  1. I will try to get on the forums on Friday (it starts at noon where I am), but there is little to no chance I'll get in-game at the times that have been mentioned.

If all else fails, I'll just give more money away - it doesn't concern me, as I think this booster is definitely worth US$9.99 (if that's what is going to be charged...)
  2. This, too, is beating the proverbial dead horse, but it's not the spam, or the super-fast levelling, that annoys me, it's the ignorant questions that are asked repeatedly on multiple channels (b'cast, local, etc) that annoys me.

And, if I dare mention that they could look at the Forums or Paragonwiki.com, it seems I am being an elitist, unhelpful smart a$$ jerk. Honestly, I'm not trying to be, but I do believe that knowledge is power and if you know the sources you can find most things yourself. I accept that most of those who ask the question in b'cast that was asked five minutes ago ('Where are low level Freaks'? I'd say in AP, but I might get punished by a GM for that) will not research, but still, I live in hope.
  3. I'd like to add my vote of thanks. Keep up the amazing work!

No drama that I've been involved with. I hope my post didn't give that impression.

Any drama that may have happened has no relationship to my post. It's all about my play preferences, and how that doesn't align to those in either the 'Australia' channel or this one. People in either channel do not seem to be willing to come to Freedom, and I rarely have the opportunity to go to Justice. My decision is not based on any person - it's just a case of 'lurking' in a channel that I cannot be active in due to how I play. And I think that's more than a little stupid on my part
  5. Hi Min, Plant and others,

I would just post this in the in-game channel, but it's often the case that not all are on at the same time.

As most of you know, I have quit the Australia channel due to the fact that I am a largely Freedom resident and very few (if any) other channel people are on Freedom. This makes teaming up and doing TF/SF rather difficult.

Therefore, I will do the same with this channel. I thank Plant for inviting me, but as Metacore nicely summed up, if it's not meeting my wants/needs, I should leave. This could be applied here, too.

All the best to each and every person in the channel!

    Tech

PS - Feel free to look me up if anyone ventures to the dreaded Freedom server!
  6. Agree with all but one of the posts (the one saying neither is worth it). While the WP isn't essential, of the two I'd definitely go with it (I've used it a lot, in combination with other costume pieces). I certainly won't be getting the PP when it's released.

    1. Probably not, but it depends on content (it's difficult to convince me when we get so many improvements and contents for free)
    2. Content AND improvements to the game (e.g. GR has faction-switching and branching dialogue for mission design, which admittedly it appears everyone will get - the side-switching is enough of addition to convince me that I had to buy it). This time they were sneaky and unlocked DS for MMs as an enticement - I couldn't resist a new primary for MMs!
    3. See above
  8. Quick question - as I'm half a world away, and getting to this event is a little bit of a struggle, will the costume code be released as part of a booster (or achievable in some other way) later?

That being said. That's only a temp page sorta thing...As soon as i figure out what to actually put on there I'll change it ^.^ and it will likely have both mentioned along with Going Rogue.

For some of you that have been wondering why it still looks so sparse... well... because I'm working on the biggest single article and likely most important likely to ever be on the site which is...

that thing is huge... I'm only to the 1930s and I'm only about halfway done.

Thank you, Agg - I did not know this. I thought the 'other side unlock' was a one time deal. I'm glad I'm wrong in this instance

I applaud you for taking the initative on this. As has been said, however, you will need to convince people that contributions are essential for the project to grow, and that their efforts to this end are worthwhile.

Otherwise, you'll just end up burning yourself out.

How to do this? I may be the wrong person to give suggestions on this, as I'm not a big 'lore' person (I play the game to have fun, and often don't read the 'story' as I do a lot of reading in the real world).

    However, there are many resources online about volunteering and the motivations for it. One of these is entitled "Why People Volunteer" by Canadian Heritage (http://www.nald.ca/fulltext/heritage...e/WhyPplE1.htm) and the following are listed as incentives to get people to volunteer;

    • Achievement
    • Recognition and feedback
    • Personal growth
    • Giving something back
    • Bringing about social change
    • Family ties
    • Friendship, support, bonding and a feeling of belonging
As this is your project (you're effectively the project lead) some or all of these will need to be present to convince people to give up their time to your project. And, interestingly, the opposite is also true - without a sense of achievement or acknowledging people's points of view, people may be discouraged to volunteer time to a cause or project.

In any case, it's not preferable to take on a project this size on your own. If you do, you'll most likely end up burnt out and/or bitter.

Not all. CoV can still be bought separately at the NC Store.

Why anyone in their right mind would choose to do this (particuarly with GR Collector's Edition coming out) is beyond me. But, as with most things in a democratic, open market, people can choose to buy an item even if it's not the best value.

At the end of the day, this is your project. However, one tiny little point that I feel I need to make is that GR is an expansion - it won't work without the core game. CoV is stand-alone.

And I acknowledge that few people seem to choose to differentiate it. I acknowledged as much by saying more than once that I may be seeming petty by making the distinction (and asking for the addition).

    The Lore Wiki

One tiny little thing (but it's important enough for me to post about it), only City of Heroes is mentioned on the section entitled 'main page', but City of Villain content is mentioned on the site.

I know it's fashionable to address both sides of the game as 'City of Heroes' (a lot of the time even the devs do it here and elsewhere), and I know it may seem petty on my part considering the co-op content and the fact that most packs people buy gives them both games now, but I do think CoV is a unique experience that, while it has a lot of shared content and mechanics with its 'parent', is still a very different animal in many areas of content (and the archetypes work very differently, in my opinion).

In terms of lore, there are marked differences between the Rogue Isles and Paragon City (and I'm roping Shadow Shard into this, as villains can't access it except through instanced missions).

