Quote:Granted, it has literally been years since I leveled my Fire/Rad, and my ill control experience is very recent (infact using this double XP weekend to push her to what i feel is a better soloing level for her/FA brute we r talking less than ten hours play to 50. No MM gets anywhere close .
As for troller. I wouldnt say IllRad xps slower than FireRad. Endurance is a pain in the butt on FireRad and Phatom army comes earlier than imps. Confuse is also incredibly powerfull to manage tricky packs or sucky teams. Tho I d say its close but considering how easy IllRad solos AVs whenever PA and AR goes perma i really would pick IllRad for solo toon.), but I really dont remember any painful spots on my fire rad... though i did street sweep her to 50 and not run content so that might be why.
Basically with the Fire/Rad i did sewers-->sweeping in perez-->sweeping in boom-->sweeping in DA (love those fire weak zombies)-->those wonderful wonderful packs of sky raider luets in TV-->katie hannon for the last push towards imps, and then regular content. I dont think there is any way at all a solo ill/rad troller can match that speed, but it might be closer if both were just running missions
It is very nice in that you get your main AOE skills very early (RI, EF, Fire cages, Hotfeet), but as you mentioned endurance is a little tricky. I would think that would be much easier though with inherent stamina.
I would also like to stress again though, Fire/Rad might not be as good at soloing AVs as Ill/Rad is, but it can still take down all but a handful. like i said, the only ones i remember having problems with were Envoy of shadows and Infernal (who i think at the time may have been immune to fire? some kind of crazy resistance at least). I even just recently ran her through all of one of Maria's AV crazy arcs to "warm up" since I just came back to the game after a long break. -
Now all they need to do is change icicles from Lethal damage to cold damage right
And as long as we are moving Ice sets around they better give cold to MMs next wave (even if traps is arguably better) -
I think 9% away before attacks is fine, especially when you consider that you might be at 60% resist and 800% regen 1/3rd+ of the time, and you are talking about capping without EA.
Now granted, I also plan on hitting the cap without EA, but I do have to assume the set was balanced around it being used, so I am not too surprised if the base def is a little lower
[edit] I realized my estimate for IB was a little unrealsitic since it will be hard to slot out all the good attributes and max recharge in it, and the 1/3rd+ up time comes from really IOd out builds, but getting it 1/4 of the time, with 60% res and 600ish regen shouldn't be hard -
Quote:Yeah, if you just want to solo to 50 ASAP, and dont care how you get there, ss/fa and claws/fa are pretty much hands down the winner. If you actually want to go through all the normal content, brute/scrapper/MM, and certain corrs/defs are all very viable options (and all play differently aside from scrap/brute) so you can pretty much find something for any playstyle that will work, so let us know what you enjoy and we can get a better recomendation.SS/FA and Claw/FA brutes are the fastest to lvl but they dont make amazing soloers overall. Invul or WP melee with AoE heavy sets (kat, claw, SS, fire...) are good soloers.
Some MM and trollers are also pretty impressive (bot/traps and ill/Rad coming first)
Also, as far as controllers go, Ill/rad is a great soloer... once you get to the high end. I know I don't enjoy soloing with them too much at the lower levels. For leveling a solo controller 1-50, I would actually say fire/rad will be a much smoother ride (going from my experience raising a fire/rad and an ill/cold), and it can still handle AVs solo (aside from infernal with crazy high fire resist). -
>.>
Inferno should be renamed to Meteor Storm and just be an RoA clone with a different graphic/damage type
<.>
I mean, I know I wouldn't object to that -
Quote:But the thing is, unless real numbers is lying to me, the defense numbers won't be lower (other than the suppressed value of hide, and i have a feeling the numbers you posted use the unsuppressed version, cause that is a TON of aoe defense to get form set bonuses, but can't tell from the snippit), and the recharge wont be slower, ninja blade is a clone of katana...And to Shadowy Dream, I think that if you DO try to replicate the build as a scrapper or even a brute, you'll find your defenses will fall radically short of the ones posted above. I know this because I tried it myself. While the damage will be higher, the recharge will be slower. And if you can't survive the mobs, whats the point of all your damage?
