Quote:How often do you ACTUALLY Laugh Out Loud when using LOL?Westley!
Niv was here. Let's not get her to come back for this reason again.
I burst out laughing when I read this - my co-workers wanted to know why - I could only say "inside joke" as none of them play CoH (their loss!).
D_R this is simply spectacular - the mind boggles at the amount of time and effort that must have gone into this.
I picked out a strange moment as my favorite shot - probably unique in this, but I really dug the "red carpet" walk at 2:53 with the limo in the background. You have a wonderful imagination, and WAAAAY too much time on your hands!
Please keep up the incredible "work" - it's very much appreciated.
Edit to add: This YouTube comment made me chuckle, too:

Quote:"When it happens to me" it's the leaders' fault? When it happens to me, I just look for another team as I then realize the previous leader had questionable leadership qualities.
You make it sound like you're being Kicked on a pretty regular basis.
Personally I've never been Kicked from a team in 5 years of play.
If you're being Kicked that often, maybe you should look at your own playstyle instead of blaming faulty leadership?
Personally I'll give up a teammate up to half a mish Idle, if they've been good teammates up to that point.
If someone joins new and immediately goes AFK without a Team Tell first, I'll Kick sooner.
But in both cases the Kick would be preceded by a Private Tell asking if everything is okay. If I don't get a response - I'll Tell a known player to Tell me when they're back for a re-invite - and just forget about the unknown player altogether. -
Totally had a GLEEEE moment when I heard this again, for the first time this season.
Brought back awesome memories of using it to hover in Hollows on my Emp/Rad last year, healing and buffing lowbies, before the Hollows revamp.
I'm also digging the semi-maniacal, yet happy-sounding laughter that echoes through the canyons of the Ski Chalet periodically.
Beyond the seasonal stuff, tho, I think the travel powers, and specifically Super Jump, are probably my most favorite part of the game. Sometimes I just go for Jump-jaunts, parkour-style, seeing how high I can get stringing together bounds off of ever-increasing heights. Steel Canyon is ideal for this.
I also get off on a really synergistic PuG (unlike the gang of misfits I ended up with last night), where you just wanna roll forever and never stop, and the Mission Accomplished sting makes you feel kinda sad, instead of happy.

Haven't gotten Gold yet but I've come pretty close.
The technical aspects already covered (SJ/CJ/SS/IR/NR), can I just say that using basic car-driving/racing game approaches is always good.
i.e. ALWAYS LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.
Never look at the thing you're trying to AVOID HITTING (sides of slope, barriers, obstacles after a jump).
Just glue your eyes to the center strip of slope and try to keep centered up.
Also, if you haven't experimented with different views, do. Try zooming all-the-way in to First Person view. Even if you're not better that way, it does give you a more exciting sense of speed and can be just plain fun!
I've found that zooming in slightly more than I do when I play is best for me, but all the way to first-person is a bit much.
Good luck skiiers! -

The "Throw Snowballs" power was one of my faves from Winter Events past, but I don't see it listed individually on the Announcements page - does it usually show up as a Temp Power from opening gifts 'n such?

