Quote:And Chlamydia is such a pretty sounding name.I make weird names, so I don't have serious issues.
My most recent creations ---
Laird of Kinfyre, fire/kin controller, probably going to be scratched. Scottish theme.
Spaghetti Monster, warshade
Giulia Tofana, katana/wp stalker, named after a historical figure
Ranavalona, claws/wp brute, named after another historical figure
Wolf Witch, ice/cold controller
Mayahuel, electric/mental blaster, named after the Aztec goddess of tequila
History and myth are generally rich sources of names. So's a medical dictionary. -
Quote:This several times over. i already had a few alts that went with Combat Jumping, Swift and slotted Hurdle. Now they're a bit faster than they used to be. The only alts that are really doing much dropping of travel powers are those who'd gone SS or SJ because CJ wasn't quite fast/high enough.I don't think so. Some of my toons are going NR because they don't really NEED a travel power. But others still retain it because the need is there.
And a few of my newer alts are waiting longer to get travel powers. -
Quote:Congrats to all, but - where is the information? I read the interview and it just said "content".
Can we get some INFORMATION?
Quote:First off, major congrats to those moving up the Paragon Studios ladder, especially to War Witch.
Secondly...
CONTENT
That's the word I've been waiting to hear for a long time and hearing it now has me very excited about the future of the game.
Quote:I just have to point out how many times End Game Content was mentioned in the above post, and in the linked article.
Wow.
Quote:Not trying to raise the Doom Meter(tm), but the move to work on the end game content for Posi is a *voluntary* move, correct? It could be read as a demotion.
I mean I think Posi will be great at developing a compelling end game since he's the one that largely brought inventions to CoH. I want the announcement to mean that he's just taking one for the team because he's really good at designing as opposed to promoting someone else because management wants a "change of direction" or other nonsense.
Quote:Congrats to WarWitch on her new duties. In the short time she's been at the helm I have already been impressed with the way she has taken the ball and run with it. Of course, after she felt good about everything is when I gave her the debrief on the current crop of player concerns and things to keep a close eye on in-game, bringing the reality of the position crashing down around her. Heh heh heh.
And a lot of you caught the reference to the End-Game that I am now working on. WarWitch frees me up to be creative again (yay!) and my strike team and I are designing and implementing an all-new system for your max-level characters to participate in. Rest assured that my focus for end-game is FUN. I won't be able to give out any specific details for a while, but I think you are all going to be very excited with all the future plans for City of Heroes, whether it is Going Rogue or beyond.
So yeah, you all can now fill up WarWitch's PM box with all your suggestions/exploits/requests for info/general chit chat. I'll still be around and answer questions when I can, but she's the "go to girl" for all that stuff now.
Here's the torch, WarWitch... don't burn yourself with it.
Really, really interested in what will be coming in the new End Game content. Hell, the emphasis on content and end game in the announcement is more than welcome. The promotions that are not in response to departures are encouraging. Such a change from the period when Cryptic left the game and dev team on minimal life support a few years back. -
Quote:whatIt's the lack of punctuation and capitalization that's the problem there, not the spelling.
It still counts.
Truth be told i've taken to ignoring most of the spelling and grammatical errors in the game's text, especially those that i've been seeing for over five years. Besides, they tend to be minor flubs compared to what i encounter from players every day. My current favorite is simply not using any punctuation at all, especially when asking a question. Most common is getting tells like "team" or "need team". i usually mentally roll a die when getting those to decide whether to treat it as a statement, question or non sequitur. (Heavily weighted towards non sequitur.) Not that my spelling and grammar would win any awards.
Mostly it's some of the homonym and apostrophe abuse in the game's text that still gets to me at times. Not sure why, but that tends to annoy me more than outright spelling errors. -
In the last two months i created Feral Catgirl on Virtue, Freedom and Champion. But then it's such an obscure, esoteric name, neh?

