Elec/Shield/Mu brute.
Nearly softcapped with no work at all, softcapped easily.
Decent resists and +HP for extra survivability.
Shield Charge, Lightning Rod, Up to 3 AoEs in Elec, and up to 3 more in Mu (2 PBAoE, one cone).
Run in to the middle, drop fences, hit build up. By now Against All Odds has buffed you up and you've taken the aplha, so your fury bar is probably half full. Use one of your teleports, finish the group with Thunder Strike, Ball Lightning, Chain Induction, and Fences (or AoE chain of your choice). Move on to next group and repeat, using the other teleport. Yell "BOOM!" and giggle to self repeatedly. -
In your original build, I see Combat Jumping, Weave, and a steadfast Unique, and no other sources of +Def.
Yes, this will stop some incoming damge, but not a heck of a lot. I'd either drop Weave and the Unique, freeing one power pick and saving 5-10 million inf (keep CJ for the Immob protect though), or slot for more defense. -
Quote:From WikipediaVoluntarily installing something does not mean it is not a virus. To say the definition of a computer virus is just a program that copies itself without human involvement is also not entirely true.
The name Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, most rootkits, spyware, dishonest adware, crimeware, and other malicious and unwanted software, including true viruses. So actually, you are both right on that part.
Aside from spreading on its own, a virus usually causes harm to either a computer system's hosted data, functional performance, or networking throughput when they are executed. Some viruses have symptoms noticeable to the computer user, but many are surreptitious.
To the OP, I would not worry about it. As stated before it is an issue with Kaspersky being a bit over protective.
Quote:A computer virus is a computer program that can copy itself and infect a computer without the permission or knowledge of the owner. The term "virus" is also commonly but erroneously used to refer to other types of malware, adware, and spyware programs that do not have the reproductive ability.
Yes, as you said, a virus ususally is harmful to the system it is installed on. But the ability to transmit itself without human interaction or permission is what makes it a virus. -
There is maintenance every Monday and Friday morning. Has been for a very long time.
Tuesday's maintenance was to publish Issue 16.
Yesterday's maintenance was emergency maintenance to fix a game-breaking Issue. It also happened at 2pm your time, so shouldn't have been n issue from what you said.
There was no maintenance on Wednesday.
Monday and Friday are the only ones that happen regularly, other than patch days and emergency maintenance. -
His most recent posts on the subject said that MOST defense sets (Fire, Ice, Elec, and thorns were all NOT on the list) would be getting "No FX" options for all click and toggle powers, BUT all powers with a "No FX" option will revert to default while you are in a PvP zone or Arena Map, regardless of what customization they may or may not have.

Quote:You've obviously never run into Illusion Patrol, or any of the other similarly named supergroups, where a mix of uppercase I's and lowercase L's allow an entire team of identical characters to have the "same" name.I really don't want to play in a game when I look down the street and 6 or 8 characters have the same name.
It was definitely a "What the...?" moment for me the first time I saw one. -
Quote:All of this was new in Issue 15. Each faction was assigned its own idle emotes inside missions too, so that not every mob was standing there punching its hand 24/7.Yesterday, doing a few Radio missions I was suddenly assaulted by arachnos goons. First time I am ambushed during a Radio mission!
Running through Bloody Bay I spotted the Banished having an 'ambush' where attacking a single zombie suddenly spawns some friends out of the earth.
Fighting Vazhiloks, I see a single reaper with a few cadavers lying at his feet. Spotting me, they rise and attack.
Last night fighting some Lost. I saw a few of them begging for scraps from their brethren with the panhandling emote!
So, did I miss something last issue (most likely as I either was checking out story-arcs in the AE or doing TF's) or did they really improve a few small things like giving more emote options for our opponents?
Either way, I approve!
I didn't hear who was responsible, but it's right up War Witch's alley, so I think it's her doing. -
[Groucho]I thought a blaster and a corpse were the same thing?[/Groucho]
Seriously though, where did "corp" as a shortform for "corruptor" come from? It never made any sense to me. Everyone I know uses "corr". But I digress.
Quote:but, for an AT such as a scrapper with spines/dark, what would you say would be the priority for defense? i was thinking to go with melee first and let my self heal deal with the slight lack of range defense. or, would you think i should try to get aoe, melee and range close to the same numbers?
Ranged and AoE attacks often carry mez effects with them.
Ranged attackers can sometimes deal a LOT of damage by the time you even GET to them, especially if they fly, and you don't.
Your priorities should lay with your play styles. However, remember that every attack has, at most, one positional vector. A ranged AOE ignores ranged defense, and a melee AOE ignores melee defense; both are flagged AOE only. Therefore, it's wise to work on Melee and AOE or Ranged and AOE, if you don't plan on working al three.
That said, a Spines/Dark is usually the kind of character that likes to be in the middle of everything. I'd focus on melee before ranged. -
Quote:No, what you describe may qualify it as malware, or software that damages or destabilizes your system.Considering what AOL's client does to your registry and TCP stack, it SHOULD be considered a virus :\
A virus is merely a program that copies itself from system to system without human involvement. Since you install AOL's client voluntarily, and it doesn't copy itself automatically to other people's systems, it's not a virus. -
Quote:Stalkers have a pitifully low HP cap. If you have accolades and/or +hp set bonuses, you've probably already hit it, without the use of Dull Pain.i got the born in battle accolade today. and i go to hit my dull pain to see how many hp i got. and it's not give me the 700ish hp it sayin it should. in the combat attributes it my max dont move up there also.but it does say that dull pain is on. im a claws regen stalker
EDIT: The wiki says that Stalkers have a base HP of 1204.8, and a HP cap of 1606.4; ie, +33% max HP gets you to the cap. If you've got 1606.4 hp, you're capped. If you're under 50, that link should show you what the cap is at your level. If you're not capped, and Dull Pain isn't providing +hp, then there might be a bug affecting you. -

