  1. Have you guys all checked to make sure your email is on file in your master account?

This copied from the announcement forum, see bold:

"Loyalty Program participants, Veterans and Hero-Con Attendees…today is the first opportunity for you to see your devotion to City of Heroes® pay off!

Today we begin a short Dual Pistols Closed Beta with players who we hope will push this power set to its limit and give us the kind of feedback we need to make it the best it can possibly be.

The Dual Pistols Closed Beta will be hosted on the Training Room. While the Training Room is normally available for players who wish to log in, it will be closed to anyone outside the Closed Beta until the start of Open Beta.

Closed Beta invitations are being sent out via email within the next couple of days, so please keep an eye on your Inbox to see if you have received one.

Remember, in order to get your Closed Beta invite, you must have your current email address on file with your NCSoft Master Account. Now would be a great time to go here and check.

We hope you enjoy testing Dual Pistols and look forward to your feedback in the Closed Beta Forums!"

  2. I think this might better be addressed by PM'ing a redname in charge instead of trying to gather a mob and handing out pitchforks.

Put in a support ticket perhaps and then update it if you have not heard back. I think you will have better luck getting some help that way.

Good luck, and may your pistols never run out of ammo.

So let the devs know I have been testing the [Shadowy Presence] skill for years, and it works great.

  6. things we will never see?

A PvP drop at the current drop rate under the current system.

    and the end of RMT.
  7. The bottom line to me with the AE custom overnerf is that it quite simply breaks the devs stated risk vs. reward scenario.

A custom mob is most times much much more powerful then a dev designed mob, yet yields only a fraction of the reward. Devs cherrypick the powers their mobs get, and the mobs sometimes even offer xp modifiers like 1.2x normal for defeat etc, yet when you make a standard custom mob and cherrypick the powers, you are left with much reduced rewards, and usually the mob is still more powerful then a standard dev made mob...

AE is all stick and no carrot nowdays.
  8. Is this a question?

    If so then yes.

    Otherwise, no.

    Hope that clears it up

Of course, I end up backing it up with manual scans and spyware/malware scans with things like Malwarebytes. Haven't caught anything... well, ever, that I can recall, but I watch what I'm doing and what's going on. (And usually spend at least an hour or more a day at work fixing peoples systems that *don't.* )
I also have Comcast, so thats why I inquired about the McAfee since I think I can DL it free off the Comcast site (not sure).

I have Malwarebytes, spybot, and adaware which I run periodically but on my new system (in addition to Nortons) I am going to limit it to malwarebytes and adaware, plus whatever AV suite is least resource crushing.

Free is good, so McAfee may be my best bet.

Bill- did you just need to go to the main Comcast homepage to get the DL? Sounds like this is my best option, but until the new system gets here and is up and running I cant really check it out, and i would prefer not to get online without my AV suite installed first...

    Thanks for the input folks.
  12. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good anti-virus suite?

I usually run adaware, spybot, and I currently run Nortons (ugh..) but would like to switch to something less crappy.

Anyone like McAfee? Or another provider? Just looking fora some feedback on what other people use and how they like the performance.

    Thanks
  13. Thanks for the advice and links.

I think I will end up going with something with a nice motherboard because this is the backbone of a new system, 1000W Power supply, good cooling/case, and 6 gigs RAM, and upgrade from there along the way as parts become cheaper. For now I am going to use an Nvidia card with PhysX so I can check out how CoH looks on it, but eventually will probably upgrade to a dual card setup, as more games come on market that require Xfire or direct x11.

That should keep me around my price range, with room to grow later.

Hope to be back in the City of heroes within a couple to few weeks. the forced time off is rough on my finances in game, but the buying of a new rig is rough on my RL finances... oh the humanity...

    cheers.
  14. Hey tech wiz helpful types,

First off, sorry for asking the question I'm sure gets asked 20 times a month, but as we all know the answer changes day to day as what was new last month is last months news this month!

I have a old computer that decided to drop dead the other night, and is pretty much too tired to fix- its time for it to go out to pasture.

I have a budget of around $1500 thanks to uncle Sam giving me my moneys back from taxes. I would prefer to buy something prebuilt, but have enough savvy to build myself if needed. I would like to go with someone other than Dell if possible if I buy pre-built, but if the price is right I can settle my differences with Dell and come back to them, they do have some really nice looking Alien systems for decent price nowdays. I would also like to have the system up and running within 2-3 weeks at most(shipping times included).

