TOO MANY STICKIES!!!!!!!
There are way too many stickied threads in all fora. Many of them are out of date and no longer relevant and some I think are just way out of place but clearly somebody's got a bit of a thumb tack fetish going on.
It's often taking me half a page to scroll past them to see if there's any new and relevant content on a board, which just makes it painful.
Time for a clearout please! -
I started off thinking this is a Good Idea!
I usually do the tutorial on new toons even after 40+ months. The Isolator's a pretty good way of guaging whether or not I will like the concept, but often cossies don't look the same in game as they do in creator. With I16 I imagine that'll be even more relevant, and it can often take longer to go back to the creator and remake the toon than it can to tweak the cossie.
Maybe it needs a Tailor and each new toon gets a "Free Costume Token" on creation... so it's optional but you can benefit from it at a later stage.
But as I wrote this it occurred to me that you can get to the tailor in Pocket D very quick and at low level paying for a change isn't expensive. That's equally accessible from both heroes and villains, so it could be argued that this isn't huge benefit.
Which means I've just wasted a lot of letters saying "I'm ambivalent" -
War Witch is on record saying that this is a custom engine and has yet to be used to full capacity - but that the Devs are (rightly IMHO) very careful not to ramp things up so that more people can enjoy the game rather than less.
That leads me to believe that things like fingers etc are possible but there's a rendering cost to enable that, and also would require new character models - all of which could be very time consuming and difficult.
With CO landing imminently, if there are graphical issues there (I've not played it, so can't say - and I'm running a 9800GT anyhow) then players new to the superhero MMO will turn to CoX if it gives a better graphical performance.
Remember that the most popular games don't tend to be those with the best graphics but the best game play - so a minor tweak is all. -

Bindweed; yeah I was begnning to worry a few times yesterday but it came good in the end.
Carnifax: spot on mate.
Very happy today. Nip tuck series - with the exception of Headingley but the end of the Cardiff test, Freddie's fi'for at Lords, and Broad coming good when it counted proved too much for the Aussies
But as a series well played both sides and impossible to call to the very end. -

I'd say I would miss you... but I'm slotting for Acc as we speak
Thanks for all the help and support you've given over the years mumsie -

Quote:Your analogy is specious. To everyone, yes, there are some problems, and they stem from 3 sources:
- Actual bugs with the boards - like the fact that the signature image option is there but doesn't actually work and you have to "hack" it by putting the picture in your normal signature text. Just as an example, but there ARE bugs that SHOULD be worked on.
- Change. This IS a different forum, and as such, some things WILL be different from the way that you're used to, which brings me to...
- People's fear of or resistance to change. Yes, MOST people have at least a resistance to change. But you do have to change your habits to a certain degree to meet the situation.
The fora were merged to make life easier for all concerned. It's not about "newness" or resistance to change. It's about a bad implementation of this particular software.
I've said already I am pretty familiar with vBulletin and other forms of forum software - I run a number myself, and whilst most forums have their own way of doing things, this is clunky, difficult and has not enhanced the gaming experience. -

I heartily concur with the OP and many of the other points. I use other fora driven by vBulletin and none of them are as big a dogpile as this.
The implementation of these forums has gone badly badly wrong - technically, stylistically and in terms of content organisation. Finding relevant information is next to impossible.
The claimed advantage of bringing the "community" together is laudable but frankly fails -
Welcome to the game.
I would echo that the journey in CoH is often as much fun as the destination - but I'd also add that I do still enjoy my 50s as well as levelling new toons.
Some people have suggested (with varying degrees of sarcasm) ways to get there, but I'd suggest that you join a large, active SG with a few toons and get into regular teams. Explore the game and all of its content. Steer clear of the MA - it has the CoX equivalent of swine flu - and get out and exploring the real content of the game -
Just Defiant. That will change if we get equal access to all servers
-
I just wanna know how the OP worked out it took 854 hours to get to 50
OCD? -
Clearly the move from the old forum to the new has proven to be less smooth than many would hope.
What we have now - whilst potentially offering many more features - seems extremely clunky, looks awful and isn't very secure by all accounts.
There are a number of threads with good info relating to the forum - notably Philotic Knight's post but these are not contained in a readily accessible area. You have to endure the vagaries of the Search function to get anywhere and we all know how haphazard that can be.
What would cure this would be a Forum Discussion and Suggestion category, where all posts relating to the forums rather than the game could be posted - therefore hints, tips, suggestions and related discussion could be self-contained and readily accessible.
I can see the mods having a degree of antipathy towards this, since it would also allow people to post erudite and helpful discussion topics along the lines of "The Forums are [Censored]" and "Teh vBulletin is teh suxxors" but the fact they are all in the right place actually means they can be weeded out more readily if necessary. -

I don't seem to be experiencing this but I'm using Forefox 3.0.1 on Ubuntu
