    HAMI on Defiant

Just gutted I wasn't able to join you all but well done!
  2. I've noticed that very recently my base stopped working - in that none of my TPs, my Vault, my Work Benches etc ... and yet it was working and I've changed nothing.

Anyone shed any insight on this?

Neither of those will help them.

We get the choice of travel powers at level 6, with plenty of other options for traveling out there as well. I don't really see a need to make these inherent. And especially from a business perspective, it doesn't make any sense.

You make two interesting points here: Firstly most subscribers bought the boosters that gave the travel powers. That's one reason that travel powers are getting to be obsolete. Rocket Boards are popular, but they are a one time purchase - so they will still get bought, and should people not want to buy them they get to spend their 80 points on something else.

Also you take 2 travel powers to compliment each other which is cool, so you're actually benefiting a bit but still need to take a 2nd pool - so under my proposal, you'd get Flight or SuperSpeed and still have to take CJ.

Also, I really don't like having to using a temp jet/raptor pack to get more significant vertical movement on my jumpers - if I wanted that, I would pick the Flight pool. (I don't do Super Speed / CJ as a primary way of getting around - I only have Super Speed as a supplemental travel power, because of its stealth aspect.)

And of course, none of that gets into the ability to slot useful things in travel powers, which you can't do with the inherent or temp powers.

Responding more directly to the idea of the OP, I don't think travel powers should to be inherent. We already got a pretty big "gimme" with inherent Fitness, and without an expansion in what powers (and slots) we have (which definitely has some power creep considerations), there's not much left for us to take.

So basically I see the idea of inherent travel powers as a fix for a non-existent problem that risks some negative side effects.

SJ & Flight is much slower than NR and Steam Jump/Jump Pack combined. If you want to reach your target quickly those are far better options - and if you go Steam Jump then Jump Pack by the time Jump Pack's run out, Steam is recharged - so you can go a very long way. More importantly though, I have not suggested or discussed any reduction in slotting - but I accept that might have been ambiguous. But I'm talking about giving one free power, that can be slotted as it is now (if you wanted to)

    1) What if someone hasn't purchased BR, NR, or the Rocketboard? Unless you travel, blue side at least, to the Shard for a Rocket pack, the earliest you can get a Travel power is Level 5. By then you already have access to the four Travel powers anyway.

    2) As it is now with iFitness, deciding on what to take w/some characters is becoming a PITA. Adding another power choice or two is going to make things that much more complicated.

    Thank you for the time...

If the Travel Power system became inherent as SteelClaw suggested you get what you want at level 2 and so your argument becomes academic

We've already covered the point that there is a requirement for additional pools, but that's arguably already necessary. My proposal won't necessarily make things more difficult, especially if only one power out of a potential 5 is made inherent

However, I think the bigger issue is that the pool power system is largely outdated. There are few options and even less that are viable/good choices, and if they made travel powers inherent, why not just scrap the entire power pool system all together and make everything inherent. If they were to make any more pool powers inherent they would need to add more pools.

That said, I really think the pool power system is fine as it is currently, there /is/ enough reason to take the powers in your build and that is good enough. Now if they were to add 10 more unique power pools to choose between then maybe there would be enough reason to look at making travel powers inherent so that people would have space in their builds to play with other power pools, but currently there just is not enough reason to make them inherent.

You've not explained why SS+CJ is a good system. The only reason people would largely take that is because of PVP, but who PVPs these days - and since I13 wasn't that changed slightly anyhow?

As for the rest you've confused me. Is the Pool Power system outdated or is it fine? It seems strange that it could be both.

I do agree that if the devs implemented this wihtout adding new pools there could be an issue of choice, but that's a slightly different discussion.

Air Superiority seems (in my experience) to be taken by those who maybe need a handy melee power - I have taken it on a defender once I think and I've experimented with it but I don't think it's a common pick. I'd love to see a pool power of Air Supremacy which could be a PBAoE Knockdown/Stun but that'd need to be higher level. That would fix those pesky Longbow Eagles

I would suggest one of two options.

    1) Make ONE travel power Inherent upon character creation. So, you can pick one of the existing four at creation. This will be greyed out as a taken power when you later go to the Power Pool tables. If you want MORE than that one travel power then you have to spend a slot on it as normal. In any case, the inherent power chosen will count as credit towards later pool powers that require "credit" to choose.

    2) Make the existing travel powers better. All powers to get an increase in maximum travel speed so three slotting them will actually accomplish something at higher levels. Powers like Super Speed and Super Jump will get a "Forgiveness Field" that prevents the character from getting hooked/stopped by environmental objects like bushes, raised sidewalks, slight roof overhangs, etc. Teleport will get an automatic Hover aspect to it that merely suspends you in mid-air (no defense buff, etc) so long as you don't attempt to move or use another power. The second you try to do either, you will drop like a rock. Basically, make the existing travel powers so much better than the existing temp powers that you're willing to spend a point on them.

