I heartily agree (and thanks Mr. A!). I was a little bummed when Juggs lost his files, but I'm sure he was even more upset. So I had consigned myself to waiting until after the New Year for the piece, the concept of which I was really excited to see put in action. Waking up to find it already done today was an excellent early Christmas gift.
Might give this one a title...like, "What Aggro Cap?", or something.
Thanks again Juggertha, I'm blown away! -
Hm...seems like everyone's mostly all over the place, with the bulk being in the Envisionaries trifecta. Maybe we could have an in-game Art Forumite "meet and greet" type of thing in Test sometime (or something).
And yes, that means you have to come, Niviene. -
Hey folks...through my (mostly) lurking and (occasional) posting here, one question has always tugged at my mind...where the heck are these folks in-game? I've seen a couple of the signature characters on Virtue (Soul, one of TL's villains, and of course PinUp and Proud Citizen), but for the most part my only exposure to these characters is here on the boards. So I was just wondering when and where everyone plays; mostly just to satisfy my own curiosity, but hey, who knows....maybe someday we can put together the best darn looking TF the game's ever seen.
(For my part, I'm on Virtue, and typically play after 7 pm Eastern time. ) -
Wow, definitely second TA's sentiment, the axe really is iconic. And I really dig the expression on her face, too; heckuva job pulling that off with just a few lines.

I say FireBrandi vs. Turbo-ski. =P Quit mentioning me everyone.

Whoops, must have missed that post. Well then, from a purely Forum Poster perspective...having a TA & Juggs piece would be nice... -
Since Bayani's getting mentioned a lot, I think it'd be cool to see him go toe-to-toe (or back-to-back, cooperatively) with Comrade Hero; two classic heroes duking it out.
-
Just to clarify; is this people's forum avatars battling it out, or their "signature characters"?
-
Sweet, thanks Chill! I can't wait. Oh, and just do what I do...sleep with coffee. Just buy it dinner first.
-
That's my favorite of yours yet, Rosen; downright photo-realistic!

The irony on my end is that I was having issues with crashing earlier in the day, then later at night I was sailing along pretty smoothly. Then they took all the servers down for about an hour and a half to fix the crash bug, and now I can't get back in.
Oh well, there's always tomorrow. -

Sorry, Storm Devil, I'm already in deep with the Artfather. Any more loans and I'll be sleeping with the watercolor markers .

So that's how you get so many pieces...

Ooooh! This one will be good. :-) Aynjel is prepping your order now!
Thank you, Storm!

You folks know of my character? Color me flattered! Thanks for the quick attention, filling out my survey now. -

Having a small web issue with the surveys...
Came in to fix it today.
Oh, how I miss our web-guy right now!!!

Is that issue still ongoing? I didn't get a survey screen, either. -
I just had to get myself one of these...I'm going to have to hit up MaskedShrike for an Artz Money Loan pretty soon.

Ha, yeah, the quick reply was the benefit of killing time until i13 goes live. By the by, Storm Devil is a Fire/Storm Controller, while Baron Winter is an Ice/Cold Corona...er, Corruptor.
-
Me please! I'd love it if you took a crack at either my hero, Storm Devil, or my villain, Baron Winter.
Thanks if you choose me, can't wait to see what you come up with even if you don't. -
*bit of a necro*
Thanks for this Guide, Turbo. I'd been trying to decide if I wanted to make an Ice/Ice Dom or an Ice/Cold Corr, but this guide and the recent addition of Power Boost to the Corruptor Patron Pools has easily pushed the Corr to the forefront.
Quick question; I'm trying to plan out my endgame build, and I'm undecided between Soul Drain or Dark Embrace to unlock Power Boost. My instinct is to go with Soul Drain, does that sound like the best bet?
Thanks again, great guide. -

Storm Devil:
Great story and concept (and a damn good picture, too). I really like the character. The main thing I'd suggest at this point is adding a "powers" section, laying out in a little more detail exactly what he can do. Also, since he's 50, you might want to mention some of the notable things he's done and people he's met on the way there. Your "What Happened Next" header seems to point in that direction already.

Thanks a ton, and yeah, that picture is great; my next little edit is actually giving credit where credit is due once the artist gives me a link to use. SD *was* 50, but he's now 25. I'll be including his exploits on his first trip to 50, and quite a lot more; I'm trying to fill in all of his backstory/information chronologically.
Thanks for the feedback! -
Finally decided to whip one of these up for myself; it's in its very, very early stages of development, so if anyone has any critiques/tips/pointers, I'd be absolutely thrilled to hear them.
Here's Storm Devil. -
Another cool piece, congrats DE.
One quick question; you've got "Character copyright to me" in the description. I was under the impression that any character created for City of Heroes falls under their copyright banner. True/False? (Mostly wondering because this is what I was told when I once floated the idea of a comic featuring one of my CoH characters). -
Very cool piece, it does indeed look like a still from a Comrade Hero cartoon.
...from what exactly was Comrade Hero saving the scientist...? -
Oh, heck yeah, everyone was doing it. I think there are some differences between the Claremont/Lee X-Men book, the Death of Superman story arc, and what Image/Valinat were doing, though.
The first two were (obviously IMO) a quality book for a while (at least for the first story arc), and a legitimate media event. The Image and Valiant books, OTOH, were (again, IMO) subpar by comparison, not to mention the fact that they were horribly unprofessional when they first started up. What was the wait time between issues of Portacio's "Wetworks", 6 months? Eight? When those fellas worked for one of the Big Two, they'd have just been canned and replaced. When it happens on creator owned books, well, whaddyagonnado? -
I don't really think Image's, or Liefeld's for that matter, successes had much at all to do with the quality of the writing or art. Image, as well as Valiant, were started during the ridiculous era of "comics as collectibles", as opposed to being things one enjoys. There was a goodly long stretch when Wizard magazine included the preposterous "Comic Book Portfolio" section, wherein varied "collectors" showcased their never opened, hermetically sealed comics.
Image and Valiant were the new kids at that time, and used scads of silly "promotional" tricks such as variant covers, die-cut covers, hologram covers, etc., all to try to sell the same issue multiple times. And sadly, it worked. It's pretty obvious that the people willing to buy all 6 covers of, heck I dunno, Ninjak number 1 or something didn't really care about what happened between the covers. -
One quick point, in re: to Ironik mentioning the artist/writer wage split (and we'll use the 60/40 figure, as I've no idea how to verify or challenge that)...
I'm imagining that the Big Two pay their employees along the same lines as most companies; for "value added" output. In other words, a known and popular artist will add more value to a book than a known and popular writer. Possibly true, possibly not. I think the split probably comes from the vastly different time it takes for writers and artists to do their jobs.
Here's a true (anecdotal) story: a comics writer is having drinks with one of his mates. The writer says, "Hey, want to see me make sixty dollars real quick?" His mate says, "Sure". The writer grabs a cocktail napkin and writes, "Page 2, Single Panel: Establishing Shot, NYC Skyline".
That did happen (I'm not personally involved in that story, but it still cracks me up). So the writer makes 60 bucks for his 5 seconds of "work", but then it's up to the artist to draw NYC's skyline, which will presumably take more than 5 seconds. So, the artists making more than the writers is a fair deal, I'd say.
...I used to own all of the Rob Liefeld New Mutants issues....oh, to be young...
