    2. Much like PvP the base population isn't large enough to justify continued development from a business tandpoint.

And this last bit is just my opinion, but I think we'd be better off if the devs ripped out the old fragile system and developed a new base feature that included the player suggestions an personal lairs. They could probably sell it on the Store or at the very least base packs/upgrades that allowed players to customize their bases with decorative themes.
I'd be all for "base licenses" and base packs if revenue is the issue. I just feel that the parts of the game that actually make it the most interesting seem to be the ones that get ignored the most.
  2. I'm still no expert in base editing, and I know it hasn't been a huge deal for a lot of people, but I see a lot of potential extensions for base items. Some are low hanging fruit. Some are updates now that base balance has changed with raids gone. Some would make good premium items to be made available for purchase from the paragon market.
    1) More inspiration vendors
Currently there is a vendor for respite, catch a breath, and break free inspirations. I believe it's time that new vendors be added to fill out the set. Perhaps an armory option would be good for offensive and defensive inspirations, although many other options are possible as long as it allows the full set. As it is, I haven't seen people really use bases for inspirations. They are readily available everywhere outside the base, and you can get full sets there.
    2) Match hospital inspiration prices
Right now, all inspirations at base cost double. More incentive to not buy inspirations at base. More incentive to not even put in base items that vend inspirations. I don't see why items that are heavily invested in with prestige shoud be at a disadvantage vs everything outside the base. Even "upgrades" that will allow inspriation price matches would be viable.
    3) Team Mission Transports
This idea is a mix of the team teleporter which uses the same vehicles available as base decorations. It would be nice to have the option to "board" the vehicles in the vehicle bays to use them as a team mission teleporter. I could very well see this being a premium item in paragon market that must be purchased in order to unlock it for a base, but I think it both fits well thematically, and is very useful to teams at the same time.
    4) Doors pack
I'd like to see the ability to have doors in a base. Normal doors, security doors, secret doors (like sliding book cases). Another one I see as a good idea for premium items. This may have been a balance issue with raids, but now with no raids, that isn't an issue. In my mind, doors would be lockable by SG rank, so different portions of the base could be made accessable based on rank or having someone of proper rank with you to unlock it.
    5) AE Access
I'd like to see the ability to access AE missions from the base. I see two versions of this that would be great in my book. The first is a "danger room" type of device. Basically, a training room gets set up, and teams can run team training missions using the AE technology. The second version I'd love to see is an AE machine that looks just like a telepad. Basically the idea here is instead of training the team is heading on "real" missions by teleporting to them, just as they would for beacons. Thematically, I think this would be huge.
    6) Added permissions
Right now you can set base access to various items like storage based on ranks in the SG. I'd like to see even "lower" permissions added as an option to allow Coalition or "Public". (This would allow the leader to have a rack accessable to people they bring into the base.
    7) Copy base feature for AE. I'd love to see the ability to turn a base into an AE scenario without trying to rebuild it. This could be used to simulate attacks on the supergroup's base as a scenario for SG's to play though. Having actual NPC attacks on bases would be great as well, but I don't know if the AI could handle that.
  3. The leadership change happened again today, and happened exactly as I anticipated.

    1) Leader #2 (who took over as leader 36 hours earlier in the scenario 2 posts up) hit the limit for inactivity and was demoted back down to commander.

    2) A leiutenant (who for somereason was promoted directly to leiutenant immediately upon joining the group) was the highest ranking member of the SG who was not over the inactivity limit. He was immediately promoted to be the new leader. This player's last login was 4 days ago, which puts him well within the limits for a while.

So once again, who logs in first, did not have any effect on it. It's the highest ranking member who is in good standing (not over inactivity limit). If the entire SG is over the limit, then the first person to log in would by default become leader as the only person in good standing.

With two transitions now following this pattern, I'm pretty satisfied that this is how it occurs.

First off the devs want to discourage people from making solo SG's and
using them for extra storage. They have frequently stated that SG's are intended to be multi-player content.

