I play hero-side and get a lot of enjoyment out of the level progression and zones. Even new alts have kept me entertained following a short break.
I decided last night, following my brief sabbatical, to create a villain. Masterminds have always intrigued me and seem fun to play - played happily in the costume creator and before long my masterpiece was born!
That is where the problems started. I avoided the training section as I detest it with a passion villain-side and went straight to Kalinda. As soon as it loaded up Mercy I felt I couldn't face playing there and logged back onto Heroes.
I don't know why this is though, I love CoH and CoV is essentially the same game with a few graphical differences. Is it the fact that it always looks gloomy and depressing in the Rogue Isles compared to the relative bright cleanliness of Paragon. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that puts me off CoV but I desperately would love to play the Villain AT's but just can't bring myself to do it!!! I did (some time back) get a Stalker to 50 through much patience and short stints but every other Villain I tried did not get past lvl 14.
Is it just me being somewhat odd or have other people felt this way (about Heroes or Villains) and is it because I started the game on CoH and that is familiar to me compared to the relative strangeness of CoV. To use 'the shoe analogy' - opting for the comfy old trainers rather than the shiny new shoes!

I soooo understand you, but think you're very sick and need help!
You see I'm exectly the same but the opposite! I can't stand playing heroes, I rush back to the redside, despite the fact I really love my ill/rad and fire/rad trollers and the concept of being the hero, the good guy.
I've tried the same reasoning "It's the same game" but I really think there's a major difference even if I can't put my finger on it. It's also the reason it saddens me so when we keep getting more and more co-op content, because even if I still like ITF there's something fundamentally wrong about my corruptors kicking roman behinds with tankers, blasters and defenders (and the occational scappers). It's just unnatural!
Take pleasure in the fact that you've got hooked on the "loads-of-content" side of the föörce! Villains are stuck with a pathetic amount of zones, missions and content in general - and NO LUSCA!!! -
I'll give a typical example then:
I've been playing with 8 other people doing a fire/rad troller run from level 1-50. Loot kept dropping madly all the way, wether we played on inv. or heroic. Even doing not-lvl-50-ITFs etc.
Yesterday we did positron: I got ONE recipe and two enhancements during the whole 8-run. Pretty much the same doing ITFs with my 50s.
Every time I go on my lowbies in full teams however I'm having a hard time selling the loot without slowing down the teams.
I also experience the same thing with my solo lowbies: Playing on diff 3-5 I keep filling my inventory of enh, recipes and salvage, to the point I actually get annoyed about the constant drops I have to delete. Log on and play relentless solo with my purpled up brute (or any other lvl 50) for 4 hours and I usually hardly notice I actually get anything. The very MINUTE I hit 50 I usually noticeably notice (was that overkill?) how the drop rate drops, and I'm hardly alone.
I'm sure it IS relaterd - partly - to mobs, but I regularly go on exemp'd SFs and the loot drop is a LOT lower.
So my questions remains: Is it intentionally? Anyone know why? and Does it help if you stop xp at lvl 49? -
Well, at that time I should be able to join.
Take a pick of my playable 50s:
Sonic/thermal purpled up corruptor
Dark/Paindom corruptor
Ninja/poison MM
Energy/willpower brute (purp'd, no taunt)
Rad/kin corruptor
Ice/kin corruptor
Elec/Storm corruptor
Bots/Forcefield MM
SS/Stone brute (no taunt)
(I'd personally prefer the sonic/thermal healer or a kin btw). I've got'em on 2 accounts, so can switch EoEs fast and get whatever needed when people don't show up! -
Big gratz to you all for finally getting it done in style the EU way. Sunday, bloody funday!

