Quote:This version of the idea sounds like a perfect compromise. If we're not uploading music ourselves (which, seriously, nobody who thinks about it for more than a second would realize is remotely feasable thanks to all the legalities, royalties, etc.) but picking already available, in-game music, I'd call it feasible.
Line: Music
Default: None
Drop down list (with "play" button) with various already-in-game clips.
You wouldn't need to add the whole thing to your 100k, just a line or two that calls it. -

And finally, I seem to recall that the Master Architect isn't working.

Quote:Well, given that someone has decided to start tagging my posts or threads that I post in with a tag calling me names, it should be very obvious as to some of the rep people leave. There is malice behind it and some are using the ratings (thread, rep, tags) as a means of bullying. This clearly breaks forum rules of behaviour, and should not be tolerated.I have to ask, why is this so bothersome to you? Not trying to be snarky or inflamatory, but is forum rep really worth getting upset over? I'm just curious why some find it so bothersome.
To bring back what was said above, it is schoolyard bullying at its worst. -
Quote:Rep comments still exist, and will continue to exist as long as people are able to use that button at the bottom of each post. The fact that they are next to impossible to find just points out one flaw of the system. The fact that whoever set up the forums did half a job and doesn't know how to let people choose if they want to see the comments or not shows the lack of thought that went into enabling this "feature".Rep comments no longer exist, no-one reads tags and I don't even know what these "stars" you're talking about are.
Thread rating = Thread Stars. I think back on it that I should have said "post count" instead of stars there.
I said I would treat some tags as griefing, not that I expected the moderation team to do so.Quote:I never said that all means of communication need to be fully permitted without need for moderation.
Yet people are still allowed to make comments, the rep count is still in a prominent spot (if I disable rep, I shouldn't see anyone's rep pips).Quote:Just like posts are moderated, so must all things, and one of the reasons rep comments were disabled was to free up moderators from having to chase after the idiots who abused them.
I think that should be up to the moderation team and I'm perfectly willing to differ to their judgment about tags.Quote:I never said tags should be allowed to escape moderation, but "snarky" and "nonsensical" tags are not things that should be shot on sight.
I seriously dislike graffiti when it isn't in a place that hasn't okay'd it. My family has been victimized by graffiti vandals and I can say from personal experience that there is a social cost to it.Quote:Snarky ones are perhaps borderline griefing. Nonsensical ones are more graffiti: a clutter and an ugly waste of space.
I would fully get behind these. I'd be 100% sold if they add in the ability to hide the rep display (post pips) if you opt-out of the system and the ability to completely remove yourself from the system.Quote:Perhaps:
1) Keep the Rep system and comments, but allow them to STAY collapsed in the User CP so that folks can opt out of seeing them.
(As stated before, I would like to participate in it, but would like those who hate it to be able to opt out, yay for options)
2) Have them automatically signed by the user, rendering them into a form of PMs that are quicker to send and come with a +/- of skittles attached. Yumm, piggy likes candy!

Quote:Really, 16+?Actually, with CoV, that game is 16+...you'd think they'd give a little more leeway.

