  1. Some of my older characters have over 80. I'd trade them all for a non-stupid respec system and account-wide storage.

    Fire Kins

t Harkness, You always SB all your imps but you only SB non-brute/tanks if they ask for it? It strikes me as odd you say the DPS of the imps is "blatantly" higher with SB but you'll only SB a few people on the team unless they ask for it.

Surely a teammate with a full roster of powers would benefit much more "blatantly" from SB than a Fire Imp which only has one attack which is unaffected by recharge buffs.
  3. I've actually decided to reroll my son/pain into a fire/pain. Fire makes much better use of the various dmg buffs pain gives you, plus is just delicious damage

Sonic is an incredible effective blast set, its just, y'know, a little boring imo. I don't have that problem with Fire.

Now I just need Painbringer to be as good as Adrenaline Boost and the heal bubble to be replaced with something worth a damn and I will be a very happy Silas.

As for going the route of a Pure Min/Maxer, no, not one bit.If I like a Power Set combonation, I try to make it work, and if I cant, atleast I tried.(Hasnt happened yet.)

If anything, my builds pretty much wow people, (most players dont care in general, but there are times someone notices im not a common build and asks tons of questions, or gives me props) and go agenst a typical Min/Maxer.However, I am somewhat of a Min/Maxer because of 1 thing, and that is the capability to properly building, slotting, and using various tactics on any given build that I decide to play that really makes the combo shine, where others belive its worthless.

If your on Freedom, and see a Earth/Sonic Controller running around, or a Fire/Fire Tanker, or even a Mind/Cold Controller running around, odds are, thats me.

My current builds comprise of the following.

    Defender - Dark/Dark
    Controller - Earth/Sonic
    Controller - Mind/Cold
    Controller - Ice/TA
    Tanker - Fire/Fire
    Scrapper - Claws/Invln
Stalker - Elec/Energy - No Assassin Strike, High AoE Damage,High Recharge build.Surprisingly Powerful.

None of which, from what iv been reading, classify as builds a Min/Maxer would choose, for any reason, ever.

I do however have a extreem amount of fun playing with combos that no one else will touch.

The bottom line, is theres Min/Maxers out there that only play what is the top notch veiwed numbers in any given build, then theres people like my self, that play whatever they feel like playing, but pay attention to how to play, build, and use the powers they have chosen, and then theres the mast majority of players, that will attempt to copy the before mentioned Numerical Min/Maxers, because they are sheep and dont really know how to be individuals in the first place.

Best example is when someone comes on the scene with the name Electro-Shield, or Techno-Thunder, or even Lightning Shield, and they are SD/Elec Scrappers. They are the ones Copying the Numeric Min/Maxers, and are rather obvious to spot a mile away.(iv seen all 3 of these names in the same area, not a embellishment)

To the OP : Your veiwing copy-cats, who piggy back the builds the Numerically Obsessed Min/Maxers make, making it seem like theres alot of Min/Maxers, when there really isnt.

To the Numerically Obsessed Min/Maxers : Not a single problem wrong with your method, its just widely copied by what we all know as, "Bad Players".

To People like me : Keep truckin on and making people raise a eyebrow with a unothidox combo, and bad spelling!
As someone with enormous affection for myself, I do so enjoy it when a thread gives me the opportunity to tell others at length how great I am.

    Don't you?
  5. I'd say overall, (taking usefullness, strength, recharge times, etc), SD/Fire/Fire, Fire/SS/Fire or SD/SS/Fire

There seems to be a pattern here...

Pretty much. While I still wouldn't want to run around with Hecatombs in Brawl and Ragnaroks in Sleet, his tohit chances would be sufficient for almost all content.

For me personally, when I see a build with purples, pvp IOs and 7.5s I assume that the intention is to be more than just adequate.

The accuracy issue aside Force, I'd urge you to reconsider several of your power choices and the levels you took them. I'd take Sleet earlier, (and trust me, an Achilles -res proc in Sleet is goooorgeous), try to fit in Frostworks for MoTFs and other high level content, (for non-accoladed/hp buffed squishies, for tanks not at the hp cap, etc), and to take Ice Storm or Blizzard, if not both.