I've had several villains hanging out "in" and near base/portals and it seems a lot of times when I log back several days later the badge bar hasn't moved at all. So far it has only happened at P.O. and Grandville. When hanging out in Cap it seems to tick away nicely.
I should point out I DO get the dayjob icon before I log out. I'm now behind on dayjobs with singstar, because I've wasted 11 days. Sort of makes me... ...ah, come to think of it, who cares?
But is it a confirmed bug, or do we pretend it doesn't exist? -
I'm getting increasingly annoyed about how the amount of drops (loot drop rate) goes way down once you hit level 50.
Is it really supposed to? Why? Is there a point in "punishing" level 50s? If anything, shouldn't it go up, since you don't get any xp? (and is it just me getting this annoyed about it?)
I've been talking to some people about a 'cunning plan', to actually stop xp at level 49. The question is: Will the loot keep tickin' in that way? Has anyone tried it?
Yes I know, it's not an exact science... -

i was just trying to be helpfull
a ban is unnecessary.
i wont be posting here again

Now don't be like that!
Just pointing out that the rednames can sometimes be very rigid about name'n'shame. I've had a few warnings myself for that during the epic out-of-body flamewars. (Yes, I think I might hold the record for the longest non-perma forum ban actually, and OMG it was definitely worth it)
They *may* be bad guys and it's good you find them and report them, and we like more ppl on the forum, it's just that you're not allowed to shout out their names here since they might actually be ok.
Asfar as I'm concerned, feel free to bring out the tar and feathers and deal with the situation properly! -

How's 12th of April at 1pm sound?
[/ QUOTE ]
You know... that's my birthday...
The one thing that might keep me away from this sort of thing, so it really gave me a long, good laugh. I needed that! -
Also,, even if they're "bad" Naming and shaming isn't allowed on the forum, so if Big Red A. feels evil you might get a temp. ban from the forum, or more likely a warning.
If you think it's fishy and feel heroic(?) petition them. -
Another blatant rip to gather all the binds in one place:
(very) Quick logoff:
/bind <key> "buy_coh$$dialog_yes"
(Original tip by LostNinja and loads more) -
Autojumping:
Blatantly ripped from Kinenetical:
/bind <key>, "++up"
or
/macro <name>, "++up"
To stop jumping, hit your "regular" jump key. -
I start off by adding another question:
For a while we had those funky, unreadable two-coloured text messages. Are they still in the game, hidden from our sight? Is it possible to use them the same whay we can get transparent chat windows etc? -
One thing I liked before the forum cleanup was all the great bind/marco guides. Parts of them are back, including the great MM bind guide (ok, I don't use it, but it's still great), but I still miss a lot of the old stuff. I still have most of'em on the old smurfite website but I can't be bothered to change to power supply and get it up and running again!
Toggle CombatJump/Superjump
Toggle Hover/fly
Autojump
Send "Hug me" then AM or some other boost
The AFK-message-while-typing message thingy
Sending alt name and level to channel when sending messages to channel thingy
The great binds for kheldians form switching/change powertray etc
The heal binds (press numpad 1 to heal team member 1 etc)
The one-click teleport bind
Other clever text chat functions like the "Hello target, prepare to be hugged" - "Boosybossy name is debuff anchor" etc
I suggest we put request for bind guides in this thread and put actual binds in another, new thread, except for (perhaps) links to the (probably still) great american forum bind guides and other links. -
lol, anyone actually use the useless ingame email?
But just imagine how useful it actually could be! Sigh! -
If we get a date, I'm sure I can bring all the smurfs back for a one-night appearance too of course. That's another 8 top veterans that tried the first 2 hamiraids villain side.
-
Logged on to antoher MMO I have a "founder" membership in (wink wink) and was amazed how many emotes they now had, not to mention the ability to "play" midi music etc.
Would be fun to see some more emotes, but I'd still rather see the dudes and dudettes working on new maps and real content. For the game's survival more good emotes -> more fun youtube clips -> more players/returnee's maybe, but...
Just don't waste time on animated hair! ,) -