City of heroes and villains has always been rated T for Teen by the ESRB:
Even though the GMs will enforce towards E10+. I don't mind that.Quote:TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language. -
Quote:To be honest I keep forgetting that the tags exist. If there was a way for the user to show or hide them, I'd like that too.Hey! Hands off my post count!
You know, there's trying to tidy things up and then there's being pedantic. You talk about "schoolyard antics," yet you're trying to suggest some kind of strict authoritarian order that is, quite honestly, on the exact same level. Let people have their fun and stop trying to enforce rigid rules of behaviour on people, specifically when they do no harm.
As to the "you're trying to suggest some kind of strict authoritarian order", I'm not. I'm trying to suggest ways for the community reps to foster a sense of inclusiveness.
As far as "specifically when they do no harm", give me a break. You know as well as I do that some people here and in the game have zero sense as to what constitutes "harm". I had a friend last night completely upset because of 3 individuals picking on her. Is this the "harmless fun" (their words) that you are suggesting we foster? Tags, stars, ratings, and rep comments can all be used for the same purpose. Even above, using the rep system or using tags to "label" someone as a troll can foster bad feelings. -
Quote:I know at least one poster that sought negative rep from the beginning. Usually a troll is very obvious on this forum, even without forum rep.Actually, it can be helpful. For example, every once in a while you get a player with around 3 posts that goes on a tirade on some random issue in the game. Enough negative rep from a troll post, and it lets players quickly identify a troll. For the most part, I usually don't see those with red dots that haven't earned them.
Yeah, and this brings me back to my initial post... -
Quote:Post count comments are generally aimed at "Forum Cartel" posters (even before I became one). I've seen it happen both ways: a high post count person has been critical of a poster's low count.Post count is nothing but a measure of how chatty someone is. A six-paragraph in-depth discussion being wieghted eqaully to a "no u!" post.
Usually, the only devisiveness it brings is when someone cannot back up an argument, they say, "Well, you are just being mean to me 'cus my post count is lower than yours! Everyone with a high count is a jerk, an an elitist cus they don't like my idea for <whatever>!". I wouldn't care if it were listed or not.
There should be a tag cloud editor, but I'd treat snarky or nonsensical thread tags as griefing.Quote:But if you're going to get rid of these, then what about snarky or nonsensical thread tags? They're used far more than the two I just mentioned.
Edit:
Another thought just occurred to me-- How are users that have the system on able to tell which posts got griefing negative rep so that it could be reported? The simple answer is they can't. -
Quote:Peacbringers can get Bright Nova at level 6 as well. Both versions (Dark, Bright) are at the flight speed cap. At level 10, Peacebringers get the equal to hover.Warshades: Can fly via Dark Nova at level 6 and super jump at 24 with Nebulous Form. Finally, at level 10, they get Recall Friend for free.
Warshades get Black Dwarf and both the dwarfs can also combat jump. -
Quote:Squishor, please ignore this unhelpful reply.NO!! You must solo it on +4/x8 with an unslotted Force Field/Assault Riffle Defender or it doesn't count!!!
......that would have been a lot funnier if I had replied first here.
Positron commented a few years ago when he was in charge of badge issues that the game did not distinguish between different ranks for badge credits. I'd take his word over Claw's. -
Quote:It is divisive and harmful to the community as a whole. It is just another e-peen contest.Reputation is worthless anyway. Do what I do and just disable it, like you already have. "Fixing" it at this point is not going to happen, since the mods apparently enjoy treating it as a "forum game." Which is just another way to acknowledge that it is completely worthless.
We were told that they were going to hide post count on these new forums to lessen the friction of the old/new posters. Instead we get another popularity contest.
The following forum mechanisms should be removed to promote community:
- Reputation.
- Thread Stars.
- Post count.
These three systems divide the community more than they bring them together. -
Quote:Ways to get around now:o.O It's just a mission transporter. Sounds a bit different to me.
Unless you mean, you lose the risk of travelling to a mission.
Personally, I'd just be happier with a reduced time on the current mission transporter.
Reduce it to 1 hour. THat would make it more handy. Currently, I pretty much use it for TFs I know will have a long travel time, at least once.
- Ouroboros hub zone.
- Green & Yellow lines
- Rogue Island Ferries
- Pocket D TP
- WW & BM teleporters
- Pillars of Ice & Flame if you know what contacts are in what zone.
- Base TP power and they can send you to almost any zone.
- Mac/Valkyrie pack mission transport power.
I have a good guess as to why the recharge is 2 hours: there are a number of 2 hour timed missions in CoH. It would also make a farce of the travel needed during the Shadow Shard Task Forces. Another abuse I could see is Radio or Paper missions:
- Select a defeat boss mission.
- Stealth to end to defeat boss.
- Profit with the end of mission bonuses.
Additionally, there is the fact that at 5 minutes (or even 30 minutes) you could do endless PVP missions with zero risk (do mission exit, call it in, get new mission, TP to new mission within 30 seconds).
So take your time enjoy the scenery, DPS isn't everything. If it is too much effort to go to another mission stay in the AE and never leave. -
Count me in on the "no" side. Given that this would create a two-tier game where those with more cash to spend have a great advantage over those that don't, all this suggestion would do in the end is cause NCsoft to lose customers.
It doesn't even have any hint of justification other than "I can't be bothered to play, hand me xp NAO!" -
Quote:I could say something... uncharitable... about the people that set up the current system, but I won't.With HTML, yes. But if a new BBCode is defined, the same safeguards which prevent from screwing things up would prevent thet able from doing the same. Edit: oh, and quoting your post was an interesting example of what I mean.
How it originally shown:

Quote:You have a slightly broken link there, it doesn't include the trailing ")".http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Target_custom_next_(Slash_Command) is the page dealing specifically with the target command.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Target_custom_next_(Slash_Command)
Fixed.
However I created a guide on these forums, which I transfered to paragonwiki dealing with this command. It can be found here:

I hope this helps. -

If the forums will not disable reputation entirely, then at least allow users to decide for themselves if they want their reputation to appear in their user control panel. As it stands, the fact that we can't tell which post has received reputation is worse than the previously completely forced system.
Or get rid of it entirely. -
Actually it would be better to use "/ignorespammer <name>". This ignores the RMT and sends a flag to the GMs. Additionally, I'd /petition them, but then again that is what the community reps have asked us on behalf of the GMs to do.

Quote:Well, that's good, because I have a dozen characters on Virtue already. The highest is a level 32 Storm/Energy Defender.I have 40 characters on Virtue, over the 2 accounts I pay for, so you stay on Triumph and I will stay right here with my friends and you can die and work on debt till your hearts content. And before you even start to post it NO I am NOT telling you that you are not allowed on Virtue so don't even bother pulling that one little statement out and turning it around so you can claim I am telling you what to do.
I don't have the problem you seem to have with others. I've seen plenty of off-beat builds in my time from other players: level 50 tanks without taunt, Empathy defenders with the medicine pool (still scratching my head over that one), andlevel 50s without any travel powers. I don't care what oddball builds people play with. If the player plays well even with a "bad build", then I don't care what their build is. If they play like an idiot, then I finish the mission and never team with them again.
So which accounts should I add a note on? -
Quote:I've cited several examples already. It is the rare bugs that drive coders nuts due to the fact that they are hard to repeat. It doesn't mean that a bug may not exist just because it can't be repeated.Except that C is constant between both cases, yet only one crashes. It's clear which is the culprit (assuming the absence of an interaction). I'm interested in how you think that the game client can be flawed yet the problem only occurs rarely and on dissimilar systems.
C being constant does not follow that it is stable or bug free.
Once a bug can be repeated, it makes its way to the Known Issues list. As far as an unofficial bug, do you have some inside knowledge at NCsoft? I've seen reports, and I've personally experienced it in the past, of this type of crash. So I don't care if you think what it status is, to me the long standing nature suggest a bug to me.Quote:Now here's a real non sequitur. Just because there are bugs in the game, it doesn't follow that all crashes are caused by bugs. In addition, "speedboost crashes the client" is not a known or unofficial bug.
Thank you, that is exactly what I meant.