Second there's the financial reasons for the restriction.

SG bases allow players the ability to store up to 540 pieces of Salvage, or 1,800 Enhancements, or 1,800 Inspirations, or a lesser combination of all three.

Now what Free/Premium player is going to buy extra storage from the Paragon Store if they can get hundreds/thousands of storage slots for free just by making a solo SG/base?

So the devs restrict Free/Prems from paying rent so they have to choose. Do they buy extra storage from the Paragon Store or do they subscribe and get extra storage with bases.

But wait, there's more to the story. The devs, out of the kindness of their hearts, decided to make this offer to the nonsubscribers. If you don't sub, and you want to use base storage, they are willing to grant you access if you use the SG/Base as it was intended by inviting a single VIP into your SG and use it as group content.

However if a person choose to be an anti-social cheapskate, he can go spit in the wind and pay for his extra storage.

Oh an by the way you do realize that it's very easy to build a base that doesn't pay any rent right? These are the only items that incur a rental fee. If you don't have them in your base when rent's due you don't get charged rent.

Storage Items (per bin) - You only need these if you want extra storage
    100 prestige

Auto-Doc / Tree of Wonders - You can buy insp and sell stuff at the NPC store's
    100 prestige

Combat Logs / Contemplation Charts - You can buy insp at npc stores
    100 prestige

Robo-Surgery / Spirit Signal - You res to full hp/end by hitting the hospital
    100 prestige

Advanced Worktable / Advanced Forge - you can use this then delete it and never incur rent
    100 prestige

Expert Worktable / Expert Forge - you can use this then delete it and never incur rent
    100 prestige

Robotic Fabricator / Flames of Hephaestus - Base raids are disabled so you don't need this
    100 prestige

I've been playing 8 years and I have never used the buffs from any of the three following items so you don't "need" any of them either.

    Radiation Emulator / Enchanting Crucible
    100 prestige

    Linear Accelerator / Arcane Crucible
    200 prestige

    Supercollider / Mystic Crucible
    300 prestige

So it isn't hard to craft a base with Teleporter access to all the beacons, and have a functional medbay without ever paying a single point of prestige for rent.
Actually, I wasn't looking at it from a paragon perspective, but from a Supergroup Perspective. I was looking at why you wouldn't want to allow your VIP players of lower rank the ability to pay rent.

The reason it came up for me is that the leadership in supergroups I've seen have actually been pretty inactive but middle and lower ranks couldn't pay rent, so there was no way to actually turn power back on until leadership transfers to someone who could pay. Seemed like a bad design to me in supergroup hierarchy. Paragon didn't choose it, the group itself did.

I do appreciate the rent free base building tips though. I believe that will be useful to a number of people who find this thread.

Also appreciate the responses as to why SG's would limit who could hit the pay rent button. I'd argue if you will be active enough to micromanage it, that system works, but once leadership isn't paying attention anymore, then it hinders the group.

    I do see

    Leader goes over inactive threshold.
We have 1 commander (1 rank below leader) who is 36 hours short of also going inactive.
We have one Leiutenant (2nd lowest rank of 6) who is in good standing.
We have one member (lowest rank of 6) who is active.

I was online at the moment the leader went to inactive status. Leadership was immediately transfered to the commander. So my hypothesis is that unless everyone is already over the limit (in which case it will transfer leadership to that person), leadership will always be transfered to the highest ranked non-inactive person.

Based on this hypothesis, I believe the leiutenant will recieve leadership within 24 hours. I'll confirm or refute that this follows the hypothesis.

    3) False
    4) False, and assumes the same false asumption as #2.

    To clarify the false assumptions.....
The rank structure, beyond the leader/redstar is actually misleading (pointless??). The leader can assign the right to edit bases and/or pay rent to only "low enough" ranked people, if he so wanted. Permissions settings are key, rank isn't. It just happens that most SGs I'm guessing use hierarchical ranks, with ever increasing levels of permissions.
Thanks for clarifying. I suppose I should have written my assumption on #2 and #4 as "assuming your rank has been assigned permissions to complete this task".

