She will actually need to purchase the game from the website. Once she does so, she should UPGRADE her account with the serial code that she is given. Once that happens, you should automatically be credited with the free month.

However, she can buy a GAME CARD ($20, one month of play, 30 days of fly pack) and be good to go.
She just can't get a TIME CARD ($15, 30 days of play; $30, 60 days of play, $45, 90 days of play) and expect to continue playing.
She needs an actual retail code. The GAME CARDS contain a retail code (and so do all the box sets). TIME CARDS do not contain a retail code, they just add time.