I have looked around on Digital Storm and Dell sites just to see whats offered, but id like to get some ideas/must haves/dont buys from everyone around here so i can make a more informed choice when the time comes.

So free form input/advice is welcome, and any linkies to nice systems are appreciated.

I will not be upgrading again for some time, so i look to get between 3-5 years of high to decent performance(dwindling down to low performance as the years go on no doubt...) out of the machine. This means I would like to get parts that are high end now, but will last the tests of time fairly well.

So if anyones had a recent buy thats worked out well for them, or advice on what parts are good bargains currently for the performance i would love to hear it.

    Thanks.

    Slim
  15. I think what shes asking is does slotting end mods in TB make the end drain to self worse... and the answer would be no. its already a 100% drain and a 20 sec shutoff for recovery, so even if the drain was boosted by the end mod slotting, 100% already takes all you have, so it being 120% or something wouldnt have any in game effect - its not 100 end...its 100% of your end- which means it drains you completely no matter what.

The recovery time shutdown is not affected by end mod slotting, so no negative effects to self can be seen from slotting TB with end mods.

This is also why I plan to make a toon just to get to lvl 33 just for tickets.
I weep at the thought of using merits to buy a set like thunderstrike... commons are so easy to get through tickets.

The rest of the post works for me. Level locking and rolling tickets is a great way to get mid level commons, but spending merits on them seems very wasteful. You can achieve nearly 1 mil/merit rate if you buy the right recipes, so throwing them away on a midlevel common is a very poor return for your merit output.

    This.

Dont gimp yourself when you have the tools to have your cake and eat it too... you dont need to see the effects, and you can still take the aura which is essential to your overall damage and speed of kills.

  20. If you want a ranged defense hover blaster, fire/em is your horse.

boost range is a must have. Do not ever skip firebreath (especially if you have boost range).

I personally always skip the nuke on a ranged blaster. The last thing you ever want is to end crash detoggle and drop into the middle of some pissed off bosses with only ranged defense...

Plus you do not need it. It will only lower your DPS. Fireball/firebreath and blaze with boost range take care of most anything very quickly. If you team with trollers rain of fire can add a ton of damage as long as you have some AoE immobs on the spawn. If its a solo build RoF is optional , but i like it because it is mitigation in its own right by causing mobs to run in fear... while it burns them to death.

I do not feel any need for aid self once my ranged is capped and I have hover, because all it takes is one green insp to prevent any steaky hits from killing me, and I have nearly 50% smash/lethal resists as well to reduce incoming damage so its near impossible to 2 shot me barring being hit by AVs.

    Heres what I use:

  21. Sorry. No.

The last thing we need is more junk sets clogging up our roll tables.

What I would like to see is some decent targetted AoE set aside from posi blast that has some +def in it instead of the recharge (or in addition to a 5% recharge like obliteration from PBAoE- which might be the best designed IO set made so far)

So yes to more sets that people actually use, and no to more sets that hardly anyone would use.

We used to herd all of monkey island in PI to get teams the badge (when it was 10k monkeys), and crashed the server repeatedly on several occasions with FS on literallly hundreds of monkeys at once, followed by nukes.

But not much in the game is more fun then watching our invincible pre-I5 invuln/em tank die to monkey farts because of so much lag following a herd/nuking.

The guy could go afk in the middle of 20 giant monsters and live, but a couple hundred whiffs of monkeybutt can take anyone out.

This is what they are looking to stop IMO. With pvp recipes going for a flat 2 billion on market, and 3-4 bill off market and being imminently bot farmable ( and really only bot farmable because to get one normally is regoddamndiculous amount of tedious no fun "playtime")

I was seeing RMTers in atlas last night on Protector simply standing around spamming local in Wents/AE. The prices for their wares are dropping steadily too from what i see, with a billion not worth half of what it used to be a short time ago.

What the devs really need to do is fix the pvp system/drop rates so the only people getting them arent the exploiters.

That said, theres plenty of good names left but I certainly dont resort to obscure variations that are never used in actual conversation. That is like an inside joke nobody else is in on... its only funny to you.
