Quote:I'm not sure it's that simple. Take Energy Blast: at Level 50 Power Blast does 102.6 S/E damage unenhanced. With 3 Damage SOs it's 201. Assault only adds 10.8 points, so it's effectively a ~5% increase overall. If it is off 20% of the time due to status effects, it's only about 8 points. And most Blasters are not near the melee players, so it may not boost their damage at all. Is adding a few damage points to some of your teammates worth the End cost?Even at only +10.5% damage ... on a team of 8 players, that's like adding the damage of +1 Player to the entire team (or if you want to be pedantic, +84% of a player). That's not exactly trivial.
If every player on a team is running all three Leadership Toggles, Vengeance is almost a wasted power ... almost ... -
Traps is definitely superior to Devices as a Secondary, there really is no contest. But the Blaster will out-damage the Corruptor in the Primary department. If you go Blaster, pick something other than Devices, something with Build Up.
-
Assault is almost useless for a Blaster. The bonus is a puny 10.5% to your BASE (non-enhanced) damage, and it is suppressed when you are mezzed. The small bonus (just a little better than a Training enhancement) can pretty easily be replicated with IO bonuses later on, and those don't suppress with status changes.

Quote:Well, for a Blaster, you really don't contribute much debuffing to the team, so the Slow or -Dam effects, while useful solo, are usually done better by Defs, Corrs, or Controllers. But what you can add to the team is damage, and so maximizing that with the Fire ammo and Defiance maximizes your main contribution. Especially since DP is not the highest-damage blast set. Thanks, but I'm on fire for more info.
Is Fire ammo +20% damage? Really no other tricks to the set?
That's not to say that, for instance, Snow Storm and your Cold ammo won't significantly slow a mob, but many would argue that increased damage would eliminate them entirely in the about same amount of time and End usage. -
That's a good assessment of /Devices. The one combo that might benefit from Smoke Grenade is Ice/Dev/Dark. SG + Bitter Ice Blast + Night Fall is about 15% ToHit Debuff unenhanced.
I'd argue that a lot of the Blaster Secondaries that are now over 7 years old need a pass by the Devs to modernize them. -
Anyone seen it yet? I had not really been interested until I saw the previews, and I picked up one of the prequel graphic novels. Now I think I want to see it.

1. Another vote for Power Pool customization
2. Dark Blast/Dark Mastery proliferation to Blasters and Doms
3. Peacebringers get a look see from the Devs, maybe increase their damage solo or something to make them on par with Warshades and VEATs
4. Boomtown gets a makeover like Faultline, maybe for the 12-20 levels
5. Grandville gets some infrastructure that makes the ability to Fly less necessary
6. Moon base?
7. Underwater area?
8. New alternate animations
9. Devs finally read Deadpool, add Katana Or Dual Blades as a Blaster secondary
10. Fire Blast for Defenders
11. All self Rez powers, Conserve Energy-type powers, and teammate Rez powers get a reduction in their ridiculously long recharge times
12. Blaster PBAoE nukes get an optional form that does less damage but is ranged and doesn't drain all your End (no more suicide powers)
13. Medicine pool no longer interruptible (might have been "fun" seven years ago, not so much now). Also gets alternate animations that mesh better with different Origins
13. Smoke Grenade accepts Range enhancements
14. Devs read Iron Man comics and finally ask why it's "fun" that ranged characters get little/no status protection, while melee gets it often with one power pick.
15. Power Pools have the "you must pick this power before you can have that one" requirement removed: No More Useless Powers policy begins
16. Intangibility powers (i.e. Black Hole) get a revision, so that they can have a -Regen effect instead of Intangibility if slotted with Heal enhancements
17. Super Speed gets an alternate animation: Motorcycle
18. Gravity Control gets an upgrade.
19. Animation times longer than 2 seconds are reviewed, Devs announce they can't believe Propel takes so long and should have had that bug fixed in Issue 2.
20. SG base construction gets a revamp, all items are visible on Macs, and editing no longer crashes your computer.
21. Time Bomb converted to useful ranged power, renamed Hand Grenade
And we finally get a freaking Mac-native client!!!!! -
AR just got a big boost, namely you can pick that gigantic Vanguard rifle in the Character Creation screen now. Giant rifles FTW.

If you do the Penelope Yin arc in Faultline, after you rescue her dad you open his store and can get SOs for your specific Origin, i.e. Magic gets access to Acc SOs, Science gets Recharge SOs. These are available well before 25 and can help. Also you can sometimes pick up lower level SOs at Wentworth's, but of course that is hit-or-miss.

