    Ustream

Yeah, it was acting really flaky. Although, this was only the 2nd time I've been to UStream. I didn't see any video for the half hour I was there. Although, every time I refreshed the browser, the stupid ad came back. As for the chat, I tried detaching it since it was scrolling by too quick in that little block, and it required me to log in on the detached window. Why can't it remember that I'm already logged in?

    @Adventurer

Are you doing off Market, direct trades? What's up with the recommendations? What are you trading? How are you hearing about what they have to offer?
  5. There had been discussions in the past about frankenslotting with low level Set IOs during your low to mid levels (ie pre-30s) as an inexpensive and effective way get better attribute boosts than straight DOs and Common IOs. Several forumites have given their testimonials on it. I've tried to do it on a few occasions and I just don't see how it can be done.

There are just not enough pieces available to buy when I need it. I've tried placing bids a month ahead along with stunting my character's development and still have not been able to fill my shopping list. After I gave up, I blew through those levels in a couple of weeks of casual play and was then more interested in using my usual mid-30s Set IOs.

I've also tried it on the other side as a seller and have placed assorted crafted, very usable, pre-30s Set IOs on the Market for cheap with no takers for months. The last time I had a spring cleaning of my storage bins and I tried to sell these, I left them up for half a year with a retired character. I eventually deleted these IOs.

Low-level Set IOs are just too much work for too little time benefit. I might use what I get as a drop, but still, the cost to craft these suckers are also a deterrent.
  6. You can copy and paste it onto Notepad and manually format it so you can more easily see what you have. But the question is, if you went over x5, does it actually show the real count or did it stop at x5?
  7. And here I am, still stuck at work.

At times I have endeavored to keep one other person buffed with Clear Mind at all times, and that person was always another empath -- someone who would heal or buff me as needed.
I recast Clear Mind after every 2 spawn group or there-abouts. I've developed a bit of an internal clock that causes me to wonder if too much time has gone by between castings. Ditto for Speed Boost and Increased Density on my Kin. I also maintain Fortitude on 4 people. All while blasting during my waits for CM to recharge, of course.

I spent about a year at the Hollows training before I could do this. This was when the Hollows was still relatively new and populated. I was covering every lowbie in the entire 3 block radius semi-circle around the Atlas Gate, and sometimes beyond. I also spent 3 respecs (pre-IO era) to ensure that I could reliable solo my own missions on dinky Defender damage, which at that point were the 40+ and full of mezzers.
  9. With the Gravity set, you have Singularity helping you stack mezzes.

One thing which I've discovered recently, putting the Gravitational Anchor +Chance for Hold purple IO in my AOE immob. It's frickin' great.

Opening with an AOE immob is the same as casting a taunt for up to the aggro cap (17 enemies) that says "kill me now!" Compared with a Tanks's taunt which says "come to me!" and only hits 5 enemies.

How do you have Flashfire and Cinders slotted? Are you aware that all Controllers AOE mezzes have a -20% accuracy penalty? Are you covering that?

As for the LGTF, as far as I'm aware, Rikti don't have any mez protection. They do throw a lot of it to you though. So you must be proactive and neutralize the mezzers first. Put Radiation Infection on the boss before using Flashfire. Or, you know, wait until the meleers go in. You are playing along side team mates, right?

As for the ITF, I believe the Cimerorans are specifically the Controller's bane in this game. You can't play as usual against them because pretty much all the usual controls are useless. The best control to bring to Cimerora is a stormy. However, Cimerorans have no mezzers, so you can't use them as an example for your lack of mez protection. Playing an Emp on the ITF is so relaxing for me because I don't need to cast Clear Mind all the time (which I usually do so there's no down time for it on my team mates).

Which brings up another point, find an Emp who understands what you need and is willing to do it for you and the rest of the team.
  12. You'll need to get Hasten along with some +recharge set bonuses to tighten the gap between Indomitable Wills.

But still, you're a Fire Controller, so lead with Flash Fire. With Hasten, you can have it ready for almost every group (based on my non-optimized build). You also have Cinders which you can alternate in in case you're going a little fast for Flash Fire. And for back up, you also have EMP Pulse. Three powers to almost totally disable every enemy around you (pay extra attention to the bosses): Flash Fire before you approach, and Cinders or EMP Pulse after you jump in. Even if you miss someone and they mez you, your Imps should be able to cover you until you wake up.
  13. Weren't you giving Satanic Hamster your Purple drops? Selling even one Purple IO would get you enough Inf to buy a dozen or more -knockback IOs. Since you don't like to play with the Market, just have him return the favor by acquiring and crafting all the -knockback IOs that you need. This way you won't have to think too much about it and can just treat it as another enhancement.

    - People tend to get scatter-brained when no one is in charge. A part of the leader's job is to keep people on the same page.
OK, seriously, what game did you come from that you needed to do all of this?

COH isn't that hard and as been said before, "normal" MMO strategies don't often apply. If you've played for a while, you'll figure out the game mechanics pretty easily. "Repetitive" is how the detractors usually describe it before rage quitting.

