.

I don't believe we have the tech to effectively remove entire swathes of players and do the "you're not special enough" blocking. Maybe if they made VIP-only instances of every world zone in the game along with a no-recharge-required VIP-only power used to switch between VIP-only and Accessible-to-all instances?

1200 paragon points worth of stuff monthly, at minimum, preferably more. Somewhere between 400~800 paragon points per week would be optimal.

I am given to understand that they are aiming for weekly.

You will have to download a patch. I'm relatively certain that what is going on live isn't precisely what they have on the beta nor on test. They will have some adjustments. However, copying over the last known good install and patching from that is going to save you a multi-gb download.

Or you can try copying your beta install over to your test install and patching (if at all) from there, and so avoid the 2.5 gb test update patch. The same process should be a time-saver on the live servers once they patch with the new issue. This is standard operating procedure for COH. I'm surprised you don't know this already.

Worst case you have to download the entire thing anywise. In which case you lose nothing from trying. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Sounds nice, I'll have to add those things to my calendar so I don't forget to show up. They should do stuff like that every week on the VIP server (only).
