Quote:Wait, the points are gated too? Wut?So that's not just a under level 10 restriction I was running into.
I'd kill for some "day job" clothes, well, I will kill/arrest/whatever for them since I know that more costume parts are unlocked once one of your two hit level 10, but wow did they restrict the character creator.
Being able to buy points before 10 would be nice too. It's hard enough to be motivated to get through the intro as it is and then you can't try the archetype that looks interesting makes it feel even more like pointless drudgery. -
Well, don't get me wrong. It doesn't look bad, but it's not great either. I tend to prefer more realistic textures. I'm going to miss the grit from King's Row's sidewalks.

Quote:Yeah, no kidding. Who wants to be Spider-Man in a group of other Spider-Mans? Clone Arcs aside, that just doesn't help with individuality.I was watching an interview with one of the designers for Marvel's upcoming MMORPG.
He basically said "Why would you want to play as "Captain Firepants" when you can play as a "known" superhero, like Spiderman".
He ... just ... doesnt ... get ... it.
I'd much rather play as Captain Firepants - because he is MY creation. Because he is an extension of my personality and expression of my creativity.
I dont want to be locked into someone elses superhero design and be just like everyone else.
Quote:A game that has to recreate Superman as an ice tanker is not a very well designed game.
This is why I will be going to Champions after our game goes away, because it is the only one of the three that even approaches City of Heroes' versatility in customization. Sure, it doesn't have as much stuff as CoH right now, but it's only 3 years old. -
-
Quote:I dunno about that. My main hero, Destructeon, is pretty hard to kill here in CoH. Something needs to hit him really, REALLY hard to take him down. That said, when I migrate to CO after the tragic death of our game, it'll be interesting to see how he'll compare in that game.Yeah, never had a issue with dying been able to handle a pretty nice sized gathering of enemy mobs.
I feel more powerful in CO than COH. Feels like I'm on par if not exceeding the friendly NPCs and tough enemy NPCs. Like the NPCs and contacts seem to interact with the characters as if I'm in their league, another super hero.
In COX feel like there is no way to get as powerful or near poweful of the likes of Statesman, LR, Black Scorp., Positron, Numina, and etc and feel for like an errand person for them than an actual equal. It's like the characters in COX are super heros-the light version that takes on tasks that the real super heroes dont feel like bothering with. -

Nevertheless, I am curious of their source for that information.

Quote:Yeah, showing off how creative I am and getting regular compliments on it is enough of an ego stroke for me.He brought up gear, and how is tied to appearance. I wondered...why would they even do that? That takes away options for customization. "Because players want to be seen with their kewl loot. It's for their egos." That mentality is SO far from my own. Heck, half the time I don't even want to be seen at all in the game. Strutting around showing off accomplishments is the furthest thing from my mind. I'd much rather show off creativity via character concept, if anything at all.

Quote:And here's where Mot's mouth goes OM NOM NOM NOM NOM.We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; mean absolutely nothing to them.
We couldn't convince our friends to play this game for the long run if at all so why do you think we would be able to convince strangers to boycott NCSoft? We are perfectly safe bridges to burn because it's obvious that we can't affect opinion very much.
We are all, if we admit to it or not, searching for something else to sink our time in, knowing that the things this game had can't be duplicated totally, mostly or even partially in any other MMO out there. Some of us will return to consoles or primarily single player PC games but I have a feeling that over the short term a fair number of us will be looking to MMOs that cost little to nothing to play. We may end up playing several of them so we never get too attached to our characters again.
Some of us over the last 8 years have poured a lot of money into this one game and now that it's done, now that we lose everything, aren't looking to repeat it. And in some cases, depending on your friends, that choice will end up being GW2. One time cost, no subscription, yet another sword and armor fantasy romp so you may not develop a strong attachment to your characters. I already have friends pressuring me to join them, and if it goes on sale it may be something I pick up. $50 to NCSoft is a lot less than the $150+ I spent year after year with them. It'll still hurt them in the long run. -
Quote:That's okay, my main hero Destructeon was a Invulnability/Super Strength/Energy Mastery Tanker with Flight and Super Speed. I think it's pretty obvious he was inspired by that guy with the cousin. When I port him over to CO after the servers here go dark, he'll finally have super breath too like he's supposed to.The archetypes are just premade characters (with two powers slots less than freeforms)and they are not the best choice of powers and skill (no real player would create a character that way)The way to enjoy the game is to create a freeform character. Now even silver (free players )players can buy a freeform slot on the market.
What you would say about a girl that has superstrenght, invulnerability, fly,can shoot laser beams from the eyes and has superbreath ? That is one of my freeform characters not the cousin of that guy (okay i admit that i was inspired from her when creating that character lol ) -
Quote:Actually their costume creator looks quite impressive. The problem is, apparently, for new players, most of it is actually GATED behind level 10.And there you have it. My general response to CO is "UGH!" but CO is the only game in town, so I will try to make it work. Having to use the same face as everyone else makes me a sad panda, and thier costume creator SUCKS. Plus, there's almost nothing in it.... but when life gives you lemons and all that.
I kid you not. -

