And Spines, thing to keep in mind about Archery, is that the Tier 9 is a 4 second animating power, and it is all Lethal. It's incredibly good, but IMHO, the Rad/Fire will be outdamaging it.
You should try putting Combustion back in, it's only 10-20 damage less than FSC due to its guaranteed 10 ticks of DoT and it's still possible to kite with it. As for Electron Haze, it's incredibly strong but I dropped it just because of its narrow cone.

I slot about +66% accuracy into my Irradiate and the rest of my AoE's are only slotted for +33% accuracy, it opens up extra slots for end-reduction and recharge. I kind of rely on Irradiate's -21% defense and Neutron Bomb's -14% defense for the rest of my AoE's to hit, did you do the same thing?

Also is that game get better as you progress in lvl or does it stay about the same thru out the whole game?
Actually, this game has a ton of stuff that you can do together with other players.

First off, I would suggest finding an Super Group(SG) or a Villain Group(VG), depending on if you're playing on the good side or the bad side. SG's are good in that you're sure to have some veteran players in there to show you the ropes. They're also good in that you'll be able to have several people right at your fingertips to chat with or group with, so you wont have to find random people to team with.

    As for group activities:

    > Giant Monsters(GM's) can be found in several different zones. You'll find out that players will usually gather up several groups to take these down.

    > Hamidon is one of the "epic" monsters in the game. This giant blob will take several groups to take down, 30+ people, and the process takes quite awhile as well. You also get a Hami-Origin Enhancement, which enhances more than one aspect of your powers, such *** Accuracy AND Damage from just one enhancement. These used to be the sh*t but they're not so awesome anymore since Invention Origin Enhancements came out.

    > Task Forces (TF's) are pretty much a long series of missions that you team up with other people to do. Once you start a TF, you cannot do any other missions until that TF is finished. You can log off in a TF and still be on the team when you log back on; this is useful in that if a TF takes too long, the group can just log off and continue on at another time. You can always leave a TF though.

    > Probably some other things I've forgotten...

    > Being in an SG allows you to raid other people's Bases. I'm not sure if base raid is fixed yet or not...I remember them being disabled sometimes back. Base Raids were definitely fun, teamwork and camaraderie brings a lot to the game.

Anyhow, try to find a good SG/VG first is what I'd recommend for a new player.

    Rad/Fire

Just thought I'd post how amazing my journey has been on my Rad/Fire Blaster that I've built mainly for AoE's.

Currently sitting at level 27 and I must say it's been the funnest toon I've ever had the pleasure to play with. I've face-planted a few times on teams, just because I jumped in and dropped Irradiate + Combustion before our Tanker taunted.

Now that I've just gotten Neutron Bomb at 26, there's even a higher chance of me face-planting :]. Nonetheless, it's a really fun toon to play just because I'm putting out the most dps on all the teams that I've been on AND the fast DoT from Irradiate as well as Fire's AoE ensure that you'll usually get the last hit in (which is great since your name is all over the Combat Log :P).

Just out of curiosity, would an Archery Blaster with its Tier9 power be putting out more dps on average within one mission? I know RoA can be up pretty often too, so maybe?

Welcome! Like StarGeek said Freedom and Virtue are the two most populated servers right now.

I'd recommend making and effort to team up with other people, since it'd be more fun that way and you can learn faster that way!
  7. In short, there is no good reason to pick Defender over a Controller.

    AoE lawnmowers

Radiation/Fire Blaster for early and guaranteed AoE on Hero side.
Fire/Dark Corruptor or Fire/Kin Corruptor on Villain side.

Archery with its tier9 is of course epic AoE.

I like to use tp'ing from one end of IP to the other (longest distance) as a guide for useage and remaining end.

    Thanks for any replies.

If you have 3 slots to spare, 2 end-reduction and 1 range would yield better result than 3 end-reduction alone. Reason being that the 3rd end-reduction enhancement wont reduce the endurance cost that much due to diminishing returns and ED.

That 1 range enhancement, however, will allow you to teleport quite a bit further, meaning that you wont be using Teleport as many times which will result in less endurance usage.

Personally, I have slotted my Teleport with 2 end-reduction and 2 range enhancements and it's perfect.

Also, Teleport IS the fastest travel power, with exception to a teammate just teleporting you to their location :P.

You may want to use this bind to make things easier:
    /bind lshift+lbutton "powexecname teleport"
This way, you can just hold your left shift key and left-click your mouse whenever you want to teleport.

It doesn't ACTUALLY change the activation time, though the animation will trick many people into believing it should.
Yes, I do notice a slight delay when I try to chain several attacks from MA together, like there's a split second between animations where my toon isn't doing anything because even though the animation is finished, it still has to wait for the actual attack duration to finish.

Even though the time it takes for the entire power to finish activating is still the same, isn't the time from clicking the power icon to actually registering the hit a bit shorter? If so, wouldn't this mean that people using the newer animation be able to land their hits first?