Quote:The devs have never disclosed drop rates. Any that are known are calculated from extensive testing. That's why the drop rate for purples isn't known - the drop rate is too low for current testing to allow more than a rough estimate. What is the chance of drop? Or in other words how many players would I need to kill to get a drop?
That said, PVP IOs seem to have a drop rate close to that of an orange recipe - which means you need a lot of kills for a "guaranteed" drop. -
Quote:Well, like several others, that's a myth with a grain of truth. Many of those fire/lethal, energy/smashing, etc attacks do have a smashing or lethal attack vector, and for those that do, the S/L defense will help. One common myth (which I see repeated all over the Tanker forums) is that smashing/lethal defense will work against any attack with a smashing/lethal damage component. Whether or not a defense type works against an attack has nothing to do with what damage the attack does, but how it is typed. Fireball, for example, does fire/smashing damage but only checks fire defense because it is typed fire attack, AoE attack.
Of course, the typed attack vectors do not always match damage types, resulting in cases like your Fire Ball. -
And a new-ish one, though I saw variants before i16, thanks to a thread in the badges forum:
If you're farming a defeat <boss> badge, you need to set your difficulty to spawn bosses!
Uh, no. Just like soloing on Heroic, if you're set to "I don't want to fight bosses", the bosses still spawn in according to the regular rules, but they scale down to Lieutenants. And the Lieutenant versions still count for badge credit. -
First: Are you red or blue? If red, what level? I'm not sure Master Illusionists spawn at level 30 (the lowest level for Carnies redside). You may have to get higher level, or have a higher level friend help you.
EDIT: Lrn2reed, noob, he already said he's a brute! The question about level still applies though.
Second: Set your difficulty to:
- Level -1
- No bosses
- equal to 8 heroes/villains
This will make 2-3 bosses spawn in every group of enemies. They will all be downgraded to Lieutenants, but will still be the boss-class enemies. With the level at -1, you should easily be able to clear out the Minions, Lieutenants, and Ring Mistresses.
Once you have a Master Illusionist, aggro it. Avoid hitting it; you don't want it dead. Once it starts summoning, hit all its pets once each before you try to kill any - a pet that despawns on its own still counts for badge credit, as long as you did at least 1 point of damage. Remember that the Dark Servant and Phantasm also count for badge credit now.
Finally, do not set the difficulty to spawn bosses. This will just make things needlessly difficult, as the bosses will still spawn either way, but solo on "no bosses" they will scale down to Lieutenants, with weaker debuffs! -

Quote:Something like the ability to log out in a certain location, and after logging back in, gain a bonus to XP, Inf, Prestige or Salvage rewards on mission complete for a limited time?Or how about an alternate advancement option that allows you to unlock bonuses? Like a SG based one that gives you an additional percentage of Prestige?
Nah, I don't think they'd ever add anything like that to the game. Thbat would be silly. -

Selling fee: 10% of final selling price, only taken if the item item sells. -
In the OP's defense, those notes are absent from the Patch Notes page. It does seem reasonable to expect to see them posted there at the same time as the forum post.

