I had this exact fight in mind when I started my DM/Shield. I thought I could do it. I never managed to (that endurence drain just hits me eventually, although, I have had some fights go past 50% health left). I've never won, but I'm glad someone did. Great job. I knew it was possible.
And I'll say it. DM really is over powered... (it's not the damage... it's the heal WITH the damage.) -
Is 90% fury really a fair assumption? What happens when you turn that down to 75% and 50%... I see this as being the reason Brutes show up higher on the list moreso then a a game imbalance. As a scrapper you're always at full damage... where a brute is only situationally at this level of damage.
edited: Heh.. didn't finish reading the thread... i see this has already come up. -

If you could make an attack chain with only Blaze, you'd have 490 DPS...
[/ QUOTE ]
Ironically, my fire/ blaster just hit level 18 before logging last night. -
Ignoring everything else... the highest DPS I've seen in any build I've done on paper would be a fire/electric blaster using electric melee attacks and Blaze.
Once you start looking at DPS across across AT lines, you soon realize that you just can't beat having Blaze in your build. -
I've read in a few posts that this power stinks. I'm curious why? Tell me about the specific mechanics of this power, and what the drawbacks are.
Thanks -
At level 50 killing a minion will give over 1000 inf. There's really no point in selling common salvage at all. When I'm at the vendor I dump all my savage for 1 inf... when I'm at WW, I do the same.
-
I use air superiority on almost every toon I have (scrappers or non-scrappers) up until they can survive solidly without it. Slot it with about 50% recharge and use it whenever it's up... you can keep a target permanently knocked down.

This is more related to the subject then the OP, but I've always felt like superjump and combat jumping should do a front flip at the peak of thier leap.

Do you figure in hitpoints in this number?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes and no. We're looking at sustainable average incoming damage as if it comes as smoothly as possible with no spikes, or more accurately with the exact spikes to match your heals. At that point, hit points don't really matter directly. On the other hand, they matter a great deal indirectly, as they buff regeneration and some heals. Generally speaking, hit points have a linear effect on the number. Twice the hit points will give you roughly twice the number.

I would consider this a major flaw in the rating system then. There's no question a 1800hp scrapper has a much greater survivabilty factor then a 1400hp scrapper with the same stats... and it's not from 28% more regen.
I look at it from a "what are the odds of the thing happening that's going to kill me" perspective. If the thing that kills me is getting hit by 2 alpha shots in succession, and each shot has a 5% chance of landing, then my chance of dieing is 1 in 400. If I increase my hp by enough to turn that into 3 alpha shots, i'm now at 1 in 8000.
That's an oversimplifed model, that assumes for example, that I can always get back to full hp after the barrage of alpha shots that we're calculating... and that all alpha shots are created equal...etc. But it illistrates my point. In this game, very few AVs can string together 1-2 combos of over 1600 hp, but most can do over 1336.
Your calculation would rate the 1600hp build and the 1400hp build as nearly identical, yet I think you'll agree, in practice they most certainly are not. -
Thunderous blast set... blessing of the zypher set... mako's bite (better then the stupify set mentioned earlier which overlaps with the zypher set when calculating rule of 5s)...
red fortune set is also good.
These are good sets for other bonuses as well.
Weave, combat jumping, hover, maneuvers... all these things are your friends.
Note: The teleport pool can hold 4 sets of zephyr. The flying pool can hold 3 sets.... it's pretty easy to get 5 sets in a build if you get 2 travel pools. -

I'm nearly done with my DM/DA build and BS/DA is incidentally my next focus. I'm curious as to what you meant by this comment though.
[/ QUOTE ]
I assume it means that he understands just how good BS/DA or Katana/DA could be, but none of us have really gone totally nuts with a build yet. Mine's at 29 now, so it'll be a while for me. Someone will definitely beat me to the punch. I know you're working on one. Powerforge is also working on one, and we know what he can do. I still need to review his build. (Sorry, Powerforge.)
[/ QUOTE ]
I will correct you on the fact that the "known" scrappers haven't gone nuts on this set. And there is a reason. There is a rule of BS/DA that quite a few of those that are decked out tend to keep. We don't talk about it. Sure you can tweak using MIDs, but that will not compare to learning the set.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll avoid the "pic's or it didn't happen" argument and go with the "if a tree falls in the woods" argument. What's the point of doing something awsome if nobody knows about it. Share with us ... there's no harm in it.
Besides... I14 gave us at least 2 very benificial IO's to /DA (another +3 defense, and that +endurance proc for dark regen). I13 did a lot for helping sets get more +defense from IOs. Whatever you could do before, you should be able to better now. -
Katana/DA or BS/DA have HUGE potential for survivability. I'm waiting for someone to step up and show us how good that combo is soon. (I'm too interested in my blapper right now to do it myself).