Quote:Maybe my experience is unique, but generally past the mid-teens even if my teamis dying Vigilance does little for me because if they're dying it's due to excess aggro, not a lack of endurance, and extra endurance for attacks doesn't help much when at that point my focus is more on helping the rest of the team stay up, not on drawing aggro to myself.I see where the arguements for a change to Vigilance is coming from.
Solo, it does nothing for you. This I understand.
On a team that isn't dying. It does nothing for you. And this has people upset how? If the team isn't dying, you're lack of an active inherent shouldn't be a problem anyways. -
Quote:The damage has nothing to do with why the set wouldn't work in the game, but sure, why not?Lol what if they made the damage vary based on the size of the enemy? like 0 damage to a GM but 1-hit instant kill to something like a rikti monkey XD
(i fully support silly ideas that will never appear in the game anyway.)

Quote:Powersets are origin agnostic, they don't care what the origin is and it seems unnecessary/a bad idea to make Wrestling limited by origin. (Heracles was big on wrestling, and the sons of gods are usually considered magic origin.) That said, the graphics and animation engine isn't capable of doing things like grappling/throws. With the variety of sizes and shapes characters can be grappling is just not possible to animate in a way that looks acceptable. (Based on what i recall BAB posting about this a while back.)And to compliment Street Fighting, how about a Wrestling power set (Natural of course)? Complete with body slams, hand claps against the head, flying whatchamacallits, etc... Think WWF-style fighting.
As i recall, it's been confirmed that an electrical control set is in the works; i'm guessing that most likely it will be out around the same time as Going Rogue. -
Quote:*snickers* That would be cool, but no. As has been said, there are unofficial forums where info about closed betas usually gets posted, although if those doing it are smart they don't give enough details to be identified. Still haven't heard anything through those channels either, so i agree that it hasn't started.I believe Alpha stage has already started, and that some of you... Know what the Hell is going on... and you just sit on your butts laughing at all of us who just want some new info.
Quote:If there is an Alpha going on, it's got to be internal. When they get to the point where any of us gets to play it, or even the "Friends and Family closed beta" stage, it gets put up on Test...and it's definitely not up there yet. So the only ones that know what's happening with it at this point are developers, paid testers, and other employees of Paragon Studios (and possibly a 3rd party testing company, I don't know if they include that in internal testing as some companies do). So if you're refering to anyone in the player base knowing, it's highly unlikely. -
Quote:Most Targeted and Personal Based AoEs are spheres. A few are vertical cylinders, but those are generally the AoEs that use summoned pets, like caltrops. And cones are, as already stated, cones.Ah yes I didn't think about cones.
So to clarify, any Targeted AoE attack that is cast off an opponent and affects the area around him in a sphere (Or is it more of an ellipse?) will only gain casting range, not increased radius.
Ex. Fire Ball, Explosive Arrow, Explosive Blast.
Any Targeted AoE attack that is cast in a cone outwards from yourself will gain casting range. Because the cone's angle doesn't change, the farther reach will create a wider cone.
Ex. Fire Breath, Fistful of Arrows, Energy Torrent. -
Quote:That would need to be an Accurate Teleport set and only useful with three powers since teleport magnitude is only relevant when teleporting enemies: Teleport Foe, Starless Step and Wormhole. i'm pretty sure that an accurate teleport magnitude enhancing IO set would not be as useful or desired as the snipe sets when you consider how many more powersets have snipes. It would be cool, for example, to have a set or two that enhanced teleport magnitude.

