Tried to play a little this morning, to see if it was due to primetime connections. Nope. I ran one mission without lost packets and then my netgraph turned into stoplights again.
-
I will chip in here too, and say that my lag - specifically the number of lost packets - has made the game almost unplayable since the servers came back up on Tuesday evening. Before this week, the only problem I ever had with the game was a low framerate on some of the more complex maps.
-
Just to calm everyone down, Posi Part 2 is not awarding the WST bonuses. We just ran them back to back, and those of us that did both only got the bonus on Part 1, and the player who joined us for Part 2 did not get a bonus.
-
Quote:Indeed.Avatea's post there is misleading. You only get the WST reward for one of them, even if you run them both. The second is normal rewards, although you do get credit for the Assistant badges.
Other possibility is that it actually is supposed to, in which case nothing seems to have changed.
Just ran both back to back, and only received a Notice on the first one. Someone who did NOT run the first one with us DID NOT get the bonus either. Posi Part 2 is still bugged. -
Wait wait wait, the downtime tomorrow is 12 hours, and you're starting the coffee talk at hour six, and you're going to go until the servers come back up? This is going to be one epic coffee talk!
(As an aside, I had a ton of fun listening to last week's coffee talk on my Droid while sitting in the bank waiting to talk to someone. Too bad I couldn't chat, though. TheSpaceNut will be there tomorrow, although there's no way I'll make it for six hours if you guys really stay online that long!) -
Quote:Well, my first thought would be that there are not enough relative timeline dates to make an entire timeline out of them. From the Freaklympics arc (lvl 25-29 hero-side), this is the end mission text for mission 5
This has got me thinking - when is the 'present' in an MMO? References like this (and most of the in-game time references are similar as far as I can see) don't seem to be compatable with an objective time-line. Upstart's arrest is always going to be 'a few months ago' whenever the arc is played. Are there enough of these references to justify an alternative 'relative' timeline giving dates as '6 weeks ago' or 'last year'?
The second thought is some kind of timeline for progression. It wouldn't seem unreasonable to equate one level to one month of in-game time, meaning that your progression to 50 takes a little over 4 years. Several arcs take place over long periods of time.
But yeah, it's tough to make it all work in a timeline fashion. -
My uStream liveblog copied over:
9:09 - Steampunk pack!
9:11 - Close second: My Little Pony pack.
9:13 - Steampunk backpack! Clunker aura w/ trail of oil. Brass chestpiece. Strappy boots. Very Victorian.
9:14 - Steampunk rifle. Victorian decor - animated victorian patterns on your body.
9:15 - Updated face technology - more polies, more detail. Steampunk backpack has jets of steam.
9:17 - Mechanical wings part of the steampunk pack, concept art.
9:19 - New temp travel power: Stalling... stalling... Steam powered jump!
9:21 - Described costume change: "Oil Strike". Oil geyser comes out of ground after a stomp and by the time is vanishes - new costume!
9:24 - Releasing June 1st, 2011.
9:26 - Gilbert departs; Posi arrives!
9:27 - Global server access May 3rd.
9:28 - Extended maintenance that day, of course. If there is a bug, it will be delayed, of course.
9:30 - Passport bag: not enabling it yet; eventually will be enabled for everyone. Reactivation week starting Tuesday May 3rd through May 10th with global server access. (No Double XP.)
9:31 - Global rename token will be issued at well.
9:33 - For global rename, all trial accounts will be prepended with Trial_, or something like it, to allow paying customers to make sure they keep their name.
9:37 - Inflatable obstacle winner is The Television, again.
9:43 - Posi started June before launch, so closing in on 8 years. They started making missions in a notepad-like environment, but quickly switched to something like Excel.
9:44 - Superhero game must be populated with NPCs, and Posi wasn't sure how they were going to pull that off. Z recalls beta where NPCs with names were walking around.
9:45 - "Famestring" is the text you hear from NPCs on the street recalling your exploits. It was fun writing the failure strings.
9:46 - First indication they had a hit on their hands was that all his developer friends went out and bought it instead of asking to trade for it. That's a AAA title definition. Like a food critic paying for his meal.
9:48 - CoH was one of the "earlier" MMOs.
9:50 - Introduced a lot of new innovations when it was released. Carried over into most modern MMOs. Which are you the most proud of? Posi - Badge system.