I am at work, so I have to refer to redtomax for now
Sample (at 50):
Ninja Blade--Divine avalanche (stalker)
Cast time: 1.33
Rech:3 seconds
Defense bonus:15% melee/lethal
Damage:46.71 Lethal damage PvE only
Katana--Divine avalanche (used by scrapper)
cast time: 1.33
Rech 3 seconds
Defense bonus: 15% melee/lethal
Damage:55.55 lethal damage PvE only
Ninja Blade--Golden Dragon Fly (stalker)
Cast time: 1.83
Rech: 12
Damage:126.79 Lethal damage PvE only
Katana--Golden Dragon Fly (scrapper)
Cast time:1.83
Rech: 12
Damage:142.64 Lethal damage PvE only
Weave (stalker)
3.75% def
Weave (scrapper)
3.75% def
Charged Armor (Stalker)
26.25% res S/L/E
Charged Armor (scrapper)
26.25% res S/L/E
Too lazy to keep typing doubles, but lets just say focused fighting from SR is 13.875% for both also
[edit] and just in case you didn't realize they have the same APP/PPPs, shadow meld is 20.25% def for both scrappers and stalkers as well
The only two instances I can think of off the top of my head where stalkers have higher defense once combat has started is suppressed hide (1.875% def all i think) and first shield in EA is higher for stalkers since they lose energy cloak, but i think the brute/scrapper version is equal once energy cloak is accounted for.
Recharge/defense bonuses from slotting/IO sets, and everything should be identical for the two classes, and base recharge and defense values are also identical. Aside from the suppressed value of hide, the defense and recharge should be identical between identically slotted stalkers/scrappers (also barring that say, whirling lotus and AS dont take the same sets).
So the stalker and the scrapper would have basically identical defense, identical recharge, but the scrapper will have better base damage, a better build up (100% vs 80%), Vastly superior AOE (whirling lotus/Lightning field), more HP (with a much higher cap), and better heals, in exchange for worse single target burst damage, but comparable to better sustained single target damage...
I don't know about you, but I certainly dont consider 1.875% defense and better single target burst damage worth the loss of Significant AOE damage, Significantly lower HP cap (very relevant for sets with "dull pain" type effects), and possibly better sustained single target damage
[edit] Right now I think the only 3 real things Stalkers have going for them are a 100% crit on fireball, that Icy Bastion is AMAZING and hasn't wont be ported to scrappers (yet), ninja reflexes is a really well rounded set that is currently exclusive.
[edit2] Maybe when you tried to compare to a scrapper you did ninja blade VS broadsword instead of katana while looking at the unsuppressed value of hide? That is really the only way i can think of that you would see a significant difference in recharge speed and defense... -
to obscureent
See that doesnt help you at all, cause here is the problem.
If you took that exact same build, and made it a katana/Elec scrapper instead of a katana/elec stalker, with whirling lotus instead of AS, you would have very similar or higher sustained single target damage, Significantly better AOE damage (which is very useful), and more HPs for when something does get through your defense.
In 95% of the encounters in this game, the AOE damage from whirling lotus+more HP is better than the increased ST burst damage of AS.
Every other aspect of the characters will be functionally identical, even stealth since SS+Stealth IO is easy enough to fit in on the scrapper which is basically all you need for PvE. I think technically your defense may drop by the suppressed value of hide, but for things parry helps with you will be capped either way, and for everything else the extra HP will still be better
I think all most people are arguing, is that if the stalker is going to give up significant AOE damage AND a significant amount of health, just to get better single target damage, the advantage they get in single target damage should be better than "will probably do slightly more damage in short to medium length single target fights, and might end up doing less damage in sustained single target fights"
[edit] made clear that last sentence was just referring to single target damage. -
Short(ish) Answer
When people say they aren't "acceptable" its not unplayable, they are talking in relative terms
If you took one of your IO'd stalkers, and re-rolled him as a scrapper (barring impossibilities like/nin), replacing AS/Placate for the AOE(s) you probably lost from the primary, and then IOd the scrapper out, he would most likely beat your stalker on every measurable metric for damage and survivability, aside from non-sustainable single target burst damage in a 5 second window. The game has evolved to the point where single target burst damage is probably the least important metric because everything either gets AOEd to death or needs sustained single target damage. Even if all damage metrics between the two are close, stalkers will never be able to match the survivability benefits of a scrapper since they have 50% more HP if both are capped.
If you factor in outside buffs/teams, brutes probably win over the stalker by even more due to their ridiculous caps.
note: if the stalker is */*/blaze it may also be able win AOE burst damage due to 100% crit fireball, but thats a pretty limited case and shouldn't be balanced around a level 47+ power that some people have. -
Don't suppose anyone that has gotten in can start revealing the preliminary prices form the store?
