Errr - so I suppose this is it?
Four years with NCsoft, over four years playing City of Heroes (mostly Heroes, too; sorry Villains) and I'm leaving one of those things behind. SURPRISE! It's NCsoft.
Yes, today's the last day - in fact, this is the last 20 minutes or so - and I twisted GhostRaptor's arm so that he'd allow me to give one last goodbye. So... goodbye!
Of course it's more 'au revoir' because I'm pretty sure quite a few of you will be following me around even after I leave this place and am no longer privy to the 'best' inside info. Just think of all the stuff I didn't tell you! Ahem. Better keep schtum....
I will of course live on like some sort of hideous zombie, with decaying flesh and yellow teeth, at the blog... just remember to go totheblogmobile.com and you'll find me there.
Okay, time to go, er, better say something profound. Erm; come to our party? Alright alright.
To be serious for one paragraph: City of Heroes, and NCsoft, and most importantly YOU PEOPLE... you all changed my life. You did. You changed my attitude to work, you made me realise what was possible in community and in games and on the web. You did it. Damn you...
... because now I can't give it up, and you'd better believe this is not the last you've seen or heard of me.
Keep it real, heroes. See you on the other side. -
We all appreciate this, I should say, but just FYI - we'll be in the (real life) pub.
However, if you see (most likely) Sky Pirate, Speedstrike or Spectral Knight in-game on Union, then you should totally team with them and give them Inf. Err... because they're... great characters. -

Upon reading the first page, I found myself feeling really bad that I'd not gotten to know Rockjaw better whenever I went to Bristol Comic Cons. I believe it will actually be something that I regret for probably the rest of my life.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ye Gods man! Pick something worth regretting! Somehow I can't see anyone lying on their deathbed going "I wish... I'd gotten to know... that guy from NCsoft... better.... urrrugghgh."
Want to get to know me better? Do what everyone else does and stalk me via the blog or on Facebook.

The only thing I think he ever said to me was 'great picture', when he saw my screenshot about to be sketched in 2007. As you can see, I love this man, because he has taste
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh heh. Well I apologise deeply for not saying more, I was probably busy. Feel free to come to our shindig on the weekend.
Did I just derail the thread again? Sorry GR!! -
[ QUOTE ]
Y'know, rather than online bickering about the Best Way to say goodbye.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hear hear. Besides, if you want to know what we really think about whether or not we should have set up (say) Greek servers, well...
... anyone who's had a beer with me will know that I'm happy to talk on any subject when drinking.
More details to follow, but probably on the blog, not here, so keep eyes peeled. -
Hey guys. This'll be quick mostly as my battery is dying, it's 2:20am, and I don't want to go blundering around in the dark waking the missus up looking for a charger.
I am truly touched, and honoured, to read some of the stuff you guys have said here, both about - er - me, and also about us, being my team (who pretty much ran shows) and the rest of the Community guys.
Just to clarify a couple of things: despite my tendency to hang out here, I don't officially work on COH (Oops: didn't) and truly, never did, at least not solely. I worked on all NCsoft products. However, as (I can't believe I'm saying this) Golden Girl correctly said, COH was the entire reason I came to work here in the first place - so yeah, special place, all that.
Second: GhostRaptor's still here, and I'm sure when he wakes up he'll be in this thread. COH is fine right now. I have every confidence NCNC will keep on rockin' that game. Like Aero, maybe I'll have time to play now.
I don't want to talk about much else here right now, as it might not be prudent to. However my blog's linked in the sig (hint... such a linkwhore) and maybe I'll see you there. -

I ask for a very personal reason. I need to plan it about 8 months ahead as I am a teacher :-O.
[/ QUOTE ]
What, teachers get special treatment now? (Just kidding.)
I'd keep that weekend free if I was you. (Said weekend being Easter 2009.) More than that I can neither confirm nor deny.
Just FYI, unlike this year (when the event wasn't confirmed more than six weeks out as we didn't have it confirmed ourselves!)... assuming it happens... we'll be making sure you all know about it nice and early. -
I think considering how hard everyone worked during Leipzig they deserved a break from the boards for a while.
-
We're not attending BICS this year. Honestly last year wasn't that successful for us.
We're going to Memorabilia and serious planning will start on that from, well, tomorrow actually, now we've gotten through Games Convention.
We've had lots of ideas for a follow-up to the OS MiniCon - we'll see how they pan out, and again, that'll start to move forward very soon.
In the interim, Memorabilia will be even bigger than last year... so worth attending, I'd say. -

Is RockJaw really so evil?

