    Biographies!

Pretty well sums up my mindset when writing bios for my characters as well. I also find that unless I have at least the framework of a bio in the back of my mind (even if I don't get round to putting into words) I can't really get "in" to the character I'm playing. Two of my favourite toons (Fire / axe tank, and Stone / Fire Brute) I rolled and deleted half a dozen times, but kept coming back to because their back stories were so strong in my mind.

    Biographies!

Personally, I enjoy well written and believable bios (or at least believable in a Superhero comic style context). Imaginative without being overly "fantastic". There have been the odd really hilarious ones I've seen too!

My characters tend to be brief origin stories, without getting the full "Big Red Book" treatment. I write them to flesh out the character and give them a little more "substance".

Because of this I don't think this game is really set up to provide a moral message on the rehabilitation/judicial consequences of a vigilanty.

And imo it never should, because it is just that. A game.
  5. Heh brilliant. Best comic strip since the superb EED (Eat Electric Death. Whatever happened to him?)
  6. Shayde that suggestion is pure genius. Pure Creative Genius, no less. Have the nominations for September been made yet ?

Another thing that makes me love the CoX community over the WoW one is CoX's complete lack of know-alls who do an Inspect on you and then proceed to ever-so-'helpfully' /tell you: " Ur spec is [censored]* 4 a <insert class here>, u shud go 4 <insert favoured spec of the month here.>

    [/ QUOTE ]

You've been lucky; these kinds of people are certainly about in CoX.

    Memorable examples include:

"You <insert AT>. Why you no have <insert power>. *You have been kicked from the team*"

Level 12 group standing out side a door in the Hollows. "Sorry, I'm not teaming with a tank that doesn't have Taunt".

"All 'trollers and defenders put their aura heal on auto" Any retort to the contrary? Insta kick.

And of course the classic, "I have <unlikely number picked from the air> level 50s, so when I give information, I'm right, and you're wrong".

Times like that I'm glad I largely team with my SG, and that soloing in CoX is perfectly viable.
  8. No, no.. William Shatner doesn't use one word sentances, his are two word sentances.

This time. You've gone. Too far.

William Shatner would have said, "Star Date. Three Five. Two Six. Nine Four. And just. So much. Your suggestion. For Rifles. Is Not. Good for. This Game."

If you're going to use an example of someone to take the Michael out of someone else, at least get it RIGHT.

    No. More. Gun. Sets.

    /unsigned

    [/ QUOTE ]

The reason I put this in is because there isnt enough gun sets...Theres 1, and 3 minor gun sets only available with masterminds (at the moment)

But I see your point, weapons are taking over the game, that is because the devs have practically used up most super powers that can fit in.

    Sorry. I. Cant. please. Everybody

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are more than enough gun sets. One is more than enough.

Don't have a problem with weapons, per se.. it's just guns. In a super hero MMO, they're naff, and imo at least, rather unoriginal given the number of other games out there that are centred around gun combat.

This is a "Suggestions" forum, not a popularity one, so don't expect to "please everyone".

Oh, and to you and Gilmore. Immitation is the highest form of flattery. So thank you, I'm touched.

It will encourage spam on forums and we have enough of that

    [/ QUOTE ]
    How?
I can't see how your title "Trainee" or any other can be considered spam.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No dots, so no sarcasm...

He means if there are levels of titles, then it'll encourage people to spam, to increase their post count to get the title they want.

Personally, I can't see that being any different from the situation now.
  12. Maybe true vets aren't bothered about labels which attempt to put them in a different or "better" class than other players.

They love CoX, and they love playing it. That is all.

Well, that wasn't quite as bad a reaction as I expected!

I'm not sure why, and would find it impossible to explain or rationalise, but there are a couple of "powers" that don't sit right with me.

Swords / Shields (ironically, not Katana though for some bizarre reason), for me smack too much of fantasy MMO than comic hero MMO. I like CoX largely because it's different as well as the comic hero aspect.

Anything that involves a weapon that requires a superhuman level of skill to use, I can also relate to. Axes, Electric Hammers, Archery. Also heroes that have other super powers that are required in order to wield said weapon, are also OK. (Yes, yes I know Cap. has had the super soldier serum and is super strong etc.. but I've never really been able to "get" him. If I'm honest that could be part of my aversion to a shields set in CoX)

Anything with guns.. naff. The one scenario I keep coming back to is the classic, "I am Fantastico Man!! I'm a SUPER HERO!!! I LAUGH at your puny guns!!!!"

What would a dual pistol or similar hero say in the same situation? "I am Texan Boy! I'm a SUPER HERO. I LAUGH at your puny... er.... guns. Bugger"

Reading back, I think what it is that doesn't really excite me about guns, swords and shields is that they're too "generic". For me, there's nothing different or imaginative about them, and so don't really excite my imagination.

I know what I'm going to get for saying this, but I'm going to say it anyway.

Roman zones, shields, dual pistols... this is a super hero MMO isn't it? Yanno.. people with SUPER POWERS?