Really would like to know what they are thinking for Ninja/Beast run and the enhancement tray expansions.... -
Im sure this is a stupid question, because I am 99.9% sure I already know the answer, but since i don't have a high level stalker to check on, this seems like the best thread to ask in...
I assume the ingame numbers help and red tomax's site have the correct values for stalker blaze mastery, as opposed to mids which states unslotted RoF does 181 damage and unslotted fire blast does 137? I mean, it would be ridiculous if those numbers were accurate, and i know people would be using them for their chains in this thread if they were, but just figured i should check.
Of course, if those are accurate, i think I would finally be able to build a "melee" character that I enjoyed -
Well, I forgot to deal with it last night, so I will check all that again today. I am pretty sure my power/control is ok because that is something I looked at before I sent the first petition to get everything else reactivated.
The rent change did evidently happen just after I last stopped playing (took a long break >.>), so I will double check that before I petition. Still would be surprised if its rent though, because wouldnt the teleporters/crafting table shut down as well if that was the problem?
And with those new rates, why do they even bother with upkeep... My base is currently just for me and my alts (though I played a ton back in the day so it does have 8 teleporters), and is mostly just storage racks for passing stuff before you could email items, and I still think it will take me less than 20 minutes in SG mode to earn all the req'd prestige for rent, just seems annoying to have to remember to switch modes every once in a while.
[edit] though I think I am also sitting on about 100k prestige, which should keep my rent floating for a ridiculous amount of time even if i don't bother to earn more.... -
Guess I will try petitioning again when I get home.
It shouldn't be a rent problem because it is just the smallest size free base and shouldn't even have rent, plus it seems weird to me that everything else still works (like the teleporters and the crafting table right next to the vault which is the whole reason I want the vault lol) -
My main hope for dark control is that it doesn't have Tenebrous Tentacles in it but they then make a Dark mastery APP with it, so that my Ill/Cold controller can get an aoe imob/damage attack >.>
Or they could swap Soul Tentacles for dark obliteration in soul mastery and I would be happy -
I have placed on of these in my base, but for some reason I can't use it.
I had the glitch that stopped my base from being powered but I petitioned that and now this is the only thing in my base that does not work. Any ideas? -
Hmm... looks like the recommended channels are all full, any idea if they do spring cleaning at regular times or anything?
-
Thanks for the info, I will add those when I get home tonight.
Hopefully I will have unlocked alpha on my 4 main 50s by Friday and have my bearings well enough I can start running trials over the weekend.
Then of course, there are the 4-5 new chars i have planned due to all the proliferation I missed >.>. My altitis came back swinging lol. -
I have been gone form the game a long time, (RadioFreeSpirit and the various other radio free channels where the ones to be in, and the /ac get_wings thing was still running rampant >.< ), and just wanted to check how up to date the channels in the OP are, since it hasn't been edited in a while.
I was on yesterday and didn't see any chat in the Radio free variants I was still a member off, but I am guessing I was gone long enough that the active ones would have booted me to make room by now.
Are RF2009 and Freedom Events what I need to add now days? (And an invite to the Freedom Hami Raids channel once I get my CoH Legs back and feel like running him regularly again) -
also, some stats on gang wars would be nice
IE: approx damage per pet, recharge, duration, what you can slot it with...infact, approx damage per pet would be usefull for punks/enforcers/bruisers too -
Can someone confirm that TS has been changed to more of a 5.4ish BI attack? I am actualy kinda worried about the set now, because it doesnt sound like its gonna get a big single target attack (9ish bi) anymore if TS has been lowered from the blaster version...
That or LR will really be a nova type attack, which would suck too since that has hideous regcharge. Sounds Like Elec might wind up more of a pve set and kinda bleh in pvp with so much aoe and no good single target attack... -
wont deny that its just a work around at all, and I have to admit i havent actually done this on test because my school blocks the test server and i got a week left...
But on live if you make a attack my target bind, and a defensive follow bind, and basicly tap them in that order very fast (allowing just enough time inbetween for the pets to start an attack animation) you can get focus fire, and basicly be in defensive mode virtually non-stop. Just repeate that process a few times, and eventually they will be locked into combat enough that you can just leave them in defensive and they wil keep going.
Like i said, its pretty much just a work around, but it does have some other implications aswell...
