I got my 57 month badge in july, so I'll the 60 month badge well before the tier 2 loyalty guys are ready. So, depends on when beta starts.

I actually played for the first time in quite a while. Had fun. This is the first time I've really been wheeled in by a double-xp weekend - I usually avoid them.
Got a new mastermind to 18, and a couple other alts (with awesome costumes) in the neighbourhood of level 10. All in all a successful weekend.
I avoided playing my favoured characters because I'm not really in a rush to retire them at 50. No need to halve the time they have left. -
Quote:You are playing a game called City of Villains. A mastermind in charge of a paramilitary organisation, an Army of Evil so to speak. Sounds good, right?I'm considering building a Merc MM and am wondering why they seam to be the bottom feeders of the MM world? I see in the comments of posts often that Mercs suck, but I've not found any actual post detailing why. They seam like a decent ranged bunch of grunts, and are supposed to have some good AoE. What am I missing?
You roll up your evil overlord, you call your Faceless Army to you and... they are just generic army guys in bland grey fatigues.
Where are the snazzy black uniforms? The visored helmets? The faceless hordes?
THAT is why Mercs are disliked.
(It's my single biggest disapointment in CoV) -
Looks good so far. Will need some getting used to, of course, but the modernized look is neat.
One little (read: huge) issue though: Could we please turn off those image signature things? Totally subjective, I know, but I hate that sooooooo much. -
Energy?
No. Seriously. Don't do that. Traps are very up close and in your face, so any blast set that support that will be good. Rad is nice. I think the rains from fire or ice would be very nice with poison trap. Etc.
My all-time favourite is rad/traps though. And it's a very good thematic fit. -
Put me down for Dominator Illusions as well.

I don't really think the niche excuse works anymore. We've used it for years. Heck, I've used it for years. But really... I don't think people really care that much about genre. If a game is good and gets lots of hype, they will play it whether it's fantasy, sci-fi, about superheroes or something else entirely.
That doesn't address the question though. Au contraire. If niche gaming isn't the cause, why havn't more people played the, IMHO, best MMO on the market? -

Chainsaws for Brutes only, a little too evil for tankers or scrappers and a little too noisy for stalkers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah? Well, now I want a chainsaw stalker. -
[ QUOTE ]
Your turn - what kinda powersets do you want that you know aren't likely?
[/ QUOTE ]
I can't answer this anymore. The first time I saw Crab spiders in the CoV beta, my very first thought was "damn, I wish I could have a powerset that used those spider legs. I know it won't happen, but dang it'd be sweet."
So. Yeah. I can no longer guess what we're unlikely to ever have. -

What about EU based players with US accounts, given that Steam is region locked? Will it be tweaked to support us?
[/ QUOTE ]
Hopefully! But I'm not holding my breath. -

Because I don't see this answered anywhere, I gotta wonder again: Is it possible for a European player to buy the US version of the game through steam? Or will we be stuck with the EU version?
[/ QUOTE ]
Dunno about Steam selling US version, but I do know it's possible
for European players to play on US servers. I've played with many
people from Europe, South America, and Australia.
I would check with PlayNC.com first for that version. Just make
sure you're getting the correct version, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well yes.But I was wondering about Steam specifically.
As for the not available bit, that seems to be fixed over here. Just no way to know what version they are offering... though I guess EU. But that's pretty useless for me, alas. -

Please use this thread to discuss the recent announcement.