Having seen a few supergroups now, none of them had assigned permissions for new members to pay rent or edit bases, even if they were VIP. (Not allowing rent paying sounds silly to me. I'd recommend enabling that for all ranks.)

The set applies extra bonuses when pieces are slotted together. These bonuses are not affected by enhancement diversification, and apply to all of your powers.
Enhancement diversification is what I meant. Thanks to everyone who corrected the terminology.

Set bonuses not being subject to enhancement diversification was one of the big things I couldn't find one way or the other, so thanks for that. That eliminates the diminishing returns I was concerned about with having multiple sets in place each causing Enhancement Diversification reductions on each other.

I am still trying to get my head around soft capping defense as well, although that's not applicable here.
  8. Soft Capping Example: Appocalypse
Being a new player, I wanted to chack to see if I'm understanding how soft capping works on abilities, and thought using appocalypse as an example would work well. I'm assuming a 6 slot set in a single power, with no other powers or set bonues in use. Please let me know if my math is flawed due to misunderstanding part of it.

    Damage:
    Appocalypse has 4 individual damage bonuses of 53%, 33.1%, 33.1%, and 26.5%
    Total: 145.7%
    With Soft Cap Adjustment: 101.9%

    Recharge:
Appocalypse has 3 individual damage bonuses of 33.1%, 33.1%, and 26.5%
    Total: 92.7%
    With Soft Cap Adjustment: 89.9%

    Accuracy
Appocalypse has 3 individual damage bonuses of 33.1% and 26.5%
    Total: 59.6%
With Soft Cap Adjustment: 59.6% (No capping blow 70)

    Endurance
Appocalypse has 1 individual damage bonus of 33.1%
    Total: 33.1%
With Soft Cap Adjustment: 33.1% (No capping blow 70)

Then when the set bonuses are applied:
4% damage - for this ability it would actually become a .6% bonus since we are already in the .15 multiplier range. Total damage bonus = 102.5%
10% recharge - Would actually become a 5.5% bonus since the ability would get into the top threshhold putting some of it at the .7 multipler, and part at .15. Totall Recharge Bonus = 95.4%

None of the other set abilities would have capping issues in this example.

Bonus question: With all of the capping issues, is it worth slotting all 6 of a set in an ability most of the time? Seems the issue would compound with more set bonuses applied where you aren't getting full value. (I realize this still comes out better than SO's, but there seems to be a lot of diminishing returns.)

And as of Issue 23 which allows Free accounts to join SG's, access to that list is a useful tool for Free players looking for an active SG to join. Unfortunately for some technical reason access to the Registry is blocked because it can only be accessed at the Registrar. Sure before I23 access didn't matter because Free accounts couldn't join SG's anyway, but that is no longer the case.

Maybe the devs could move the Registry access to the information kiosks that are around the city.

/Signed to giving everyone that is allowed to join an SG the ability to look at the top 100 SG's in the SG Registry.
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for in my post. (Funniest thing is that I believe it was Texas Justice that suggested I post this suggestion in this thread.)
  12. I know nothing of iTrials (I'm a noob), but I know on many other missions, it's often as fun to go on the complete failure missions if not more so. The efficient runs aren't all that interesting. I'd rather stumble through and learn, knowing I'll get better next time around.

So I think prereqs for leaders seems overboard. Go in, have fun. It's not like dying has any real downside in the game.
  13. I've only been playing for two weeks, so actually just found out that Supergroups were just opened up to free players in that span of time. However, something I noticed was that the supergroup registry in city hall had nothing to say as a free player. That should get opened up.

I actually spend quite a bit on other "free" games. I don't mind there being pay items. They are a business. It's when pay items include things I would consider basic function (tells and access to most forums for example) that I have been turned off.

