Altering Neutrino Bolt and X-ray Beam is possible, so that they will recharge slower than the Defender version but also deal more damage and use more endurance (Dam/End ratio staying the same)

Hopefully they will not pull another Psychic Blast disaster and make Cosmic Burst do, say, 70ish damage on a Blaster like they did with Will Domination.
Thanks Ethric and Rush. From what I DID find I kind of figured that it would be based on the Defender primary, but I thought that NO WAY a blaster would do the emission part. Doesn't seem...blastery, so to speak.

I have a concept hero that I'm dying to make, even made up the costume and saved it already. I'll go ahead and check out the other secondaries and see how they fit with my concept.

Thanks guys, that about answers my questions!
  2. I'm definitely going to be making a radiation blaster after I16 hits, but I'm wondering if the Radiation primary is going to be like the Defender radiation primary? Maybe with some changes to power levels, activation times, etc?

And will blasters also be getting the radiation emission secondary?

I've been searching for days, probably in the wrong places, but I hven't been able to get much information.

    Thanks in advance!

I'm mostly disappointed because I was hoping that vet rewards would eventually stop at some point. 5 years seemed the best place. As it is, there's no way I can ever catch up to get the new rewards. I've been around since release, but I had no way of knowing at the time that if I stayed subscribed I'd be able to get stuff.

[u]Makes it worse when new stuff comes out and there are rewards I actually WANT, but I can't get, and will NEVER be able to catch up to.[u]

This, emphasis mine. This will sound bitter, but can VR stop already? For many people, there are only so many years they can spend in a game, also for different reasons other than growing tired of it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If someone only plays the game for 3 years, why should they give a hoot about what someone that's played the game 5 years gets?

Either stay and get it, or leave and don't worry about it...

Anyways, what I was going to say, was never be dissuaded by the naysayers. Make a Kheldian. Play them until you have the forms. Rock out some teams, figure out where you want to be, and go there. Your Kheldian will respond in a direct manner: Your happiness.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for the "Gratz" and "Pre-Gratz" to you as well. I've always had an affinity for the 'Shades, and I do have a tri-form that I've got up to about 36 or so (alt-ititus, you know) but they are INDEED masters of all. I feel really, really useful on teams when I can blast, or tank and on my tri-forms (I've had a few, but he's the highest) I hardly EVER use the human form. Back when I started my human-form, had to be 2.5 years ago, it seemed like the general consenus was that they, well sucked. That was kind of my reason for making mine, just to try it out, and I liked him so much he became my 4th 50.

The reason I have so many characters is that I LOVE the different combinations of powers, and Khelds give me 4 combo's each (tri, human/dwarf, human/nova, human). The greatest difference between them is Tri- and Human-form so that's what I tried.

But yeah, khelds are AWESOME, and I can't wait to level up my Tri-form as well.

Darn Job, if I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd jump on him right now and try to get on a tf or 2. Fortunately I have a long weekend coming up, so this is the perfect opportunity to try to get him into his 40's or further...
  8. I originally created this character in response to all of the threads
that I saw about how difficult it was to play an all-human Warshade
(or peacebringer). Don't do it, start off with the forms - respec out
of them, folks that had tried it but given up and either deleted the
character or recpecced into the forms.

My thoughts were that a hero plays the hand he or she is dealt.
Superman doesn't cry because he doesn't read minds, the Flash doesn't
cry because he can't fly, so on and so forth. I started this
character so long ago, I have 21 tailor sessions but it didn't take
me this long to hit 50 because it was difficult, more so because I'm
    an alt-aholic. I have 3 other 50's, a elec/elec blaster, a assault
    rifle/dev blaster, and a em/wp tanker. I have 2 accounts, 4 years and 3 years, Freedom,
Infinity, and Virtue are full, and I think I have at least 3-5 characters on each of the other servers.

