  1. Can't they just do it like the targeted super jump that they had in The Matrix Online? When you click on Teleport you get a birdview over the city and a marker that you place in the accepted range (longer range then what we have now). When your marker is set the characters TP's there. IMO endurance use for travel powers is a waste.

It's a travel power and they get you around but that's it. It's not like with super jump you jump 5 billion miles in one single jump and you don't fly in the same speed as a stealth aircraft. Why would you have to spend endurance in order to use the travel powers which are not really awesome anyway? It's just as redundant as the fact that the boxes you have to destroy in certain missions takes more then one hit to destroy. What is the bloody purpose of having a box that takes 3-5 hits instead of 1 single hit!? To quote The Angry Video Game Nerd; "- IT'S A**!!!"

I played Regnum Online, Conqueror Online and particularyMu Online for years with buddies and those games makes you want to kill yourself over and over again every more second you endure their mind shredding repetivensess. *shivers just thinking of the blasphemy* So no, CoX is not repetitive IMO.

There exist a loop of same maps I will agree on this, but when you are in a fun mission group or with your SG buddies you're always having a blast no matter what you do in CoX. Whether it's "Defeat all on a boat", "Defeat all enemies in the office" - there's nothing more satisfying than watching 8 different characters power up their abilities and buffs and blast away!

Sure, there's Snakes for the first 5 levels if you choose Burke.
    And Longbow throughout.
And briefly there's (avoidable) Scrapyarders, Luddites, Coralax.
But most of the foes are the same: Hellions, Skulls, Lost, Rikti, CoT, Arachnos, Crey, Family, Malta, KoA, Nemesis, Freakshow, Carnies etc.

Newspaper Missions aren't much different than Scanners. There's:
*X is calling you out, deal with him.
    *Kidnap/Rescue Civilian from X enemy faction's clutches.
    *Retrieve/Steal $Item stolen by $Faction.

But if the missions (and thier pesky habit of being all in the same zone ) still bother you, you can also also just AE the Brute, using arcs tagged as Heroic content, then wait for GR.
The music is actually pretty boring on red side, so is the architecture.

I agree with Juggernaut being more brutal then Wolverine. Brutalometer:

    1# Juggernaut

2# Magneto (Yes he can be darn brutal with his metal control)

    3# Sabertooth

    4# Wolverine

Mm, probably the expansion will come out just right. I hope that they will focus more on the gameplay then the graphics though as the majority of the discussions seem to revolve this, which ofc is a product of that UM is one of the things we actually know will ship around with the expansion. If the devs only could release some info. :/
  9. The Ultra Mode is over hyped. I'm more interested in what they will add to expand the gameplay of the CoX universe.

No, the problem is that someone decided to flanderise the concept and make the City of Villains a city of villains ONLY. Which makes no sense, since City of Heroes has more villains than heroes in it and yet no-one ever complains that, because there's no PvP, heroes never get to fight villains. They do. Because villains are on every street corner, in every alley, on every rooftop, in every park, inside every building and just basically all over the place.

Segregation and closed-options PvP aren't the problem. If City of Heroes is a city of heroes and villains, then City of Villains is a city of villains and villains. And villains. And THAT is the problem with the game design - single-minded, one-sided, short-sighted design that saw the villainous counterpart to the all-encompassing hero game be rendered with such needless limits. I've taken enough flak to shoot down a flying aircraft carrier over this, but I still say that City of Villains was designed to be too evil, too depressing, too run-down and with too many villains. The actual CITY in City of Villains didn't need to be that much different. Ideally, heroes would live in a crime-ridden city that needed their help and villains would live in a crime-free city that gave them opportunities to be evil. Realistically, both cities needed to have good sides and bad sides. Our heroic city has places where it feels like the heroes have won and only petty crime remains while other places feel like crime has taken over. Villains don't have that luxury. They can pick between dirty places where crime rules, dirty-ish places where crime rules or evil-looking places where crime rules.

To my eyes, Going Rogue won't really add all that much to City of Heroes, as it will add THE OTHER DAMN HALF of City of Villains that should have been there from the start - a nice-looking place to be evil in.
I do agree with this. Also in City of Villains you are never really a Super Villain... You're more of an Arachnos or Mercenary thug where in CoH you actually play as a Super Hero to save the world. The Villains never seem to have the same impact on the fate of the world as the heroes. Villains just hang out at the Rogue Islands defeating other villains. No evil schemes. No taking heroes as hostages. Nothing..

