Dom: Well crap. Has it been 3 days since my last auto-complete?

Granted, many EB's are soloable by a Dom if you carry the right inspirations and know what you're doing. Or have a tricked out build. Or are superbly lucky. Or all of the above. I used to regard them as a challenge. But after so long of slogging through arc after arc of them, I'm just sick of it.

Paragon City will be a nice home for my Doms I think. There are EB's there too, I know. But there are also 9 billion crazed scrappers I get to use as cannon fod-, um, I can team with and make the whole thing just so much simpler.
So you're just not a really a good Dom player? I'm asking because I cannot think of one EB that I ever had to auto complete a mission for with my fire/fire dom. And he's using mostly common IOs. All the EBs I have fought are +1 to me and I even smacked down Back Alley Brawler(sorry BABs...but you had it comin'). I play solo most of the time.

How is doing it with a Dom much worse than doing it with a blaster?

I'm not saying it's a cakewalk for every EB...but that sounds kinda whiny. Use inspirations. It's not like you really need them for most of the rest of the mission.

Still enough of a population so far to make it worth maintaining, but probably not for much longer if the downward trend of 4%-5% loss per quarter continues.

I'm not stating this to cry doom. Just pointing out the facts for the discussion.
I don't think that doom is my biggest problem with a constant downward spiral in population. Looking at the longterm, the drop in population will probably mean that we get less expansive updates and expansions as time goes on. I don't want GR to be the last major expansion/update of its kind simply because we no longer have the numbers to support it.

Just because the game can technically go on for a lot longer, does not mean that I want it just sit there not getting the attention and upgrades it needs to stay competitive and fresh.

In that sense, I think a lot more is riding on GR than people may think. If the people above the heads of the devs don't think that future content and expansions of the caliber that we are used to are worthwhile, then that won't be good for anybody.

Of course, maybe I have no idea how the internal structure of NCSoft works and there are lots of top execs who love COX to death. Not enough to invest in a decent advertising campaign, of course, but love anyway. Kind of like an indifferent, stalking-from-afar-but would-really-like-to-get-closer sort of love.

Actually I find the most unpleasant player experience I can have is to play on a lag ridden server. Screw the people, I want my toons to animate when they use their powers and not to have to notice a truck rubberbanding back and forth over the distance of a city block.

Edit: Crap! I just realized that I channeled Golden Girl there for a bit and threw up in my mouth a little...

To be honest I wasn't thinking of anything on that grand a scale, more along the lines of will there be new things added or changed to go along with the new morality feature and things like that. Little changes instead of an entire zone revamp.

    Sorry for the confusion.
No problem. And ironically, what you said are my thoughts on zone revamps. I don't know why the devs think that they need to recreate Faultline every time they pay attention to a zone, but I think its a bad precedent to have.

Mercy doesn't need a graphical revamp as much as it needs more alternate starting contacts and a wider variety of enemies in starting missions.

I'll admit that Atlas and Galaxy are showing their age, but more than graphics, they need a cleanup of the starting contacts and missions given from them.

As long as we are dreaming, the replacements could be just as flashy, but shorter.
For some things I would agree, but not for every power being standardized like that.

    Quote:
For the "good power, long animation" side, things like Full Auto, sure. It's long but effective. Same with Rain of Arrows. Then you have Eagle's Claw. A long, ugly animation with all sorts of wasted "hang time" for an attack that is actually pretty bad, overall. Shadow Maul's another one that people don't like, although I don't mind it. Jump Kick? Is that still the horrible flip animation? Shout? Electron Haze? Neutron Bomb (which suffers more because of the travel time of the bomb)?
I agree with the examples here. I would say that Electron Haze would be much more tolerable if it had a more consistent knockback effect. If the chance to knockback were 65% - 70% then I'd be good with the animation length. I know the devs have some kind of formula for calculating damage, recharge and animation, and it is also somewhat dependent on the other powers in the set. Electron Haze does seem a bit off, but it does have OKish damage.

    Quote:
I just find that a lot of powers are no-picks for me because their animations are terrible and long. Your mileage may vary. Not everything needs to be Blaze, but nothing should be Shout. I think capping animations at 1.5 seconds would make for a faster, funner game, although I realize some might disagree.
I think different builds should feel differently. I wouldn't want stone melee to feel like katana in its flow. If you standardized animation times too much, then you'd also run the risk of making sets feel more generic, flashier replacements or not.
  7. I actually expected way more folks to say they were moving to, or staying blue. Although this probably does not represent the player population as a whole, I more expected redside to get emptied out.