All we know is that it will be either mutation- or natural-themed, and will go into testing sometime after yesterday and before the servers are permanently shut down.

Quote:Once it's live, it doesn't matter if the content originated in Issue 2 or Issue 16, it's Live Content. You post in the same places that you normally would: Technical Issues, Suggestions & Ideas, etc.Is there an official Issue 16 feedback thread started or will there be one, and where will it be located in the forums?
The only time there's official threads for specific content feedback is when that content is in testing. -
Wait, is that how it has always worked? I thought Power Boost and Power Build Up increased the mag of mezzes, just like they boost the strenght of heals, buffs and debuffs. I knew the accolade version only boosted duration, but I thought it was a deliberately weaker version.
-
According to the wiki page on the Carnival, they have three bosses: Master Illusionists, Ring Mistresses, and Dark Ring Mistresses. Unless you're doing a mission that contains a pre-selected boss critter, you should have equal chances for each.
Keep trying. A 1:3 chance of getting a Master Illusionist isn't in your favor, but it's not terrible either. -
Quote:As I said in my earlier reply, Power Build Up (or Power Boost) will make TF stun bosses, but not AVs. It might make it affect EBs, but I'm fairly certain it's not good enough alone.I appreciate the constructive comments. See my reply/question to the prior poster about whether the epic set Power Build Up would likely give the Total Focus attack the boost it needs to be effective.
The intent here was not so much control as to provide a single-shot hard blow when the opportunity presents itself, probably used only once or twice (or only a few times) a battle (depending on how long the fight lasts) given the slow recharge time. If it disorients a major enemy combatant (boss or EV) just for the several seconds(?) the disorient lasts, that's sufficient, as it provides damage mitigation/prevention for the team and in particular for the ones up close fighting the boss/AV.
The electric set itself doesn't provide much apart from the specialty of endurance reduction, which can be moderately effective against the surrounding minions in draining them (especially with the Power Build Up preceding the attack), but not as much against larger bosses and AV with their extremely fast endurance recovery - sometimes they can be fully drained for an instant, but they often very quickly recover enough of a sliver of endurance to keep active. The Power Mastery epic set seems to provide an opportunity to give the defender the occasional shot at a potentially effective attack that can support the team effort. The question here is whether it is feasible with this particular attack. I appreciate the comments so far on this, and your comments will largely determine whether I seriously consider adding this into the respec'd build.
Make sure you take a look at the numbers for PBU before deciding to take it: Because it combines the effects of Power Boost and Build Up, it comes with a HUGE recharge time - possibly long enough for you to decide you don't like it as much. Then again, since you'd have the +damage from aim and PBU, plus the extra stun, it may be worth it.
I personally would grab these powers if I had room in the build, but would not sacrifice anything for them - they seem somewhat situational to me. -
Quote:I'm not really a defender player, so I hope the power is the same as the versions I know.Just how good is the Total Focus as a boss-smiting attack in the Power Mastery epic power set? The description reads "This is a very slow, but incredibly devastating attack that can knock out most opponents, leaving them Disoriented. Due to the exhausting nature of Total Focus, recharge time is very long."
I'm working on respec'ing an empath/electric defender and looking at this particular (Extreme Energy/Smashing) attack as a possible one-shot boss/AV smack backed up by the Power Build Up in the same epic set as well as Aim in the electric blast set.
Would it disorient a boss or even an AV if it hits? And typically what percentage of their hit points?
Or is it a silly idea for an empath/electric defender to even consider this?
Total Focus is a Mag 3 stun. That's enough for a Minion or Lieutenant, but not a boss. Stacking it with other stuns (or itself), or using Power Boost/Power Build Up first will allow it to stun Bosses. Stacking Total Focus with itself would require insane amounts of +recharge and/or +stun duration; it's probably not worth trying.
You will not stun an AV with Total Focus, not even one of the rare ones that lack purple triangles. EB's, I'm not sure, but doubt you could reliably control them with TF.
If you plan on teaming, I would suggest letting the controllers handle the crowd control; some defenders can control, emp/elec isn't the best for that. If you're dead set on contrlling, do it through the -end in elec.
If you're soloing, take TF and slot it up. Once slotted, even a defender should be able to one-hit a minion, and it should lay some serious hurt on a Lt. I'd expect it to take a noticable chunk out of a Boss, but even on a blaster or brute, it won't one-hit a boss.