I'm enjoying playing a DM/FA Brute right now. I have a couple of questions for the higher levels:
1. I know the Psi damage is going to ramp up in a few levels. What is the best way to deal with that? Is it best to try to get Resistance from IOs, or focus on Healing for mitigation?
2. I'm looking at Soul Mastery for Gloom, DN's ToHit debuff, and the tentacles. But I'm wondering if Pyre Mastery with Fire Blast and Fireball is a better choice. -
So I saw that there was a swords-and-sorcery style MMORPG released for the iPad, meant to compete with or mimic the largest MMO currently out. I don't know what it would be like to play CoH on an iPad (I'm guessing tough) but it raises an interesting idea: are there iPhone or iPad apps that could interface with CoH?
A Mids-compatible app (maybe sync with Dropbox or MobileMe?) comes to mind; an offline costume designer with desktop file compatibility would also be pretty cool. -
I think I've read a story where Batman comments that he is glad Superman grew up around the Kents. Same idea, Clark learned humility and the value of other people at an early age.
-
Take the CoH game engine and make a Wild West MMO. There are almost none on the market and I would argue no really good ones at all. Cowboys, outlaws, soiled doves, miners, con men, the list of possible ATs goes on.
Add a bunch of six-guns, shotguns, rifles, arrows, and healing based on 19th century medicine and/or Native American knowledge, and I think it could be popular.
Rescue the miners from the cave in. Find the rustlers and stop their boss. Search the forest for lost stagecoach treasure. Fight wildfires. Many possible missions could be written. -
I'd like some way (other than writing it on a piece of paper) to know what my character has in the Salvage Vault while I am standing in WWs. Its time for heroes to upgrade from just a cell phone to call their contacts to a smartphone.
Other smartphone functions that might be useful:
- Show me a list of the recipes and salvage I have stored in WWs
- Help me find the people who start TFs in a zone
I'm not asking to manipulate what I have, that is to say I don't expect to be able to move the salvage or recipes, I just want to know what I have so I don't buy something I already have stored, or I can discard/sell stuff I don't need without running around so much. -
Quote:This. While I do hope he's wrong, no plans for upgrading the Cider wrapper means no chance of getting these problems fixed. The cider wrapper is the problem; it's the source of the memory leaks, the assertion failures, the improper caching to RAM, and the reason that my machine can run CoX 10 times better in Windows, a much more inefficient OS, than it can on it's native OS.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: this game needs a Mac OS native client. Wrappers are a kluge at best, Cider should have been a "we'll give you this until our Mac OS native client is ready" thing. -
I crashed 3 times last night over a 2 hour session, while with I19 I don't remember a single crash. I remember thinking last night "the crashes are back". I have a macro button on all my characters to /reloadgfx. I even tried /sync and /neterrorcorrection 2, which have helped in the past, but no dice now.

We were warned that putting Hami-Os in slots where they don't belong could lead to repercussions...
-
Looks terrible. Neither the costume nor the actress make you think "Oh cool, that looks like Wonder Woman!" Everyone has their favorite, but now that she's not on Criminal Minds any more, Paget Brewster would be a better choice, IMHO.

1. Go buy the code from that Richard Garriott's sci fi game, the one with the initials TR. Nobody's using it anymore; it should be cheap. Strip out the code that let you move and shoot at the same time. Insert it into CoX.
2. Come up with a powerset mix that lets you use guns and blades. Give pistols to Scrappers, or blades to Blasters, or make a new AT, it doesn't matter.
3. Dump the idea that only melee ATs get status resistance.
4. Make Peacebringers worth playing. Personally, I would do this by making the toggles they have into Defense instead of resistance, and adding status resistance of various types to each one. And I would make the forms appearance an option, i.e. you can stay in your human costume that you spent a long time making, while getting the powers of the squid or lobster if you want to. But I'd be open to better ideas.
5. If I did a costume creator revamp, the first thing I would do is alphabetize everything in the lists. But I'd probably spend time finding a way to reduce the use and need for stealth powers. You spend a lot of time making a costume, then spend the whole game invisible?? In a game that has won awards for costume creation, why is half your team see-through? -
That's pretty sad. I love Macs, but sometimes I think Apple paints itself into a corner with strange rules.
-
So Apple has an App Store for Macs now. Lots of mainstream games from major companies are listed there. I just want to encourage NCSoft and their marketing department to post CoH there. I don't know what the business implications are, but having your game in front of many Mac users would have to be good for subscriptions.

I have a couple of styli for my iPad 1, I even made one from a drafting pencil and some IC packaging foam. They are conductive, that is they must conduct a small amount of electricity to work. I'm sure you already know that's why you can't wear gloves with an iPhone or iPad, unless they are made specifically for the device.
The other thing about the styli is that their tips are about the size of your finger. I think the iPad has detection logic in it to reject taps that do not cover a certain amount of surface area. Fine tipped styli don't work, unfortunately. -
I have a 3G iPad. If this one is significantly lighter (I carry it around at the hospital to make rounds), I might have to pick it up. 1.3lbs vs 1.5lbs might not be a big difference on paper, but it might be enough when you hold it in your hand. Will have to see when it is available in a store.
And yes, it would be great to play CoH on this platform with a BT keyboard. -