Most of my toons are staying put although I am moving a Fortunata to blueside and a dp/dev blaster to red...then maybe back to blue(he's a tormented type).

I am creating a few new toons in Praetoria who will split between each side though.

Why is this necessary? I can understand having a long animation on a power which is considerably less effective being annoying. But if a long animation is on a power that does massive damage/debuff/buff etc. then the power is balanced around the animation(or it should be). It doesn't mean that the power needs less animation time. Some animations look cool enough that I wouldn't want them to speed up.

Although I will admit that some take too long while not being visually impressive. Hello Shadow Maul. I'd like to see you changed to an actual Maul made of shadows.

    Quote:
Powers that take longer to animate than they do to recharge are ridiculous (hello Barb Swipe). Recharge not starting until the animation is done is even worse.
I can agree on the longer to animate than recharge bit. But if the recharge starts at the end of the power and the devs consider that balanced than I can't really complain. Well I could...but I'm not sure they would take me seriously.

Sorry I missed this reply earlier.

My search-fu is weak, but I do recall this being mentioned. It was either in an interview or posted on the boards.

People were asking about zone revamps and the response was about the huge resources it takes to do a revamp. So the idea is that if they were to redo the starting zones, they would have to do something along the order of Faultline...which is essentially to create a new zone.

I seem to remember it being mentioned again somewhere as well.

If you're an evil anarchist, who thinks all authority is bad, then just imagine how you'd react to a real dictatorship.
Or, while you might be a jackbooted thug swaggering around and enforcing the dictatorship, the Syndicate, for example, are still an actual criminal organization - so just because you might spend the morning arresting the family of someone who spoke out against Tyrant, that doesn't mean you couldn't spend your afternoon fighting genuine criminals.
This sounds very odd coming from you. How would you survive in this environment?

You know that would totally screw over the people who dislike difficult tasks like reading and spurn common sense right? That sort of thing isn't done in games much anymore. Joe public can't cope.

Seriously though, I get the feeling that they want to make it abundantly clear which road you are going because going back would take a lot of time. That doesn't mean that the consequences of an action have to be simple or boil down to an obvious outcome. Just that you know where your alignment is going to shift as a result.

I know what you are getting at though. The first time I played Dragon Age and made my decision after dueling Loghain...I had no idea that maybe later on I would have liked to reconsider it. It was actually nice to not realize the longterm consequences of my actions.

Actually, I met a guy with a name like that on Guardian yesterday. I talked to him and he was a new player who was trying out the game to get a feel for it.

Ironically, his first question was about the game's population and whether it was worth staying. I explained that Freedom and Virtue are the crowded servers and that things were likely to get more active after GR launched.

I think its interesting that new players are very concerned about our population(or at least its appearance).

I also met another new player, but couldn't seem to get him to talk...maybe he wasn't a good english speaker or something.

Firstly, I don't think that a revamp in the order of magnitude of Praetoria would be necessary(especially not in the case of red side). I think that revamping the initial contacts and tutorial portions of the game would be more beneficial. Especially adding more contacts to Mercy to provide different experiences for starting players aside from Burke and Kalinda.

I 1 star them and make a note "Possible RMTer." Then I /gignore them just to be safe.
Or maybe they had to take an important phone call and the game didn't autolog them?

In any case. Something seems odd to me.

If what Posi said is true and new players are forced to start in Praetoria, what is the point of that if they are primarily pushing GR to old players?

Given the relative small marketing efforts at enticing new players beyond a few promos, would it really matter that much if you forced new players to start in Praetoria?

I'm still a bit confused about what GR is supposed to accomplish for the game as a whole. That's not to say I don't like what is coming in GR...but if revamping the new user experience is the focal point of the expansion along with side switching, why leave the other 2 possible starting points untouched?

Each starting point is, IMHO, just as critical as the other. Hero, Villain or Neutral. It shouldn't suck to start a new character period.

One of the reasons I like anime is that you always see maiming and blood when appropriate. Even in stuff that's meant for 'kids'. What is wrong with American animators?

That aside, I really enjoyed this flick. DC seems to be on a roll with its animated movies of late.
