I think Bruce as States would be good casting. He could actually make me give a damn about that character.
One that came to mind for me would be Robert Picardo as Positron/Anti-Matter. -
I had a Simpsons flashback when I read the subject title.
Glove slap, baby! -
Those are great, thanks!
Gave me a good bit of insight from where to start building her. Ultimately I'm not interested in having her farm or take on a ridiculous number of mobs, but it'd be nice for her to solo tip missions and stuff without running out of wind. This puts me on the right track.
I admit I'm not in love with the stone secondary. Seems like so many damn toggles, and Rooted throws on a lot of negatives for stat resistance. But the character's concept is that she can control chocolate; and stone is the only thing I can get a choco-armor type look out of. -
Feel free to look me up. The character's name is "Woot of All Evil," I'm on her fairly regularly these days.

Hello everyone! I've recently been going through my old characters for ones that fell by the wayside. I've revamped my Controller and Mastermind into awesome weapons of destruction thanks largely to help from this forum, and I'm hoping to do the same for my brute.
She's Stone/Stone. I made her when brutes came out and had mixed feelings about it. The stone attacks look fantastic, and I like the bulky stone armor, but there were problems. I despised moving along at a crawl with Rooted, and she was constantly plauged by endurance problems throughout her levelling career. Even at level 50 it felt like after four or five attacks, she was huffing and puffing. So I have a few quesitons.
Firstly, since I retired her, IOs came out. I'm assuming that a Stone/Stone brute will want to focus on sets that add Defense, Recharge, and Run Speed. Am I accurate in that guess? I'm not necessarily looking for someone to post a full IO build; but naturally if someone has one just laying around I'd appreciate it.The only 'must have' power I'm planning on leaving out is Granite Armor. I know I'll probably catch heat for it. >.> I didn't like it partially because it didn't fit her roleplaying theme, and partially because it slowed me down oh so much. I never wanted to tank with her, so things worked out.
Incarnate wise, I was torn between Musculuture for the Damage and Run Speed boost, Cardiac for help with the Endurance issues, and Nerve for the Defense and Acc boost, which seems like it would help in fighting purples in trials. Any thoughts?
Thanks so much for any advice! -
Mastermind would easily be my favorite class if they were fixed to the point they should be. I've played one since CoV came out, and have several level 50 ones. Melee pets have always been more of a chore than they need to be, thanks to constantly resummoning and having to mess with positioning. I don't think this issue is ever going to change, sadly. Wen made a really good point in that Masterminds are meant to be a special class not available to everyone after Freedom launches; it'd be nice if they were brought up to that standard.
Running trials on my Bots/Traps is a mixed bag. BAF is plenty of fun; I especially like trapping to my heart's content during the escapee portion, since normally on a team I don't get to make much use of trip mine. The whole trial really works well for an MM; I haven't tried it on a melee one yet, since my melee MMs were sort of retired out of irritation.
Lambda, however, is a problem no matter what. Between the summoning bug and the race to unlock acids/grenades, I usually just say the hell with it and become a nerfed Traps defender until the Marauder fight. The simple fact is we're just not compatible with the "race ahead and take out one target at a time" playstyle. I run into this all the time during LGTFs, or any speedruns, really. We have the option of rushing with the crowd without pets and dying instantly because our HP base isn't strong enough to take glancing blows while running, or we can run with bodyguard on, and when we move out of range since the pets stay behind to fight...then we die. >.>
I love MMs, but they're very, very, very frustrating, and I can see how they could turn new players away. -
Thanks!
Glad to see you're still around, Thor!

Those are awesome.
I'm definitely going to play around with that editor. Nice work, I especially like the Police Roadblock.

Quote:Awesome. I really need to work on getting her the interface slot this weekend, then. Even without any incarnate stuff I'm soloing +2 x5 because of the crazy defense you get with IO sets. The only things that give me trouble are AoE heavy mobs, but that shouldn't be an issue with more offense. It is COMPLETELY over powered. My demon/dark/fire has the dps of a non-incarnate blaster. +3 x8 spawns melt before him. It helps that -resistance powers like Tar Patch and Freezing Rain increase the damage of the procs. I hope to increase it to +4 once I have Judgment and Destiny.
*sigh* I really wish they would have ported over Cold Domination instead of Sonics or gave Sonics a much needed buff. Cold has 2 aoe -resistance powers plus the far superior +defense buffs.. Sonics is going to be trash for anyone but demons.
I'm totally falling in love with MMs again, despite the drawbacks. -
Two chars looking for super groups: one's a hero and one's a villain! Oh my!
Villain Character:
I've been focusing on my villainous mastermind lately, recently finishing IOing her up, and currently working on getting all of her incarnate powers. The downside to running trials and TFs nonstop is that I haven't had much of a chance to get her involved in RP, or for that matter, find her a villain group. I'm looking for one that's a heavy roleplaying group that also enjoys running TFs together. I don't mind EXing, and I enjoy helping lower level players when I can. I don't PvP.
