Quote:You only think you do. <.< (But thanks.I know who ya mean Schis. I stuck up for ya though!
(I don't like him either, but he's fun to mess with)) There are certain kinds of wrong some posters persist in where i know it's pointless to point out they're wrong because they have repeatedly and aggressively made it clear they aren't interested in learning. At all. And yet i can't resist occasionally telling them they're wrong even though it's a waste of my time. Now i won't ignore someone just for being stupid/clueless and obnoxious (more obnoxious than me that is), but when it becomes clear that it's a case of terminal n00bitis and not just being a newb sometimes the only way to avoid facepalm-related headaches is to ignore them.
Yes. Yes it is.
Who else could it be? (Don't answer that.) -

Quote:i think that is a very likely explanation for the impression of Claws having low damage. While people are correct that Claws is fine, although differently-oriented than other sets, I can think of one effect that might have contributed to the OP's impression.
As stated, Claws does many medium-damage attacks (and a lot of them area attacks) rapidly. Solo, it melts enemies evenly.
On a team, it might interact a bit differently with the team dynamics.
Fast-animating Claws area attacks quickly take a big chunk of life from many foes, but kill none of them. Then Broadsword and Martial Arts Scrappers pound one or two or three targets to death with their big hitters -- targets already wounded by the Claws Scrapper. Then the Claws Scrapper nearly finishes off the remaining foes with another AoE. Then the other Scrappers actually finish off several of the foes with their (less effective) AoEs.
End result -- although a lot of the damage from the high-damage attacks from the other Scrappers was "wasted" (doing a 335-point hit to someone the Claws Scrapper left with only 50 life, for example), none of that "wasted" damage appears in the combat results text. And although the Claws Scrapper contributed buckets of damage against many foes that wore them down for anyone to defeat, none of that appears in the spammed text either.
Instead, the text reads:
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
Martial Arts has defeated Freakshow X
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
Martial Arts has defeated Freakshow X
Martial Arts has defeated Freakshow X
Claws has defeated Freakshow X
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
Martial Arts has defeated Freakshow X
Broadsword has defeated Freakshow X
I can see where that could lead to mistaken impressions of the effectiveness of Claws.
Of course the easiest (but not best) way to correct this impression is to survive and keep fighting when the rest of the team wipes from a debuff toggled enemy bringing extra spawns in. If your secondary can handle it Claws achieves very impressive solo kill rates when surrounded by enemies. It happened a couple times on my Claws/SR several months after the Claws and SR revamp and made several teammates reconsider their image of Claws' damage output. -

For the first time since we switched to the new boards I've decided that someone is annoying enough, noisy enough and lacking in signal to the point that ignoring them seems reasonable. Suddenly i've realized that i can't locate the button anymore.
Help. -
Quote:He has a point. Difficult to read and buried in arrogant posturing, but a point anyway.<arrogant, clueless, self-important drivel snipped>
To the OP.Iv had a Claws/FA Scrapper before, and it did plenty of damage for me.Some sets just dont appeal the way others can.So to compair Claws to other sets it can be a bit lacking, but in no way was it weak for me.
I did in fact have the same type of feeling on the Scrapper that you do.The only thing that changed it was the understanding that its high damage character, but the damage doesnt look that way due to its extreemly fast recharges. So I had to get used to the idea was all.
<other stuff snipped>
The biggest comparison for me is Broad Sword and Claws. Broad Sword has several attacks that hit with a nice meaty thunk and throw up big numbers, but it's a bit slower overall and overkill is not uncommon, which is basically wasted damage/endurance. Claws buzzsaws away with faster attacks that cost less and dispatches entire spawns quickly. Individual attacks don't do much damage, though Eviscerate with double-stacked Follow Up isn't bad at all, but Claws puts out more in the same time frame.
Claws' Follow Up works well with Fire, Dark and Electrical Armors' damage auras. Scrapper damage auras are very useful since they have the same damage and end cost over time as a standard single target attack, but are AoEs. -
Quote:Patience.I've been playing this game since Dec 26, 2004....I'm a veteran player who does still love this game... What I wanna know is...if Veteran players who know this game inside and out and knows how things should work and how things don't work can't get into any closed betas, how do they pick who gets in and who doesn't?

Quote:That's just dumb. Now, opening or viewing the files, and especially posting about it is against the rules, but looking at the file names is not, and it's kind of dumb to even suggest that it is.No, even mentioning what you've seen is punishable with a lifetime CO sub - it's really not worth the risk.
Read the rules about .piggs again. Looking at file names is not against the rules. Looking inside them is. -
Scrapper primaries played to 40 or higher: Katana, Dark Melee, Fiery Melee, Spines, Broad Sword, Claws, Martial Arts. i haven't merely compared Claws to other Scrappers, i've compared it to my own Scrappers. The fact that i have three Claws Scrappers and a Claws Brute with two at most of the other primaries means that i don't consider the damage lacking. It could just be that Claws suits my playing style.