MG is a bigger problem, it needs 234% recharge, which means 70% from hasten, say 95% slotted and then 69% global.
[/ QUOTE ]
When I calculate the time you need a power to recharge within, I add up the sum of the other attacks (using arcana time) then add 1 more server tick (.132 seconds) which represents the extra "arcanatime" from the power's last use. This assumes recharge starts at the end of the activation time and not the end of the arcanatime of that power. That seems to be more accurate to my in game expirience. 0.132 seconds doesn't sound like much... but it means you don't need 243% recharge in MG... only about 222%. That last 21% recharge is a very expensive difference. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm really curious to know where the devs are going to draw the line on this kind of thing. I'd hate to see our fun destroyed by farming worries.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. If you like a mission, you should leave it up until they take it down themselves. Who cares if people complain about it. Put fair warning in the description... or don't if you don't want to... it doesn't matter.
Granted, if you're going after some sort of regonition for your work, this probably isn't the way to do it. But we here at the scrapper forum will be 5-starring anything that gets our bloodpressure up. -
I just went 3 heal/end HOs and 3 Dam/Acc HOs. That comes out like this:
95% dam
95% acc
95% heal
95% end
I can still run the smite-sl-smite-MG chain with no recharge in SL due to global bonuses and hasten. -

I like One with the Shield better then other tier 9s. But I still didn't take it on my scrapper. I had it while leveling up, and found that even though the crash is smaller then other powers.. it still dumped my endurance at a time when I needed my endurance more then I needed the mitigation. As a tanker, you shouldn't need it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not picking on you, Shred, but I can't help but laugh at this type of sentiment in a general sense. Very strong T9s (like Unstoppable) that can make a big difference (but are accompanied by a nasty crash) are sometimes skipped because of their crash. Then, the T9s with more mild effects / crashes (OwtS) are skipped because "you don't need it."
It just seems like no matter how Castle designs a T9, people will find something wrong with it. (Hibernate is probably the closest he's come.)
[edit: Not laughing at you - I just find it ironic.]
[/ QUOTE ]
Origionally, I wanted it. Heck, look what it does!? I'm soft capped, and with that i can have over 60% resists to lethal/smashing and jump up to around 2200 hp. But its pretty hard to find something where that makes the difference between winning and losing. I think teir 9s are valuable for those who don't use IOs, and who pick pool powers for concept only. Those of us who min/max with IOs and pool powers, have been assured by the dev's that they're not going to balance around us... I'm not sure that's entirely true anymore, but that's the last official line I've heard on the subject.
It's always been a desire of mine to create a min/max toon that capitalized on a self rez tier 9 power... But I've never gotten it to work out. -

I rolled a DM/Shield scrapper a few weeks ago, but after seeing the DPS Shadow Monkey is doing I rerolled as a tanker. If a scrapper can get to 300, it's likely a tanker could be at least over 160... and solo AVs, too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep in mind, fully saturating soul drain isn't easy... it's very easy to herd warewolves... but in a lot of maps, it's just impossible. And sometimes it'll get you killed. There's no way I could do it with arachnos without taking too much damage, or neuron's minions (who endurance drain... learned that the hard way)... but a tanker, maybe. Getting 3-5 is pretty normal, which is still good damage... just not that 300 number. -

Really ? Hmm... Best I can get is ~225 on a gapless BF->AS->SS->AS, using Heca proc + Achilles in AS, Arma proc + Eradication proc in SS, and Mako proc in BF, and I can't get it with any secondary. Even my SR Mids build would have a 0.06s gap, and that build wouldn't have Aid Self nor enough endurance to sustain the chain. Another SR build would have a 0.12s gap and Aid Self, dropping the DPS to 215.
I still have much to learn.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or my memory just sucks. I'm either remembering or misremembering that Shred Monkey's AV soloing build was doing 231 DPS. Then he dropped Aid Self for additional DPS, so I figured 235 DPS was probably lower than what he actually achieved.
For proof of concept builds that I poked at, let's see... I have one at 220 DPS and another at 214 DPS, so I'm definitely more in your neighborhood.
Shred, what sort of DPS do you do?
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a build that has 1 tick (.132s) of delay in the bf>ah>ss>ah chain (97.5% global recharge from IOs) and has 34.5% global damage (running assault). I calculated that at about 239 dps. It was enough to kill nightstar once but that took somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes... I think sometimes I was losing ground in that fight depending upon the frequency of procs and crits.
I think claws can beat that now, but it's been a while since I looked at it.
I honestly kind of gave up the DPS spreadsheet as of late except to calculate endurance and recharge requirements. Mainly due to my new DM/Shield build. The +dam in that build is so variable that it's impossible to estimate a theoretical model of DPS that's really a decent match to reality. -

One of the folks in my Supergroup posted a pic of your robot, so I had to track down this thread to comment on it.

So, um...what SG would that be again?

Some people enjoy optimizing their gaming expirience. That IS fun to them. The forums are the primary method these people exchange information. Disagreeing with thier posts because you play differently is hypocritical. Posting and sharing this information is actually part of the game for them. Most people wouldn't like it if someone told them that they shouldn't use the costume creator... saying someone shouldn't optimize and share optimazation strategies on the forums is the same thing.