Maybe I'm just being precious because I spend virtually all my time playing villains and most of that in the Rogue Isles (not co-op zones). I'm not anti co-op or anything (I enjoy mixed teams), but I love the vilain content and the archetypes. And maybe this is just because CoV as a brand feels like it's disappearing to me, but I think it's still worthy of a mention alongside its big brother/sister.

I shall put my soapbox away now. Thank you for your time

There's that word again, 'assumption' (albeit in another form). I assume nothing, and certainly don't know enough about you, your motives, belief systems, motivations and psychological state to have read that from what you've posted. I simply read what you and others have posted as what has been posted.

Throughout this thread, you've bordered on insulting people. I think with this post you've achieved it. I find it offensive that you're telling me (and others) that if we are to post in a particular way, you forbid it. Why, because the content of the post may put into question the content of your post?

I'll say it again (and feel free to insult me by calling me stupid or something similar) - you cannot know any more than the rest of us that Reichsman comes from a divergent reality. Therefore, apart from what's been fed to us by Cryptic/NCSoft/etc, any assumptions anyone makes are just that - assumptions. Sure, this can lead to theories, but again that just means they're theories. Until proven erroneous, the theory stands. Trouble is, almost everyone has a theory (that's the problem with free will and such).

In your OP you asked this question 'What are your thoughts?' - people gave their thoughts and you gave yours. People challenged your theories and logic, and you challenged theirs, but it feels that (directly and indirectly) you have taken difference of opinion personally and posted comments that could be construed as insulting.

I suggest this thread be locked/deleted sooner rather than later as I question how constructive it really is.

Whilst you may not have intended it, it seems you have spoken for me. For the record, I don't go into game lore with any assumption of chronology or relativity.

Even if it's convenient for your argument that Reichsman is the result of a divergent reality, it doesn't mean it's fact (as much as 'fact' can be used to describe fictional lore in a MMO). I'm not saying he didn't come from a divergent reality, but I'm still to see evidence that he did.

And, if he didn't, your key assumption would be proven unsubstantiated, and this whole thread has been entertaining, but ultimately pointless.

Hi, welcome to my friend, "in another dimension". What Durakken is talking about is divergent realities, where reality "trees off" based on decisions, also called "many worlds" and other various terms. What Durakken is NOT talking about is other dimensions. Other dimensions can be COMPLETELY different than our own. Other dimensions can be only a little similar to our own. Other dimensions can be mostly similar to our own. Other dimensions can be so similar as to not immediately be able to tell the difference.

Divergent realities/many worlds/etc. can also be all of the above, but the differences are hinged on certain events/decisions/etc. Other dimensions are just... different, and not necessarily because of a certain thing or things.
The question that I ask, with the above in mind, is there any official documentation or reference to say that Praetoria or any other non-Primal dimension in City lore is 'divergent'? If so, a link would be great! I'm asking with genuine interest, as I can't remember any mention of this.

I agree with you, by the way. The OP's whole argument and posts rest on this principle...

As already said, the author doesn't have to follow your 'rules'. Unless you're going to claim knowledge of multiple dimensions to back up your statements, it's just BS that you're making up. You don't get to say, "Alternate dimensions work like this." Well, you can say it, but then we can laugh.
    Agreed.

If the devs decided that the expansion after GR is 'Fast Food Paradise' where an alternate dimension is ruled by fast food companies and Emporer Happy Lovin (real name Ron#$d McD#$@ld) it doesn't mean that this particular clown rose to power due to chronological diversion from our reality with our ever-loving corporate clown, even if he worked for the same corporation until 1980 and then entered politics to begin his journey to power- it just means that in 1980 he decided to enter politics and begin his journey to power.

The assumption that his motives and belief systems (indeed, his whole morality) are the same as the walking brand in our dimension (or the dimension City Of inhabits) cannot be held as truth anymore than this silly analogy.

I'm one of those annoyed that the prompt is coming back. I understand the arguments put forward by the 'pro-prompt' crowd, but I will be incredibly p'ed off when it goes live.

I'll aim to join again this Friday, but later in the night as I team with my gaming buddy til he logs (usually about 9:30). I look forward to teaming with some Justice Villains then

    Need help

From what I know (and others have said in this thread) the powers and the MM a/t itself have not changed much over the years. There have been QoL improvements, but that's about it.

The guides are just that - guides (some have builds in them, but iirc most are pre-IO enhancements). Mids is a brilliant tool to help you plan your character, and as GB has said, if the guides that are here don't answer your question, post it in the MM forums and I'm sure it'll get answered.
  24. My DS has Dark Miasma as its secondary, and I love it. I don't know on what basis the person who told you to go PD is working, but my first MM is nec/dark and I have a nin/pd MM - I find they're both incredibly versatile, but I play them very differently. In fact, I play each of my MMs differently.

Getting back to the OP - I agree Psy - there is nothind inferior about DM. It's a brilliant secondary armed with a strong heal, tons of debuffs, an AoE rez and a fantastic pet (oh, fluffy, you are worth your weight in gold). I am finding it a great match to DS with the resistance buff, heals (irregular, but better than a kick in the gonads) and debuffs.

Grab Mids and go to town - DS/DM gives you a very diverse array of choices for builds, depending on how you want to play your character.

I'm absolutely boggled at how busy the server is. This is bad for us, but really good for the game, methinks. People are obviously EXTREMELY excited about Issue 17.

I can tell already that when Going Rogue hits, I'm going to need lots and lots of aspirin.
This is great news for the game (and certainly last night - off-peak - there was more teaming in Mercy than I've seen in a long time).

Thanks for all your hard work, and thanks to anyone else that's part of keeping the Titan Network alive and running
