Quote:Without Remorse is far and away my favourite Tom Clancy book. Some people like the technical stuff, some like the political intrigue. I just like to read/watch Mr. Clark taking care of business. Rainbow Six was alright, though it's more of him running the unit and not so much with the field work.I cheated on this book, I got so into the WWII story I would skip the chapters that are in the modern day. Stephenson is very like early Clancy, big chunks of information crammed into a great story. Clancy doesn't have an editor anymore, except to check spelling. I can't get through any Jack Ryan books after he became President.

Because I'd rather be the guy schooling Dr. Doom or Darkseid than their horde of hapless minions.

Quote:Because 'make do' is something I do when I don't have a better option. 'Both' is that better option.I'm not sure I understand...Willpower's Quick recovery is available at level 12, has no pre-requisites, and generates more endurance than Stamina anyway. And plenty of other builds made do with only Stamina for endurance. Why would a Willpower Tanker facing tight build choices even have taken pre-inherent Stamina?

Jokes are less funny when they come with required reading.

Everything in Praetoria has problems with stairs. Makes hostage/escort missions a pain.

"Invulnerability and Electric Melee don't go well together because Inv likes to be surrounded by enemies and Electric melee has lots of AoE."
This hurt my brain.
But Starflier, if you kill everything off with AoE's, Invincibility won't be helping your survivability as much.
It won't matter because everything's dead. -
Another consideration is that the brute will have more hitpoints and higher resist caps, which would be helpful to resist-based FA.

One of my favourites. Stephenson does have the tendency to drone on and on and on and on about the technical aspects of the stuff going on in his books, like Tom Clancy on steroids. Feels like reading a damned textbook at times, which is a shame because he really is an entertaining writer the rest of the time.

Not defense, no, but mercs don't need to be anywhere close to melee and FF has the tools to make that happen. It would be so nice if FF had debuffs though; at times it feels like taking down a rhino with a bb gun.

I like threads like this because it usually turns out that the 'worst' combos are ones I'm playing. As it happens, I've got a Grav/Sonic and a Merc/FF. MA/Fire came up in the last thread like this while I was working on mine before the buffs.
That said, the Merc/FF is kinda bad, even with the synergy between the sets. Thankfully he's more of a concept/rp character, so effectiveness is a secondary concern. -
My biggest issue with Tanker DB is that you're forced to take the Tier 1 attack which isn't needed for the good combos in the late game. It does have Bruising for some debuffing, but I found that once I could run the BF->AV combo I didn't touch it anymore.

Good for AoE and ST, but feels lighter due to the multiple, smaller hits of the various attacks. As such, it's a more than adequate set damage-wise, but feels quite different from the smashier style of SS, Stone, and the others.

I have one mage character, a mystical mercernary, and used an Elec/Dark scrapper for powers. With Lightning Rod and the control auras from /Dark it certainly gives me the mage feeling.
It also gives me the click KABOOM feeling. -
Taunt costs 0 end to use, which is why I usually have it on my 'tanky' tanks. Running low on end? Go taunt bot for a short while and recover while not losing aggro.
I love the new Burn. Drops like a bomb, recharges quickly, and is dirt cheap (5.2 end). You're going to be surrounded by enemies anyways, might as well roast 'em.
I like RotP for a combat rez. I wouldn't suggest building combat strategy around it, but it is helpful for those times you do go down. Hitting the hospital and running back sucks, and it does look damned awesome. Plus, the knockback gives you a chance to toggle up before rejoining the fray.
My Fire/Fire is redside and definitely runs more like a scrapper at this point. Looking to shore up the survivability with her next few levels, but she's mainly meant for carnage. -
I'm just tired of having to dodge all the lonely Winterlords that have been abandoned in all the lowbie zones. I'm event'd out.

It's just S/L. The in-game info is presenting the PvP information for some armor powers.

"Siphon Life is a heal, not an attack, and should be slotted like a heal."
"Defenders/Tankers don't deal any damage so don't bother taking/slotting attacks." -
Kinetic Crash for KB powers does 2.5% Smashing res (and a host of other awesome bonuses for Fiery Aura like recharge and KB protection). By 'a host' I mean those two. I also wish it would slot into RotP, because if one power deserves KB slotting it's the explosive rez!

Quote:And to be fair, and not being a film school graduate or anything
We get it, you're not a film snob. You just dump on anything that has special effects and isn't a dialogue driven character piece.
I shall take your forum handle at face value, and bid you adieu.
And Happy New Year! Yay booze! -
Skip it. It blows. Both literally and figuratively as it so happens.

*/Devices.
I like Devices, I really do, but I don't delude myself that it's improving my character's performance. When the big draw of the set is that most of the powers suck so bad you don't feel bad skipping them for pool/concept powers, there's something wrong. -
Magic Kingdom of Landover Series by Terry Brooks - always enjoyed these books about a depressed lawyer who buys a magical kingdom out of a Christmas catalogue.
