I think the best solution would be to buy yourself a new computer and give him your current one (assuming you're not having the problems your son is complaining about).

    LOL!

  3. I need to buy my son a new computer, so he can play CoX without lagging, rubberbanding, freezing, crashing and screaming at me because his computer is a "complete piece of garbage, Mom!"

Would any of you be so kind as to recommend a reasonably priced desktop computer that will run CoX decently? I'm not looking for the cream of the crop, but I would like to find something that I'm not going to have a lot of problems with. Building a new rig is waaaay out of my league, so any help identifying a complete set up would be greatly appreciated.

I asked this questions last July or August, but I'm sure stuff has changed since then.

Thanks, all, for your help. You will make a 13 y/o boy very happy, and maybe I'll get a chance to enjoy the game instead of always trying to figure out what's going on with his computer.

I love J-Force because they are going to give me one billion infamy for typing out eighteen words.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good job with reading comprehension there.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe he is trying to trick us!

He thinks that he knows that J knows that we don't know that he knows what we know, so instead of knowing what we know we mistakenly think that he knows what he doesn't know and J knows that the answer is 41.

    Heh. Good story.

And puberty will do things like that. In addition to higher dosage, if you haven't already, consider also more behavioral therapy wherein there is practice in relaxation and focus techniques. If behavioral therapy can do the trick by itself, then it's better than using more meds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I whole heartedly agree with this statement.

    This thread makes me happy.

Seriously- Amid all the anger and whining on these forums, a nice thread about children learning from my favourite game online makes me really happy.

It reminds me of when I began learning from online games.

    It actually started with Runescape.

I was into the whole 'ore' deal and such, figuring out which ores combined into which metal and stuff.

A few years later, in a science class, I seemed to be the only one that knew that copper and tin made bronze. It was a nice feeling.

But yeah, if anyone happens to roll a hero on Virtue, I'd be happy to team with them! My Elec/Elec Blaster could use some burnination. XD

My son's first "real" PC game was Age of Empire. The part I liked the most about that game was that it taught my son that there was more to an epic battle than just the battle. You need supplies, training, troops and everything else that is required in order to succeed in an epic battle. My son loves that game and has taught his grandfather how to play it. Even now, whenever they are able to get together, you can find the two of them linked together battling it out on AoE.
  7. <QR>

I hadn't seen this thread until today. So many great stories here, and I thought I would share one with you.

My 12 y/o son has been playing Co* with me for over two years now. Over this time, he's learned all about enhancements (TOs, DOs, SOs and IOs). Now he's even starting to figure out sets. He got his first purple drop just the other day. Talk about being excited.

He has severe ADHD, and unfortunately, has to take medicine. He's been six years on the same dosage , but since the beginning of the school year he just can't seem to keep out of trouble: talking in class, disrupting the class, play pushing in the hallway, etc. Silly stuff really, but it's been landing him in detention A LOT. So, his doctor reviewed his medication and decided it was time to up the dose a little.

When I was explaining this to my son, he stared out into space for a moment or two and then said, "So this is like when your enhancments go red and you need to upgrade them."

  8. Nice stacking!

You copy the URL from where the picture is being stored online. Select URL in the Instant UBB Code section right below where you insert your message. It will bring up a box...paste the URL and press ok. Then another box will appear where you name the picture.

Seriously! I don't blame Tig for wanting AC. Yesterday morning felt like the bayou in the middle of a heat/sticky wave in DFW. It was better after the rain though.

One thing you need to remember is that some of us spend WAY too much time tinkering with our bases.

I myself have never posted any pics because I could never seem to get myself focused enough to figure out how to use photo bucket. BUT!!! I have recently done that, so I should be posting pics soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, after getting a glimpse last night of your base, you really really need to do this I think everyone on here would love it Roxona!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks, Luna! I need to finish it though...still more things to tinker with. BTW, you should see our base on villains...so completely different. I love it, but Prince Dracula doesn't really care for it cuz it's too way out there for him. I need to finish that one too.

The first thing I need to do is post our pics from the Task Force Commander Event. I have some really great shots of you kicking Clamor's <bleep>!!!!
  11. I think you did a great job, Forbin. One thing you need to remember is that some of us spend WAY too much time tinkering with our bases.

  12. Nice looking base Comic! I can't wait to see more.
  13. Nice job on your base. I definitely like the stacked enhancement bins.
  14. MCG~ Your crypt is awesome, and the trees are going to be a great finishing touch.

Vorac~ Insane! Gives me ideas for an arcane repel ball arena.

    /em sighes

I really need to expand the base some more for all these great ideas!
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    Nice job.
I just found out the other day how tricky it can be to work under items that have already been floated. Had some trees floated, and clicked on one while stacking desks under it for a different level...... arrrrrggghhh!
    *unstack the desks*
    *raise up the floor*
    *restack the desks*
    *refloat the $#@#%!! tree*

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what I understand, if you had moved the floating tree that you accidentally grabbed to the doorway where it cannot be placed and drop it there, it should go back to the spot where it was initially floated.

I haven't had a chance to try it out because I've been busy raising up a new character, but that is what I've read.

    Good luck!
  16. Anyway, thanks for the mod smack for suggesting that they not attack so much.

Having said that, I just rolled a new fire/kin the other day, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Sidney has given me something to think about as I raise this new toon up. I did like the pictures P_P gave. Having something visual to look at can be a useful learning tool as well.

    Have a good day.

Repel ball is usually a bunch of lowbie bubblers with repel. Then you drop a master mind pet in there as the ball and the goal is to bounce the pet through the goal posts. Usually the fields are done on test back when you could get the 35 million.

OMGosh, that's hysterical!!! What a fun idea!

*Runs off to pad the VG some more*
  19. Thanks for the great guide! I wish it had been created earlier. It took me forever to figure out how to get power going in the first base I built last year.

I now co-lead Spririt of Freedom, and have recently redone our base. Here is an example of our layout:

    .......T*TT
    .......T*TT
    .......*..*
    PP..CC..TT
    PP..CC..TT
    ..*...*..*
    EE*MM*WW
    EE..MM..WW

The upper TP room serves only as a throne room at the moment (a joke amongst my friends), until we can afford another 2x2 TP room. (You have know idea how many fights we have had over who gets to sit in that chair! ) We have just now started to run into control issues. We need to place our third bookshelf and maybe a fourth before we can add the third TP room. Of course, we're going to have to have a few bake sales in order to earn enough prestige to cover everything. However, if I sold all the decorations, we'd probably be almost there! But this is our home, and I find it necessary to move the furniture weekly!
  20. <QR>

Oh! You are all sooo busted!! But I have to admit, you have some good tactics!

My hubby bought this game for me for my birthday over a year ago. I thought to myself, "What a stupid present!" Boy, was I ever wrong. Now, I'm a confirmed altaholic, badgaholic, and I'm just now starting to get into villains, PVP and building SG bases. DH and I used to play together all the time, but he has since lost interest and has moved on, while my addiction marches on. I play almost every day, and he can't understand why I still play so much. But then again, he never got to 50, doesn't care for TFs (Dr. Quarterfield broke him), doesn't badge hunt, never got bitten by the alt bug, and never belonged to a good SG.
  21. <QR>

    Thanks for the information!
  22. <QR>

Thank you so much for posting all of this on the forum. I have been tinkering around with our SG base for several months now, and last night after reading all of this yesterday, I FINALLY got the power up and going! I'm soooo excited!!! I can't believe it! I actually crafted our first teleport pad, and all I need is a little more prestige for a room and placement.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