Quote:Neither. i'm not the type to drivel around using terms like 'noob' anyway.that an agreement that claws is weak or 'quiet noob stop crying claws is fine'? lol.
Im posting as to what I think personally so I was just wanting to get some input from some other players and see what they think.
Eviscerate just doesnt seem to give the set any sort of power and just seems like an attack you would get midway in other sets, the other arguement is that claws gets ranged attacks, but what good are ranged attacks when they dont do damage? Ok I understand that you cant have damaging ranged attacks on a melee based charecter, but why have them at all? If you want ranged attacks that badly you can get them with 40+ sets and there more useful than the ones in the set too.
Your overall tone is starting to suggest to me that is just another troll thread, but i'll wait on deciding that until i see how it goes for a bit more. -
i... i honestly don't know where to begin with this one.
Billz, anyone?
Edit: (Just to elaborate: My Claws/SR, Claws/Dark and Claws/Elec have not experienced the problems you describe. Also none of them use Hasten, but they do all use Follow Up. Obviously i must be doing something wrong since i have not had the same problems with any of my Claws users.)
Edit the second: It's odd that your post seems almost reasonable considering how inflammatory the thread title is. Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the definition of the word useless? -
Quote:Since Jack had nothing to do with how the marketing of the game was done at that time i fail to see how it's relevant in any case.Say what you like about Jack - and I joined at the end of I6 so missed the worst of his "chatastrophes" so to speak, but at least the game got a lot of marketing then.

Quote:And yet with your shorter-to-the-point-of-nonexistence green bar you continue doing so. At least Pine has one.If I had a green bar as short as yours I wouldnt draw attention to my self.
Quick tip: Don't bring a muffin to to a gun fight, and don't bring your natural acumen to a battle of wits. Sure, it's amusing for a few seconds, but after that it's just pathetic and slightly depressing. -

Quote:Drugs. How exactly are you going to take hibernate AND the elec mastery godmode?
Considering the title is requesting something that i'm pretty sure cannot exist in the current game environment. Being that there is no godmode that will recharge before phase suppression kicks in. (Time limits on phasing and all.) So, drugs.
Of course i'm basing this on the silly assumption that any power keeps you from doing anything useful/offensive while it's active is not a godmode in the videogame/MMO sense. -

Quote:i wanted a set of those, but the last email i got from her said that she'd been hired by WETA and that WETA was planning to start selling a more polished version. That was many months ago and i haven't heard anything since then. Not that it matters since i currently don't have the budget for the old versions, and i don't expect the WETA version to be much cheaper.

Quote:i remember that shortly after the respec trial went live my Force Field Defender became EXTREMELY popular with respec teams. i agree that the current respec trial can be too easy and tedious at times now, but i'm hoping for a return of the difficulty settings by the time GR launches. Until then it should stay fairly easy so that those who really need a respec can get them.I loved the respec trial when it came, it was so ridiculously hard. I recall fighting 4-5 waves at once of +2/+3 mobs. Hilarious, specially on our gimped characters we desperatly wanted to respec. Felt so nice when we finally managed to finish it.
I really hate the new respec, it's WAY too slow between waves, kinda want the old one back.
Quote:I never understood why a trial that was created to give players the option of reselecting powers because they "gimped" their toon was as insane as it was when it first came out. That was one of those times I asked myself "Do the devs actually play this game?"
At that point i'd taken to playing with some very competent players, so it didn't affect me much. The AV buff happened at a time when my main was a D3 who had a -5000% regen debuff and a stacking -50% regen debuff, so it was good timing from my point of view.
There have been a lot of beneficial tweaks and adjustments to the game since it launched, and many of them while Jack was still in charge, so it's not like he approved nothing but bad things, it's just that he seemed determined to make poorly considered changes almost as often as the good changes, and he seemed to have far less understanding of the game mechanics than some of the players.
When i think back to all the hijinks that happened with Emmert at the helm today i'm just happy that the game has come so far since then. No anger, just a bemused shake of the head.
(IIRC the BS/Regen slaughtering +7's was because the code branch they used lacked the purple patch. Not exactly the same as making +7 critters the same as +0, but it does make them much, much easier.) -
Quote:How would that work, exactly?AP and GC should be merged into a single starting zone - as I've mentioned before
Tear down one of the war walls and combine into one IP-sized map?
i'll have to dig up one of my city maps and see how much terrain they'd have to add between the two to make it work. -
Quote:Yeah, that was already posted in this thread, but you know... words are easy to skip over.If it does hit test server today, then it will be in the form of Closed Beta. Not everyone will have access to Closed Beta.
It's not like the game itself requires reading. You can if you want, but it is optional. -
Dual Pistols will only be usable by those who pre-order Going Rogue. Not sure exactly when, but they unlock by the start of double XP.