Here's a brief description of the villain character:
Originally designed as one of many security bots for a girl genius' lair, Wootbot Epsilon was never as content with her role as the others. To be fair, she had been given basement guard duty, which was boring at the best of times. After a few months of guarding her creator's winter wear and photo albums, Epsilon finally decided that she had enough. When she put in her resignation she was politely told that robots don't get to file resignations for the duties they were invented for. Offended and angry, Epsilon kindly told her creator where to stick it, and left.
Like most robots that turn away from their creator's path, Epsilon turned evil almost instantly. Thankfully, she wasn't particularly good at it, and spent the next few months scavenging parts for her robot army from broken down Clockwork and Council mechs. When her machines were finally created, they promptly tendered their resignation. So she had to start from scratch all over again.
Finally, she's become a villain of some merit. Going under the evil alias of The Woot of All Evil, an homage to her creator, she has begun forming dark designs for the world. She still has hiccups along the road, mostly due to her programming. She has a difficult time understand vauge human concepts like love, and she has a tendency to believe that everything she sees on TV and movies is real, even if it's a cartoon.
Out of character: Woot of All Evil is a Saturday morning sort of supervillain. Over the top dastardly, with a healthy dose of humor. I'm not a big fan of super dramatic RP, and tend to play my characters with fun in mind.
If there are any potential VGs out there that she would be a good fit for, let me know! I've applied for a few that I saw in the VG list, but haven't heard back from any, so I either assume they just aren't very active, or the character concept didn't fit with them. "Pardon me, we're too emo for robots. *monacle* Come back when you're a vampire."
Hero Character
My primary hero character, Square Woot, is also currently looking for a supergroup. For the past few years she's been sitting in a supergroup that isn't particularly active, but includes a group of close friends I made in CoH. We don't often get to run our characters together even though we chat nonstop on MSN, so I thought I'd start branching her out.
Square Woot is a mad scientist, girl genius, and general all-around nerd. She's constantly building things that typically backfire on her; for every invention that's a brilliant success there's a dozen that nearly land her in jail for disturbing the piece. She's by no means evil but she is fairly absent minded, and tends to not fully consider the ramifications of her actions. She's very much a comic-relief style character, with little to no drama associated with her.
I really really enjoy playing Woot, so much so that I started a webcomic based around her and her old group. I'd absolutely love to RP her with a community again, not to mention play her in task forces, trials, and miscellanious stuff. She's an AR/Dev blaster, so while she's a -bit- nerfed, I'm hoping Incarnates and IOs will help nullify that. I'd like to think that Penny fits in with any supergroup that has room for a technology-oriented character, and doesn't mind a little goofy humor from time to time.
Conceptually, the reason she's looking for a new SG is that she's been retired for the past year or so. Most of her old superhero friends have moved on from Paragon, so she's lacking a crime fighting team. She realizes she needs to make new allies and friends in order to pick up the cape again, since she's physically reaaaaaaaally fragile and a bit of a pansy. Anyways! Those are my characters! Looking forward to meeting new groups!
Oh! And I'm EST as well. I tend to be active most weekday evenings and weekends, but I'm never around on Fridays.
Thanks! -
I was just wondering about this today. I almost have my slot unlocked, and was thinking of going reactive with my Bots/Traps. It almost seems overpowered if they have a chance to trigger on all attacks, since an MM's pets trigger more attacks in a ten second period than any other AT.
-
Penny meets another rival in Monday's comic. New one will be up tomorrow. -
I'd have to echo the opinion that it's unlikely that free players will stay free for very long. It'll be a great way to judge a lot of important things. If they like the combat mechanics, if they like the setting, if they comp can run it... (I would've saved 60 bucks on Rift if I would've guessed that one right. -_-)
If the answer to all those questions are yes, then they'll most likely go premium.
But to adress one of the original topics...costume contests are bassed on opinion anyway. Having limited costume pieces does -not- limit creativity, something that the CoH community has proved time and time again. Some of the best costumes I've seen didn't include booster pack parts, or any of the fancy new ones. -
Quote:I totally didn't know this tip, but that's good to know. Thanks!Another thing to remember, if you are at the end of the mission and have a bot or two down, just resummon. When you exit the mission (or enter the mission for that matter) the bots are resummoned and any buff on a single existing bot will apply to all. This also of course applies to other mastermind pets.
-
I've never run a Ninja/FF, but Def is one of those things you want to stack, stack, stack. Look into getting the IO that gives pets near you %5 extra defense, and when you get your Incarnate Alpha slot, look into Nerve. I believe there's one in that tree that gives +Def to your bubbles, as well as +Acc for your pets.
