I made a short video to show the epic scale of the whole thing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzKglRmoLDc
The PvP free for all after was pretty fun too. -
I just wanted to say thanks for that Z. That was the most fun I've had in a PvP zone in some time. I wish it could always be that fun....
Heres a little vid I slapped together for those that didn't get to attend:

So many things bugged me about this post that I had to reply.
Quote:I have to disagree. I have a ice/elec blaster and back before fitness was inherent I skipped it on the blaster so I could fit in all the powers I wanted in sirens call. I focused on +end, +recovery and +movement speed. It had almost no recharge, wasn't a fotm build, had not one purple and was inferior to almost every IO build I went up against, yet I routinely came out on top. Map knowledge and evasion "skills" were much more important back then. Now your only resort is to phase/hiber due to travel suppression. Why I don't pvp:
1. It has never been about skill. It has always been about uber builds and ganging up on one or two people (referencing zone pvp post issue 9)
Quote:Why I don't pvp:
2. The absolute adolescent trash talking is annoying after 5 minutes
Quote:Why I don't pvp:
3. In reference to above: the homophobic and racists remarks are disgusting and seen as funny and acceptable - I don't hang around racist or homophobes irl why would I do it in my leisure time?
Quote:Why I don't pvp:
4. The rewards - Hmm let's see - a minuscule chance at a worthless recipe drop - no thanks. Sure there are badges, but I honestly could care less about the pvp badges.
Quote:Why I don't pvp:
5. Stand and fight already - zone pvp is run run run run phase run run run run - boring.
And anyway from what I see there is a active fight club type of PvPer on freedom. If you want the stand still type of fight (boring IMO) they are readily available in RV and SC.
Quote:Why I don't pvp:
I actually preferred pvp issue 7-9 with SOs when it actually took skill. And to those who whine that Issue 13 killed pvp - no the pvp community killed pvp. Back in the day pvp was about skill and people would actually gratz others when they were beaten - now it's all about slinging profanity and nothing more than a huge pissing contest.
As far as IO's go I've seen people with SO builds tear IO builds apart. Skill still mattered after IO's. After i13, not so much. The whole point of i13 was to balance the playing field and make it easy for the people that couldn't take the time out to learn how to pvp. By doing so it made the game less fun for current PvPers and drove them away.
Again, if the zone chatter bothers you so much you have the ability to turn it off. Thats how they do it in WoW, its just that here you have the option to turn it off. -
Mostly one reason. PvP plays like a different game with tons of sloppy restrictions tacked on. I miss the old pvp where zones flourished and the arena was busy. When you could hop into bloody bay, sirens call, RV... and maybe even a beach fight or two in warburg at almost any given time. When there wasn't one so called pvp server but several with strong pvp communities. Within months of i13 that was gone.
The fact that 3 of the 4 zones on freedom are pretty much ghost towns now and most servers pvp zones are completely dead tells me they screwed it up, big time. I loved pvp back then. Now its a inferior version of the original. -
Quote:Yeah, but all they would have to do is drop some other pack to make the same profit. Stuff that already exists, like say, a new set of armor *hint hint*. And as a bonus they would avoid some customer dissatisfaction which is also a good way to make more $. Keep subscribers happy and they will most likely spend more.Simple answer: $
They'd sell the pet separately and put everything else in a pack sans the badge.
Cheaper if you didn't want to stay subbed for 4 months, but that's your prerogative. If you were gonna stay subbed anyways, the "less expensive" part doesn't matter.
Either way I wouldn't be mad if it was released as a pay for item, but to be completely honest I would rather keep them as exclusive pieces. Not everyone has to have everything. Let the people that were able to stay subbed have something the others cant and not just be a badge. I personally see nothing wrong with that. -
Not really. Those costume parts are also available free in game to anyone that wants them. These are much more exclusive.

Quote:What does this mean exactly? Some type of event?Even if you can't tell us, we're happy to announce that we will be handing out rewards for the 2012 Salute to Statesman Loyalty Program beginning on April 18th, 2012, for all existing and thereafter newly created City of Heroes Freedom Characters!
EDIT: Never mind, I read that weird the first time. I've got it now. -
Quote:I don't know about you, but I've owned at least a hundred games in my life, and I've maybe read the manual for a half dozen of them. A lot of people are like that. Call me lazy call me daft, I just do it that way and it isn't wrong just because you say so. Is reading the manual before playing a game the best way to do it? Yes. Do people always do things the best way.... hell no. Just go play the game for a day you can see that. These improvements are for those people and as one of them I gladly welcome it.I jumped in headfirst as well, but I didn't and still don't blame anyone but myself when my own ignorance comes back to bite me. I just put on my big boy pants and look it up or ask for help.
Hell when I first started playing I was always the last one out of missions for months because I never bothered to read the manual and learn that I could exit by clicking the button in the nav bar.
And lets face it, the portals are still in god awful places even with the tunnel system in beta. The fact that they even made the tunnel system and the whole "LOOK HERE! THIS IS WHERE YOU GO!" pop up tell me that. Both would be unnecessary if they were in better locations. That is all I was saying here at first. Stop putting new zone entrances in crappy places. With the invention of the tunnel system it wont really matter anymore. I'd still rather have nice custom areas or to have all of the portals stationed in the, you know, the portal corp... but this'll do. -
Quote:Well, blame me then because I jumped in head first. I just wanted to play a game not learn stuff. In fact when I first bought CoH and got it home I was mad when I found out I had to pay a monthly sub. I was a complete MMO noob.No it isn't. If a person chooses to jump blindly into a game they have no one to blame but themselves if they don't understand things. The information is available, all they have to do is make an effort to learn it.
Anyway it doesn't matter. People have options now, and that is a good thing in my book. Giving new players (and current players like me *derp*) easier ways find zones is a great idea IMO. I'm glad they saw it the same way and didn't have the opinions of most in this thread. -
More tech stuff for doms and trollers is a great idea, but I do have one complaint. I hate powers that are stationary. Less "drop here" weapons and I'm all over this idea. And by less I mean none
-
I say make everything suppress except the chilling embrace gfx. That way you still have the snow/ice effect flowing off your body (element covered) and you don't look like crap to boot.

