A question on what secondary to pick.

Hello everybody.

I'm relatively new to the game, and have decided to try a mastermind and see how it goes. But there is one point I am feeling a bit torn over, which is what secondary would be best for me.

I have decided on Necromancy as my primary, but cannot decide between Dark Misma or Force Fields as my secondary...

Dark Misma certanly seems to go along nice with necromancy concept wise, but on the other hand an evil wizard could just as well be casting force fields I suppose

My aim for the character is pretty much an all-arounder, really. I am interested in both PvE and PvP.

I guess this all boils down to me being afraid I'll be to 'squishy' and easily killed in PvP if I choose dark misma.

So it would be great to hear what you more experienced master minds think of this.

Dark Miasma is an active Secondary, Forcefields is passive. FF is a one trick pony - defense and knockback. Dark Miasma is a mixed toolset (heals, slows, debuffs, stealth, etc.)

If I was creating a new MM, I'd go for Poison or Dark Miasma. But only because I already have FF - I love the set and it means I can concentrate on disposition of my henchmen more.

I see, thanks for you reply.

I see you mention Poison there, reading over the boards and such you never really see it mentioned much. Is it considered 'weaker' then the others, or a solid set to choose?

Necro/Poison could make a cool crazy scientist ala Frankenstein type of character, hehe.

Necro/Dark is the best MM for survivability, the debuffs from dark, and the control it provides, as well as the debuff and controls of the pets make it very powerful combo. Also, it gets the most summons possible, 8 in total (9 if you have enough recharge buffs on you to get two ghosts out at once).

It is also the most active secondary, which makes it good if you want to do something yourself as well instead of just letting your henches do everything.

For me it has to be /dark or /forcefield

after gettin to 37 on madness and thinkin about how often i actually use traps iv decided its time to remake with bubbles this time. Will delete the original traps madness when i get summin higher..for now shes just an inf generator

I would definately recommend /Dark as a secondary for a Necro. I would actually avoid Force Fields with any set involving Melee troops, as the last power and the one I find most useful is Force Bubble. I personally like fighting near my troops so I can keep an eye on them and stay within heal range for Aid Other (with forcefield) and force bubble will cause all your pets to fight a long way away

Dark also synergises extremely well with the necros as the effects stack up with the Ghost and Lich casting Holds and Fear.

One final point is that Force field and dark are both getting a mini-nerf soon, in that Accuracy Debuff enhancements are changing to schedule B (meaning an SO will provide about 20% boost, not 33%) which is a small nerf.
Force Field is having Personal Force Field recharge timer increased to 2 minutes, so it won't be soo useful in PvP any more.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, seeing as my necro/dark has soloed 99% of the game without any ToHit debuffs (no darkest night, didn't feel the need for it ), I think the combo will still be viable

Dark is still the most versatile secondary for me, and the 'nerf' only brings To-Hit Debuffs into line with Defense buffs, which are already schedule B i believe?

Anyway, it's still Thugs/Dark for me when i7 hits...unless they give us a new secondary set!

Go Poison, its great!
Though as a Merc/Poison MM I doo feel like the strange offspring of a defender/blaster

It has a heal which is nice to keep your minions/team mates up. Envenom is quite handy against heroes and Elite bosses.
The cone slow power is great (nothing more funny than watching scrappers in slow-mo).

And the hold is quite strong too,with a long duration un-slotted against equal lvl mobs.

At higher lvls this pool is the only reason why I would lacky to a higher lvl char, as my minions become poo but I will still be able to help the team.

Im one of the few that went Bot/dark. The reason, mass AOE heal. Ive survived so far to 26, and with all the debuffs i give out, my bots rarly get hit. FF is good il admit, but i feel like im spectating a fight. Im not that type of evil do-er. What id say is, if you don't mind waiting, go FF. If you want to do damage, and have a mass resi for later on, go Dark Miasma