Leveling up my all human WS was a blast. I've always heard that
peacebringers were sort of "scrappery" and warshades were
"controllery", but I played mine as sort of a combination
tanker/blaster. Solo, I was all blaster, using TP foe to whittle the
crowds down, and deal with Q's and Voids. On teams I'd be right up
there with the tank because that's where the buffs and bodies were. I
concentrated on my defense first, then my attacks, and when IO's came
out, I immediately respecced and started loading up on the ones that
improved my resistances and/or defenses, shields and the like. Didn't really
plan it out using Mids or anything, just looked at what powers I was using,
what IO's did what, and slotted accordingly.

I felt really strong, powerful even, with this character, up through
my 40's. No problems at all, no more so than any other character I've
played. I played him in spurts, 2-3 weeks at a time, until my
alt-ititus kicked in and I'd play other characters for a while, then
come back to him. I teamed with a lot of folks during the times that
I would play him, a lot of them over and over again, no one ever
seemed to have a problem teaming with him, or finding me and inviting
me to team with them, so I guess I was carrying my own weight.

In my 40's I respecced him, to re-slot, upgrade IO's etc. And for a
while he didn't seem as powerful, or something was off for a bit.
Took me a while to get my equilibrium back with him. My fondest
memory of him was a time I was on a PuG, in PI lvl 40-ish, started off
with 8 and it slowly dwindled down to about 5 of us, no scrapper or
tanker, just me and a mix of trollers/defenders. I ended up "tanking"
for the team (read: taking the alpha) and that lasted about 4-5
missions. MAN that felt good! It was tough getting the last 2 levels
with everyone (seemingly) playing MA arcs, but I made the last push on
2 Task Forces - An ITF and a Statesman TF. I actually leveled up as
we were taking out the vines. First time doing that TF and I levled
my all human Warshade to 50!

I'm trying a all human peacebringer now, got him to 33 or so. He's
just as fun, and is most definitely more "scrappery". I hardly blast,
mostly up there with the tankers and scrappers dukkin it out. Having
a ball with him too, looking forward to him hitting 50 as well. Hard
to find teams now, with the MA and all, and most teams aren't
necessarily LOOKING for warshades or peacebringers anyway. We're sort
of like the red-headed step-children of CoH, if there's room, we can
get a spot...MOST of the time.

Just wanted to put my .02 in, opinion from the other side...someone
who enjoys playing all human Khelds. Just in case anyone wanted to
try, but was scared off by the majority's opinions.

It's been a while since I've read the Kheld section, glad to see a lot more folks are trying out human-form Khelds. A year or 2 ago there wern't that many threads about it, and today I saw at least 3-4.

    GO FOR IT!!!

I needed to have 200mb free on the C drive, and I've only got about 80.

[/ QUOTE ]Whoa, you seriously need to delete some stuff and/or get a bigger hard drive

    [/ QUOTE ]

True dat I've got a 160gb drive but I've gotten into the habit of making a "C:" and a "D:" after 1 too many times of having to reinstall Windows and losing everything. I made a 31gb partition for the OS and keep everything else (games, music, photos, etc) on the D: drive. Keeps me from losing all my data in the event of a crash.

In this case I just need to see if any docs (me) or photos (wife), or anything else is important (both of us) is on the C: drive. Copy over to D: where all of my drivers, programs to reinstall, etc are, Format C: and reinstall. Usually takes less than an hour.

I *AM* looking at getting one of those 1TB external drives pretty soon, then I could backup data from BOTH computers to it.

I had never heard of this software but today I was randomly thinking about what voice commands I'd want in game if they ever put in the mechanic for voice commands. Just an odd coincidence I was thinking about it this morning and this thread shows up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well $30 is not that much for me, I don't drink or party, work 8 hours a day so it's not that much of a stretch for me. I could see maybe using it for emotes and inspirations at first, then maybe trying travel powers, things like that. From what I understand you tell it what word presses what keystroke. For me I have health, cab's and breakfrees on F1, F2, F3 so I would say "HEALTH" and the software would "press" F1 and so on.

The software has very good reviews, one of the reviewers said that they tried it, worked fine, then someone else in the office with a british accent tried it and it worked fine.

Eh, I paid $10 for the Cyborg pack, if I'd gotten all of the packs that came out so far, I'd have spent, what, $40? And this is something that has templates for several of the games I play (HL2, NWN2, CoX, Call of Duty, etc).

