I got no high lvl chars on Defiant, if I had I think i would have tried to help out. (Cause I love to hear that new players experiences their first Hamidon Raid ) I know Lawrence did offer his help (and mine) in helping you get a few up, I cannot do much in term of playing, but if you like I can give advices.

You could always get a high level toon on Defiant

Seemed to me GR should have been an expansion for high level players. Of course I understand the lore now- it is still very hard for me to get over that first experience. It's like you get all into the story of Praetoria then boom thrown into Atlas Park with my luggage.

From that point the game felt very odd. There I was level 20 dropped into the middle of the Primal Earth storyline.

I'm a die hard and stuck with the game and it's been fun. But I can easily see where new players who went through my experience would go "WTF just happened?"

Did give me a bit of bad taste though. Seen it before- delve out 20 levels of higher quality content then dropped into lower quality content. Bit of bait and switch I dunno really hard to figure out what they were thinking. If it was designed to bring in new players. Didn't they think it would be confusing as hell once they left Praetoria?
I'd never thought of it from that PoV... but welcome to the game. I guess until GR introduced a whole bunch of new blood to the game most of the audience were existing long term players who knew the lore well (or at least grasped the back story) and GR was aimed at giving them a new leveling experience (there have been many complaints about both sides first 20 levels - but I won't get into that here)

The fact you've stuck around suggests you're enjoying the experience and you can always go through the first 20 levels on a hero and villain for comparison just to see what it's like.

Personally all my new toons inevitably start in Praetoria, primarily because the stories are richer and the challenges are a bit tougher too.

Granted, they both have an eye patch, but only one of them is from Earth Prime. The other one is from Earth remake.
But he reminds him of him!

Alyssa going back to your original point, there's something that's not really been touched on: Whichever destiny you choose for yourself once leaving Praetoria, you are an autonomous person following your own path (within the constraints of the game.)

Whatever you think about any of the signature characters, at no point are you ever serving them. You may find yourself working along side them but you are not a lackey to any of them. You're a hero or villain in your own right.

Thus, from that PoV, it doesn't matter what you think of Statesman Marcus Cole; if you're a hero you're there to protect the people of Paragon regardless of whether or not the big chief is a complete twit or not. Sometimes that can almost be more heroic... subsuming your own ego for the greater good etc.

    Hope that helps.

    Hats

I don't often make characters with hats.

I guess I don't often wear a hat in RL although I do like the style of them and they often serve a purpose... but they are unfashionable and often we are more challenged by social mores than personal desire.

However I have a couple of toons that just simply need hats. Except that the hats I want aren't even there (how about a tall stovepipe?) and even if I get the hat... the hair is junk.

I understand the problem: It's tricky enough in a second game about life that I play a lot and that has many many more anchor points and there are serious technical issues. I appreciate that.

In this world all the "physical" content is dev created and so by definition flexibility is limited. Even in the other aforementioned environment, getting the mix between head size/hair/hat is a balance but that's largely left to the user not the dev.

That said it isn't a huge ask to ask for more. In this game, hats = hair. The physical shape is almost as important as the colour choice. 2 colours for hair, 2 colors for a hair and a hat. Wearing a hat seriously limits the colour of your your hair before you even get on with style.

I want a bent stovepipe hat with long hair. I want the hat to be black with a red feather and I want long grey/blue hair.

As things stand it's impossible which is sad - but I have a sneaking suspicion it would be a relatively easy thing to fix. The obvious answer is an extra anchor point for hat, thus devolving hat from hair but if that is totally undoable with current models then how about every hat with a choice of hair?

This is very much a QoL issue but it's been bugging me increasingly over time. The hat/hair ratio is an increasing issue for me now
  6. hehe if I didn't know better Diggis I'd say you were bumping this so I'm gonna relink to the relevant bit about the competition right here

Well they don't play for the URN but the contest is universally known as "The Ashes" and they play for a Waterford crystal vase replica of the urn given to Ivo Bligh.

Ask any living Aussie or English cricketer what they are playing for and you'll get the same answer

Ooh you may be right there. I'd always been led to believe it was the Ashes - but the first England/Australia match took place in 1877 and the battle for the Ashes was first played in 1882/3 so whichever way you cut it, the America's Cup looks the oldest - although there seem to be only 33 competitions played to date and the Ashes played biennially.
  9. Ok following a few setbacks (server maintenance, flu and xmas celebrations) this kind of went a bit quiet, quite unlike events down under.

I also had a few people request an opportunity to win without having to take part in PVP - fair enough if you're not a PVPer.

So I've put my thinking cap on and shared some ideas with Avatea and here's what we've come up with - obviously now it's celebrating a dramatic and definitive victory down under so here's the details:

The Time: Wednesday 12th Jan 8pm GMT

The Place: Atlas Park, Defiant Server.

The Deal: It's a Cossie Comp - with a theme of Cricket (make of that what you will, some examples above if you care to use them but feel free to be creative.)

The Prize: Four Winners (count 'em: 4) will get a costume power code of their choice that they can apply to their account.

So get your whites on (or go for the one day/T20 look maybe) and get down to Atlas and see if you can win yourself a VERY special Prize

Also, every contestant will also get a temp gold title on that character too courtesy of Avatea, so nobody goes away empty handed
  10. If you include Trials you're going to hit a stumbling block a lot earlier with the Cavern of Transcendence
  11. Really hope you guys enjoyed this! I know I did

One reason that there "may" be less quitters on Defiant is that there are less of us and we tend to know most of our fellow players.
That's partly it I think - also I wouldn't mind betting, given the lower population of Defiant there's a slightly higher average age of the players - and so less emphasis on the next shiny - and I think Mere and I can speak for each other when we consider ourselves to be bloody-minded curmudgeons who ain't gonna get beat by no stupid game!

Last night (well about 2am this morning to be exact) we did a 6 man Kahn TF with a poorly balanced PUG. It went fine right up until Reichsmann himself and that ended up taking us about 90 mins. But it turned out to be fun and there was a genuine sense of achievement and although not everyone enjoyed the TF itself, nobody quit.

That said, people on Defiant have quit, often - but generally that's not because the team cannot defeat the particular mission/AV/TF - but generally they are unable to coordinate sufficiently to be able to do so. (Hamidon is a perfect example - Defiant doesn't seem able to manage it, but Union does.)

A couple of things I've noticed is that there's a kind of mythical believe that only certain teams can achieve certain missions. That's completely wrong and for the most part a well balanced team ofr 3 or 4 can manage almost all the content given the will.

    Fixed that for you.

To be fair I kind of share your pain but I've also been belly laughing at some of the other threads too so I'm on the fence a bit here.

The real problem is that - as several have pointed out - Statesman is the Superheroic Icon in the game and yet many of the people who get to write his story seem to treat him as an uptight arsewipe - thus making him an easy target.

  21. I recently changed from Firefox to Chrome - that made things MUCH better. This forum in particular ran horribly in Firefox and a couple of other sites were clunky and dog slow.

I tried Chrome on the basis of a recommendation and I have noticed a much improved experience. Logouts are fewer (they still do happen though) and pages load much faster - whereas one of my bugbears previously was it would take an age to get from the top to the bottom of a standard page.

I use Fedora as my OS to read the forums so your experience may be different but it may help you to look at that. If you don't want to try Chrome, Opera may be an alternative.