[edit] there is also the fact that if you were doing fine before, its not like you have to use body gaurdI doubt Ill use it much in pve at all
-
Thanks, i have to do some work/get food tonight, but i will let everyone know how they work tommorow
.
Right now i have it set up with two buttons i can get with my thumb on the keyboard, and it works pretty well (did some practice killing). Pretty much just keep alternate slapping the binds fast until some combination of your minions kill the main threat and or they start taking enoough fire you can let them have free will. It was a little slower than focus firing on one target at a time becuase the attacks with really slow start up (zombie brawl) wouldnt always go off if i switched the stances too fast. If I took my time and waited until i saw the attack start before switching it worked every time. I figure it should work better with mercs or something, since as soon as they get the attack order they can start attacking without any shuffling, just wait for the rifle to start moving and switch them back to defensive.
So long story short, it works pretty well with 2 buttons, I just figured if I could get it on one button i could get it on my mouse (for my other thumb). So if the one button version works better it will be a little more comfortable
Basicly, unless there is some kind of lag between switching stances and body gaurd kicking in, i except to see alot of bind abuse on ranged, and to a lesser extent all, mms that want to cheese. I plan on testing these out when it hits test -
Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, but alot of thread to sift through and i didnt see this in the beggining part.
Along time Ago I thought i saw a hover fly bind that was based on some comand that made it so pressing a button down would activate one power, and releasing it would activate a different one. So as long as the button was held down power 1 would be active, but when you realease the button power 2 would kick on.
Long story short i am trying to make a button that while held down my pets will "attack" and when released they will switch to defensive follow.
Right now the best i can do is 2 different binds (one of each) right next to eachother, but was wondering if there was a way i could make holding down the button be attck, and releasing it switch to defensive? -
Im sure the reason all the sets are parcticly the same aside from visuals is because they wanted to avoid people complaining about taking the wrong one since they are permanent. Not saying this isnt the obvious can of worms that choice was gonna open, but its pretty obvious thats why they did it, to me atleast
-
point taken, but you can backstab someone to gain power, even if they are weaker then you.
Faster than making the tech yourself, just taking it for a quick base design, then modding the crap out of it, a magic lesser than yours but of a different kind with different uses, ect..
Hell, if you REALLY hated arachnos, wanted to see the content, and felt they were weaker then you, it could be a sabatoge mission. While you are stronger they still have quite the set up, and could eventualy become a threat, so you "joined up" but really did some nasty sabatoge, and just got a few ideas for powers and stuff while doing it.
Heck, pick the patron with powers that fit your concept/current theme, run their arc ignoring the ingame flavor infavor of a earning their trust/sabatoge/whatever (even if you are uber, they are still a potential threat), and then as you take the powers they are just what you developed, completely on your own, as you were doing your sabatoge.
Sure it requires some bending, but really, if you had that strict of a RP atmosphere that you couldn't bend things substatially (like always leveling from them, always doing missions you were told about and never ones you designed, all the other people saying ooc stuff), you never would have played to 40 anyway.
I dont know, maybe its just one of those things I am never going to understand since my only actual contact with an RPer in this game was someone who didn't tell me they were rping, and I thought they were just talkative/had a few attacks with a bind or something. Then they leveled, I said Gratz, and proceded to get a 10 minute lecture on how that ruined RPing, and then they booted me from the team lol.
[edit] See, and i can understand your freelance character having no particular interest, but as a scientist, wouldn't she atleast have some interest in stealing their tech. Just ignore what ever Rien says and pretend hes hiring you out to go pretend and buddy up to steal some industrial secrets for him, you just happen to remeber some of them afterwards
Could violate your whole char ofcourse, hard to tell from a 1 paragraph synopsus. -
Ok, I am not saying such a story doesnt exist, but something is kinda bothering me.
People are still complaining about how it ruins their RP concept to have to pick a patron and stuff, but for the life of me I cannot come up with a villian so evil, that backstabbing someone for more power would fit.
Im sure some exists, so could someone just give me a few examples of something this doesnt work for?
wait, i got one, like, super strict code of honor or some such. anyway, just an idea to a few others would be nice, since Im kinda curious, and Im pretty sure quite a few story arcs earlier in the game also involve backstabbing, so its nothing new...
[edit] Also, for the content people, teamw ith someone else doing the arc, and then afterwards, I gaurentee there will be atleast one fan site with all the clues and post missions and such, I think there are already a few that already have all this for CoH and alot of it for CoV