Only on television. -
[ QUOTE ]
More webisodes please, I'd pay for them!
[/ QUOTE ]
Feel free to slip me a fiver then. I'll, er, divide it equally amongst cast members.
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds like you're all really, really gearing up for this one. I'd be interested to know if any of the promotional footage and the like will be online after the convention.
[/ QUOTE ]
There will be footage from the stand, including (we're hoping) a daily video 'vodcast' type thing.
Subscribe to the Blip.tv feed here:

... and you'll get that stuff sent to you automatically in the same resolution it uploads at (ie, better than the Flash encoded versions you're seeing now).
There will probably be new Aion videos at some point too, I've been cutting those together. -
Good Lord. I should have known I'd find such a hotbed of creativity in my own back yard.
For I, too, am in deep with the NaNoWriMo nightmare (everyone who's behind word count surely calls it a nightmare...). Sadly I'm not writing about CoH. Oh, if only I'd thought of that before November 1st, I'd surely be past 50k by now. Nope, it's completely unrelated and as such is coming in fits and starts. As of this morning, erm, something like 14k written I think. Of course deciding to do it on October 30th probably didn't help.
Just think, I'll be losing the last precious weekend in November to bring the message of NCsoft to the masses at Memorabilia... when I could be curled up at home writing! Ah, procrastination's great.
Good luck to all, and to anyone daring to skip the weekend's writing by coming to Memorabilia, you have your opening line - "Hey Rockjaw, how's that word count coming???" -
As I understand it, the magazine has selected their interviewees from this thread and has been in contact with them.
We'll notify you folks when the article goes into print. (Assuming we get told.)
-
Certainly better than I could do.
Good one! -
Well, I managed to almost get to my Christmas dinner before the boards.
Congratulations on managing to turn an innocent thread about a Hamidon raid into an argument about the question of whether someone could organise a Hamidon raid better than someone else. Let that sink in for a moment.
If anyone feels they can organise a Hamidon raid better than anyone else, then go right ahead and organise one. Stop arguing the point. Instead, go out and prove your point. I hope you manage to take him down... perhaps then you can stop arguing about how to get organised to take him down. Sheesh.
In the meantime, due to the overwhelming amount of emails notifying me about this one thread, I'll be locking it now. Apologies to those of you who were trying to discuss your raid (and apologies also for the map crash; yes, there are still stability issues). -
Fair point(s).
We'll review the process in the New Year. -
[ QUOTE ]
The event is not connected to PvP and thats why it will be carried out at a spot away from bases and mobs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Two things.
One: yes, this event is taking place in a PvP zone, and as such, we can't alter the way the zone works just for this event. Everyone taking part in the event needs to be aware that they're in - as the zone says - a 'free fire zone'. You may well be attacked by the opposite side.
Having said that, TG has made it clear that this event is not about PvP. It's a 'Christmas cease-fire'. So, in the spirit of that, I'd ask other players reading this to try and at least honour that spirit of cease-fire. You have 364 other days in the year to kick each other's butts - heck, it might be fun to call off the dogs for a day. (Or even just a few hours.)
[ QUOTE ]
So consider this a warning. If you as much try to harass or disrupt the event then as its been said you know what follows.
If you feel like going up the best PvPers how about stop being a coward and simply issue a challenge and we come and kill you any time of the day.
[/ QUOTE ]
Second: despite all this, I will not allow the Forums to become full of 'smack' talk and slanging matches... while I understand often it's made in fun, others can feel they're being persecuted. So yes, we get the point; some of you want to PvP, others don't. Yelling at each other here won't change either side's intention.
My final advice to those involved: remember it's a PvP zone, so those rules apply; if you feel someone is unfairly 'griefing' then you can /petition them; and while you're free to organise events like this via the Forums, please don't use them to issue persistent threats or warnings. -
Okay, flames off.
Humour is an extremely personal, and subjective, topic, and while I don't want to turn the Forums into somewhere where politically correct topics are the only accepted ones, you're now all off arguing about taste - and that's just going to lead to personal abuse.
Locking this now. Everyone should try and retain both a sense of humour, and a sense of perspective when reacting to / posting humourous 'stuff'. -
[ QUOTE ]
The original post never included any specifics either, and no, they're NOT important, not at this stage
[/ QUOTE ]
One of you believes specifics are important. One of you believes they are. What you have is a difference of opinion.
If someone doesn't want to provide specifics on an idea they're floating, that's fine - but that doesn't mean you should be blasting each other over your failure (or otherwise) to provide something one of you does / doesn't want.
In other words, agree to disagree. Go to separate corners. Shake hands. Group hug. Calm down. -
OK, everyone needs to calm down.
First of all, this thread does include many, many examples of Message Boards Rules being broken (like insulting others, respecting opinions, naming and shaming and more), so I'm locking it for starters.
Second of all, everyone needs to take a step back, take a deep breath, and stop using these boards as an extension of the game. If you enter a PvP zone you are consenting to the possibility of being engaged in PvP combat - whether you like it or not.
If you feel someone is exploiting a bug in the game, then you can and should use the /petition command to report that. This is the only way that we can measure the effect of bugs, balance issues and exploits in-game. We cannot rely on word of mouth via the boards - not everyone visits them, after all. While I can certainly understand and empathise when people get upset, this is not the place to express your anger, and never will be.
Third and finally, you have to respect other people's opinions on PvP, no matter how much you like or dislike them. Tactics that may seem 'unfair' to you will often seem fair to others, and this forum is not a place for you to judge other people.
I do not want to see further threads regarding the usage of TP Foe, or any particular player or group's actions. This forum is for the discussion of PvP, tactics, potential balance issues and similar - it is not for venting, attacking other players or generally bad-spirited discussion.
In other words, calm down and play nice. -
All announced over on that there Announcements board.
