Quote:So... this section is labeled "Player QuestionsGot a Question? Get an answer! Players helping players find information related to CoH/CoV" and it seemed more appropriate than the section labeled "City Life - CoH & CoV General DiscussionsThis forum is for City of Heroes and City of Villains game-related discussions"? Really? *boggles*This isn't going to be a rant...but it's certainly not pleasant to hear. (Could not find a forum to post dissatisfied issues w/ the game, so if a Mod sees this and wishes to put it in the proper place please do so)
Quote:Live Server Publishes. Why so many of them? And who gave them my work schedule? Seems EVERY SINGLE TIME I have some hours to play w/o kids, the wife, or work...there's an unexpected 4 hour maintenece, or live server publish. Wait...don't they have a once a week Server Maintence? Oh yeah...that's Thursdays.
Honestly, I cannot WAIT for my subscription to go "Free" because I love this game. Really I do. But it NEVER fails to piss me off to a degree it's hard to describe to any person who doesn't have rage issues when random LONG intervals of playtime are interrupted for no real reason.
Quote:I worked for a game company for a while. They had a policy that NO ONE would dare break. All patches went in on patch day. PERIOD. There had to be some kind of EPIC flaw in the game or exploit that hundreds of people were using to usher in a "hot fix". Most games are like that. Know why? People will not continue to pay for something that's not available to them at their convenience. Imagine if McDonalds closed all their drive thru's. Think people would still go there if it was a sit down only restaurant? Only die hard fatso's and parents.
Tourettes.
MacDonalds closing their drive thrus would not affect me at all since i eat that junk maybe two or three times a year, and only if it's the only quick option during long road trips. Come to think of it i never use the drive thru anyway because walking inside is a good excuse to get out of the car and stretch my legs. Even then i can't stand most of the cheap garbage they pass off as food.
Also, that game company you worked for, and we both know which one you mean, is known for 8-12 hour downtimes every time there's a patch and regular multi-hour maintenance sessions. i can only presume the reason you didn't notice that is that being an employee you were working whenever the game was down, and that's the only reason you make assertions that most actual players of the game know are false. (In my case i'm aware of this because i live with two players of that other game.)
OP grade: C-, would not recommend. -
Quote:Yes and no. For one thing some of those powers are not, and never have been, available to players. Also, NPCs do not necessarily have the same base stats as players, so powers with the exact same or weaker numbers than a player power can be more effective for an NPC. (Also, NPC powers are not slotted, so claiming it's because their powers weren't nerfed is just silly, especially for the player powers that have actually been buffed over the years.) Consider Bobcat being able to basically two-shot a full-strength Primal Hamidon; that is not because she has an unnerfed version of Vengeance or Claws.Actually the reason why some mobs have better versions of player powers, is they have the legacy version that players used to have but player powers get nerfed, mob powers don't.
*meh* i'd do something silly like trying to invoke Arcanaville to elaborate with actual stats and numbers, but this is far too silly to bother with.
The Resistance are annoying because of the powers they have been given and the way those powers work. It's really irrelevant on a number of levels how much those powers duplicate or diverge from player powers since some, like stealth, use different mechanics when used against players than they do when used against NPCs. -
-
Quote:And yet they routinely do from the early levels on.Mobs really shouldn't have abilties much more powerful than the players version, unless they are encoutnered one on many, an IncTrial boss, or AV for example.
Mostly because they're dumber than bricks and need to "cheat" to present any sort of challenge at all. That said, the issue is more with the stacking of overpowered abilities and/or abilities that effectively hamstring many ATs and builds on base difficulty. Those types of mobs are much rarer and more annoying. -
Quote:If by Ancillary you mean the standard APP and Epic you mean Patron Power Pools, then i have to ask if you're respeccing a VEAT? VEATs do not get any access at all to APPs, only the Patron pools.Well, I'm back and bought a month of service after being offline for the past few issues.
I'm logging in and am trying to respec my level 50 villians with Ancillary Powers, but the option doesn't appear when it reaches the correct level spot. The Epic choices appear, but not the Ancillary ones. Am I missing a step? Is there something I need to do first? -
That's what i did. i really wanted the Celestial sets, so i picked those up right away; and i didn't feel a pressing need for the Tier 9 consumables, so i didn't get any of them yet.

Quote:First Ward is probably the best zone ever added to the game in terms of atmosphere, appearance, and storyline. IMO, YMMV, ONVOMOJSo, I went in for the first time this weekend...and I was impressed...and then jealous. Jealous because I wanted to take a Praetorian through on his leveling journey. Except...I wanted to play my regen brute...who wasn't a praetorian.
So I rerolled him and when I got to First Ward again, I felt totally in synch with the story. It is weird, but it is an immersive experience to continue this character's journey from Loyalist to Warden (I didn't do any non warden arcs) to Hero and now thouroughly disillusioned due to events in the first two First Ward Arcs.
My only regret is not doing Helix, but well, Warden only. Still I can Ouro an older character to see if there is any recognition.
First Ward is unsettling and detaches me from my expectations. The enjoyment has been immense and the Apparitions are sooooo damned creepy. -
Quote:Analogies becoming progressively more contorted, distorted, inaccurate, and irrelevant. Then they should of refunded all pre-purchases no? Because what people bought from them ,turned out to be different to what they recived. Their are a metric ****-ton of laws against that by the way.
"I sold you prime cod, but we didn't have cod, enjoy your flatfish"
Points being missed or ignored by a larger and larger margin.
What was that powerset from the other year that used to get posted in cases like this?
We're on the verge of a wholesale cognition and logic collapse here, people! Won't anyone think of the (utterly irrelevant) children?!
Quote:Sure it is. If they didn't refund people who bought GR prior to Alpha slot's removal from the deal, then those peopel still purchased access to the Alpha slot. Hence according to Posi's words, they should keep access to the Alpha slot.
The rest of the incarnate system? To paraphase various 80's movies, "That wasn't part of the deal!" -
Uh, that didn't make any sense, even when allowing for the errors. Seriously. They did not sell you the contents of the beta. What's in beta is not a valid metric of what you will get when it's released. Notice how we didn't get an extra three enhancement slots when i21 went live? They were in beta for a large part of it.
-
i'm a big fan of Dark Miasma, Traps, and VEATs. Probably because i like playing team support powersets that focus on the enemies.
-
Quote:Makes sense to me.I'm guessing they did this because ninja run, beast run, rocketboard, etc. all kick in at level 4 so might as well have all the travel powers available at that level.
Also, this seems like a smart move in that travel powers are part of what makes this game so much fun and helps make players feel superpowered. -