Quote:Now, yes. When I first started the game, no. Like I said, I was 3 months into the game before I knew FBZ existed.FBZ and Praetoria portals both have minimap markers, you know.
Either way I was a day early on posting this because it has already been addressed in the announcement today. The devs seem to have gotten a lot of feedback saying the same thing I am right now since it has already been put in place. Either that or they have common sense...
Quote:Easy Portal Travel: The new Interdimensional Tunnel System makes getting from one world to another quick and easy. Get to outlying areas like Praetoria and the Shadow Shard easily with a quick dimension jump through conveniently located portals. -
I didn't bother reading the above due to the obnoxious large text, but since the devs already addressed this problem with this tunnel system they seemed to have felt the same way as me about it. Problem solved, time to move on.
-
O really? I'll have to look into this. Any links you can throw at me?
(I guess this is the downside of not playing beta.)
Does FBZ get one of those now too? -
This is more for new players then it is vets. CoH was my first MMO and I was lost about a lot of things when I first played. Not to mention I didn't really care and just wanted to play. I learned as I went and that took time. Getting to level 20 is trivial now and expecting new players, especially younger ones to fully understand the whole contact system in a day or 2 is little much. But if they happen to pass by a portal on the way to the hollows they might be a little more inclined to check it out before they can fully grasp the game and its contact system.

Quote:Yeah I understand that its cheap to slap a portal up, but when you look at where they put them its like "wha..?" The entrance to Pretoria for instance. Its tucked back in a corner next to a guy puking. FBZ? Hidden in one of the 6 portal corp portals with no clear marker.I think they have moved to the "random" portal access instead of "giant building" access as a way to save time and money. It is far less invasive to plop a portal somewhere... instead of redesigning a whole section of an existing zone just to make a portal to a new zone.
Don't get me wrong, I think I agree with you... pretty much... but I was just sharing my perspective on the 'why' of it all.
I don't mind the abundance of portals so much as I do the strange places they choose to put them. -
I don't play beta so I really know very little about nightward. I wait for it to hit live to actually play. Its that much like croatoa huh?
-
When they add these new zone like the revamped DA and First Ward, why do that place the entrance in such obscure locations?
For example, it took me some time to find the entrance to first ward when it was released and I'm a vet player. Imagine someone new to the game. Dark Astoria isn't much better. A small portal next to a arena in PI? Just the fact that its next to a arena might keep people away... And how about fire base zulu? I didn't know that zone existed for about 3 months after I started playing the game.
They really need to put the access to future zones in more obvious locations. Places where there is regular traffic and new players would have a better chance seeing it. The Rikti War zone is a great example. Its located in busy zones (Atlas Park, Cap next to the BM) AND has multiple entrances on each side. Not only that, it has Vanguard banners, soldiers and in some instances armored vehicles parked at the door. All new zones should get similar treatment. Not a random portal tacked behind a dumpster somewhere. -
They really should add more co-op stuff with existing zones. Dark Astoria was a great idea. They took a great looking but empty hazard zone and made it playable for everyone, and did a pretty damn good job at that.
Why not further that idea and make Croatoa coop and ad some newer TF's and content. Keep it at the same level it is now, just revamp it for coop play. It would add some life to the zone and at the same time give villains more content and trials/tf's at mid level. And since its already existing content I'd imagine it wouldn't be as hard to do as a new zone. Its a win win for all. -
Quote:I never said it doesn't work, it just doesn't work as well in teams. Not as well as the beam rifles nuke in the same scenario. Trying to time RoA for baf prisoner spawns is luck at best. I have more success spamming explosive arrow and fistful than I do firing off RoA any day during a trial. In fact trying to rely on RoA would hinder my damage in most team settings.I get a lot out of RoA on iTrials. During the street sweeping/clearing phases of BAF, Lambda and Keyes, you can drop the circle on the next group while the rest of the league is dealing with the last Warwalkers in the spawn. During TPN, you can drop the circle in the middle of the room during the PO phase. During BAF's prisoner phase if you're at the South choke point you can drop the circle on the middle door before it even opens and it'll hit everything that comes out. For standard content and TF's my Blaster can Scrapperlock the opposite end of the map if he wants to and melt entire groups in record time by himself. It's not working against the group if you can handle yourself, since the goal of the group anyways is to kill all the bad guys.
With that being said, I don't like beam rifle. I have one sitting at 50 that I will most likely transfer to another server to make room. On the other hand I love archery. But I see beam rifles nuke as the better choice for teams over RoA in almost every situation from my experience. Just click on the baddie and fire away. No location AoE to worry about and the animation time is faster. By the time you get your RoA off most of the mob would have already been hit by Beam Rifles nuke and cleared up by the team.
