Please help me select a good Villain AT for PVP?

Hi,

I'm relatively new to CoV - and have never played CoH much at all.

I have painstakingly built up a EM/EA Stalker to L42, mostly so I could PVP in the battleground.

I know that I am relatively inexperienced in PVP and that Villain ATs are, however much you put a brave face on it, just not comparable to the best Hero ATs, but I am continually getting my [censored] handed to me.

OK, I know that I must refine my tactics, obviously, and that I need to devise a better management system for my Inspireations and that, of course, 'I should play whatever AT I am most comfortable with' but...

...Which Villain AT (and, without going into too much details, which Build) have you had most success with - not just in terms of survivability but also kills in the battlegrounds?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

hi hubergrove,
well if u want somthing with a nice burst dmg then a nrg/fire brute is good if u just want somthing that nothing can really kill and has good dmg output make a nrg/wp both seem to work very well in pvp as i have went toe to toe with them

That varies. You want team pvp or solo pvp? A good built stalker is by far the best AT for solo pvp, while he wont do big things at teams. EA is imo a bad choice. WP/Regen/ and ninjitsu (with a push) are the way to go for pvp. In team pvp, corrs, doms, (Maybe brutes for taunt, but brutes solo good too). Now sets, that varies to buff/blast/heal.

Thank you both for your advice - primarily, I just cruise around BGs solo, looking to fight solo Heroes. I guess I will eventually try and team up but, for now, I it's all by myself.

And you are suggesting a brute is the best option for this?

Well, brutes in pvp can be both bad and good. Em/fire is nasty trick for damage, and you dont really need the fury. EM/WP IO'd is a monster for survival. Pretty much every brute can survive ok in pvp, but thing is most lack damage. And fury in pvp is hard to be built. That's why EM/Fire is imo the best combo. In team pvp, zones mainly, a brute can be good. Solo can be ok, but remember they aint tankers, so if a whole team attack you, things will get nasty. As said, a stalker is the best solo AT, a good built one.

If your going to solo a lot then the nrg/ea stalker you have is perfectly fine and theres not much point re rolling into another stalker imo unless you want range (spines or claws) or a secondary with a heal(regen or willpower).

If your looking to get into team pvp then corruptors are your answer with any combination from fire/ice/sonic primary and kin/rad/cold/thermal secondary a good choice for teams.

Masterminds also do very well in zones whilst dominators are better mostly for duels rather than zonal or arena pvp.

Another newbie poking it's head in here I just have to ask what power sets should you get or avoid if you want to have a Mastermind that can do decent in PvP?

The thing is with a mastermind is that once you get the hang of bodyguard your the most difficult villain AT to take down in a zone regardless of sets especially since most pvp toons only have single target attacks. So any primary and secondary can do well but imo the better primaries are those with range so thugs and bots are the better choices for this. I would include mercs but there damage is mostly resisted. Zombies on the other hand are great for duels due to the self heal and slow portection. Ninjas do ok but are outclassed by the others although the oni pet is nice and is basically a pet domi.

As for secondaries poison is the best for duels although traps is nice with poison trap, as for the others dark is great for both pve and zones not so much in arena though due to the heal. TA is a great lockdown and general annoyance set while forcefield is more of a team based set with no real benefit to solo play unless you like buffing your pets a lot.

Also last bit of advice for anyone who wants to try a mastermind in pvp watch out for tp foe and nukes.

Very interesting and just what I was looking for, thanks _Neo_

Too bad about mercs though as those appeal to me the most, but ah well.

Hate tp-foe. I'm actually leveling a kin just for that reason, see you in the zones soon.