Quote:i won't argue with that, but what really needs to be done is convincing the Devs, and by convincing the Devs i mean people providing numerical support for a change that is balanced from the Devs' point of view.I don't necessarily disagree that Defenders are balanced in relation to the Blueside ATs and as a Buff/Damage they are good (although some controllers can give them a run for their money) but I don't think that they are balanced in relation to Corruptors and with Going Rogue this will become more obvious.
Finally I'll note that Vigilance was introduced between Issues 5 and 6. Even given that Defenders were balanced without needing an inherent THEN the game has changed a lot in the ten issues since then so i'm not convinced that is still the case. -
They both operate on the principle that the usefulness of the inherent should be tied to the diminishing of friendly health bars? (Personal or teammate.)
i still like the suggestion of giving Defenders a discount on DPE, like Arcanaville suggested, even if they are the only blueside AT to have never received a damage buff.
Which would, if anything, further marginalize the importance of the Defender inherent.
But i still tend to agree with the theory many on the forums proposed when Vigilance was first added: The Devs felt that Defenders were already properly balanced, and Vigilance was added so that Defenders wouldn't complain about not having an inherent. (The Devs later stating that Defenders were considered the most balanced class as is pretty much confirmed that theory for many players.)
Will i remake some of my Defenders as Corruptors when GR comes out? Maybe, but it won't be because i don't like Defenders anymore, it'll just be that Scourge and putting damage first fits their concept better. -
A couple of my alts know each other, but most either do not, or would only in passing or by reputation.
Storm Locust and Thunder Locust are both avatars of a machine intelligence that allow it to operate in both Paragon City and the Etoile Islands, so they're basically two faces of the same "person". A person who really, really despises the Rikti despite the fact that its existence is the result of an accident while reverse engineering Rikti technology. Then again, she might actually be an accidentally uploaded human consciousnes. Even Locust doesn't know know for certain.
Sturmsoldat Valkyrie was given her powers by Doctor Von Hellreich and is a loyal assistant, so they definitely know each other. -

Quote:Well, Hero Con was on the weekend of October 24th (less than 3 months ago) and a thread compiling the GR info that was given then is here.I was just thinking, it been about 5 months since when heared anything about GR, so deves got anything new to say... or soon? I know it coming out some time in Apirl or May... I can't wait hehehe.
Not much GR info has been released since then.
Edit: There are lots of pictures of GR stuff that was shown at Hero Con in the thread and links to videos of the panels and a badass demo of Dual Pistols. -
Quote:After the sentence you quoted in that very same post:Outside of fire controllers this is certainly not a given.
Last time (or maybe the time before) we had this debate I did the numbers for a ice controller versus a /ice defender.
The Defender easily came out ahead, even without factoring in the larger buffs from the primary.
Quote:i suspect that on average that Controller and Defender damage aren't that far apart, from what i recall Defenders on average can actually put out slightly better damage, but Controllers can use their damage with far greater safety, which means they can deal far more damage for the risks they take.
i've played both Defenders and Controllers to 50. My Controllers overall solo faster than my Defenders, and both do about equally on teams. -
Out of curiosity, where/when is/was "dink" in common usage as an ethnic slur? While i've seen and heard it used on rare occasion to mean dumb, or the more common "dinky", meaning small, i have never seen it used anywhere in a racist context.
Then again, terms like "gypped" and "Jerry-rigged" are derived from racist terms as well even though many probably don't know it. -

i'm debating whether it would be worth dropping Omega Maneuver or Spiderlings on my flying crab of death from above to take Maneuvers instead.

So, opinions?
Suggestions? -
Sounds perfectly balanced to me. Think of all the other sets that get AoE holds at level 1. Except, to make it even better, "with a smaller success rate", so that it will not reliably do anything at all. Well, except aggro everything onto the user since there's not a chance in hell the Devs would give anyone a non-aggroing AoE hold. Sort of an alpha-strike drawing power. Sweetness. Do it NAO!

Quote:Actually, i think it's more that he posts sloppy, hard to read posts oozing with an arrogant attitude of automatically being right while making statements that are clearly wrong that tends to frustrate some people. Personally i've taken to skipping over any posts he makes in other threads, but not putting him on ignore. Occasionally he posts something intelligible and amusing enough to be worth reading.1) Everyone else understood his point, too, but it required some effort to decipher those posts which we wouldn't have done had he spent some effort with his spelling in the first place.
2) He might not care that the way he acts here is frustrating to some people, but those some people who are frustrated do care.
So, yeah, that's about all i have left to say in this thread.

Sage words that i shall try to emulate. -
Quote:This is true. i had several heroes that did the aura mission and never ran the cape mission because i never saw them as using capes. Not true. Before the cape mission was redone, I took my lvl 40 something to the city rep to get my aura mission. I got 2 options:
Earn a cape, and underneath it said: Get better control of your powers, which is obviously the aura mission. I never had to do the cape mission before my aura. I never have until the cape mission was redone. -