9:51 - Posi suggested "What if we tie it to things you do, instead of just visiting places?" and that influenced Achievements, Accolades, etc.
9:52 - Nate: Sidekicking was my favorite innovation. First day in game he teamed with level 30ish friends in Brickstown as an nrg/nrg blaster.
9:53 - Posi: We were not hardcore, so we designed the MMO for US, not the hardcore players.
9:55 - Z most appreciates scaling instances that ramp up to your team size - from soloable to true group content smoothly. Posi: That leads to interesting stories about 600 5th column in one building trying to steal one painting.
9:56 - Nate is a big fan of the Tip system and the organic way it leads to alignment.
9:57 - Yes, they are going to SDCC this year.
10:00 - Web fiction for Praetorian Surge (sounds like a soda): More details coming!
10:02 - Players were camping spawn sites during the Shadow Shard invasion - they've learned since then...
10:03 - Who actually sent the letter to the villain in the web fiction? It is a mystery.
10:04 - Producer's Letter: Excited about the 7 years of story they have under their belts. Revealed new zone coming in I21. But not ready to give any more details, but several people on the forums have been pretty close. Will advance some story lines to their eventual close. Very cool zone event. Stay tuned for details.
10:06 - Black Pebble throws a water bottle at Zwillinger.
10:07 - Keyes Island Reactor trial going into closed beta in May - extrapolate release date. (But that isn't I21 beta. iTrials are being released outside of Issue releases.)
10:09 - Q&A begins.
10:11 - Gilbert is back.
10:12 - What will the Omega slot be? "Awesome, and the pinnacle of the system, but not the final slot. Why paint ourselves into the corner. You'll always be chasing after 'the next big thing'."
10:14 - With the inclusion of backpacks in the steampunk pack, can we expect more? "Yes, eventually. Backpacks are popular."
10:15 - Wings do not fold up into backpacks. But they are still awesome.
10:16 - How far into development of Brass Monday did you get? Posi - "Lead artist said no way we can do that. Strip out phones, cars, etc. But it was in the design docs."
10:18 - "We use ParagonWiki more than we use the story bible. We use it to check what we've already told you."
10:19 - What sort of extra details are in the new face tech? "Looks like more definition on the nose, eyes, etc. Looks more expressive." (Team makes faces.) "Looks like geometry, but it isn't, so it doesn't make things more graphically intense."
10:21 - Posi: "In English, art magic."
10:22 - Team acting like old men, talking about days before internet. Talking about an interviewer re: using Usenet - he learned it in his Media History class...
10:23 - xckd. Bingo. Game dev retirement home has a "fat pipe".
10:24 - Will incarnate raids end with us fighting Emperor Cole? SHUT DOWN BY BLACK PEBBLE. "If it didn't end with Cole, where would it end?"
10:26 - How much would it take to make Shard co-op? Posi:"There are thing that we think will be huge, but turn out to be doable, and things that look doable, but aren't, once they start. We did investigate, and it's not as small as we wanted to do."
10:28 - Will we ever have updated SG options? Inheritance? "If you're SG leader is on an inactive account, contact CS and they'll be able to transfer it to someone with an active account."
10:30 - Well of the Furries! What happened to the audio chat? "We NEVER mentioned audio chat... It's not happening. Plus do you really want the illusion shattered?"
10:31 - What is the intensity of the Keyes Island trial? Posi: "Don't stand in stuff. You can't really sleep through it. Probably the most complicated one so far. Highest ever is like a 6 or 7 on scale of 1 to 10. We're casual."
10:34 - Possible to make an option for non-flapping wings? "It's a great idea and we can investigate it."
10:36 - Posi and Second Measure arm wrestle... Posi wins!
10:38 - Do we have any more plans for uses for Incarnate shards? "I think we do, but it's a question for Black Scorpion."
10:39 - How many red names play Minecraft? "A large amount, but not us."
10:40 - Can't we just enable facepalm emotes? "Noted."
10:41 - "We expected iTrials to be run multiple times, but we're looking at giving parity to BAF and Lambda in terms of Master badges and astral merits."
10:42 - Will Positron accept a dance challenge? "Probably later this summer." (We need a training montage. MONTAGE!)
10:43 - And that wraps it up!
10:45 - The Second Measure proceeds the first cut...
10:46 - Reminder: Booster packs on sale. -
Quote:That's the reference that's already in place. I was hoping there was another one...This is from the background text for Angelo Vendetti, a contact in Port Oakes.

