I think that events should be added to each year, so that it's possible to do the old stuff, plus new stuff. And I don't mean just adding new things to spend Candy Canes on - new missions, please!

No, no, no! This would destroy one of the most amusing things to do (and since the Hollows was revamped, one of the primary ways of learning about aggro ranges in the game).

I'm afraid that's /unsigned from me, because I think the position of the tailors is an advantage, plus it's not exactly difficult to get the GvE edition Pocket D pass, get to Level 3 and then use that to get to the tailor in the Tiki Lounge.

Well, I'm going to vaguely bump this thread for the time being - this idea is going to be on hiatus until after the DXP weekend, I expect, but I would then like to get down to organising it in earnest.

Can I just clarify a few things?

1) You have an installed version of City of Heroes (default install to c:/Program Files/City of Heroes/).

2) You have the CoHUpdater.eu.exe file (as Zortel says, if not, rename CoHUpdater.exe to CoHUpdater.eu.exe)

3) If you are using a shortcut from your desktop, check the properties and ensure that the target is <install loaction>/City of Heroes/CoHUpdater.eu.exe

If all of the above are true or adjusted to make them true, what stage does the client get to when it crashes? What does the updater say it is doing when it crashes? The more information we have, the more likely we are to be able to identify the error.

Fair point, but it really doesn't look like that's the case, given that several of us (admitedly non-MAC) users can access it.

I'm wondering if it's a piece of firewall or anti-virus software that you may have running that's preventing it accessing the ftp site properly (cue silly jokes about no-one writing viruses to infect MACs).

Try disabling any such software you have and giving it another go, otherwise try a different browser. I don't know enough about MACs to offer any suggestions, sorry.

As you can tell, we really want you to try out this excellent game.

Okay, I can get to that page using Safari on my iPhone, which makes the problem slightly more strange.

The file you're looking for is called MAC_CoH_Installer_EU.dmg

Just so you know, there should be no need for you to download the client again. At all.

The file you need to run to launch the game is called CoHUpdater.eu.exe - if you are running any other file it is the wrong one.

A copy of that file is available in your City of Heroes install directory.

I'd suggest going HERE and downloading the MAC client directly.

Actually, I think it makes sense. Patch it on Thursday, run it for a day, and if it's borked you can do a rollback in the Friday maintenance window.

Personally I like to give it two or three days afterwards where I'm available, just in case. I don't like upgrading anything on a Thursday just in case something subtle yet critical pops up and I lose my weekend.

Oh, not denying that Thursday is a weird day to do a patch. It is, and is almost unprecedented in my experience of CoX. They usually put these through on a Tuesday. The only thing that immediately springs to mind for such a rapid patch (considering when the last training room patch was changed) on such a risky day is an exploit fix as well.

Anyway, to the best of my knowledge the bonus character slots have never previously been considered part of the Vet Reward program, since they are a bonus to the account, not the character. I put 2 & 2 together and got 10, because I was adding up in base four.

Maintenance window currently ongoing, so no logging on for the moment (probably just rebooting the servers ready for tomorrow).

DXP is a server-side option, and requires absolutely NO code installing on your game client.

My money says that this is the latest patches in the training room plus models, textures, powers etc for the upcoming Magic Booster Pack.

Mccoll, can you log into your PlayNC Master Account? If you can, then I believe you can get the Serial code from there.

If not, then you're a little screwed, other than that you can go through the "forgotten password" routine to get back into it.

Yes, but if I read the Vet reward correctly, when you get the 60-month badge, they give you ANOTHER 5 for free, on the spot.

Go to the tailor.

Select the costume you want to change.

Make all the changes you want to make.

Click the button that says something like "Use Free Tailor Token"

Click Proceed.

You should avoid the inf cost and lose one of your tailor tokens. Any other outcome is a bug.

I've not mentioned this anywhere else before today, because it's just been a "nice idea" that I've had floating around in my head for a bit.

With the changes to PvP in Issue 13, which generally makes it more accessible to non-hardcore-PvP players, I was wondering what the general consensus would be to a "PvP zone IC invasion" session at some point?

The idea being that a group of us RPers (as many as possible, really) grab whatever character they feel like (hero or villain), and we descend on one of the PvP zones for an evening of banter, trash-talk and heroic/villainous fights. Played IC, but not necessarily an event that actually "happens" in the RP-game-universe - unless the overwhelming consensus is to do it that way, in which case I would ask the "big-thinkers" to try and come up with an IC justification for it.

So, what do people think of this as an option for the (relatively near) future? Thoughts, ideas and comments please.

I sort of agree and disagree with this.

I agree, because it doesn't go far enough to satisfy the most rabidly story-obsessed of us. 3 arcs at 5 missions each? Come on! Okay, 4-5 missions is the length of the best modern TF's, but we won't have the same amount of flexibility that the devs do with the tools.

I disagree, because the thing to remember is that the main CoH development tool is basically the game itself (or so I understand, from what War Witch said at Omega Sektor). Now, to make it user-friendly, they have to create a lot of UI and new tools that the devs themselves haven't had while creating missions for the game - creating the MA is actually helping themselves as well, because they can use the new tools and the more advanced tech they have access to.

What I expect to see in the future is more advanced options, granting us more and more flexibility with the MA system, as the devs fine-tune the tools available. At some point we (the players) will be at the stage CoH was at when it was released, as far as the complexity of missions we can craft. But it's not going to be immediate.
