I'm also interested in maces and have a related question for you all I can't really figure out. So I'll put it in here, I hope RAWSIDE does not mind!
Basicly, when reading the US forums Stone Melee is praised as a great and powerful set while War Mace is a lot less popular and never really mentioned at all, but looking at the two they seem to be almost identical in the powers they get, damage wise and so.
What makes them so different from one another? -
I see others have this problem, it's good to know it is being worked on.
It really sucks, I have a level 38 character I really enjoy but it is perma-stuck in the bug so I can't play it at all until it is fixed, I hope it will be soon! -
Thanks for the replies everybody.
You certanly make TA sound interesting Carnifax! But I think poison is more suited to what I am looking for as an all-around character based on what the others say, so poison it is for now, but I'll certanly keep TA and your guide in mind for the future. -
Hi everybody.
I've decided to make a Necromancy mastermind but I'm having trouble deciding on a secondary.
Its not a character made specifically for anything really, I enjoy most aspects of the game even if I still have no explored PvP much
So for all all-arounder would you recommend poison or trick arrow?
Poison seems very praised for being very good against big, nasty things and PvP but seems to fall short in dealing with big groups if I understand correctly?
And Trick Arrow.. well, to be honest its hard to find anything about Trick Arrow which leads me to believe its not a popular set, but looking over the powers it actually seems very good?
What are your opinions? -
I had similar experiences when I played a stalker for a bit, it was not as much I felt people shunned me but rather that I felt like the teams were doing me a favour by letting me tag along. (or that I'm just filler to get bigger spawns)
And thats kinda what I felt like I was doing tagging along.
AS is awesome and all, but even so I always just felt like a fragile, weak brute in bigger teams.
Which is too bad because I really like the concept of the stalker! -
I couldnt keep myself from it and actually tried out a merc/dark despite all the warnings, I guess sometimes you just got to learn it the hard way.
I love how they look, I love how they fight and I love the lead flying all over the place.
But I do not love seeing their damage compared to that of an equally levelled mastermind with thugs that I played with a bunch of times.. it was like, wait, what? How can those street thugs do that? What are my professional soldiers armed with, pea shooters?
So yea, here's hoping that they take a look at the set at one point, because I think it is the coolest. -
Okay, thanks for the replies everybody, they have taken away my worries and I'll happily continue my sword swinging ways.
As for the concept, yes, I guess it does not really fit the usual image you have of a brute, but I would like to think brutes can come in all shape and sizesI went with a tall and thin lady knight in medival armor and I'd like to think she looks very cool with the DB animations, here she is putting a sword (and apparently, hand) trough the head of a snake http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=owwrf4.jpg

Very interesting and just what I was looking for, thanks _Neo_
Too bad about mercs though as those appeal to me the most, but ah well. -

Masterminds also do very well in zones whilst dominators are better mostly for duels rather than zonal or arena pvp.

Another newbie poking it's head in hereI just have to ask what power sets should you get or avoid if you want to have a Mastermind that can do decent in PvP?
-
Hello there.
I'm a pretty inexperienced player, so this is more of a newbie question then anything else :-)
Anyway, I fell in love with the concept of the dual blades brute and have brought one to level 10, but from reading both here and on the US forums Im getting more and more worried that Im making a gimped character. Another thing that leads me to think this is that there is almost nothing discussed about it here, I get the impression it is an overlooked set people dont use.
Concept is nice and all, but I care about being an effective character too, so Id like to hear what you more experienced brutes think of the set? -

I think the numbers speak for themselves. But just in case it's unclear, I just showed a way to almost triple damage output. But you can use them in Thugs as well, so it's not like Mercenaries will be severely outperformed as usual. Maybe nobody should pick up the set, so they can datamine that, and start to look at it. ;-)

Hehe, I see.
Well, no sense in needlessly gimping myself I guess so Ill give it up. It just really bugs me that street thugs fight better then soldiers
Thanks for the help, it probably saved me some disappointment later on. -
I see, thanks for the replies everybody.
I guess I'll scrap the idea so I don't end up regretting my choice later on, I've decided to try out the robots instead
It's a pity though, I find having my own soldiers to command very cool but ah well, robots work too!

Thugs seem to be good, but every man and his dog has thugs. So far, I've not found Mercs to be a problem. Perhaps not the best, but adequate, and they don't stomp around with the annoying mechanical noise of bots.

Yes, I thought about thugs, maybe its just me being strange but I just cant get comfortable with the concept, Id much rather have trained soldiers then gangbangers. -
Hello all.
I used to play the game a bit a long time ago and recently returned (just today!) and decided to start anew with a new character.
Ive been looking into a mercenary mastermind as I really like the concept, but browsing trough posts both here and on the US boards I get the feeling its an overlooked set people dont really use.
While I like the concept, at the same time I dont really want a gimped character so to speak, so Ill just plainly ask if they really are gimped compared to the other minion sets, and if so, how much? -
Dark Miasma it is then, thanks for your help everybody!
-
I see, thanks for you reply.
I see you mention Poison there, reading over the boards and such you never really see it mentioned much. Is it considered 'weaker' then the others, or a solid set to choose?
Necro/Poison could make a cool crazy scientist ala Frankenstein type of character, hehe. -
Hello everybody.
I'm relatively new to the game, and have decided to try a mastermind and see how it goes. But there is one point I am feeling a bit torn over, which is what secondary would be best for me.
I have decided on Necromancy as my primary, but cannot decide between Dark Misma or Force Fields as my secondary...
Dark Misma certanly seems to go along nice with necromancy concept wise, but on the other hand an evil wizard could just as well be casting force fields I suppose
My aim for the character is pretty much an all-arounder, really. I am interested in both PvE and PvP.
I guess this all boils down to me being afraid I'll be to 'squishy' and easily killed in PvP if I choose dark misma.
So it would be great to hear what you more experienced master minds think of this. -
Thanks for the replies everybody, some very good information!
I have decided to go with thermal and we'll see how it works out, but it sounds like the thing I am looking for.
And as a side note, I think its an interesting twist that the healer and primary ranged damage dealar is bundled togeter, makes things a bit more versatile - from previous games I'm used to if you make a healer, heal is really all you are going to do. So I'm pretty excited about this.
See you all in-game sometime! -
Hello everybody.
I'm pretty new to the game and was wondering what the best secondary for supportive play would be?
At first I thought termal was the obvious choice, but reading some posts here have made me unsure of that.
The three I am looking at now is /termal /kinetics and /rad.. the later two seems nice, but the how well do they play the role of healer?
Some wisdom from you more experienced players would be greatly appriciated -
Hello everybody!
I'm a new player and choose a stone/stone brute as my first character, and there is something I wonder about the ability Earth's Embrace.
It says it increases your max hitpoints, which seems simply enough - but what I wonder is are you given these extra points when you use the ability, kinda like a heal? Or do you have to rest or be healed afterwards to make use of these extra hitpoints?