I'd say that the fact you can join super groups, and that there is a desk that actually tells you a listing of super groups that is disabled would be a perfect example of crippleware. Is the feature necessary? No. Is it something people would pay for? Probably not. But it sure is annoying when that is the first thing people will point you to in order to research groups, because that is the feature in the game to do so.

If you have access to global channels I'd suggest joining Justice For All and/or Justice United as these are the two most active global channels on Justice.
Thanks for that. Unfortunately as a fre player, there is no access to those channels. Those are the crippleware features that make me wonder about diving deeper in the game.

EDIT: Saw someone suggest checking the supergroup registry. That doesn't work for free players either...more crippleware.

    Super Teams

Since this thread is getting attention. Are there RP supergroups on Justice at all? I see things with theme teams, but I'm not looking for something to make new characters. I just play the one character.
  17. I wanted to check to see if my understandings on supergroups are correct. Can I get a true/false on these?

    1) Only a VIP player can start a supergroup.
    2) Only a VIP player can pay rent for a supergroup base (assuming they are high enough rank in the SG)
    3) Only a VIP player can be the leader of a supergroup.
    4) Only a VIP player can edit bases (assuming they are high enough rank in the SG)

    So some questions.
    1) Can leadership transfer from a VIP to non-VIP? (Assuming #3 is false)
    2) If someone is a VIP and attains leadership, but goes non-VIP, do they lose control of the supergroup?

As I've said either in this thread or another of the active PvP threads, my background is more RPG than MMO, so I come to it with a different set of expectations.

Maybe the first addition that is needed is the ability to create 2 team, PvP missions in the AE system. I haven't played with that at all, so don't know if it's possible now or not, but it seems that if players had the ability to design missions, it might cover some of the holes at least temporarily. I haven't done that at all, so don't know what is available there, but assuming that's not possible now.

Note your compass, and pop up your map. To get to the early missions to get acquainted, there should almost always be a red or yellow symbol to tell you that you are going the right direction.
  23. BTW, my quick count for buying level 50 single origin enhancements:
About 106 slots (25 powers, about 15 inherint powers, and 66 slots taken for levels) = 106*50,000 INF = 5.3M INF.
(50,000 is actually higher than they should cost, I just rounded up from actual costs to give a high estimate.)

If I buy a full level 45 set as well, then 10M should be able to kit me out all the way through. I didn't buy a single enhancment until level 40 ones, an that is only because I decided to be level 39 for a while turning off xp gain as I fill in back storylines. Up until that point, I flew up levels so fast, it was never going to be worth it, and I can't imagine it would slow down all that much if I was actually trying to level, so 5M is probably all the INF a character ever needs to buy a full set of SO enhancements.

It obviously gets more expensive if you go premium and start using the auction house and invention systems, so I was looking to see what maxed out a free player. You can swap out bought enhancements for Hamidon enhancements once you find them, but that is pretty much the only improving to do on a free character after collecting your 5M INF.

(Makes me wonder how big a difference there is between a maximized free char with just SO enhancements, vs a maximized VIP char.)

Are you perchance referring to Premium players which can have an inf cap up to 2 billion per character depending on how many Paragon Rewards they have unlocked?
Obviously, to get an auction license, you would be premium instead of free. I'm free, so I have my 25M cap (which doesn't seem to far away). Single origin enhancments don't seem like they will cost anywhere near 25M.

So, basically, I'm saying since I will cap at 25M, and enhancements don't cost much for the store enhancements, I probably have already earned more INF than I will need for the life of the character. I remember when I was proud of getting to 100k, then a player gave me 500k. Now I'm staring at 10M, and I wonder what it is for.

Take this further. Instead of sticking pregens in an arena, what if certain people could play "Advisaries" where they take over "NPC's" from quests to add some intelligence to them. Sure, they will lose to the PC's most likely, but playing having intelligence enemies instead of dumb AI enemies appeals to me.

Perhaps start with certain enemies so that specific power sets are tested. Handle it like PvE instead of PvP as far as how powers work.