On the other hand.. For us heroes it's good to know that the villains won't leave the rogue islands any time soon

My issue with the maps isn't the repetitiveness of them, it's the fact that half of them make no friggin' sense. Seriously, have you EVER seen an office building laid out like the ones in this game? Who designed these buildings, M.C. Escher?

Or warehouses with shipping containers sitting in hallways that it would be physically impossible to move them from. What, did they build the warehouse around them?

Or the auto shop that has half a mile of hallways, and only 3 cars in the whole building.

See what I mean? It's not repetitiveness for me. If the maps actually made sense it wouldn't bother me at all that they all look the same. Office buildings don't vary a whole lot even in real life, just different colored walls and cubicles.
I believe that they are not meant to 'make sense'. The areas are sketchy and unidimensional just like in a cheesy cartoon tv-serie and that's prob what they were aiming for. Just take a look at; Teen Titans, Fantastic Four, Freakazoid, Darkwing Duck.. you name it. The buildings and the areas they venture through and the equipment in these areas does not make any sense.

You run the dungeons that drop the items you need until you get that item, this can take many, MANY tries to get that item (for example even though I've long since passed the need to complete the level 60 dungeon set called Beaststalkers I had at level 60. I use to run Stratholme undead side solo at 70 and 80 to see if the pants part of the set would ever drop since it didn't when I was level 60...I counted around 60 runs of Stratholme UD and still no drop of that particular item).

Then once you're finally all tooled up from the dungeons you go and raid the same instance for months on end until everyone is appropriately geared to move on to the next one.

So the entire endgame is based around boring repetition of the same instances and yet it gets a free pass?

(and yes I have played WoW, I played it for four years, so not just trolling).

I wish there was a CoH app for my iPod Touch (which is how I'm able to access the forums for now). I'll keep in touch as best I can
If you're on windows xp there's a very easy fix for this error but you will need to have another harddrive with windows installed on. The reason why it says "BOOTMGR" is missing is because the file "BOOTMGR" have changed it's name to lowercase letters which result in the system not finding the file. What you do is put the disk which can't find bootmgr as slave, boot up with another windows xp harddrive as primary. Find the "bootmgr" file, change it's name to "BOOTMGR", shut down the system. Set the disk that couldn't find "BOOTMGR" as primary again, remove the other disk and voila, your system will work again!'

Edit: I see that you got it working again. Congrats and welcome back to the game!
  16. I do not see this "repetiveness" in CoX. I love to whack people down wherever it's caves, offices, bla bla. Whacking people simply never gets old.
CoX offers an excellent system for you to try out a millions of combinations of characters power sets and builds. If you don't like your build, simply respec or make a new character. Every character you make is a whole new experience.

WoW on the other hand is an extremely repetitive game with it's 80 levels loooong quest grind, boring unsatisfying PVE killing and it's 'based on end-game stuf concept (yes, i have played wow in my days and I had a couple of level 80's before I quit so I'm not just trolling).

In all. CoX is a MMO and every MMO out there have some kind of repetitiveness in the end. I don't care much for that the instances have the same maps. It's nothing that I ponder about while I'm rescuing and whacking ppl down, giggling as villains hit every wall in a office corridor. The city zones are so varied in the game that it should be enough for people who want to experience views.

If I understood Quinch correctly he was aiming on how you will save resources while "- Visibly see the next zone in Praetoria".

A lot of games usually just flatten and shadow(fog) out these distant textures to work around this problem and creates the illusion of something existing further away from you. The problem realistically is that in real life the weather is not always foggy and the human eye can see things at great distances if the weather is clear. As I read it from the Devs they seemed like they wanted more realistic distant textures and how they will solve this so that it works is beyond me.

In fact, I think all I'd leave Longbow as they currently exist with is PvP Zones and Mayhem Missions. Maybe their supporting role in some of the RWZ arcs too. Everything else they do would be replaced by some other hero group.

I'm also all for an expansion of the Banished Pantheon. They seem like too serious of a threat to only matter during the middle levels.

  21. To find teams easily; don't watch the broadcast, gently ask people on the Find Member list directly if you can join them for a mission or two. Playing for less then a month now I already got a strong friends list containing several very social and nice persons who always let me team up with them. There's people everywhere around the streets on Virtue when I play .

And probably they haven't merged the servers because of the release of GR. If they are not merging now they are better prepared for server loads if GR should attract lots of new players.
  22. I live in the EU to and I also play on the US servers. It generally works for me if I choose the american version of plaync a couple of times. Maybe I'm in luck but I have not experience the OP's problem with the site. If it jumps back to EU I just reclick it to US and it stays on the US site.

    They should really merge...