Does this mean that we can actually have an alternative to the Updater to get the new patch ? I normally don't like Steam but I have to admit their Patching technology would be very helpful for COH
[/ QUOTE ]
Steam will not replace the City of Heroes Updater for "regular" City of Heroes customers.
The current build being delivered by Steam has to be patched to our current build on our Live servers.
[/ QUOTE ]
I like steam. Alas, CoH isn't currently available in "my region." And even if it was... would I be stuck with the EU version? That wouldn't help me very much. Any way to tell them apart? -

Just FYI that this isn't very likely. NCsoft Europe is a separate entity from NCsoft North America and the business dividing lines don't lend themselves to such a merge.
[/ QUOTE ]
As I recall - since you have to be subscribed to the game, either the US or Euro version, and NC Europe and NC USA are separate companies, it becomes an issue of privacy laws.
[/ QUOTE ]
Easily fixed. Use Ouroboros to go back in time and stop the split before it happens. -

[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, I wouldn't expect it. The so-called "official" release of CoH in Europe has just always bugged me, and I stubbornly cling on to my favourite US servers in spite of everything.
Have lost most of my friends to the split (and later to WoW since, apparently, they didn't like how low-pop the EU servers were) and it just makes me a little sad.
Besides, the localization of online games goes against the entire point of playing online games (for me). That is, getting together with people from all over the world to beat up Hellions.CoH isn't the sole culprit here, of course. It's a general trend in online gaming that's really irking me.
I'm just happy that there's no forced localization. Certain other games do everything they can to force my hand... and that's pretty much a deal breaker for me. So, despite everything, CoH at least deserves credit for that. -
Personally, I'm hoping to see a merging of the EU and US servers.
But that's been a pet peeve of mine for years. -
[ QUOTE ]
So now that CoH and CoV are the same game, would it be possible to get some balance for content?
The villians have so many fewer zones, so many fewer Task forces and less of everything except class.
What have the villains got for new zones or zone revamps that are NOT shared zones?
As far as I know... errr.. anyone? anyone?
[/ QUOTE ]
Many zones or many zone updates are not marks of quality in themselves. Zone updates would suggest that the zone used to suck, and many zones just means more zoning. It's a point in CoV's favour that it doesn't have a stupid amount of zones and doesn't need its zones updated. -
[ QUOTE ]
can i have my money back that i paid for cov then?? cause this is kinda a slap in the face for those of us that bought cov.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, as soon as you give us back all the time you've spent on CoV before this goes live, as well as any enjoyment you may have had from it.
We're waitin'... -

Now make it so that people who signed up for Red or Blue Forums can post on either!
[/ QUOTE ]
That's most likely just an issue of cookies on your local machine. If you can't actually log in to one of the skins, it's a bug, and you should probably PM Ex Libris or Lighthouse to get it fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
It happens with all the computers I log into. And my boyfriend has the same problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's just weird. There is no Red or Blue forum. There is just the forum. The color is just a skin. You can use whichever one you want. I don't know why either wouldn't work for you. It's certainly not a universal problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not quite. When I'm logged into the City of Villains red-side forum, and follow a link that has cityofheroes in the url, I'm blue side and no longer logged in.
If you post a link without the boards.cityofheroes.com part, the system will default to your colour, but nobody seems to do/know that. -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone know why there isn't a Praetorian version of Blue Steel?
[/ QUOTE ]
An evil Blue Steel would destroy the multiverse!
Praetorians exist so we can defeat them (with varying degrees of difficulty). An evil Blue Steel, on the other hand, would be impossible to defeat (in fact, the mission briefing to fight him will just explain how he defeated you and your entire team, and then log you out and delete your character). -
Since when have Dominators had a Manipulation secondary?
-
Thank you for those words, WW.
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys around for a long time, and I hope these new opportunities will turn out for the best.
*sets up camp*
I'm here for the long haul! -

Yeah but your friend still gets that free month which the converted accounts don't. It's still all good
[/ QUOTE ]
He does! But the CoV box is more than $15 so it'll be a somewhat expensive free month!
Mostly I'm worried because he's a notorious tightwad. I just got him talked back into the game, I hope this doesn't push him away. -
[ QUOTE ]
Seriously. This griping about "We need compensation" is silly.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. And I don't particular care. I have both, I've played both, I've enjoyed both. That's more than enough.
I do feel a little bad about the friend I talked into buying CoV just a few days ago. Worst timing ever.