Ice Storm and Blizzard doing Blaster damage coupled with Defender debuffs is obscene. You're really missing out by skipping them.

    Cold/Ice

Um, wow. Yeah. You want accuracy in Heat Loss and Benumb, especially since you've not taken Aim. Ragnaroks in Sleet? Hecatombs in Brawl? Really? Like, really really?

High recharge and softcap defense is definitely a very valuable goal, but not at this cost.

You want an Achilles -res proc in Sleet. As Kahlan says, if you're not going to take Blizzard or Ice Storm there isn't much point in going /ice.

I would heavily redo this build if I were you. I'm not trying to be unkind here but you've slotted your key cold powers really badly. +70% acc from bonuses is not enough to make Benumb and Heatloss hit when you really need them to.

Either settle for less recharge or less defense. If you want crazy recharge, (which I totally understand and empathize with), then build for about 33ish defense. Then when you need to you can hit a small purple. Being softcapped all the time is not worth this kind of sacrifice.
  10. I like it, looking much better. I'm still not a fan of the Panaceas in Health but its your money

One thing to note is, if you want another slot for something you could take the Kismet +tohit out of CJ because Rage adds more than enough +tohit, especially since you've got good acc slotting and accuracy set bonuses so you don't really need it.

What I've done with my build is 2 slotted Boxing with Absolute Amazements, (whichever ones were cheapest at the time), for the recovery bonus. I'm not sure if you're already running this build so I'm not sure how good a feel you have for your endurance consumption/recovery, but for me personally I wanted to get as much as I could.

Looking at the build again, you could take the Posi Proc out of Fences because I wouldn't have thought you'd get much use out of it. Using Fences enough for the proc to be worth it would be counterproductive since you'd be nullifying your KD. What I'd do with the slot is move it to Haymaker and put a damage proc in there, (Mako lethal proc, ToD negative proc, whatever the KB set is that has a smashing proc).

Build looks much better now though, I'd say all that needs doing is optional fine-tuning.
  11. Um, the rooting in Sonic is barely existant. Only Shout or whatever its called, the sonic equivalent of Blaze/BiB/Cosmic which tbh you shouldn't really be using anyway since its garbage.

I do really like Rad Blast and it does have some synergy with Pain but I'd still give the nod to fire or sonic. While you've gotta be in melee to drop Anguishing Cry, its not somewhere you want to stay and Neutron Bomb is prohibitively slow on a corr that needs to be relatively free to react to dropping health bars.

Being able to put an Achilles proc in Irradiate and using it in conjunction with AC is a pretty nice 1-2 combo, but for overall AoE damage contribution I'd say its of limited use. I say this because unlike say a Kin, you generally shouldn't be in melee except for darting in to drop AC.

If you want debuffing/utility, Sonic does it more effectively since you can AoE debuff with the cone and stack more -res on a single target. If you want damage, Fire blows Rad out of the water. Rad is good, but I wouldn't recommend it for a Pain.

    Tough decision

I have an EM/FA which I made for pvp (lol) ages ago and it is really cool, but as you say EM is absolutely glacial. ET taking a chunk out of your hp doesn't really help much either since FA takes enough damage as is. You can put out huge (if slow) ST damage with BU+FE and ET/TF/BS.

    BUT

I would urge you to consider SS/Fire. Its an awesome pairing. The KD/KU from SS gives you a lot of breathing room which Fire often needs. If you've not tried SS before I guarantee you'll fall in love once you get KO Blow and then Footstomp. The good thing about SS/Fire is both sets benefit immensely from +recharge, so IO building is relatively straightforward. Lots of +rech and +rec to sustain it, then go nuts

A Force Feedback proc in Footstomp works wonders for bringing Healing Flames back up faster. While you can also put a FFB proc in Tremor and Whirling Axe, Axe causes redraw and while decent, Tremor pales in comparison to the awesome Footstomp.