If no one on the team has done it, plan for 2 hours. If a few people have done it on their alts, plan for an hour and a half, since you know the tricks. Did it in an hour and 20 minutes last night with a team of 8, some of whom had done it before and some of whom had not.

Quote:That just introduces further confusion. According to what I understand, Hamidon didn't create the Will of the Earth until after the Rikti War, and become The Hamidon not long after that, so presumably the DE didn't exist before the Rikti War.According to the Woodsman's description, the Devouring Earth killed him and used his power to take over Woodvale, creating Eden. My first thought was that whenever Eden happened was when the Woodsman was killed, but further investigation suggests otherwise...
One of the Savant plaques states that Synapse rescued people from Woodvale as the Rikti were tearing it apart, which means that Eden didn't happen until after the first Rikti attack in 2002. By this point, we have two potentially-conflicting accounts as to who destroyed Woodvale.
The description of Eden itself states that the Devouring Earth directly responded to urban development, and the Reconnaissance Officer states that it was primarily a fight between Crey and the Devouring Earth.
All well and good, I thought. Maybe the Devouring Earth and Crey were at a stalemate until the Rikti showed up, at which point the Devouring Earth were able to kill Woodsman and take over. But then there's this:
The revelations from Scout during the Numina Task Force suggest that the Devouring Earth took Woodsman a long time ago. Numina states that Scout was active "in the early part of the twentieth century," which implies that he stopped being active since that time. This can be explained by his capture by Nemesis (which did indeed happen a long time ago), but he specifically states that happened while searching for the missing Woodsman. The Woodsman is revealed to have been abducted by the Devouring Earth and, as the Shard of Kalak can testify, reduced to a spiritual essence.
What to take away from this? Perhaps the information is conflicting with itself. If not, then the Woodsman was taken by the Devouring Earth in the early 1900's, but his powers were not used to transform Woodvale into Eden until sometime after the first Rikti attack in 2002.
Then we get into the argument of, did Hamidon Pasalima create the Will of the Earth, and therefore the DE, from scratch, or did the Will of the Earth let him tap into some force of nature that had already existed and had empowered the DE for long before the human Hamidon's existence? You have to go through some convoluted tricks to avoid glaring inconsistencies...
*shines the Protean symbol again* -
My issue with this is that there are two different stories. The first, from the Know Your Adversary page (http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf...l_pirates.html) is that the Red Hands are the ghosts of the slaughtered French soldiers.
The second, from Ghost Widow's journal (http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf..._-_july_7.html), is that the Red Hands were pirates killed by other pirates.
Just trying to figure out some of the quirks in the lore. -

Quote:Of course! How did I not make that connection? I was thinking that it had something to do with the banishing of the god that make up the Banished Pantheon, but it makes total sense that once Hequat imprisons the Leviaithan, that Merulina wouldn't communicate any more.Vincent Ross's arc states that the Leviathan beneath Sharkhead Isle is in fact Merulina, who transformed at some point during the Oranbegan civil war to destroy the Mu. Since Hequat imprisoned it under the island (where it seems to be in a state of forced sleepiness), Merulina hasn't had much to say.

Quote:Awesome. It takes a little fidgeting to make everything work, but "late 70s" seems to avoid any drastic conflicts. BAB would be 18 or 19, while Justin is 10ish. (If Justin is only 6 at the time, then BAB is only 14, and a little young to be a working superhero, especially given his build in the comic.) A little more than 20 years ago, but I can understand BAB's memory being hazy. This one (and events leading up to it) is related in issue 7 of the Top Cow comic. Dating is given as "close to twenty years ago" (and Justin Sinclair is depicted as being around six years old). The comic is available for download here.

