  1. So, I've been leveling up a Dark/Fire, and he just got really fun (the Fury>Soul Drain>Blazing Aura combo). Poking around in Mids, the best I've been able to hit so far is around 37% to S/L. I'm really hoping to be able to either softcap S/L, or get around 30% to all 3 positions.

Anyone able to do any better?
  2. I've got a WP/SS on the "other" side, and I actually stuck the FF Proc in FS's default slot. Chances are, you're going to toss 5 slots in FS during the next two levels anyway. Add in Rage's toHit buff, and you don't really need to fill FS's default slot with Accuracy right off the bat.
  3. I had some problems with my ATI card, but after updating the driver and doing that whole, "Disable All" deal vis a vis Startup programs, everything's cool. Bear in mind that disabling ALL your Startups may or may not be the world's best idea; until I can figure out which ones cause the problems, I just Disable All right before I log in to the game, then Enable All once I'm back out.
  4. Given the increased survivability (perceived of real) of your average hero, efficient (IMO, YMMV, etc.) Tanking tactics have changed a bit.

There's no real need anymore to stand at a corner, say "Here", go grab aggro, and bring 'em back. You'll still see it occasionally, but it seems like your average team finds that pretty boring...and I don't really blame 'em.

My personal Tanking playstyle is to herd the next spawn. Once that first batch of badguys is relatively whittled down, I just jump to the next spawn and use old-school herding tactics. Rest of the team finishes up the previous batch, comes on over to beat up the new batch, once they get whittled down, etc. Rinse and repeat.

And if you've got a Scrapper on your team who runs ahead (as in, multiple rooms, spawns, or floors ahead) on their own, that's more than OK; Scrappers these days are ridiculous (see: Imperious Task Force, soloed, no deaths, temp powers, or Inspirations).
  5. Figured I'd start a l'il thread, since I've got a bunch of commissions out right now, and they should be coming in any day now.

This here was a cool surprise from my buddy and Virtue SG (Guardians of the Golden Age) leader.

*can't for the life of me remember how to build a hyperlink directly to his DA page

EDIT: Oh, incidentally, the artist was hoping I could find him an inker with whom he could collaborate. I don't have the contacts of a Bayani, TA, Juggertha, etc., but I figured it couldn't hurt to run his request up the flagpole here.
  6. According to the Ocho8's link to the amd site, the most recent driver available for my card (Radeon 9250) is the 6.2 version; this doesn't seem like it can be right. Any pointers?
  7. Well, dang. Now I have a use for that Freespec.
  8. Oh, yeah, my own WP/SS build is fairly mature now; I honestly mostly use SoW as an Endurance management bridge between instances of Conserve Power. I was just under the impression that the Steadfast only worked when it was in a power that was toggled on; if that's not the case, then I definitely want to move mine (from HPT).
  9. Ridiculously quick turnaround; about an hour from the time I read the OP to the time I had the finished work in my inbox. He even inferred my character's personality based on just a few tidbits of info, and effectively communicated said personality with nothing more than a cocked eyebrow and a semi-smirk. Cool dude.

  10. That seems like a strange place to put the Steadfast Unique.
  11. Why not just:

Keep the End crash (possibly even increase it)
Take out the Defense and Damage crash
Tone down the toHit and Damage buffs
    Disable self-stacking

The End crash still makes using it willy-nilly "dangerous", but taking out the Defense crash doesn't make it suicidal. Lowering the Damage buff by...I think the previously mentioned value was 12%, would bring it in line for Scrappers. Disabling self-stacking is pretty self-explanatory; the other route would be to increase the Recharge time, but I think just flagging it as "does not stack from same caster" is the better option.

The Defense crash going away during stacked Rages was supposedly a "fix", if I'm remembering correctly. But things like Elec/SS, SS/Elec, and SS/SR triple stacked bunches of Rage are kinda silly.

The way I look at the +Def vs. +HP/+Regen "debate" is like this; would you rather have be teamed with an Emp who rocks the Aura and tosses out Heal Other at the expense of Fortitude, or rather the Emp who does their best to keep Fort on as many people as possible, and backs that up with Heals? The latter is my choice, and that's essentially what a "Defense first" WP Tanker looks and plays like.