About time you answered! I got so many views and no answers, I thought you'd given up on me :[
  12. Kind of curious here. The new animations for Martial Arts and Super Strength are pretty cool, especially since it "seems" like the animations are a bit faster. However, is it really faster? By faster, I mean from clicking the power icon to actually registering the hit. I'm sure it can't be faster or that would be pretty unbalanced...but I can't help it, it just "feels" faster for some reasons.

...purely to maximize the basic enhancement bonuses to that power with little or no regard for set bonuses.?
Personally, I don't agree with the "with little or no regard for set bonuses" part. If this is the case, then what would you call slotting in such a way that aims to maximize basic enhancement bonuses AND maximizes set bonuses as well?

In my opinion, Franken-slotting is just slotting a mixture of different SO's, Hami's and IO's to maximize...well...pretty much every aspects of your powers.

Edit: And yes I do recommend slotting in such a manner since it's usually better than just going for an entire set of IO's in every single powers, since that last couple bonuses are usually worthless...unless you're wanting that +defense which is usually the last bonus in a set.

Or if someone could tell me how to run the numbers myself, I'd appreciate it greatly.

    Thanks.
Archery is great because of its tier 9, but it really wont be that awesome until you actually get there. I'd say give Radiation Blast a try, I have a Rad/Fire Blaster and I am still enjoying it.

Only thing with Radiation is that you have to get pretty close and even in melee range in order to effectively use all your AoE's. However, I don't see this to be a problem since you're /MM anyhow and you're going to have to get into melee for Drain Psyche's epic buff/debuff and Psychic Shockwave :]

    I actually don't

I'm thinking Ice Patch + Ignite may be fun though. Actually, I think Ice Patch would be a perfect power for me to use before throwing down Ignite, Flamethrower and Full Auto. Sure makes things a lot safer :]

Yea, that would be challenging, but it's not really the kind of challenge I'm looking for. Just trying to find a Blaster combination that may make things more challenging. I don't really want to skip my entire primary and secondary and I don't really want to go from 1-50 without any enhancements lol. Just specifically looking for a combination that people think are challenging to play in general.

I actually do have an Arch/Fire Blaster at 42. I love Blazing Arrow and the AoE that the set as a whole can put out. I don't think I'll be playing Arch/anything just because Archery is pretty strong in general.

That Psi/Fire does look interesting though...
  20. Can someone give me a gimped combination that I can roll? I'm just so freaking good with a Blaster it's making this game boring. Please don't say AR/Dev since I have one of those and he totally rocks.

    Maybe Energy/Ice or something? I don't know.

Thank you for your kind replies!
  21. What about powers for players? Is it safe to imagine that any smash resistance power is going to have an equal lethal resistance portion to it?
  22. I know that for players, Smash/Lethal resistances usually come together within a single power, but what about NPC's?

For some reason, I can't help but think that critters resist lethal damage a lot more often than they do smashing damage, am I wrong? I'm pretty sure that robots and such resist lethal a lot more than they do smash. Can someone clarify this matter for me? Thanks!

I cant say for certain how end game will look, but from my experience(and I've been eyeing this build for awhile now), you cant lose. The damage aura gives DM/ some much needed AoE goodness, Soul Drain Increases that damage significantly, energize + siphon life? Yea...the synergy is fairly blunt, but Iv'e seen so few of it's kind that I feel honored every time I log in.
I have a DM/ELA as well and it's amazing. Only reason I can think of for its unpopularity is because DM is pretty much all single-target and it's pretty sub-par for PvP. People who likes to PvE will usually go for AoE-heavy sets, which means no DM and people who are PvP-savvy will usually go for single-target heavy sets, but DM doesn't offer high enough burst damage for PvP.

I would recommend DM/ELA just because it's pretty fun and there are tons of endurance-management powers. With Lightning Reflex, you'll have a good chain of attack going and that -tohit debuff will make you pretty invincible...at least toward one opponent at a time. Electric Armor can also reach the defense soft-cap with a little bit of work, so that's a great addition on top of your tohit debuff primary.

Manners? That's the problem I have with most MMoRPGs. Coming home from a day of work just to relax with a game just to find out that there are just as many rules and regulations to follow within the game itself as there are in real life.

What the hell's with all these self-imposed rules and such? I'm not just talking about manners alone, it's the entirety of it all. People saying you can't do this or can't do that. Can human nature not live a day without some sort of law and order?

To me, people who likes to create rules and worship them within a game are people who are failures in real life and are just trying to hold on to as much control as they can over a virtual world.

That being said, I do agree that you should not be performing idiotic actions that actually hinder players from actually playing the game itself.

Edit: I'm not talking about anyone on this thread, just in general.

And even still, there's nothing wrong with saying people should be considerate enough to avoid screwing other people over (they paid for the game and subscription fee, after all, if they want to use it to implore others to reduce lag, that's their prerogative).
I guess you can make a point for the lag issue.
