  5. Welcome to the game bluemyth... I am one of the vet players on champion and if you ever need help/advice, my global is @stonejaguar

If you decide to stick with champion as your server, i would suggest joining a couple global channels for team invites and other activities. champions united is a public channel you could join. just type: /chanjoin champions united

The players on champion for the most part are really great players. with a few jerks added in for a bit of drama but the core players on champion are really good. If you are going for a pure casual experience, then server population size shouldn't really be an issue. Champion like several of the other servers has a population that fluxes based on the day and time of day.

I am an altoholic and am willing to roll up a newb toon to join in any low lv teaming.

  6. Talking just for myself, I see no reason a "noob" can't come along. And yes, rogues can join this TF. As far as i know, that last spot is free. Unless someone else objects, you can have it. That would make the sunday sara moore tf full

  7. i am unfamiliar with /pain on a mastermind but i have a lv50 ninja/dark. Very fun to play. Pain has healz and buffs but /dark has the debuffage and the aoe stun power that doubles as a team rez. not to mention that dark's heal power is good too. It has to have a target to hit, yes but does good healing. /dark has a hold and aoe fear as well. and you get a fluffy. I am sure that pain domination has it's upside as well but i am unfamiliar with it.

As an alternative, I can bring a shield/Elec tank if we need additional melee(prolly not) or a lv40 archery/mental blaster if we need moar dmg.

  9. No, i am neither ignorant or trolling. I think my advice was sound. Unless you are going for health cap, i see no need for heal IOs in true grit. Also no need for fighting pool. No cocaine either. Like i mentioned, I put together a great build for a shield/Elec without fighting pool. He doesn't get hit very often and I can control any hits he takes with a few inspirations. Take my advice or don't, i don't give a damn but don't discount it because some other player doesn't agree. As far as fighting pool goes, tough gives good S/L resist but unless you have the power slots(at least 2) it is a waste of slots. My shield tank's defense is more than adequate. And weave? again, you need power slots open to get weave. And you add 2 more toggles to your build getting tough and weave. Inherent fitness gives ya those 3 slots, sure but that is then. Do what you want, i am just giving you my take based on my own experiences with shield defense. Not every player plays the same or builds their toons the same. If the idea was to get massive recharge, max hp, then great. My advice was to supplement the defenses that shield has with the sets i mentioned. You can soft cap all 3 types of defense using the invention sets if you tinker with it. So, this means unless you go up against mobs that do massive defense debuff(ie arachnos, DE, malta) you won't take alot of hits. My first post might have sounded lame but i think i acquit myself nicely here.

    SJ
  10. Just a note before i critique your build: i have a lv50 shield/Elec tank that I IO'd out and is around 40-45% defense. So it is possible. Just not how yours is built. You over slotted several powers... nothing a respec cant fix though. I also have experience with super strength. lv50 WP/SS tank. Also IO'd out.

first you need LOTG x4 in deflection and battle agility
for a set that is positional defense, you need to use sets to complement that. Get rid of crushing impact and put touch of death and/or mako's bite in your melee attacks. for scirroco's i only go with 5 of those. the 6th is a wasted slot imo. For true grit, complete your set of steadfast and nothing else in it. perfect zinger is good for taunt but 5 slotted mocking beratement would work too if you needed an extra slot. for health, just 1 slot it. add anohter slot to true grit and put the regen tissue in it instead. maybe if you have the cash, put numina and miracle in health. with inherent fitness in a month or so, i wouldnt waste a slot in health. I do NOT like being forced to use CJ just to add sets to it. but I am fortunate that i am a vet enough to skip it if i want. 6 slot stamina with perf shifter. A shield tank DOES NOT NEED TOUGH OR WEAVE!!! And you overslotted physical perfection. I can post my build if you wanna look at it. yes, it is elec melee but i think you could use it as a guide.

i hope you mean ice/storm combo... for that question, yes it would work well. ice blast has 2 holds and good dmg output along with one of the best tier 9 powers: blizzard. And storm summoning has some really good minor control powers and debuffs. Properly played, storm is really effective and certainly works well with ice blast.

    Ice/Rad Build

I am gonna be upgrading the build on my ice/rad corruptor after I19 and inherent fitness. I put together a build and am not too happy with it and know it can be improved.

Looking for a PvE build ONLY. I have enough loot for just the one purple set. anyone have any advice on how to improve this build?

  14. I would skip it to get rid of a toggle. 8 pts of kb is all that is necessary for pve right? just put 2 steadfasts in there somewhere. or a steadfast and a zephyr
  15. i made an ice armor/energy melee tank for a static team many months ago. I love it. energy absorption is so great when you finally get it. Do you have a cold domination def handy?
That would make it even more insane for ya. I know a player that made an ice/db. was neat watching him play it. and fire or SS would work well too. Even ice melee works well with ice armor. who woulda thunk it?
  16. btw, dechs i checked out your build and will modify it for my dark armor/ broadsword tank when the devs proliferate BS for me.

    SJ
  17. are you high enough vet to get a travel power at 6? if so, get rid of combat jumping.

