    I think you'll find that's Rob Liefield.

Also it's clear who Tyrant actually is:

  3. Yeah I agree the Vanguard costume is a great example about how not to offer earnnable cossie options, although I do understand the logic behind it - make the players actually play the arcs.

Clearly the Dev's learned from this, and with the "Roman" costume outfit they got it right - complete the TF, get the cossie. (Why they have not retroactively done that for LGTF I don't know.)

Personally I like the fact that some cossie options need to be earned - that's kind of heroic/villainous in its own right, a right of passage maybe - but Vanguard's just too much.

Let's hope (and I believe the Dev's will take this on board) that GR will offer much more scope.

    It's a lifestyle!

    Isn't it?
  5. there is a walk anim in game already it's just never been implemented. I'd like to see it in. (I believe it's meant as an emote however - which kind of defeatsthe object. a Proper walk would be great)

    Other than that good

He's no longer my Global Name (he was but because of a bug thats now @Galaxy Walker and has been for a couple of years)

BUT he is my Forum Handle

He leveled to 50 healing others during a zombie invasion, I'd say fighting a zombie invasion, but as a Dark/Empath he doesn't really do the fighting thing.

He holds a special place in my Heart because he was the Alt I saw the city with. Down at level 9 with stealth I toured the different parts of the city I could with him. Seeing Talos, IP, Bricks, FF and PI for the first time over three years ago.

He was the first alt (of mine) to get an exploration badge (Solace, behind the "TO" store ion Skyway) and became my first badging alt after I found out about Vidiotmaps.

I have picture of him with the holiday jet pack with it's trail of snow flakes high about steel a dark hero in the dark night.

He's had fly, TP, SS and now as with most of my alts has SJ (hey I like it the most )

Normally I don't play my 50s, they kind of go into retirement to occasionally come out for a mothership raid or to change day job locations, but Heart is different he'll be appearing from time to time to get badges (he only has about 280 of them so many to go).

    So Who is Heart Attack?
He's a lump of living Black Rock, one day he awoke in Paragon City with a desire to help. He has helped and is still helping, but he still wonders "where am I from", "Who am I" and "How did I get to Paragon City". Perhaps one day he'll find out.

Finally A big HI to Scarlet Shocker who I bumped into last night just after he'd hit 50, it was nice to see another forumette.

Oh well off to my Profile to add him to my 50s list

hey many congrats and hi back (but If fixed your typo ;-) )

It was great to team with you finally!
  7. Damn I was almost looking forward to CoHpr0n
  8. Can't disagree more strongly with the OP. This is a lot of fun, and it's reinvigorated the game for me.

I love these global events - I'd gladly vote for me.

Just remember they are totally optional. If you don't like them you can obviously skip them by doing instanced missions or keeping an eye out for where the events are happening and finding yourself alternate zones.
  9. I've noticed a couple of times that the Mission TP has gone horribly horribly wrong. Like, instead of taking me from Cap to Mercy, it took me to Cimerora, for example.

I have already bugged this but be warned!

Bit tricky. It won't be BST by this Sunday. So do you mean 6pm GMT or 7pm BST?
  11. I'd be well up for this if it's still going
  12. I'm really enjoying the participation and the fun of this event.

    Good stuff!!!!

Ok not sure why it's hanging. I've got a different app (Blue Mars) that's hanging too. That's probably a question for the Wine fora then
  14. Very good.

Now, why haven't you gotten Bob Burden and Neil Gaiman writing arcs too? Hey? Well? We're waiting!!!!
  15. Good guide - clear and concise.

Clearly this is NOT an exploit or against the rules. The Devs knew there would be people who would maximise the markets to their own advantage. That's what any free market is all about. It's the basic principle of capitalism = supply and demand.

If you're feeling grumbly about it either ignore it, or use it to your own advantage.
  16. I've been noticing a lot of crashing and game freezes since the latest patch. I've looked for other reports here, can't see any but it's happening very frequently. (This is in Win XP for those who will point to my other thread)

It's only happened since the patch and there's nothing changed at my end. Anyone else experiencing this?