Adding a few more events with dates, but no sources, that I would like to be able to source:
1887 - Mysterious bones found near Giza, Egypt. (What is this referring to?)
1940s - The Council splits off from Arachnos.
Late 1940s - The original Arachnos founder, The Weaver, is killed by the Red Widow and Lord Recluse.
(Probably 2003, based on other events) - First sighting of Devouring Earth creatures. -
So one of my big projects over the last month or so has been completely revamping the In-Game Timeline over at ParagonWiki: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/In-game_timeline
I'm closing in on completion, and now I need help! There are about 20 events that either no known date associated with them, or no date and no source. If you have dates or sources for any of the following events, please post them!
Events needing dates:
* The goddess Merulina falls silent, leaving the Coralax unguided and confused.
* The Banished Pantheon finds Adamastor and brings him to Paragon City.
* Rogue Islands - Massacre of the Red Hands pirates.
* Manuel Marcone arrested in Spain by Interpol and sentenced to 35 years in an European prison. Gang wars start in Port Oakes.
* Sharkhead Isle - The local hero Scrapyard is murdered by Mako.
* Woodsvale is attacked by Devouring Earth creatures. The hero Woodsman is killed.
* Tempter is arrested and imprisoned.
* Imad Malak finds Scirocco's relics.
* The mercenary Ernesto Rodriguez finds the Black Scorpion's battlesuit.
* Paragon City Power Crash.
Events needing dates AND sources:
* Arrival of Stheno to the Rogue Isles.
* The Zig is built.
* The Golden Giza is built.
* Protean attacks Manticore's house and kills both of his parents.
* Statesman forms Freedom Corps as a direct response to Hero Corps.
* Founding of the Hellions.
* Upstart is arrested and sent to the Zig.
* Demetrios Vasilikos (Dr. Vahzilok) goes crazy.
* Project FURY begins.
Also, if you have sources for any of the events on the timeline that have [Citation needed] next to them, feel free to post them here, or on the wiki talk page, and I'll incorporate them into the page soon!
Thanks for your help!
(Also, Zwillinger, if you see this and can point Protean my way for historical info, you'll be at the top of my list of awesome people, even though I didn't win a shirt in the chat today.) -

Quote:I think the biggest issue here is the iXP needed to unlock the slot. It feels more repetitive to do the same content half a dozen times to be able to slot anything in the slot. However, once you do get the slot unlocked, you'll have enough incarnate components to slot way more than a common. By the time I got Judgement unlocked, I had enough salvage to slot it with a rare, if I wanted to. (I held on to threads and only made an uncommon.)I have the e≈act opposite experience.
I do have limited playtime but I logged 7 hours on one character last night. That character now has both master badges, a small stockpile of components (but not enough of teh specifically needed items to complete a single power once the slots are open unless I breakdown astrals) 32 threads 4 empyrean merits and 20-somthing high astral merits. She's at 88% BAF experience and 60-ish lamda experience.
The new stuff seems vastly harder. I solo'd the Alpha mission, bought a Grai matter, ran one ITF one Lady Gray and had my slot filled with a common. I'm at about 9 or 10 hours total after almost two weeks and the new ones aren't unlocked yet.
WAAAAAY harder.
Hell, in a month I got 12 characters to level shift on Alphas. In two weeks I have 1 character almost unlocked on judgment slot.
If the slot had been unlocked through another mechanism, I could have put a common in it after probably 2 trial runs, which is about the same investment as a common alpha. However, since the it takes several more runs to actually be able to slot anything, it feels like it takes longer.
If you're looking at just slotting commons, Alpha is way faster because of the mechanics of the slot, but by the time you get to the rare level, the other slots seem to fill faster. -

Well, consider that Primal Duray hates superpowered beings, and went rogue from the government, whereas Praetorian Duray works with superpowered beings all the time, and is about as loyal to the government as you can get.
That's pretty mirror image to me... -
Quote:I would have done that, except the GF is playing on the desktop now. I've even use this laptop at HER place before, and the wireless there gave me no problems. I just set up my wireless router today, and it's super slow on the wireless. (I don't know if it'll be slow on the desktop connection now that it's also run through the router. If it IS, it could be a router firmware issue.)Interesting, well for me, this all happened when I uninstalled Steam & reinstalled it again & the NCSoft Launcher was using the COX Client from the Architect Edition from Steam, so when I got rid of Steam, it got rid of COX.
I thought if I used my copy of Going Rogue & installed it from the disk, it would make things go much faster. Boy was a I wrong...
Anyway, please let me know what you come up with, I'm at the end of my rope.
Maybe we should both try connecting our Laptops to our Modems or something. *shrugs*
Edit: I checked everything having to do with ports, and they are all clear. -
Oddly enough, the launcher is really slow for me now too, but ONLY on my wireless connection. On my desktop, which is connected via cat5, I get a fast enough download speed that I never even notice what the speed is. Now, on my laptop, which is connected via wireless router, I'm getting a measly 22 kb/s, which means the latest patch is taking me several hours to get!
I'm wondering if OP and I are both having port issues... -
Just for the sake of science, someone should run a Sister Psyche TF and see if they get a Notice.
