    I need an Archer

I'm a big fan of /Trick Arrow. It's got something for everyone and I've had some great results with a various /TA trollers; Fire/TA, Plant/TA and Mind/TA

They have their strengths and weaknesses, and with the latter two I needed to take some form of igniter APP/PPP to get the best out of Oil Slick Arrow - but there are plenty of choices (personally I found Mu works well)

Of those three, the Mind/TA was potentially the most powerful, but most difficult to play - the best control, but weakest damage - and the Fire/TA was sometimes conflicted, Fire control has a lot of melee attacks and TA by definition is ranged.

Plant/TA is fun, especially with Carrion Creepers and OSA running and plenty of AoE from the Mu, pets and many of the powers of Plant.
  3. I think Elec might be a way to go - the end mitigation is invaluable - that's one of the weaknessess of my scrapper... so some way to resolve that could be good - and I've experienced the God Mode on my blaster so with enough recharge I could potentially get that semi-perma

    Thanks for the feedback
  4. I'm loving my TW scrapper as I've mentioned before but I'm thinking a Brute might give me that extra survivability that scrappers don't quite manage - and though I enjoy my WP/Dark tank, I want to be able to get the best of the TW damage.

The object is high survivability, plus high damage - but also not changing my look too much (hence Stone armour is out - and probably Ice & Dark too) and I'm limited in my experience of melee.

I'm looking at maybe /SR, /EnA, or Regen or maybe Elec Armour - because I've not experienced those (well /SR I have on a War Mace 50 Brute but his DPS is a bit sucky and I cba to rework him)

I'm open to other options if there's a clear case to be made but what do you chaps suggest?

  6. I'm glad to see that Freedom's had a positive effect but to say it's great might not be entirely accurate - given that Freedom launched at the lowest point in that graph.

Motivation for this thread was made when debating someone who wanted there to be more room for their character stories. While I guess I am fine with that.. seriously I dont see the problem in explaining a character with the space given. Its irrelevant anyway since no ones going to read your character story if its a long novel.

    Example:

    GOOD CHARACTER STORY

1:Genectically engineered to be the ultimate destroyer, Coldar is a powerful villain who wields the cold of space..............

2: The Impervious Hard Man is a destructive villain that is completely invulnerable to physical damage and possesses immense strength and endurance. No known substance on Earth can penetrate his skin...................................

3: 8-Ball is evil cause he makes money selling crack to children.......................................... ............ (Actual bio of a former player on Champion)

    BAD CHARACTER STORY

1: When he was 7 Henry enjoyed watching cartoons at his moms house............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..................his parents were killed............................................ .................................................. ...............................he made a costume .................................................. ............................................he became a hero called General Justice........................................... ........................ now he protects the city.

2: I was sick of all the widespread crime in my neighborbood. When I was younger the gangs would harass me and my friends .................................................. ................................................. ...... the toxic waste gave me power .............. ........ .......... I no longer recognized myself in the mirror.......... I killed a gang member not knowning my own strength. ......... I ...blah blah blah. .................YAWN

People dont understand, especially on Virtue, that no one wants to read a novel so if your character isnt summarized quickly in your bio like an Encyclopedia article...its worthless cause no ones going to read pass the first 3 sentences unless it grabs their attention. Sorry Virtue ...

EDIT: Also put spaces in your story for each paragraph. No one wants to read a big block of text.

Nothing you have done here is original

But then again, Stan Lee wasn't exactly breaking new ground, he simply re-imagined old stories for new environments.

Original is very difficult, as the Bard has observed. To me, the trick is not writing a new story, it's telling an interesting story.

  9. Interesting build Local... I also have some Cardiacs made because I built them before the new lot came out... many of the Alphas offer some good troller benefits though. Currently using Vigor

I've gone villain to get the Patron sets but I was going to for Mu - for the synergy of electric with the storm - but I guess there's no synergy with this set so there's no need to go that route either.

GW might also make a nice patron set too.

I find this is a highly survivable build as it stands - so I'm possibly thinking seriously of making a second expensive build to run pets with.

Oh and spinning for Evo - there was a web radio station broadcasting into Atlas on Defiant called Evolution radio and I dj'd there for a bit before branching out into new fields musically. I still spin often but not in game these days - jazz isn't really what works for the gaming community so well ;-)

Having a blast with her. I would recomend you Spring attack, its a nice having more AoE madness. Mobs falls like dominoes!
I hadn't considered that. Good point. I've not taken any travel powers, other thanCJ not even Hasten, but it won't be too much of chore to fix that and I like how you're thinking.

    Budget?

I know yer a long-time player, so I'm assuming you have resources.

Titan Weapons is all about the AOE. Arc of Destruction is AMAZING. TW also likes recharge, both to fuel momentum builders and to get the Buildup clone up as much as possible.

On the Invuln side, you want Invincibility with 3 Cyto's and every other power, EXCEPT Unstoppable. UnS is very skippable on a scrapper. Confront makes a superb place to slot a Taunt set. Taunt sets have among the best set bonuses in the game.

Depending on how tough you wanna be, the fighting pool is optional, as long as you understand that Defensive Sweep is only smashing and melee. If you want to be REALLY tough, take the fighting pool AND defensive sweep.

I strongly recommend the leaping pool: Combat jumping is +defense and a place for a LoTG proc, superleap is solid movement and a place for the Winter's Gift proc.

The body pool is a great choice, especially since the abundance of AOE's gives many places to slot Obliterations, which are fantastic but expensive on Endurance. A lot of AOE's with Obi's means you want as many Endurance powers as possible, all with Performance Shifter procs in them, and as many with End IO as you can manage.

You should have two single target attacks. One of them gets five purples and the -resist proc, the other should get the Scrapper ATO, half regular and half purple.