Your first point is effectively my argument but you said it better. Fully agree with your 2nd point. Travel powers as are, are mostly pants especially in comparison to Rocket Board. Why would I waste a valuable slot for a junk power when 80 points gets me a power I can travel the entire game with from level 2, forever, on all my characters?
  8. It's broken for me but not a huge problem.
  9. Tetris, the MMO

    You play the square
  10. I've been thinking about this for a while - it first occurred to me when we had Ninja Run... but since the addition of Beast Run, the Steam Punk jet pack, the Jump Pack from the GVE edition, the Rocket Board etc... most of the travel powers are almost obsolete.

In fact there's an argument to be made that Fly, Super Jump, Teleport and Superspeed are now redundant and the only reason to take them is for character/RP reasons. If you wish to get around Paragon, the Rogue Isles, Praetoria, then the other options are in many ways better. You can, for example, get across most zones in game using Ninja/Beast Run, and the two jump packs. It makes SJ seem pathetic in comparison.

Even without Premium Membership, there are plenty of temp travel powers available, so this can't be considered game breaking. How long does it take to get a jet pack from a bank mish?

This leads to a secondary issue: The powers we considered "pre-requesites" not so long ago, Combat Jumping, Hasten, Hover, Recall Friend, are now way more important than their later counterparts.

I appreciate there's been a recent addition of a 5th tier power but frankly I've not had occasion or requirement to use a single one of them so I'm not totally convinced they add value, but I guess some of you may well find them very useful.

I'm not sure which of the "early" powers are most used, but if I had to guess, it would be
    1. Hasten
    2. Combat Jump
    3. Hover
    4. Teleport Other
but that's largely speculative based on my own experience, and it seems to me that it woudln't be game breaking if we chose one of those (plus the others non-travlel pool options, Flurry, Teleport Foe, Jump Kick and Air Superiority) at level 4 and then at maybe 6 or 7 got the travelling counterpart as an inherent.

There's a difficulty of course, because the 5th Tier travel power has a pre-req of 2 of that pool already but that's a relatively simple solution:

Chose your Tier 1 or 2 depending on which you'd prefer, get your T3 as an inherent, then if you so wish choose any others you want to fit your theme and if you choose another from the pool, you open up the T5.

And while we're at it, could we do anything about Team Teleport and Air Supremacy?

I'm mostly thinking out loud here - but I can't see any disadvantage to gameplay or the player experience. The biggest disadvantage I can see is that this would increase the need for a new pool power set, non-travel related, but that's another story I guess.

I kind of see where you're coming from... in the "direction" you say... but I think we've seen this kind of thing since I've been in the game. It's not necessarily pets per se, but there have been all kinds of tweaks to make the journey from level 1 to 50 a touch easier. That's happened every time a hindrance gets nerfed, or we get a boost.

What I would say is that there's enough content and character slots that an easy ride to 50 isn't an issue - and stuff that we don't see as "easy win" is probably more beneficial. The Rocket Board and the Vet Reward Weapons (Sands of Mu, Nemesis staff etc) all have a bigger impact.
  12. Just adding my thanks also to Tony and the Titan team for their concern and hard work
  13. It's a nice to have, but clearly very difficult for the Devs to release that kind of info - if they don't deliver then they get hanged for it.

Maybe some kind of compromise would be a "Devs Wish List" where they can say they are looking at but not guaranteeing stuff, and projected possible delivery time, without it being even close to binding.

  15. I used to pay to play the game and then I bought almost all the boosters.

Now I pay to play and buy a few points and get a lot more flexibility. I'm spending the same but I get more.

    Where's the issue?
  16. I see where you're coming from but I disagree.

The whole incarnate thing, love or hate it, is building up to a huge cataclysm. If you need a huge team to beat everyone then get to Cole and solo him it cheapens the entire effort. Why the hell is he the leader when he's such a wimp?

He needs to be mega-tough and a b'stard to take down. It absolutely should not be easy! This guy is a nasty, double dealing git that will stop at nothing to maintain his power base and has taken it on himself to decide the fate of his people - and is backed up by some nasty lieutenants.

To get to that stage then solo him would cheapen it.

Yes, it needs to be very very dramatic. Maybe even a dreadful pact with Hamidon: "Take Cole, and I will let you live. But come for me and I will destroy all your kind!" may be a nasty kinda double cross that allows the Devs to pick up the Incarnate system at a later stage.