    SJ
  18. shield armor is awesome. if you were to start tweaking your difficulty, start with mob size. keep them even cons. no bosses. then start putting bosses in. if it is still easy put it to +1. Try and get your defenses to 30% or higher if you haven't already. I soloed my shield/elec tank alot and was super fun. shield charge has lower dmg now but that is no big deal. by the time you get to 40+, you should think about a build that gives ya 40% defense. then you can set it to alot higher difficulty.

    SJ
  19. StoneJaguar

    Fire/SS tank

fire armor has consume. no need to slot stamina. melt armor would be a useful power to help down mobs faster. With it you can slot shield breaker. what i put together was just a general idea what i might have put together before tweaks. I didn't spend alot of time on it. just a matter of how the player with the tank wants his build. If this was my tank, i wouldn't have even taken CJ. I woulda got SJ at 6. puts in perspective what you can do if you are able to skip the 1st or 2nd tier in a travel set as a vet. if you wanted something else in stamina put another +end in it. put a miracle recovery in health. and reactive armor may not be a wanted set either. in the end i might put imp armors in the shields and put other sets in elsewhere to compensate.

    Fire/SS tank

I whipped this up in a few minutes. the defense bonuses need to be tweaked a bit and i think a few sets need to be swapped to even out some of the bonuses but i think you get the idea. 24% melee defense, same for S/L. capped fire resist and 66% S/L resist. with burn and footstomp most of any mobs should be wiped when you encounter em. make sure you have a few greens. That def bonus for melee and S/L should make it really difficult to hit you unless you fight devouring earth, specifically guardians or fight nemesis with all their def debuffs. I didn't add fireball in the build. pointless with burn and footstomp. by the time you burn and footstomp a fire ball is wasted. besides no good set bonuses to add. But of course the build needs tweaking. like i said, i spent 10 minutes or so on it.

    Fire/SS tank

Nah, bring her out of retirement. Fire armor is a much improved set. And super strength is a great attack set for tanks. I don't have a tank with this combo but have a tank with fire armor... actually 2 of those. And i have a wp/ss tank.

First of all, you need to get burn. You need to get rage as soon as it is available. dump weave... I think another toggle uses up too much endurance. You don't need temperature protection that early in your build. your resists for fire are good enough at that low level with fire shield and plasma shield. Get burning aura. yeah another toggle but with end redux in it, it's dmg potential is worth it. No need for fitness pool as it is going inherent in a few months with issue 19. you are a tank, therefore you need taunt as soon as it is available. Fiery embrace is now a good power to get even if you aren't a fire/fire tank.

One of the things i have learned since making alot of builds for different ATs and power sets is that the most popular sets aren't the ones that will benefit you the most. Of course, the numina's and miracles are useful but I don't think they are beneficial enough on a fire tank to make the cost of em worth it. You won't be depending on your regen anyhow. defense bonuses from sets along with your resists should do the job to keep ya upright.

    X-Men Fans...

If the star trek franchise can be reborn in fantastic fashion, I see no reason to jump to the conclusions with X-Men. The way i see it is the first 3 x-men movies had 3 A-LIST actors in it. They drove those movies. And those movies allowed some lesser known actors spark careers. When I watched Star Trek in the theater last year, I recognized a few actors but I didn't know who chris pine was. And the only reason I knew who Spock was played by is I watched Heroes.

I will reserve judgment until I watch it in theaters. But not every superhero movie needs a big actor lead part. Spiderman proved that.

    Help a noob out

Your debuff toggles will always be 'killed' when you are on large teams. Debuff the boss of a mob and then save your debuffs for next mob. Don't try and debuff the last minion because your debuffs recharged. I have a rad/rad def, earth/rad troller and an ice/rad corrupter. I learned to not worry about the debuffs dieing. There are other subtle ways other power sets debuff the mobs though. Without using toggles. Dark Miasma has it's heal. That heal debuffs targeted mob's regen rate along with it's healing ability. Same for kinetics's heal. I would say that after playing a few weeks on a static team with a traps defender, I think traps is a great teammate. Also, trick arrow is a great teammate. debuffs in area of affect and minor control. I have a 50 ta/a defender. Really fun on teams. Alot of players like robots/force field masterminds. /dark master mind is a good one as well. necromancy/dark mastermind is really powerful. Plant control and earth control are really good control sets. Mind is also good but it has it's issue in comparison to the other control sets. I don't care for fire control that much. Alot of players are getting into a mind/fire dominator. I have a mind/psi dom that i like alot. has a few powers i consider worthless in a team environment though. And don't get stuck on fire blast and a primary for corruptors and blasters. It is great with AoE, but there are other good sets. Ice blast is a good set. It has 2 holds and good damage and what in my opinion is the best tier 9 power:Blizzard.

My best advice is to tinker with some other sets through the lower levels on both sides. If you go melee, all 4 melee ATs are good. Depends on what your play style is. Tank is aggro management via taunt and gauntlet. Scrapper is dps. stalker is stalk your prey and attack from stealth. A brute's strength is his fury bar. Longer fights make your damage increase. Welcome to the game.
