    QR..

You know while this thread as been going I hadn't really noticed:

    [ QUOTE ]
Why do you want to waste my time and spoil my fun, making me stop playing and spend all my time sending stupid messages?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    until it was quoted above.

Frankly, if that is the attitude of the kind of person sending blind invites, is it any wonder people don't like them?
  3. [ QUOTE ]
And wouldn't Frostfire be a real letdown, if he where only a boss?

    [/ QUOTE ]

^^ This. How many times have I been on a safeguard or mayhem gone to the bank only to hear cries of "awww only a Boss "
  4. SteelRat

    Ghosting.

    [ QUOTE ]
so it can't be really compared to farming or PLing, it's their opposite if anything

    [/ QUOTE ]

It can. I did. "Why play if you're going to do all you can not to".

I'm very much someone who enjoys the journey more than the destination, because I see that as the whole point really. Remove that, and you remove the point (for me at least).

Saying that, I do tend to prefer playing tanks, scrappers and brutes and have the mind set "why go around when you can go THROUGH", so perhaps my perception of what's a fun way to complete a mission is different from the ghost advocates.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Personally I would like a more Victorian style better though. Because in there you can introduce steampunk which seems to fit the CoX universe more

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Now this I like.
  6. Superb.. look forward to the finished article!
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Besides, things like scabbards and w/e used as costume details could coincide with more costume details that would work in similar ways, like backpacks, back details, amongst others. Maybe even, heaven forbid, CoT style robes

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whilst I understand where you're coming from, that'd be a step too close to mages, fighters and generic overdone carp for my taste. More options = good. More unique, original options = better imo.

    Ghosting.

Ghosting, like PL and to a degree but less so, farming (but lets not go there, cos farming discussions have been done to death ) for me comes under the "Why play the game if all you're going to do is find ways of not playing it" category.

One additional point too is that:

    [ QUOTE ]
Ghosting saves a lot of pain around the mentally challenged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

.. is the direct opposite of my experience. The mentally challenged who think they can ghost, and can't actually cause more pain, and make things take longer than if the mission was completed "normally".
  9. Darth, I don't spose you'd consider turning your pencil to one of mine would you ?

Agreed with Calam. I suppose the OP is new to the game, but if he wants to be PLed, well, that's his choice. At the end of the day, we don't have to PL him, but we need to give him the right to ask if he can be PLed instead of saying "hey, I don't think you should do this".

It all comes down to the way he wants to play.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course it is, that's why I made a point of saying "I would advise against it if as a new player he wants to get the most fun out of the game".

Emphasis mine. Advising against something is not the same as saying you're an idiot if you do it.

Additionally, I've never had much truck with "player rights" when this kind of thing is mentioned. Sure he has the right to ask to be PL'd and other people have the right to PL him if that's what they want to do. Remember too, I have the right to disagree with the reasons behind it, I have the right to decline his request and suggest other ways of playing that have been fun for me that he also might enjoy. Rights don't only work one way, and as such should really be considered irrelevant.
  11. Yeah, and that's my point: I don't think I've ever seen an advert for any MMO outside WoW, at least no more than the bits and pieces I've seen for CoH here and there. When I first started playing MMOs a few years back, I didn't really know of any that existed outside WoW, and I only got into them (namely this and EvE) through a mate at work.
  12. Excellent stuff!

@SS: True, but do we see similar efforts from other developers for other games? Don't think we're that alone in that respect really.
  13. Perhaps don't make merits tradeable, just make them transferable? Doesn't that solve both problems then? Keeps them away from the AH and the economy, but still allows people to consolidate earned merits across their different alts.

    farming

I was talking about PL rather than farming, and as the OP is a new player it's something I would advise against if he wants to get the most fun out of the game.

Farming is a different kettle of fish, and whilst I've never exactly been backward about coming forward over my personal opinion of it, from my own point of view, I think there's a stronger case to justify it than there is PL (not strong enough to persuade me that it's something I'd want to do very often, I might add )

By the first 5 minutes I think you'll understand...

    [/ QUOTE ]

... how incredibly mind numbingly boring it is and how quickly it sucks out the soul of playing and your character.

PL is "cheat mode" imo. I'd advise against it. Otherwise, what's the point of playing?

    Crash and Burn

DirectX is probably used for sound, hence the requirement, but the graphics engine is OpenGL.

    Crash and Burn

np .. of course it's really only good advice if it works
  18. But the fact remains that some bosses are bigger and badder than just bosses are, and that's why they have EB status. RP wise it'd make no sense for Infernal to be the same level of nastiness as an ordinary CoT Death Mage either.

DriverCleanerPro is a good little app for cleaning out ATi driver mess, and it's surprising just how much mess it leaves. I'd also uninstall any NVidia gfx card drivers amd run DCPro again so that you're starting from a clean slate.

Then download the latest drivers from NVidias site and install them, rather than install the ones on the disk, and then update.

    So:

    1. Download and install DCpro (a bit of googlage should find it fairly easily for you)
    2. Uninstall any and all gfx card driver software you can find in Add / Remove programs
    3. Download latest NVidia drivers
    4. Run DCPro, select "Remove Multi", and select all NVidia and ATi gfx components
    5. Reboot PC
    6. Install NVidia drivers downloaded in "3" above.

(and for whomever suggested that CoH uses DX9, it doesn't, it uses OpenGL)

Cimemora works, but only just, and in fact the only time I ever go there is for the ITF

I think perhaps that a fantasy world is generally seen as existing within a medieval one. In other words, you could take a medieval setting, and would only need to add wizards, orcs and goblins for it to be seen as a fantasy setting.

Perhaps the former is close enough to the latter to make people feel nauseous when it is suggested?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fantasy; Magic very common, things like orcs, goblins, elementals, magic items by the bucket load, stupid looking and impractical yet +1squillion armours, done to death.

ACTUAL Medieval; peasants, lack of technology, realistic castles, realistic and practical armour, non-magical but very sharp swords, knights, the occasional wizard/witch, plenty of scope for Heroic activities and Villain exploitation.

People have WoW phobia, with some very valid reasons.
Medieval does NOT equal WoW/AoC, however, unless whoever implemented such a system was as unimaginative as a brick wall with the foresigh of a duck...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tech, I think you missed my point. In a fantasy world, people think of setting, or time where people are generally farmers, trade in copper, silver and gold "pieces" rather than an actual denominated currency, travel around on foot or horse and cart live in hovels, castles or the like.

In otherwords, medival setting + magic beasts and abilities = fantasy. Is that not fair to say?

Therefore you could make the medieval setting as gritty and "real" as you like, but as soon as you put heroic and for want of a better term "magic-like" abilities into the mix, I think you're walking very close to a fantasy style game. Certainly too close for my comfort.

Cimemora works, but only just, and in fact the only time I ever go there is for the ITF, and that's it (oh and to have a perve at the old stylee version of GW. Hawtness tbh)

In respect of Kheldian Nova forms, I'd imagine it'd work as -fly powers currently do on them; in other words, bring them to the ground and disallow any vertical movement, without disabling the form itself

I think SS caps at around 92. I can't remember, as I replaced the runspeed IO in my Super Speed with the Winter's Gift slow resistance IO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"About 100" covers my brute that caps at 96*, and an SG /SR scrapper who's max speed is 110* (or so he claims - I'm not entirely sure I believe him tho - but equally I did wonder if Quickness isn't included in the calculation of speed buffs in the way that other buffs are and somehow pushes the cap limit higher? )