GR saying earlier in the thread something along the lines of, ".... MUCH more " is part of what makes me think the best is still yet to come.

I'm also wondering if some aren't jumping the gun with disappointments. After all not all facts are known about Issue 13, don't forget the "more" part in the announcement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    This.

I think what we've been given is just the taster for the main event. With all of the pre announcement jitters on what's coming, I can't believe there has been that much dev excitement (notably quotes from War Witch and our own GR) over what we've been told so far.

There is something else on the way. I believe there will not be a foot in the house left with a sock on it.

I think you've missed my point entirely and by majority rule i wasn't clear enough about what my point was but hey, you lot have made it pretty clear i'd be wasting my time anyway

It has confirmed my speculations however, about the game itself having nothing to do with why PvP is so unpopular, at least among the forum population.

Don't throw your toys out just because people don't like your idea

    Lol, my toys never moved

    You sure about that?

    [ QUOTE ]
What I don't agree with are the cries of 'Every one would leave the game!' when I know for a fact that's not true, although alot or even (though i doubt it) the majority may consider leaving the game (or actually leave it, which ever makes you happier), which is why i don't think something like this will be considered for a very long time, if ever

    [/ QUOTE ]

Make up your mind. Will people leave the game because of this, or not? Additionally, how do you "know for a fact" people wouldn't leave. Have you conducted a survey to find out? There are a large number of people who play CoX simply because it is PVE focused and not PVP. Introduce an open PVP flag system (like the one I believe is in WoW) and people will leave, as for them it's the reason they're not playing other games with the same system.

    [ QUOTE ]
From what I understand (and has been forcefully thrown at me) the majority of those 'carebear' players don't want anything to do with PvP, the flag system allows them to carry on and ignore any enamy players safe in the knowlage that those enamy players can't attack them, the ability to 'do their bit' isn't an issue when the player doesn't want to and those that were interested would have a more PvP viable toon available to swap to if they so desired, most players seem to have numerous 50's, respecing one for PvP (or leveling a fresh one up) wouldn't be much of an issue if they wanted it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Understood all that from your original idea, but I come back to my original point. If our current PVP zones were a hive of activity, with not a lot going on in the PVE zones, it would suggest that a large proportion of the gaming population likes PVP, and wants to take part in it. The fact that for the most part, PVP zones are nothing but ghost towns, tends to suggest it's something only a committed minority enjoy, so why not just leave it as it is? PVPers get to PVP, PVEers can PVE; everyones happy.

have some way a rage bar for tanks and a defend mode when the bar is filled, equal to the brute and dominator.

I agree it is a great game, you can be as casual as you like or go hardcore and grind it out to 50 in no time.

Unfortunately due to lack of finances, cost of household bills getting a bit high. So something had to go and I'm having to cancel my subs

Now if only the character creation wasn't so involved my hubby would have played...but like he said he doesn't want to spend hours on creating a character. So it would be nice if at some time you could choose between a quick creation mode and the normal complex one most of us love.

You can Top of the menu are the costume "sets". Drop down the box, pick a costume set (fighter, hero, viking, etc, etc) choose colours and away you go.
  20. Which AT most closely matches your personality? Nothing to do with which you prefer to actually play (necessarily), nor is it a "if you had super powers what would they be", but are you the kind of person that can withstand all sorts of trauma but never let it get to you (tank), are you someone that listens to and helps out their friends (defender) or perhaps your someone with anger issues that just likes to break things (brute).

    Which are you, and why?
  21. When in a team and going to shop / trainer, it'd be REALLY nice if the game didn't reset the destination to the next mission (even if it's selected before you click the shop / trainer as your destination)
  22. [ QUOTE ]
So far i've built for AoE damage and enough survivability to keep me alive. My Elec/Fire was in a duo so had taunt to keep my corr alive too, which helped me too but generally I dont think of tanking most of the time with brutes. On a big team I will try and tank AVs for them but its not really my role, if it was I would have tank values not scrapper ones. I play to brute, which is build fury and kill stuff.

    That's about my opinion

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much sums up my feelings too. Was on a team today and a player commented that he got all the agro when there were 3 brutes on the team, I've also been in teams where other players have expected me to tank and keep agro, (and got the right proverbial when I haven't!) but I've never really seen that as my primary role.

Interested in the opinions of other players
  23. Just a quick question really.

When building your brute, what is your prime goal? Damage, or damage mitigation? Do you see yourself as a high damage melee toon, or the closest thing CoV has to a team tank?
  24. SteelRat

    SMASH!

Stone / Fire brute, Volkanik on a LGTF. Last room, 8 man spawn. Sheer carnage - maxed out Fury (at 750%) so one shotting red lts. I always grin like a pillock when I play Volk, but that was probably one of the most memorable times.
  25. Personally, I just see the vet rewards as a means to "complete" your toons; things that aren't really necessary but quite nice to have. Some are more useful to me than others, but I wouldn't see any of them as "good" or "bad" quite frankly.
