  6. Then they need to charge more, because as it stands everyone takes a look at it and laughs.

    No one I knew needed rent/upkeep to use bases. A lot of people I know had the old rent free plot and enjoyed their bases.
  7. Mark the passage of time: Look at character join dates. No one that I know can remember how many rent payments you make, so there is this nice invention you might have heard about, it is called a calendar.

    I fail to see how upkeep encourages participation...

    It is:

I could go on, but I want to get a bit of play time in.
  9. Edit mode is different, as they plan for it. As soon as you exit base edit mode, you are instantly moved to where you started. So at the point of entering the edit mode, your location is saved for you to return to. Note that you cannot enter edit mode anywhere other than the entrance for this reason.

    If it were only an hour, they might have problems. In the case of days, months, or even years (entirely possible), there is no guarantee that the base would even exist (sg disbanded, you were kicked from sg, etc.). It might happen even if you were logged out for 5 minutes (being kicked from sg).

    As to going back to a mission, the mission is kept alive for an hour at most. I have gone to the hospital and come back ten minutes later (without logging out) and the mission was reset. So that argument doesn't hold any water.

    As I said, not going to happen. It has zero chance in even a poorly designed system of ever being done and while it has its flaws, the base system isn't that bad in the first place. All the prevention of logging off in your base amounts to is idiot-proofing the system to make sure nothing bad happens to paying customer's characters.

    Actually, I want to expand on this and say that this WOULD BE impossible.

    The reason it would be impossible is that there would be no way to assume that the configuration of the base would stay the same from the time that you log off until the time that you log back in. The room could be deleted, something put in the same spot, or the base might be locked. Any of these would prevent you from logging back into your character and would force GM intervention to fix the situation. Now multiply this by thousands or millions of characters. That would be a nightmare.

    In other words: It will NEVER happen.

    Factually incorrect. Sunstorm and the Issue 13 patch notes specifically stated that PVP base raids have been disabled. That is the cause of the missing base raids, not lack of motivation. At this point players are simply incapable of starting a base raid.

    If you are solo, you can get 1 rep per defeat of a single target/team per 10 minutes (you can defeat others for rep sooner), +5 rep if they are 20 or more rep above you, and the decay rate is 0.2 rep a day.

    If you are on a team, the rep you earn is divided equally.
  15. I'd just charge a transaction fee worth 10% of value of vendoring the item as "postage". If the item can't be sold to a vendor (like IOs), then a percentage of the sale value during a respec.

    This provides a cost to make sure that people are not using it for everything, it provides an Inf-sink, and it allows people to move things around their characters without needing a second account or 3rd party.

    There is no need to put time limits in place.

    Actually I think you mean "heckled in fear" instead of "profoundly shot down". The issue isn't going to go away just because some people are frightened about what will happen to the market.

    As the people in the market section keep telling everyone else: The market will adapt.

    A main energy device (Power Crystal / Basic Generator) + 2 energy aux (Crystal Focus / Circuit Breaker) provides enough power (1,300 energy) for a supercomputer, 11 telepads, 21 beacons, a couple of invention tables and a Salvage Vault.

    Take a look at this base:

    It has 10 telepads, 20 beacons, a supercomputer, and some other stuff requiring power. 1 Energy main+1 aux was enough to keep it all powered.
  23. Or change to a 1x4 control room and add +2 databases. This would produce +100 control. This would put you nearer to the supercomputer's price (mainframe+6 databases is 150,000 less than a supercomputer).

    The plot upgrade is cheap, and rent is based on other factors than plot size, so putting in a 1x4 control room should be easy enough.
