  1. If you're assuming those are the only two types of players, then yes you have the wrong end of the stick. In fact, that's not a stick, that's an iron bar.

"Normal players" can get immersed in the game as well as, sometimes more than, any roleplayer. The story arcs are like reading books, and you don't need to be a roleplayer to read a book; not to mention, not having a set timeline of events for your character (i.e. allowing a greater deal of sway), can mean it's easier to become immersed in a storyline than if your character wouldn't be doing the tasks given to you, say.
  2. I think you missed the "some people".

o and yes, there is absolutely no argument if not doing it.

Amount of coding involved, and the small number of people it would benefit.

See, you're talking of shapeshifting as a power - which we already have in the form of Peacebringers and Warshades. This type of "shapeshifting" though, would not be a power, but a cosmetic change; and one that may not make sense.
  4. And shields are useful.

I say again. This would be a QoL change. It would benefit a tiiiiiiny amount of people, and be a "[censored]? why?" change for everyone else. Nobody has to give a reason why they're against it, but "it doesn't make sense" is perfectly valid.

"It doesn't make sense" is often trotted out as a reason against something.
  5. See, this is just getting ridiculous.

No one has to explain why they don't like the idea, and "it's not normal (for the superhero genre)" is a perfectly valid no matter how flawed argument. Mystique is a shapeshifter in the sense she can adopt the look of anyone else - this is useful. If she just changed sex it would be arguably less useful (unless she wanted a double life).

Nothing QoL serves any great purpose, which is why people are more likely to be against them.
  6. Shape changing =/= gender swapping.

Kheldians can shift between forms, but the forms are useful and serve a purpose. They're also limited to the epic Hero Archetypes. Changing a character's gender as a costume option would be AT wide, villains and heroes and really not serve any real gameplay purpose.

It's QoL, and some don't want it.
  7. Apart from the fact throwing cars and wall crawling are normal for superheroes.
  8. This is a QoL suggestion that would most likely involve a lot more coding than anyone seems to think. People have every right to be against it - for any reason.

    Need a new PC?

The questions on David Dickinson's new show are just silly. The fact you win the amount of money a randomly chosen item sells for makes me feel you should have to guess the amount before it sells, rather than answer a usually barely related question.

    Need a new PC?

Entered. I don't need it, and I have Wildman art anyway... but I am very greedy.
  11. Female to Huge and Male to Huge I like the idea of, but I'd take female costume sets for males and vice versa over female to male gender swap. So, to stem confusion I am in favour, I just don't think it likely.

Edit: And not, as people may think because of the "link" to transgenderism. I was simply trying to explain Harbi's point there.

I think it unlikely because there's obviously a lot of code involved. Contacts know if you're male or female, there are male and female badge differences - that's going to be a lot trickier than simply body shape.

Was CoH an age 12 rated game? Or soemthing... anyway, i think because there could be players of a young age playing, the idea of trans-gender characters is a bit... well let's say it's more mature content. Does that sound reasonable to people?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Many many many many (many xalot) Young people realise feelings of transgenderism at an extremely young age, true enough modern society does its best to supress these concepts in them, for the most part, but still, chances are by the age of 12 a young person in todays modern world will be loosely aware of the concept, and somebody who genderidentifies as the other gender to their unassigned one will be desperate for an outlet where their feelings and desires are expressed in a socially acceptable manner.

No offence, but closed midned views like "transgenderism" should be kept as an adult topic causes more and more kids harm than it will ever do good for

    [/ QUOTE ]

He didn't say it was an adult topic, he said it was a mature one. A great deal of young teenagers are far more mature than some adults. However, adults are more likely to be mature, to understand controversial topics, to know to let others' have their opinions and live as they choose - which is what age ratings are all about.

You can't have everyone sit a test before watching an 18 rated film, say, to judge their maturity and whether or not they can handle the topics covered - so they guess, they pick an age which they believe will be suitable - that the vast majority of people of that age will be able to handle the subject, or will at least have a greater understanding; enough to know to avoid it, say.

People of any age can suffer with gender issues, true. But, like homosexuality and rebellion - it can also be a phase. Temporary, they'll "grow out of it". This, I would argue, is why in the real world, it tends to be skirted around when a person is in their childhood or teenage years. Peer pressure is a powerful thing - if someone's going through a phase in their life, and is encouraged in it, it may become permenant or a case of, "Well, everyone thinks this is right... I'll do it", rather than letting the individual make up their own mind.

Support, yes. Support is always good, acceptance and understanding I'm all for it. But the individual should choose/realise for themselves - and maturity is likely to be the time this happens. Unfortunately, as mentioned, people mature at different ages - so we stamp that number on there as a gateway and an alarm for everyone else. They're eighteen or so now, they're mature.

This, I believe, is why it would be unlikely that controversial subjects like transgenderism, homosexuality etc. etc. are going to be covered to any great degree in a game rated suitable for younger people. Books and films, maybe - likely, in fact - but books and films are more likely to be educational than computer games; they have that loophole.

As for the suggestion itself: I really can't think of many concepts where male-to-female body type changes would be needed. Male-to-Huge, or to a lesser extent, Female-to-Huge yes... but not so much swapping between the sexes. Perhaps just port some costume items over for males and vice versa - it wouldn't, I wouldn't think, require so much coding. (Bearing in mind, contacts will refer to you as male or female - if your character is both... I'm not sure, I'm not a dev).

  20. So, you never experienced the adrenaline rush of making it across The Gulch in one piece? Or the shock of rounding a corner and coming face-to-face with a group of purples? Or pride at being able to run a course around the various mobs waiting to kill you? The teamwork of getting your mates across?

Reward doesn't always have to be material. People used to do Gulch runs for fun, back in the day of debt before level 10. I spent many hours way back when listening to people chant, "I'm gonna make it, I'mgonnamakeit," only to fall about laughing when they were one-shot (something else we've scrapped) just as they were nearing safety.

Yes, it's all risk if you expect some sort of prize for getting from point A to point B safely - but then getting to any mission ever would be "all risk". You could be ambushed, you could be dumb enough to mistake a group of reds for a group of greys (don't say "colour blind", there are workarounds).

Risk is fun. Reward is bonus.