In addition, informal forum surveys have shown that our player base (at least those who visit the forums) is on the mature end of the age demographic (30+). Most can think for themselves and if they've played the game for any length in time, they know what they can do, along with what they're supposed to do. Ditto for their expectations for what others can and are supposed to do.

Yes, there are some people who play poorly, but it could be due to a myriad of reasons: new player, someone who's a young kid, a parent who's distracted with their kids, someone with a physical disability, etc. Of these examples, you only need to give instructions to the new player and only if they make it obvious that they're lost or confused. You can give them a briefing via PM prior to starting up if you're really concerned. But really, the game is easy enough that if they just went with the flow and not cause too many accidental aggro, they'd do ok.

The only additional aside I have about your post is this:
    Quote:
    - A leader lets his teammates shine in their own ways. If your teammate is a tank, let him be a tank and don't do the tanking yourself if you're the healer.
Some players pickup up the Tank archetype just "to be Superman". I find these to be typically young players. They do not know how to "tank" for a team. You will recognize them as being rather timid when approaching large groups of enemies. I'm assuming you're not willing to harass them about it. And if there isn't another player willing to pick up the tanking duties, then you, as the team leader, must step up to tank with whatever archetype you're playing. This is along the lines of keeping the team moving forward. Sometimes you can't know what you've gotten for team mates until the mission starts, which is particularly bad when you've just started a Task Force. If you have played the game enough, in particular, have had the opportunity to observe veteran players take up the point to pave the path for the team, you will know how to manage this. Of course, it gets easier (ie more survivable) the higher level the level your character is due to additional powers.

If you want to get a good understanding of how the game tends to flow, you'll need to team with a lot of people. This sounds backwards, of course, since you need to team to be a proper leader, but you can't be a proper leader without a team. A vicious cycle!
I was going to suggest this too. You need to spend some time as a team mate to get a good feel of how the missions work, the peculiarities of the various enemies (eg who are the healers so you can take them out first) and especially how the various powersets work. I recall that I felt like a total noob whenever I tried out a new powerset for myself during the first couple of years. And I bet that I looked like one too.

If you can't get on a team and feel that forming one of your own is the best way to go, then limit your duties to just recruiting and light guidance. This is an old game and you'll find that most of the time, you'll have team mates with lots of years experience. They know what to do. About the only thing you need to keep a handle on is verbal abuse, squash it quick, petition if necessary (enable chat log in your Options if you haven't yet).
  16. Ctrl-Tab is the default to target nearest foe.

But, yeah, I have been complaining about the Tab targeting system preferring to always target foes furthest away from you at the most critical moments. I even posed it as a question during one of the Ask a Dev events - with no response.
  17. While you do have to pay Rent on all Base plot sizes now, overall, the Rent is way cheaper. It's practically negligible. I think my highest Rent is around 1900 Prestige on a maxed out starter plot.
  18. A side effect peeve with taking up the Teleport pool is that you will encounter team mates who assume that you picked up Recall Friend as the prerequisite power and thus expect you to chauffeur them to every mission door.

There is no need to speed.
  19. My rule of thumb for any power that needs to hit is at least 2 SOs worth of accuracy (you can get better boost percentages with IOs). If I feel that I need more, and I usually do, then I will take up the Leadership power pool to get Tactics. While I'd need 2 power picks to get Tactics (prerequisite, then Tactics), I feel it is a good trade off for saving slot allocations, plus Tactics benefits your henchmen and your other "pets" (aka your team mates).

I pretty much just asked my question right there.
You just need to encapsulate your question with COH related references. Like:

"You know, sometimes I like to cruise the shifting nebula of the Shadow Shard listening to "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars. I'm looking for more songs like it, ie Hawaiian, like "I'm Your's". Something you'd play while flying your topless Jeep (when we get vehicles!) down the beaches of the Cascade Archipelago."
  22. I was perusing the innertubes this morning instead of doing what I'm paid to be doing at this time of day and came upon this bit of merchandise: ebil messenger bag. Which reminded me that I haven't seen the Smurphy in a while. Did he take a break?
  23. One of the disadvantages of Hasten is that because you've got powers recharging faster, you're going to be using them more often which means your endurance recovery may not be able to keep up. Especially, if you're using AOEs more since they cost more endurance. Plus, Hasten itself has a back ended endurance cost, ie it takes a chunk of endurance when it expires. The worst case scenario is not paying attention and suddenly zeroing out on endurance and your armors turning off.

In regards to Super Jump and meleers, typically the reasons are the prerequisite Combat Jump and the later Acrobatics. Combat jump includes immobilization protection and can take defense enhancements. Acrobatics includes minor hold protection and good knockback protection. Both are especially appealing by those who take the Fire Armor powerset because its anti-mez armor lacks immobilization and knockback protection, along with having no defense component in its armors. Fire Armor was all the rage a few years ago back before the Burn power was "fixed" for being overpowered. Fire Armor is the extreme example, though. The secondary effects of the powers are also good for adding additional to existing similar attributes of other powersets.