I'd also suggest getting Manuevers from the Leadership pool. In general, the more you can give them, the better. Between that, dispersion, and the single target shields, they should be hard to hit.
I think Force Field has one of those moves that takes an enemy out of the fight temporarily, doesn't it? If so, I'd recommend it, at least while levelling. It's situation, but they're good for locking down big AoE enemies like Scrapyard Demolitionists, which can be trouble for any MM. Lock them down, deal with their friends, then take them out. -
I've been trying to rework my old Bots/Traps MM, who hadn't gotten much love lately. I'm working on getting her Incarnate powers, but I'm pretty bad when it comes to set building. I'm working on buffing defense for her, using a Provoke to pull the mobs into bodyguard attacking style.
Here's the build I came up with. I'm going for something moderately affordable; I have some money for IOs, but not a ton. Any suggestions, or anything I'm doing drastically wrong?

For my Incarnate Alpha I'm planning on going with Nerve; I think that's the one with the +Def Buff. Judgement was probably going to be the cold cone. Lore...I dunno. WarWorks fits thematically, but I don't know if it has good synergy with Bots. -
Looks like a great guide, thanks. I've been really frustrated with my Bots/Traps lately because in groups, it seems like things are dead before she's done even setting up. I think I was focusing on the wrong things, like using GW's disorient aura. I don't think she even has an AoE immob. >.>
-
I had no idea that Ill/Sonic was a rare combo. I made the character a long time ago, when Sonic first came out, and she sort of sat on the shelf for a few years. I only started playing her again recently, because of all my alts, she seemed like the only one that could really work well with a group. Well, my MMs can too, but MMs are a pain in trials.
From what I've read it seems like Ice was a decent choice for my EPP; I was almost expecting to hear about how it wasn't a good option, so it's reassuring to know I wasn't totally offbase with it.
Gonna look into some recharge boosting sets when I get home. PA is still up a fair amount, but the times it isn't are sad ones indeed. -
Fantastic work. I love your backgrounds; the use of effects and lighting makes the pictures very engaging and exciting to look at.
-
I think it's a neat idea in concept, but I haven't seen a whole lot of SGs based around another game. You might have better luck forming an SG that's inspired by a thing from the DA series and wears its inspiration on its sleeve; like a Paragon-styled Grey Wardens or a CoH Mage Circle, complete with ranks similar to the Templars.
But for doing RP specifically referencing the DA universe, I'd recommend an RP circle on IM or forums. -
I don't think we ever RPed, but I totally remember doing a TF or two with you! It was the sort of character that sticks out to remember.
Welcome back! -
Made some changes to the website, most notably a "New to the comic" section which involves penguin-drawn crayon pictures of the story so far.
I also made a FB page for Wootlabs. If people could stop by and 'like' it I"d appreciate it; I can't unlock a lot of FB features until I hit a certain number. Link to the page is in my sig. -
Hi all. I've been playing my Illusion/Sonic controller a lot more lately, recently getting a few of her incarnate slots taken care of. I haven't been able to find a very firm guide for this build that isn't outdated, so I was hoping to get some input. I'll tell you a little bit about her current build.
Right now I'm focusing on a character that can still solo effectively, but is still useful in both trial and TF situations. Solo, my attack chain consists of my single target hold, followed by Spectral Wounds, the ice blast from the Ice EPP, and Air Superiority. In group situations, I focus on Spectral Terror, Phantom Army, and using Liquify and the rain power from the Ice EPP on cooldown. I run the AoE resistance buff from Sonic and Hover nonstop, and the tank-targeted Sonic debuff when I'm in teams. When I run out of End, which seems to happen quickly if I'm in a team, I use Hibernate to quickly get back up.
For my Incarnate powers: I'm currently running with Cardiac for my Alpha, because it feels like I need the help with end. Eventually I'll cap it with the Cardiac that boosts End Reduction, as well as Fear duration and Damage Resistance buffs. For my Judgement I went with Ion, and I'm focusing on the pure DPS one instead of the -Recovery ones. Interface is Reactive, with a focus on the fire DoT to help with soloing. I haven't unlocked the other incarnate slots yet.
So I have a few questions. First, is there an EPP that would work better for me than the Ice one? I find Hibernate useful but the rain really doesn't seem to be doing much, and I imagine the cold blast is basically no different than any other ranged DPS power from any of the EPPs. Second, are my Incarnate choices decent for what I'm going for? I find a lot of the incarnate stuff fairly overwhelming, there's a ton of choices.
I'm currently not running any IO sets, simply because it seems like a very daunting task. I have tons of inf, but it looks like it'd take hours upon hours finding recipes and ingredients, putting them together, and slotting them. Not to mention that I'm not sure what sets to focus on and build towards.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! -
Thank you so much everyone.
Those nice replies made my day on an otherwise terrible day at work.