EDIT: Not an argument against Sailboat's point, more of an affirmation.
  13. Sarrate's prioritization is the same tack I took on my WP (it's SS, but pretty much the same ballgame). The only really expensive items in the build are the things which will "shore up" a few of WP's "weak" points, like using Kinetic Combats to push the S/L Def. Before cracking the 100M Inf mark, you ought to be able to get up to 40% to Exotics and 25% to S/L, which is still enough to handle just about anything. I'm still only at 32% S/L Def, and during the Maria Jenkins arc, really only Battle Maiden took a chunk out of me.

    Thank You.
This is why you get flamed, by the way.

Subjectively, because no rational person would ever consider a build "perfect"; builds are all about tradeoffs. Objectively, because there is no build, for any AT, for any powerset combination, that cannot be improved with IO Set bonuses.

To the OP: Ignore everything Fire_Minded says; until he disabled his rep, he had a really impressive row of red going. Mostly because of posts like the two in this thread. Mids is a fantastic way to build your character(s), especially if you are going to be chasing IO Sets.
  15. ...does that say Sal Velluto? Wow, nice grab. Damn good piece, too; the detailing on the Sky Skiff is superb.

  17. Yep, those were the two that grabbed me, too. Plus, with Hepburn and Lombard in there, I know he's got an appreciation for the period.
  18. Oh, I'd be remiss if I didn't throw a big "thanks!" Comrade Hero's way, specifically for pointing out JOrtega on DA; that looks like it'll cost some decent scratch, but looks like it'd be perfect for a more full-blown piece.

    Благодарит пук, камрада!
  19. It'd probably be easier to show rather than describe the kind of coloring for which I'd be looking; my ability to talk about art is pretty much limited to, "Ooooh, pretty."

EDIT: I totally appreciate the irony of using a WW pic, considering earlier posts in the thread, but it was the best example I could find quickly.
  20. Snagged a spot and dropped Bayani's name as well; not a style I'd usually go for, but it's fun to have different takes on a character, and that price is a steal.

Thanks for the heads up, Bayani!

I'm cool with hitting up two different artists to get a finished piece; it looks like I'd have to go the same route if I commissioned Bindweed/Happy-Dan, as well. After paying up front for the Doc Shaner, I'm pretty much tapped out as far as commission funds go, so it'll be a little bit before I can get anything colored.
  22. Yeah, definitely some power order changes I would make, were it my guy.

    1. Mind Over Body doesn't need to come in that early; at lower levels, you get more mitigation mileage out of defeating mobs rather than surviving them.
    2. No real need for toHit debuff enhancements of any sort in RttC; sure, 2 Dark Watchers does get you 28 extra HPs, but there are other places where you can pick those up.
    3. Taunt: Perfect Zinger vs. Mocking Beratement is a pretty decent debate, but if you're going the Zinger route, why leave that 6th slot on the table, when it gives you 3% Def to S/L?
    4. Again, if it were me, I'd take Quick Recovery the second it's available; CJ and SJ can be pushed back a bit.
    5. I'm assuming 3 slotting Hurdle is for PvP, here. Otherwise, no need for that at all.
    6. Fast Healing at 30 is a travesty, pure and simple. Ought to come way, way earlier, if not ASAP, especially if you're holding off on Health until level 28.
    7. Strength of Will works fine with just the base slot. Again, if it's 3 slotted for the +HP, there are better places to grab those.
    8. A RechRdx in Resurgence kind of makes it sound like whoever designed this build expected to fall down a lot....

    Sweet! Perfect timing.

I've actually been having some luck finding artists by tracking down ones whose styles I like, then poking around their "Favorites."

I actually did come across Doc in my searching; it's a bummer that his commissions are on hold. but looking at the prices he charges on his blog site for black&white headshots...I'm not sure I can justify that.

Matt Wagner was thrown in there primarily for his work on the DC 3 part Trinity, not the Kurt Busiek scripted Trinity series.

Bindweed, I'll definitely poke around your page!

Caemgen; thanks for the info; I've used TA's directory in the past, but for some reason forgot all about it. Thanks!
  25. Hola folks. I've been poking around on DA the last couple of days, but I haven't really found the type of thing for which I've been looking. I'd really like to get some art of one of my characters (and have a few commissions out right now), in a specific style. Anyone familiar with Darwyn Cooke or Matt Wagner would know the sort of thing about which I'm speaking.

If anyone knows of a commissionable artist on DA who fits the bill, or could offer some pointers in the right direction, I'd be very very grateful.

    Thanks!
    SD

EDIT: Oh, I should mention that the character is male; I've been having an incredibly difficult time finding illustrations of male characters in general, let alone in a "retro" style
