Dear COH,

Please remove or severely limit XP and drops from the AE missions. It is fun to play content created by other players. It is not fun to be stuck in PL perma-farmland. (Ask anyone from Kansas.)

I don't mind bing Old School.

To me, Old School means I play new toons through sewers and missions instead of haunting the lobby of the AE building. Old School means that I build my toons for my own fun, and don't really care about the "optimal" IO min/max or FOTM. Old School means that regardless of whether we "need" tanks, they're still darn fun to play and nice to have on a team.

And I apparently never make it on those lists either.

I wasn't able to listen to the whole show, but I caught the Live version of Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast" and a couple other songs. It was indeed a random mix, but fun.

Running AE missions is one thing. If you are actively playing your toon, using your powers as you level, and getting a feel for your powersets, then AE does no harm.

AE farm missions, where the new players sit by the door and collect levels as fillers for some PL farm, are something quite different, and are the source of many people's frustrations.

I generally don't berate those looking/spamming for AE teams. The nearest I came was when a level 41 asked in Atlas broadcast how to get a cape, I advised him to go to the City Representative in city hall, but warned that he would have to leave the AE building to do it.

However, I don't support AE levellers and don't join those teams. I've started two new toons recently, and have leveled up both the "old fashioned" way (albeit with a slight boost during 2 XP weekend when i could avoid the mapserver disconnects). Yes it would be faster to AE until "my attack chain was filled out," but that isn't really the point; at least not for me and my $15/month. Yes, the attack chain is underpowered, but it is also a good time to teach yourself the basic tactics of a new set.

Open the SG window by clicking "Super" above your chat box. Click the button to leave/quit SG. It's just that easy.

And yes, there are lots of large and active SGs, if you're looking for that sort of thing.

Atlas Park AE Broadcasting

I don't know of any specific guides offhand, but here's the best newb tips i can give you:
1) Avoid the AE building in Atlas.
2) Don't be in a rush to get to 50. CoH is much more about the journey than the destination.
3) Play a character that you enjoy conceptually and functionally.
4) Join the "BMT of Champion" global channel.
5) Avoid joining a SG that spams blind invites to every new toon in Atlas. Instead, seek out players you like to play with and ask if you can join their SG. Most will be happy to have you.
6) Beware the penguins.