They really should just up and merge the server list...infact I think this 'global maintenance' trial is probably the first step in that, when they see the game survives on one global maintenance a week (WoW servers survive on one maintenance a week...not sure why it wouldn't work here) they'll probably begin merging the server lists.

    It is to be hoped.

I've been experiencing awful lag too, but one thing that I think is telling here is the total lack of response to the central issue.

My guess is there's a beancounter somewhere saying "We can't do anything, those accounts are paying for the server" or something similar.

They'll be fine. Why else do you think the city would be so cavalier about handing out licenses to everyone with a pair of spandex? Why do you think the common thugs on the street are so brazen about their crimes? There's very little fear of actual death.
I'm sure Cyrus Oliver Thompson will be remarkably relieved to read this.

    Not that I can see.

Did you download the client from scratch or copy across from an existing install? I dl'd from scratch and used Ubuntu's archive manager to unpack the zip

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 myself recently (newbie linuxer) and I have been smoothly using Wine with some work related applications. I was wondering if it would be easy to run CoX under Wine, and it seems easy based on your guide. I have a few newbie questions though.

    1) Using the updater to install the game under Wine as you do, do you need to download the entire client to the Wine “fake” C:\ partition? Or can you just copy & paste the CoX folder from a Windows installation to the Wine “fake” C:\ partition and then tell the updater which folder CoX is it?

    2) I am in Windows now, so I can’t check… When talking about audio, you say you use Pulse Audio instead of Alsa, are they Wine config options or Ubuntu preferences?

    Thanks in advance!

    @Arda

Simply download the client as you would in Windows and then run it as you would normally in windows. Wine automatically manages to recognise it - at least it does in my build.

As for the Pulse/Alsa thing, that's far better dealt with in the official Ubuntu forums than here - but I'll say that I am only using Pulse and although there are some minor grizzles, sound is perfectly acceptable. My main reason for the warning is that since Heron (8.04) Ubuntu is transitioning away from Alsa - and there are issues when both are installed on your machine but your build may vary.

As for Je_saist point re Cedega, I can only say that Wine is free, available in the Synaptic Package manager and it works. I've not use Cedega myself so I won't presume to add anything further.
  21. Here's a rough guide to running CoX in the Jaunty Ubuntu Distro of Linux.

First, the caveat: Your results may vary depending on your hardware configuration and if you're running different distros you might get a variance.

In Jaunty I found it incredibly easy to get CoH running from scratch.

First open your Synaptic Package Manager and search for "WINE" (Wine Is Not an Emulator) and install it and any necessary dependencies. This is pretty automated - but if you have troubles you can always get Wine from www.winehq.com

You'll notice in your Applications Menu you now have Wine - nothing much in there except for Notepad.

Once Wine is installed download the City of Heroes game from your account management page - remember to get the right version for you, depending on locale. You'll get the Exe file (I saved to my desktop) and simply run it as you would in Windows.

Locate your relevant CoHUpdater and open it as you would normally do in Windows and you're away!

A word of warning re sound: I have had no problems with CoH sound but I've made sure I've used all Pulse Audio and removed Alsa totally. Not everyone recommends this althought Ubuntu is moving to Pulse. There are various schools of thought on that so you may find your sound to be less responsive. Personally I would recommend going one route or the other, Pulse OR Alsa - and removing the one you're not using but be aware if you're using different versions of Ubuntu (Heron for example) you may find sound is a bit flaky.

    Happy gaming

Really, Paragon/NCSoft gets yelled at for lack of marketing, and then when they do market, they get yelled at.

    On a different note:

    "Algonquin Hate Table"

    That's awesome!

An official announce saying "Look here for some exciting game news" in the forum would have gone a long way to resolving all those issues.

Yes, you are correct in that a news item in a source not reserved totally for CoH players is good strategy but given how little extra it would give the guys who are actually paying real money right now to play the game it might not have been a bad plan to give them a heads up right?

Marketing's a double edged sword sometimes.

  25. So is that like when he came to Pocket D on the 5th Anniversary and was full of "stuff I can't talk about now" followed by a huge blurb when GR was announced prematurely?
