I'd like to see a sword/pistol blapper - but that's possibly a whole new AT & power set in its own right
-
I was having a conversation with a friend and we got talking about the characters you can't play that would be a lot of fun - we conceptualised a few, and came up with some interesting combos and twists on old ideas.
I'd love, for example to play a Force Fields/Sonic Shield defender. Almost nothing in the way of attacks but guaranteed a slot on every team
Or an Illusion/Poison controller - that would give a thugs MM a good run for the money I reckon.
I'm not a fan of Kinetics personally (as a player I should add, I'm fine with SB and FS) but a kin/thermal might be interesting too, or maybe something like a domiscrapper - some ranged holds and then melee attacks?
What odd builds would you like to see that can't be played yet? -
Quote:I know, only too well. The Raptor pack does help but even then...This one breaks if you get one of the missions in Talos that are on the islands to the north, unless you use the 'complete this mission' escape to finish it without actually going there. You do cut yourself off from some badges, though.

Quote:WTF are you talking about? how does RMT sales falling through the floor have anything to do with how NC markets this game? did you not understand what i said?
What I'm saying is that the RMTers have tailed off so drastically anyhow that they are no longer a problem.
They are no longer a problem because they ain't making any money.
They ain't making any money because the players online are shrinking month by month - there's nobody around to peddle their wares to. -

Quote:Yeah, it'd be really cool to have a bunch of level 50s running around who are completely inexperienced and clueless about their powersets. I'd definitely love to team with them! *rolleyes*
Those who want to learn the game can do so - and it's no different to the situation we've had until recently with the AE.
There's a good and bad side to this:
The good side is that people can get a 50 without having to grind it out (as some might say... though that's not my opinion) and can access all the content from day one.
The down side is that if they do that they may think "is that all there is?" and quit.
I am not against the original post (which I believe is in the right place because it's not simply a suggestion - note to the snark in immediate response) but I'd offer some further ideas to temper the suggestion:
1) Make it unlockable by achieving at least one 50 on both sides (all 3 soon)
2) The Purchase Price comes with 1,000,000 inf and 500 merits (reflected in the price) to further kill the gold sellers. As the original suggestion stands they would love to be waiting in the wings to pounce on a brand new 50 with a "Buy 50,000,000 inf for only $XXXX - potentially this could open markets for them not shut them out of the game. If people are willing to spend $50.00 on buying "gold" then let NCSoft take that $50 and spending it benefiting the game. Those are the people that will pay for that offer.
I suspect only a minority would actually avail themselves of the offer but what it would do would nail the gold sellers and PLing companies - it removes risk from the buyer and makes it legit and if priced right undercuts the gold sellers
Arguably it could be worthwhile NC offering a store where Inf, Merits, Tickets and Salvage can be bought for hard cash. It's a mature game now and staggering rapidly to its autumn years, it's not gonna be around forever - so they may as well cash in while they can. -

I've tried a couple of "build concepts" but without much real success... like a blapper vs long range - ultimately I've found that a general good build on a toon works much better all ways round, for me at least.

Quote:She's actually being lambasted for creating a solo-centric build and thus not being able to support a team she joined.
/edit before people start shrieking about how awesome they do with snowflake builds: Just pointing out that the OP's complaint wasn't the 'RAR DEATH TO INDIVIDUALS HIVEMIND IS SUPREME' bollocks Shocker insists it was.
I'm not the one talking bollocks here
Quote:It's a freaking TASK FORCE lady! Get your head out of your fundament and use the Dual Builds for a SOLO/PVP version and a TEAM version of your useless defender! -
-
Quote:From what I got out of the original post, it wasn't a question of HAVING the right build. The person in question seemed to have all the powers expected. It's a question of USING the right build, and on this point I too tend to take slight. By all means, build however you like, but if you took the damn powers, then frikkin' use them!
Quote:"Can we please have the team bubbles"
'Sorry, I don't have the small bubbles'
Do an Info on the L50 defender -- Personal Force Field, Dispersion Bubble, Force Bubble. That's it. The two team bubble powers completely absent.
I would agree if you're only using half your powers (unless you're a blaster with no mez protection - in which case you only get to use your tier 1 & 2 powers anyhow) willfully, then we have a different case, and I wouldn't be so quick to defend [sic] that, but in this case it seems far more like a purge on individuality than anything else.