Awesome guys, glad you were able to pull it off Grats.
  14. If you're still looking by then, I'll be back from work today at about 4pm GMT+1, I'm pretty sure I've got one I can sell you.

If you've got a high recharge build so you can have 2 Triage Beacons out at once you actually bring a large amount of survivability to the team with all the regen and +def from FFG (and Maneuvers if you take it).

Unfortunately, most fights don't last long enough for this to matter, but on fights long enough, (like AV/GM fights in TFs), its very nice.

I do wish Triage was mobile though.

  17. How is Scourge unreliable? Scourge goes off more as something has less and less hp. If anything, Scrapper crits are the ones that are unreliable.

If you mean the fact that Scourge doesn't kick in until stuff is almost dead, that's a question of effectiveness, not reliability.

As far as Vigilance is concerned, I think its garbage. An inherent that rewards you for not doing your job or doing it badly is a poorly designed inherent. Gauntlet doesn't become more effective the more your team mates are aggroed. Containment doesn't kick in on mobs that aren't mezzed.

Depending on the mechanics of it, come GR I do think there will be a lot less reason to make a Defender. In my experience, the increased buff/debuff power between a Corr and Defender is not really noticeable, but the damage difference is. For me personally, if things stay as they are the only reason I'd make a Defender is for Empathy, Kinetics to get SB earlier or the absurd -res numbers on Sonic Blast.

The question of how to buff Defenders, (and I do think they need a buff), is tricky imo. Buffing their offense doesn't do anything to differentiate them from Corruptors and going the opposite direction and buffing their primaries doesn't help most of them with soloing and makes the current strong soloers even moreso.

My personal opinion is that an inherent should either help an AT either perform their role better, reward them for doing so or ideally both. Gauntlet does, Criticals do, Newfiance does, Scourge does, Assassination does, Domination does, Containment does, Conditioning is boring but does, Fury does, whatever the MM inherent whose name currently escapes me does.

Vigilance doesn't. It helps you do your job better in the sense of if a team is getting hammered, your endurance costs plummet but if a team is doing well, (which should be the goal as a Defender), its useless.

I don't know why you guys haven't been yelling about this as loudly as Stalkers and Blasters did about their inherents.

  19. Fire/Pain or Sonic/Pain. Fire for damage/AoEs, Sonic for debuffs.

  22. I'm not sure if 8pts of -KB will do the trick. If memory serves, I've got 12. Its enough for almost anything, I only get KBed if a Fake hits me at the exact same time as a Lt or something if they're +3s.

I've also noticed you've got Hasten 6 slotted. I would give Hasten 3 slots, 4 at the most. You'll get much, much more bang for your buck if you put those slots elsewhere. Like Punch, for instance. KO Blow and Mu Lightning are decent ST, but its not going to be enough to drop bosses fast.

I would really recommend you fit Haymaker in though. If you put a Steadfast or 2 in any of your shields you could drop Temp Protection. Although if you're going to take Haymaker, I would take it earlier than 49 >.> Given you plan to run on x8, you'll have at least 1, often 2 bosses per spawn and 4 spawns with 3 bosses. You'll want more ST damage then. I personally run in, hit a Fake with Gloom then drop my AoEs. Once a Fake is getting to about half health, Gloom -> KO Blow -> Haymaker or Gloom will finish them off. Having almost no Fakes bubble makes your runs much, much faster. If you've only got KO Blow and Mu Lightning for ST damage you're making it much more difficult for yourself to kill them before they bubble.

With the level of recharge your build has, I would urge you to consider dropping Burn. Footstomp/Ball Lightning is more than enough to kill minions/Lts and bosses would need two applications of Fences anyway to leverage Burn. Add to that the fact that Fences has an absolutely miniscule radius, you'd be better off just spamming Footstomp/BL rather than messing around with Burn. When I used to have Burn in my build I only really used it on TFs for AVs or stuff like Cysts/the Computer in the 3rd ITF mish.
  23. Some kind of dev/community rep organised event. I would imagine the lack of information is intentional and more will be revealed closer to the date.
  24. I get a purple about every 3ish runs of Liberate TV, but that is a much, much larger map.