And its not as if a download is that easy an option. It takes many hours to download a file as big as CoX even if you are really panting for it. I downloaded LOTR and WOW at seperate times and it took about 2 days for each. Considering they were on my hard drive for less than a day for WOW and an hour for LOTR I wouldn't be happy taking that long to download anything again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, those games are HUGE, unlike CoX. I mean, CoX makes a tiny impression on your hard drive. It's hard to even see it's nudged your storage space at all. Mo pre-rendered movies, no voice-overs, nothing fancy anywhere in the game. You could almost download it with my old USB Robotic modem!
I still agree with a box'ed EU version. Most people still buy their games in stores. Steam might work, but I think it'd cost more. Good way of updating the game tho'!
And for the "five year old game, noone's gonna buy it". It seems games like EVE still attract new players because they really update the game (gfx engine etc) and most of all, wherever you go, you see ad's for it. Heck even Travian ads are everywhere, but when did you last see a non-moorpg.com ad for CoX? You have to spend money to make money.
And yet, by now I've pretty much given up to argue for the game. It looks extremely dated even if the GUI/system (with lk, team etc) is the best I've seen in a MMO so far (amazing how bad most games are, isn't it?). NC publishes a few good games every now and then, but never seem to have a viable long-term plan - ever. They're simple useless bussinessmen! I'm still sort of chocked how badly they handled both auto-assault and Tabula Rasa.
Still love this game though even if I'm not sure why, and really hope for some smashing good high level content for the 5 year anniversary. Heck, Anarchy's still going, erhm.. strong, so We should have many fun years of grinding ITF ahead of us! -
I think we've settled for sunday runs. Being the optimistic(?) person I am, I've still checked every monday, tuesday and friday, but...
...So, I'm looking forward to antoher nice run of... something... on sunday! -
Guess there's still no news about it?
-
Actually they CAN see you. I get a lot of invites from people that SEE me moving about in the zone. They can't find me on search, but that doesn't stop them.
-
Ok, I shouldn't help this thread survive but...
...I just had the perfect example of why I sometimes don't bother to answer tells... This has happened to me so often, and usually I just laught and feel sorry for the dude:
This is a conversation I had with a poor boy. Incidently so did everyone else that was about to join my team/joined my team and got into a relentless mission, being quite busy.
[ QUOTE ]
[Tell] A poor boy: hey ,wanna join team ?
[Tell] -->A poor boy: nope
[/ QUOTE ]
2 seconds later he sends invite to me, same to the other people he sent tells to. Noone had responded, or had told him "no" when he did so.
Note how he didn't specify what the team was going to do or what level. It turns out this guy was in fact 2-3 levels higher than everyone in my team that got the tell.
People declined the invite, and finally was able to join my team as planned. We jumped into a mission thanks to the temp team teleporter and started "defeating"... um, well... stuff..
A minute later:
[ QUOTE ]
[Tell] A poor boy: u on a team ?
[Tell] -->A poor boy: yup
[Tell] A poor boy: can i join ?
[Tell] -->A poor boy: nope
[Tell] A poor boy: why ?
[/ QUOTE ]
This exact conversation he had with everyone on the team. EVERYONE!!! By that time we where busy fighting Silver Mantis AV-version and a bunch of ambushes. Being logged on to a MM I still took the time to send some more tells, each one resulting in another more and more pointless question about why he, the 3 level higher alt couldn't get invited to a full team with no more room for malf/lk.
This USUALLY happens when I answer a "U got space?" private tell. Same with the semi-blind invites. At times I've had to join the team 2-3 times, spell it out with capital letters asking the leader to stop inviting me because he doesn't get it.
So yeah, consider it rude if you want, but life's so much easier if you don't reply to certain tells. If that's more than you can take, go play with your doll house!
Note: 'A poor boy' is a fictional name to protect the poor boy. -
Should also point out that most brutes don't have taunt and there's a huge shortage of rad secondaries (AM) villain side.
-
I'm always up for trying this again. The two attempts villain side that was serious turned out bad for mainly one reason:
People just showed up. No nukes, No EoE, hadn't read guides etc. It was a total disaster from beginning to very swift end.
The 3rd time we tried it we wheren't nearly "full" but managed to get quite far before we decided we'd never be able to go all the way. Was good for a laugh and also showed it's definitely possible when people do their job.
Some other tips: Brutes are not tankers. They can't take the same damage. It's hard to find good MMs (might make some people angry, but I'll take it) and there's not that many villains but most of us knows most of us and we're really, really good.
I suggest spreading it out over a few days, spending one "event" to gather EoE's (and people can of course do that whenever they want if they get some people together for it). That also gives the leader a chance to get to know the "crowd" and plenty of time to do the "real thing" once we do it without a lot of pick-up's running scared when their pointless insps doesn't work and they start dying!
Also, on the US forums there's a few good villain-side guides, basically adaptations of the hero side ones.
...and Yes, I have a lvl 50 PD corr! It's not nearly as good as my purp'd up thermal, but...
Basically, most villains will have anything you want. Ask for it and we'll give it to you!