But at this point it's moot, I needed to have 200mb free on the C drive, and I've only got about 80. I was going to do some house cleaning anyway, I want to try Windows 7 and it needs 16gb.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Haven't heard of it before. Is that all it is? Voice controls? From the trial part, sounds like it has a subscription fee involved. Not worth it, IMO, no matter how low the sub fee is...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah it's $30 after the 7 day trial ends. I'm going to try it and see how I like it. I can see it being useful for stuff like inspirations, opening/closing windows, etc. Not strictly necessary, but it seems like a fun toy to play with.

The interview was on the NWN2 podcast and that game has layers upon layers of menus and tool bars so I can imagine that it would be a lot more useful in a game like that, but what the hey I'll give it a shot. It might be NECESSARY, most things in life aren't, but it might be fun!

  12. Heard an interesting review by the developer on the Neverwinter Nights podcast, checked out the website and they have CoH listed as one of the games they support for voice commands. Only $29.99 with a 7 day free trial to try.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried this, seems like it would be pretty useful to be able to do certain commands via voice.

  15. I usually work on the Mission Architect stuff from my desktop computer, but there are times when I'd like to do it on my laptop, does anyone know a quick and easy way to sync the files between the 2 pc's?

CoX is installed on the laptop, although I rarely play on it. My son plays on it sometimes though. But I would like to be able to work on MA stuff from either PC. I could probably do it manually, but I'd have to determine which files were older, which ones had changed, etc. Looking for an easier way.

The laptop connects to the 'Net though the desktop, the router is attached to it, and we do have some folders accessible from both, my documents, my pictures, etc.

    TIA

First of all the music in Atlas still sends shivers up my spine. It's majestic, proud and definitely sounds like what a Hero should hear after, well doing heroic things!

I remember my first night, I had been playing Anarchy Online, which was my first MMO and one of the most team-unfriendly games I'd played. Came across a free 10-day trial for CoH and on that Saturday night after the wife and kids went to bed I fired it up.

Spent at least an hour in the costume creator getting the costume just right (still do that to this day, if I can actually), came out on the Guardian Server with my brand new Fire/Axe tanker. According to the instructions, Tankers had the most survivability.

I wandered around Atlas for a bit, and was invited to a team! After helping me to the mish door, the team then took the time to explain to me what to do: Stand here, hit that mob, use your axe, etc. They were VERY kind and VERY friendly AND they complemented me on my costume . I was amazed at the colors, and sounds, and powers, and everything. I probably played until 3am that day and I made sure that I purchased the game so that when my free trial ended, I'd still be able to play without interruption.

Being an avid comic book reader, I've been reading them for about 42 years, and have about 1700 in my collection, this game is right up my alley.

I'm torn with the announcement of Champions Online. I will definitely check it out, but it would take an awful lot to tear me away from my Beloved CoX. I have 2 accounts presently so 1 solution might be to have 1 here and 1 there. Another possibility is that C.O. might deplete the playerbase of CoX to the point where teaming opportunities dwindle away, and THEN I might consider jumping ship.

But yeah, it's been an exciting 2 years, 11 months for me...
  19. [ QUOTE ]
You make me want to stay. No higher compliment could be paid to a creative team than that. I'll say it again: Well done.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. Coming up on 3 years in June, and I've only got 1 50 because there's so much to do in the game, so many different combinations, even costume choices that it never gets old. BUT the new stuff that they throw out is just amazing and keeps the game fresh.

I don't think I'll ever *need* more slots, I have 2 accounts, and although all the slots on both accounts are full on Virtue (my home server), most of them are sort of "placeholders", or "failed experiments" so to speak. I try out different characters and some of them "stick" and some of them don't.

It's nice to have the option though, I'll instantly qualify for 2 slots on my primary account, the second account won't have a year in until this June and then I'll get a slot on that one, and it's definitely nice to have that option since that's the one that my son and I share, and he likes to make characters too.