Spectrals. Sappers. Tsoo Sorcerers when on a melee character.

Quote:Champions has short term buffs that frequently drop from enemies, but they're not the kind you store and use at your leisure. They get picked up when you get near them and immediately apply. Which is preferable to me, as I hate managing consumables.Quote:In Star Trek Online in space, you can pop a Weapons Battery, which provides a boost to weapon power for a brief period, and in a way is both a Rage and Catch a Breath. On the ground you get Power Cells, which provides a direct damage boost. You also have hyposprays for health, and shield batteries for, well, shields. Space also gets shield batteries, but there aren't any consumables that will repair your hull (your bridge officers do have abilities that do that, though). Engine batteries can sort of boost a ship's defense indirectly (defense is based on how fast your ship moves, among other things). But there's nothing that will boost accuracy or resistance, and there's certainly nothing like an Awaken or Break Free.

The CoT ghosts have always given me issues. The Spectral Daemon Lords are the worst.

Either Nerva Archipelago or Croatoa.

There's significant doubt that they negotiated in good faith. As many have already said, they likely asked for an overinflated price tag and proceeded with refusing to haggle downward.

Quote:Good analysis. Spot on.To paraphrase (a.k.a. put words in their mouths):
We wanted to let you know that your voices have been heard and your concerns have been taken into serious consideration. (We want you to buy our other games, so we will act like we really thought about this.)
We appreciate the overwhelmingly constructive and positive messages in the emails, notes, and packages you've sent in support of the game. (Especially the ones that explain, rationally why you crazy people love this old, moldy game. Those are so funny!)
It has not been an easy decision for us to close Paragon Studios® and prepare to shut down City of Heroes. (We had to call a meeting and order lunch and stuff.)
We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. (When they asked, we said sure...for a zillion dollars. Ha ha ha.)
City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts, and we want to ensure its reputation and the memories we share for the game end on a high note. (We don't care, really, but we can word sentences to make some of you think you're acting childish and feel bad. Silly Amerians!)
Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years. (That way you can stop protesting, signing things, holding marches, contacting the media, writing letters, sending costume pieces and generally making us look like the d-bags that we are.)
The NCSOFT® Team (by way of an outside firm that makes us sound better. -
No, no it's not.
MAKE MOAR NOISE!!! -
Quote:Indeed. Like I said earlier, people, CRANK UP the heat. That is their PR dept trying to get the CoH player community to stop making waves over the shutdown of the game. Don't buy into it. They want us to be quiet because we are drawing attention to their poor business decision to close down a game that has a strong player base and is making money. Keep fighting. It's not over yet.
-
Indeed.
This. I've seen people spew rather laughable historical inaccuracies and actually believed them. -
Quote:That was the Japanese. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The Germans bombed London.Me: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
With that corrected, I'm not surprised by this announcement. As I always live by, expect the worst but hope for the best. Well, the worst has happened. But don't give up.
This is just an incentive to make even MORE noise.
Shout at them now. Shout until your lungs can't take anymore, then shout some more.
Also, I wouldn't put all my hopes into an emulator. With as petty and selfish as NCSoft has shown itself so far, it'll slap down a C&D on that emulator in no time flat. -
Well... it's definitely bigger than a breadbasket, but smaller than the Moon.