This will rank among the toughest scrapper builds, and still have more than adequate damage, especially on the AOE front.

    Most of all, have fun!

I'd not thought of a huge budget. Probably under a billion (laughing at how "low" that is these days) but I don't purple out I go for what's best at a reasonable price. I'd deffo thought of an Obi set in Arc of Destruction.. and I already have the fighting pool.

You've rather confirmed my suspicious about Unstoppable. It's very good but the crash is crippline and I'm not sure it's necessary when the planets are in alignment and the Eagle flies west in spring... by which I mean get everything else right and it feels like it should mostly be redundant.

When you say Cytos you mean Hami enhancers?

I'm unclear about ATIOs, may need you to enlighten me there please

I did? erm... I have no recollection of doing that but ok lol
  12. Looks like we now start with 2 costume slots filled and 4 we can earn.... I'm guessing that's so VEATs can keep their original cossie.

Yeps just tested that and we now start with 2 costumes from initial creation. That explains why I thought I'd got 6 slots.

As an aside, I've got 5 slots open and a 6th slot says "Earn in Game" - I've got the halloween cossie... so how do I earn the last one? (that's technically #5)

    TW/Inv

I've just got my TW/Inv to 50 but if you've read my other threads on the subject you'll probably already realise I'm a melee novice and not sure what the best way of building them are. So far, I've found him very End intenstive and so I've taken Body Mastery as a APP, and I've taken the fighting pool for the extra def.

I've really enjoyed it and the end use is the only downside but I'm not sure of what the best features of Inv are.

I've avoided Confront on TW... but got everything else. Big fan of Rend Armour and Whirling Smash is on Auto to follow up the debuff immediately with Momentum - and I've taken all the Inv powers though I got a feeling some are skippable.

I'm only SO'd and I don't think at this stage it's a build that can cope with too much recharge - I've avoided hasten. Might be nice to get a travel power this time though.

I'm not so much asking for builds as more advice about principles and generalities... but if you want to throw example builds up I'll be very happy to compare and contrast.

    Cheers all
  17. I'd never really intended to make this character. I needed to make a toon to represent me back in the days when I first started spinning for Evo on Defiant and I just needed something a bit cool with a few showy effects. I hadn't yet got a single lvl 50 (it took longer in those days of course) and I'd only got a handful of characters.

This character would be slightly different though - the look had to be cool rather than the powers and I finally opted, almost at random, for a controller, and then chose two power sets with absolutely no synergy nor logic. I didn't set out to create it that way... it kind of just happened.

But I stopped just using it to DJ and I started playing it a bit, and liking it... it was squishy as hell and not very flexible but it turned out to be a lot of fun and he levelled far more quickly than Scarlet Shocker did (less debt of course ) and had great effects and abilities to throw stuff about - so even if the graphical effects weren't there, the visuals of an NPC hurtling across a room in an aeronautical display of extreme rag doll was ultimately highly pleasing.

But pleasing as he was - Riffster often got put on a shelf whist new shinies were pursued, and admittedly spent a good two or three years languishing with an SO'd build and not much love lavished on him. But about 9 months ago he got taken out, dusted down - If memory serves, it was to do an LRSF (he'd done enough to go vigilante then) and a troller with his unique talents had been requested.

The LRSF in question worked stunningly well and the collegiate approbation struck a chord. He got a polish of a respec, some IO sets, and then the jolly old Incarnate route beckoned.

Since then, we've not looked back and he's now quite tasty even solo - he can take on most stuff I throw at him with a raised difficulty level, despite the fact he doesn't so much do DPS as DPM. His capacity to incapacitate and keep anything nasty at greater than arms reach is generally ample mitigation for those who bear him any level of emnity.

What's surprising is maybe the way he's grown into something that has become in its own way stunningly efficient. We're not talking the damage of a fire/rad/kin uberteam but there's some pretty good defence and a good mix of hard and soft control - and it's different. I don't think I've ever teamed or even seen another - so feel free to roll your own and see what you make of it.

Note that activating a power and emote in the same macro or bind doesn't always work, animation-wise. The power may prevent the emote animation from playing, in which case it would look like you have just used a regular costume change, rather than a CC emote.

ok thanks. I've noticed that I'm not getting the correct costume slot to work. Everything else seems to work fine but it's not the first costume that is activating, it's the 2nd from left on the top row.

I'd presumed it was the $$cce 1 that determines the slot, and I've checked the macro. If that is not correct, what selects it? If it is, what's making it go wrong?

You can also use "group", "broadcast" or any other chanelname instead of "local". And don't forget the quotes - binds with $$ in them break if you forget the quotes when creating them.

Thanks. I intend to make two, to switch between them: "ACTIVATE: TITAN MODE!!!!" and then "Titan Mode: Deactivated." - he changes size between the two outfits but they are fundamentally the same.

A strange question: Would it be possible to add a way to make Unstoppable run when I do that? I have it in mind that it's not possible but it would be great

Thanks. It's felt like a real landmark. I guess scrapper was the only AT I've not gotten to 50 now (excluding a Widow and a PB) and I'd always struggled with melee toons until recently... my Brute was a real effort to get there .

But I'm liking this and making more so something's gone right
  22. I've been struggling with a cossie change macro for Titanothere - I want to be able to click the button in my tray, say something, and then change costume with with an emote.

Sadly I'm pretty crap with binds and my search fu is weak so any help would be very welcome

    Thanks in advance

  24. I think I felt a pang the first time I did it but I've done it too many times to worry now. I have "Signature characters" and level 50s

If they ain't one of my own signature characters, in other words if they don't speak to me on some level and grab my imagination, they might find themselves cannibalised and turned into inf