Quote:Part of the 'Having Fun' equation for me equates to 'Not faceplanting all the damn time', because somebody or somebodies cant do their part for the team right.
Sure, but take this specific example: I've done plenty of ITFs where there wasn't even a defender on the team let alone a bubbler.
If you're face planting because someone doesn't have a specific build maybe it's down to how you and the team are playing as a unit, rather than someone not having the right build.
It's the same as this old chestnut: Team runs into room of death gets wiped, all go to hospital, and arrive back at room individually, charge in and die on their own. After repeated applications the scrapper decides they can't do it and the team breaks up.
That kind of thing happens a lot, and it's because people aren't prepared to wait and strategise - if the entire team couldn't take the room together why would anyone think an individual could do it, yet Ive seen it all too often, and I think that's what's happened on this example, or very similar to it.
The OP is trying to pass the general team fail off onto the shoulders of one individual because they are "different" -
Quote:Imagine how empty our servers would be if they did merge lists
I know i for one would jump to a much busier server
Actually I know there are a good number of players on some US servers who'd love a chance to play on Defiant!
The most likely consequence would be a number of servers would have numbers up and down over a period of a couple of weeks and then things would find their natural level. -
Quote:If you're so hung up on getting a bit of cardboard, buy the box online and stick it on your shelf, and buy GR EU digitally. Yeah, you'll have to pay twice, but think of all the moaning you'll save yourselves.
Sheesh. Anyone would think we were living in 1910, not 2010. It's a cardboard box and a bit of plastic, for Pete's sake! And moaning about bandwidth is ludicrous. What, do you guys play on a Babbage Engine? The game's gotta be a max of 10gig. That's an overnight dl even for someone at pathetic download speeds.
Eco.
PS isthat it, then? Its the lack of a box for your shelf that's the big disaster? Only the title of the thread is 'EU shafted AGAIN', so i wondered what there was before.
Ok you can stop now.
It's a lot more than a bit of cardboard and plastic as has been pointed out numerously over a number of threads.
You've taken it upon yourself to attempt to debunk our arguments - walls of text and an unwillingness to appreciate how many of us who actually have EU accounts and play on the EU servers feel.
I respect your right to express your disagreement. It has been noted now be quiet please. -
I'd like to see a whole lot more added to the login screen for a character.
Born date
Primary & Secondary powers
Current Day Job Location & Time til Badge
Patrol XP
SG
Current XP vs XPtnl
there's a whole dataset we could have just clicking on the name giving a significant amount of additonal data - but it's a QoL that might not happen
For those who've pointed out the difficulty of getting a precise date which previously hasn't been captured, either allow the user to input the date manually or simply "unknown" or "pre-xxxxx" date. -
-
The EU forums looked a lot better than that, and worked better than the new ones. Best of both worlds in many ways. Shame it had to end
-
Quote:To be fair, to some extent much of that feeling probably stems more from the rest of the EU playerbase "talking it up" than directly from NCSoft's handling of the market. There's not that much difference in the attention and marketing NCSoft gives CoH in the EU and US CoH markets -- it's more different shades of negligible than anything else -- so I think we should be careful to read too much into it.
I disagree.
It's the wholesale disregard of the EU customer base by NC that's caused this. When you get people who've supported the game for as long as some of us, who are now sick of the total lack of response from NC, it's clear that there's not just a vocal minority who are complaining. There's been a complete sea-change since Brighton was axed. The EU is not important to NC's strategy. If it were, we'd have had some assurances from senior rednames, not simply a CC letting us know our concerns are being pointed out to those who need to know. There's been more than ample time for a senior company rep to allay our concerns but we're met with a wall of silence far more telling than any "marketing speak" you care to think of.
Some of us actually love this game - and it's worrying to see how little love the owners seem to have for it. -

Not really. I believe there's a whole pantheon of characters of that were created for the Korean version of the game. Once that died a death there was still some valuable IP to be utilised.
Kinda like Marvel never knows what to do with Deathlok and Howards the Duck. They're always lurking in the background, waiting to leap out on you but when..?
Foreshadow and Mirror Spirit feature in the comics and the movies so I'm guessing they just needed a bit of a tweak and here they are. -
Squirrel Girl - she's an abberation. She was created as a joke and yet, the moment any serious comicbook gets hold of her, she gets to blow minds. She's one of the few Marvel characters that have seriously (in CoX parlance) solo'd Dr Doom. She went from a parody to somebody that nobody knows quite what to do with because she's crossed that line into serious - something that the original Marvel parody Howard the Duck never achieved.
That's where I'm kinda coming from and a few threads recently have inspired me in this post. I've been known to try some odd stuff in the past. I know I'm not unique, and that stuff that would cause most "sane" players to look at you askance and say "Whut?!?!?" gets some of us, with a penchent for oddities, juices flowing.
These are some of the mad things I've tried so far:
Taking Superspeed as a travel power and never getting your feet wet.
Attempting to get to level 50 without ever being defeated (I've tried that 3 times and never gotten past level 30)
Various Duo/Trio combos for TFs, just to see "if it can be done" - we've got a new 'Trio of Doom' outfit - red side - that looks like it can do somewhere, but of course the proof of the pudding is completing the LGSF, the ITF and the LRSF (and once we've done that, then the Mo versions)
Coin tried a very interesting experiment with (IIRC) Turtleman who was so sluggish he never actually got to level up. That was in the day before SSK and his stirling effort got only so far then stalled because he was so zone restricted as a level 1 toon in a world of highbies. SSK may make it possible (and I also don't recall the exact details of his challenge so I offer appologies if I misconstrue - but regardless, it's a great challenge.)
Personally, I love "odd ball" builds and teams. I like to play as far "outside of the norm" as possible (but still being team friendly) - and given the recent thread by someone ranting about a fellow team member sans expectation I wondered what other mad plans you have considered and implemented?
I'd also love to see suggestions for odd teams - composition and individual AT structure.
Get weird and get out here! -