Personally I just want to get the whole Incarnate thing out the way and move on to some fun. But solo isn't gonna make it fun, it's gonna make it cheap.

    Ow my brain!!!

I'm loving the whole brain/jar thing.

I wanted to add some potential additions to it that just might make it even more uber than it already is.

    • Crayola Oblongata. A Wax Crayon
    • Mmmm Brainz: A spoon embedded in grey matter
    • He's not the Messiah!: He's a very naughty brain (a gourd of course)
    • Chopsticks: For when the spoon breaks
    • Friday Night: fish & chips (in newspaper of course) [Chips are big chunky bits of potato deep fried. Just so you know.]
    • Saturday Afternoon: A football. The kind you kick.
    • Eton: A rugby ball. Like an American Football but you eschew padding.
    • Creased: Howzat?!?!?! Middle stump knocked back
    • Globe: Mother Earth spinning through the firmament
    • Strike: Bowling ball (with pool balls for eyes)
    • Aquarium: Guppies swimming about
    • After Hours: a very large scotch, on ice
    • Dirty: A huge Martini (with THREE olives)
    • Clueless: A lead pipe and pot of mustard
    • Best Head Yet!: A Jack Kirby portrait of Galactus
    • Library: An Orang-Utang reading a novel
    • United Notion: Various in game iconic symbols rotating within the bubble
    • Datastream: numbers and figures descending within the bowl
    • Knocked Out: just a vaguely white aura, wasted.
Those are a few of my ideas. I hope you can offer your own

NCSoft's payment backend is a very good description. It's a backend that treats deposits as odorous and unwanted and somewhat inaccessible.

Despite NCSoft, Paragon Studios are making a good fist of things.

I may have mixed some metaphors. Sorry if you've got inhuman acts involving cows in your mind now

Because they don't have any investment in the game so if they find it difficult they will quit and never come back!

Make it easy for them to spend their money.
  20. I'm liking how the cossie creator got updated but it needs finishing and the bugs fixing.

Personally, I find that I'm lucky if I manage to create one standout cossie in ten. Part of the problem of altitis is that we have something in the region of 840 costume slots before we need to buy one.

Not every cossie is gonna be good.

    Also, the randomizer sucks
  21. Scarlet Shocker

    So I tried...

if you want good pic editing software - go for GIMP. It's completely free and almost as versatile as Photoshop.

Not sure it includes spare feet if you ever need them.

I can't recall the movie it was so long ago since I seen it but I seem to recall thinking it's effectivel the same disguise as the Invisible Man wore in H.G. Well's novel.
  22. I'd suggest one thing you might want to consider is how much support you want to give.

If you're intending to team a lot and want something that buffs friends and debuffs foes, /Thermal is an excellent (but often overlooked) choice.

If you want something that's a bit of a jack of all trades but with few buffs for your team, but a fun set then Trick Arrow is an excellent secondary too, but you'll need to find some way to ignite your Oil Slick Arrow, so fire or electric powers are probably a must at that stage. The good news with that however is you can usually get them in your Epic pool.

If you like the idea of being a god of chaos you could go Grav/Storm and just throw stuff about (but your tanker won't thank you much )

Mind is a good primary control. There's not much can resist a good mind controller

Earth is one of the best hard control sets and unusually has a couple of good debuffs in it too. I've got an Earth/Thermal at 50 and I managed to duo- or trio all the hero TFs with him. He doesn't do a huge amount of damage but he locks everything down solid so it becomes academic

Have fun and experiment - you may find many things that work for you that fly in the face of conventional wisdom. That's one of the joys of trollers
  23. I'm trying to give the story tellers in this game a break. Here's how I think they see it -

    Quote:
You're a hero/villain. You've risen up from the gutter and carved your name on the world and there's not much that can withstand you. The world is yours for the taking and all the accolades you can imagine are yours.

You really are that powerful that only an insane idiot would mess with you. Oh wait.. we found one. Ok we can produce a real ******* of a villain that doesn't cost much to develop and makes the players feel challenged by forcing them to team up with each other to win. Cheap, cost effective, and the accountants will be pacified.
  24. I think I'm gonna agree with a lot of what Moo said.

The Incarnate stuff just ain't up to scratch and actually in terms of content pales in comparison to older content.

What is worse, the older content isn't played as much because everyone wants the new shiny.

Golden Girl makes the point that we're missing out on story but there are two issues there that I shall try and summarise thusly: A) the story is pants and B) it's over too quick and gets repeated too often to be of interest. Aside from the cut scene of Mother's cleavage it just doesn't pass muster in comparison to what already exists in the game.

BAF and Lambda are run now not because they are good content, but because they are the quickest, most painless way to the REWARD.

I was so happy when GR came out but the rest has just disappointed