WOOHOO!
(i'll think of specifics to comment on later.) -
Quote:Oh hell no, there's no way i can afford to give myself one of those right now as much as i could use one.But there are ways of restoring the past. The other two new player-created billboards not 'found' and snapshotted yet are:
- a second Flying Lotus Training billboard with the motto: our kung-fu is very strong
- kinetic energy drink (a narrow billboard)
The first players who can find and snap a photo of the missing billboards will give themselves... A BRAND NEW CAR!!! -
Quote:Uh, you do realize that the market has been across all servers (even across the NA and EU servers when they were separate server lists) since the market was added to the game, right? The only significant change in that status since the addition of the markets was when the hero and villain markets were merged.I almost felt mischievous, like I was cheating. It was not out of the ordinary to spend a million influence (or less) and make back 10 million-- on a single recipe. After a few days of invention-selling on Virtue (a populous shard with a very healthy market), I began to get a feel for good bargains and quick sellers.
The price lists and inventory you see for any item are the same no matter what server you're on. -
Quote:Apparently you can.Incarnates didnt come with GR. It came out after. Though they did say one had to have bought GR for access to Incarnates.
That said, I'm of the opinion that, they're still free players who get access to the game, when not paying a monthly fee.
What's to complain about?
"I get to play for free! But not this one part of the game?! Grrrrr! I ragequit! Can I ragequit a game Im playing for free?" >_>
Although it does take some of the impact away: "This game won't give me access to everything for free?! That does it! I'm quitting and now I won't be using server resources while paying nothing for them! Take that!" -
-
i'll buy that as soon as Batman gets stiletto heels for his outfit.
-
Quote:Unless, of course, you want full access to everything in the game. So? The same can be said of the Original CoH, CoV, or any retail version of the game (no matter where it was purchased from: NCstore, a retail store, or Steam). As of Tuesday the need for a subscription is non-existent.
They may have removed having a subscription as a requirement for most of the game's content, but not all of it. -
-
Unless they have all available builds already filled with IOs they can always switch to a different build with SOs in it. Or, they could buy an invention license, paying less than a seventh of what they were paying per month as a subscriber, and continue using IOs.

Quote:i think i remember issue 4 being particularly annoying with constant rubberbanding and server rollbacks, but i could be wrong. As in it took over three minutes to superjump from the Northern tram station to the Steel Canyon Icon. Frequently losing 10-15 minutes of xp when the server was rolled back. Compared to some of the early issues the impact of i21 on my gameplay rewards has been slight. Yes, there's been more downtime, but far less loss of actual play rewards.Question: How is this really, in any way different from previous issue rollouts (other than the multiple hardware upgrades)?
In 2042, Issue {INSERT NUMBER} Was Beginning
Us: Somebody set us up the bugs!
Devs: Main patch turn on!
Us: All your bugs are belong to us!
Devs: What you say!
Us: HAHAHA you are on your way to bugs. Make your time!
Devs: Patch every zig!
Seriously though. Every issue tends to have a couple of really nasty show-stoppers, and a swarm of nasty little issues and annoyances that need to be swatted.
The only difference this time is that the free-players aren't included just yet. -
Quote:*shrug* Since i never posted support for or paid attention to demands that veteran rewards be locked away from newer players i apparently didn't notice most of the threads you mention. i do recall posting in prior years that all veteran rewards should be earnable by all players through things like recipes and mission rewards since veterans receive them automatically for free. One of the first few threads I made when I joined the forums was asking for some system to 1. Give CoH more money, 2. Give the new guys a chance of getting the 7 (6 then) years of rewards reducing the hopelessness they would feel with iconic costume parts seemingly totally out of reach.
To say the least I got totally POUNCED and FLAMED, maybe even Nuked from orbit.
So now that this has actually come to pass, where is the outrage. So it is heresy for a guy to suggest something like this, but when it is actually implemented everyone is all alright with it? Where is the hate threads?
-MCM
So the new system is a non issue for me. Even without the yearly subscription badges i'd be fine with it. -
-
Quote:Absolutely. Of course that axe swings both ways.Just for those that thing the topic of this thread should be squashed so hard,
I present this Wired Science article.
So line up and keep swinging squashers. You are helping your cause so much when you do. Grind that ax.
So what would you suggest? Saying yes to all demands and then continuing to do exactly what was actually promised when they finally stop whinging? (We've had a couple clients clients who constantly demand things that are completely unreasonable and well outside what they are paying for, so the boss just says yes to everything until they go away and then we do the work we were actually contracted to do. He calls it "yessing them to death.")