Love this game, thanks guys for keeping my interest all this time, and even liking it to the point where I have 2 accounts!
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Maybe I'll work on haveing her use her holds more... or maybe not. She's done so well up until now, why should I mess with happiness?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bingo, I had to learn this the hard way. My boy's been playing since he was about 7 or so and he's 10 now. It's a weekend type situation and he only plays on Saturdays/Sundays when he's with me. So he's been playing as long as I have, just not as often.

I recently setup a second computer and we were really excited for us to finally get to play together. The second week we played, he asked me, "Dad, do you like my playstyle?" and I said sure why do you ask? He told me that I was kind of "Bossing him around". I tried to tell him that it was strategy, things that teams normally do: "You go here, you go there, you get the boss, I'll take the minions, etc" But then I realized that it was part teammate talking, and part "dad". So I backed off and let the kid do his thing, and wonder of wonders we did just fine! And he had a much better time playing, without dad's help.

I did thank him the next day, on the trip back to his mother's house, for speaking up a letting me know what I was doing, rather than just backing off and maybe stop playing with me rather than to say anything.

Sounds like Lil Sister's doing fine (a testament to you, for sure) so I think you've got the right idea letting her do her thing. More than likely she'll be asking you (or finding out on her own) what all those other buttons do

And as others have said, this thread DEFINITELY defines what this game is about: FUN and sometimes it takes seeing it though the eyes of a child, the eyes of innocence to bring us back to that.

    Thanks for sharing!
  21. I love this game, new stuff all the time!
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    It's good daddy/son bonding time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree. My son is ten now, he's been playing about 2.5 years now. I've had 2 accounts for about 6 months now, but only recently got a 2nd computer up and running so for the last month or so we've been playing together.

All this time, we talked about our characters and on the weekends (divorce situation, he stays with his mother during the week) it would usually be, after the family stuff was done, and his younger brother went to bed, me on the pc playing CoX and him on the playstation or Xbox. He'd usually play on Sunday mornings for a few hours after breakfast, and while I was showering and getting his gear together for the trip back to his mother's. Whenever we'd talk on the phone during the week, and when I first pick him up on Saturday mornings eventually the talk would turn to CoX: What characters had I played that week, any events going on, etc.

But finally we got to play together and it was wonderful, him on his guy, me on mine in a mish together! BUT...I found myself being a dad instead of a teammate. "Go here" "Go there" "Keep up" "DON'T ATTACK NOW!" "Get in there and fight", etc.

After our third session I got to thinking, "Man that can't be much fun for him, probably more like playing with his teacher or something..." and I also thought that I would NEVER think of doing that to a teammate in a PuG, I might THINK those things, but I wouldn't say that to them, I decided to give my son the same respect.

The next time we played, last saturday night, I kept my mouth shut and let the boy play however he wanted to, and he did just fine. I was trying to make him play like *I* played my characters, but found out that he played just as well, or better, on his own.

Before bed that night I mentioned it to him, "Did you notice that I didn't have too much to say about how you were playing?" and he said yeah, and he appreciated it, and it was more fun for him that way. I told him he did just fine and I think that we both had a better time.

I think that just about ANY activity that you share with your kids, something that both of you like, is good for your relationship, and much more enjoyable than doing it alone. And also gives you more insight into the person, and helps you know them better. My son just turned 10, and I remember being 10, 40 years ago, but I remember that back then kids wern't treated with too much respect, seen and not heard kind of thing? *I* actually learned something from playing CoX with my son, I learned to respect him a little more as a person, he has a mind of his own and just like anyone else (read: adults) likes to do things his own way, and doesn't need daddy holding his hand all the time. If he needs help, he'll ask for it, if he doesn't ask...I'm keeping MY mouth shut!

Updated as of this post. Please let me know if I need to add a discrition or change the discription for any of the channels.

What types of channels do you all think people look for the most? I'm trying to figure out what order I should put the different sections in.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personal opinion? I know I look for channels that relate to my "home" server, which is Virtue. Even if I do play on another server I still join the Virtue globals to see if there's a TF or badge mission going on. I'd say maybe break it down by topic (Giant Monster, Badges, TF's, etc) then server.