Quote:It involves being on your Villain, in a shared Zone (Cimerora, Rikti War Zone, Pocket D), and asking or having someone to Trade with.Anyways the question is how do you do it. Like could you please give me some instructions? Please.
Right-click on them, Invite to Trade.
Trade them a sum of Inf for zero Inf (you give them Inf they give you nothing in return).
Log off your Villain.
Log on your Hero (ideally you've pre-positioned them in the Shared zone to avoid long waits for the person helping you).
Find the person you gave the Inf to, Invite them to Trade.
They give you back your sum of Inf. Ideally you allow them to keep a specified amount in return for helping you.
You can do this with a complete stranger, if they're willing, or set something up ahead of time on your Server Forum here on the Boards. -
Best option is to go to the Forum for your particular Server and post a request for someone to help you facilitate this transfer.
You'll be expected to gift them some inf in return.
I've done this a number of times and have never been ripped off, never been turned down, and have made a few new friends in the process.
(p.s. in your sig: "you're" reading this... you are. "Your" is possessive, your car, your influence) -
From my point of view you've just been unlucky on your PuGing so far.
I say this as someone who almost exclusively forms and runs my own PuGs every night, and modesty-aside they're consistently very well received from everyone involved.
THE REASON I RUN MY OWN PuGs is that in my own experience, joining existing teams has always been hit-or-miss.
Sometimes you get a leader/group who really know what they're doing, are fun and chatty (not to the detriment of the mission), and won't get discouraged by an occasional faceplant or teamwipe.
Sometimes you get the Leader who Invites, waits 10 mins. before putting up the mish, never communicates, and Quits at the first sign of difficulty.
My advice to you, and it's coming at a good "age", when you're still new and open to learning and improving: Start forming and running your own PuGs. Do it NOW.
It can be *slightly* stressful at first, but like anything, the more you do it, the better at it you will get, and the more fun it will be, and in the end you can guarantee a good time for all, if you're doing it right.
I run my PuGs from the mindset of a PuG-joiner. Here are approaches that have been working well for me:
-NEVER use Blind Invites (/bind L "tell $target, Level $level-ish team LFM - join us?"). I can CONSISTENTLY form 8-man PuGs in *under 5 minutes* using this bind and the Team Search window.
-No one is EVER invited without the mish being set FIRST.
-I take TP on all my TP-capable toons to facilitate my PuGers' travel and keep the pace up.
-I communicate and guide the team, without being Bossy (I hope). [e.g. select your tank/Kheld/meatshield in the Team window and (/macro RG "REGROUP on $target now please!") if team gets Split]
-Use "gratz", "welcome!", and "ok thanks g'night!" religiously.
-Choose the next mish immediately on Exit, or explain why you haven't ("hitting contact stand by for mish...").
-As a specific response to your concern about keeping the PuG on track - IT'S ALL RELATIVE to the team's success/kill rate. If that Scrapper wants to be off by themselves doing their own thing, and they're not causing their own death or teammate deaths, or slowing the pace of the mission too much - LAY OFF. If they're causing headaches - CRACK DOWN.
If the team is split, but each group is doing okay on their own - lay off. If they split and teamwipe - crack down.
If the Controller is locking down the mob before they're well-grouped, but not causing deaths or slowing the team (and the tank isn't getting annoyed), lay off, but a Private Tell with a polite suggestion to count to 3 before locking-down, isn't out of the question.
Etc.
I know many players don't like having the star. I think I understand why. But if you try it, and keep at it, Leading becomes second-nature, and is the only sure-fire way to avoid bad PuGs. It's also a sure-fire way to control the pace of the mission, if that's your goal.
In my experience a team will respond very well to polite guidance or requests (i.e. leadership), if they can tell the Leader knows what they're doing.
Give it a shot. Do it early, get really good at it, and I guarantee it will make your CoX experience much, MUCH more enjoyable over the long run.
And if you're on Freedom, look me up, and I'll give you a taste. -
Quote:I do this all the time to get exploration badges from mayhems so I can get Invader. I just get a friend to sit inside the mission while I relog. I have 26 characters so I can knock out all but I think two of the level ranges just by getting mayhems on various characters.
You have a friend that will sit there and wait as you log out and in two dozen times...for a badge?
You have nice friends. -
I also agree with Samuel and those who say it's all worth it - I wouldn't go back to the old way for a million inf.
And no, it's not THAT hard to glance at the Health/End/buffs bars, but like everything, it's relative.
Is it "harder" than *not* having to glance at all? Sure. Is it game-alteringly difficult or annoying? Of course not.
In my OP I really had in mind that sub-conscious level of hearing and seeing powers firing off, powers landing, enemies dropping, and you just *know*, without having to check any bars, that things are progressing smoothly and everyone's doing their part.
If it takes me a fraction of a second, then, after seeing a black disc expanding off a baddie, to decipher Was that Transfusion or Transference? *glance at bars - End is still kinda low - Health is topped off - that was Transfusion*...well OMG that took a whole fraction of a second!Totally NOT a big deal, but a bigger deal than if I didn't have to think about it at all.
So, I just wanted to throw this out there for thought and discussion, and we've gotten good feedback on both sides of the debate. -
Quote:Are you guys speaking in Portuguese? I hear that's a tough language to understand.NO U!
Ahem, <shaking of 4chan>, not when you use Zombie Skin for the forum which forces a fixed font for the code tag. However, for those who see the forums in their original ugliness, I changed the font to fixed. -
So I'm loving the ability to change Power colors, I've seen some really great (and some really awful) changes.
But could I just ask players to at least *consider* not tampering *too much* with Heals and +End buffs?
Vet players (those who've been around long enough to grow accustomed to the various cues) use the audio and visual cues as an almost-subconscious gauge of team health, success, and potential for success.
When I'm being periodically bathed in a sea of green or blue, I know without even looking up from the fight, that my Health and End are in good shape and don't need near-constant monitoring.
For me, it allows me to focus on, and enjoy, the action more.
Again, not making demands or saying other colors are BAD, just asking peeps to think about the potential effects on other players' gaming, before switching their green heals to black, white, or plaid, or whatever.
In this specific case it can have more of an impact than just whether it's pretty or not. -

Maybe you need more question marks? Four may not be enough.

I think OP has been adequately answered, just wanted to update with my latest experiences...
Ran a couple of incredibly synergistic 8-man PuGs this past weekend on Freedom, never had any trouble forming the teams or keeping them full over the course of about a 4-hour run.
Just this morning, logged in and had a full 8-man team up-n-running in under 4 minutes with NO BLIND INVITES.
This was before noon Eastern, on a Wednesday.
Granted I may have benefited from school closings due to the Midwest blizzard, but overall I find this game very healthy, and teaming very easy, fun, and rewarding.
Thanks to all the heroes who've made my last few PuGs so outstanding. If you were running with Cougarific, Dismael, or Ms. Illkin as your lead, you all did a really super job, and were tons of fun. -
Okay Agge, that's what I figured I'd end up having to do (a rotating bind).
Thanks for the spoon-feed (I really DID look through that thread and used Search and everything - I swear!)
One question tho, re: loading the bindfile, do I have to do that every time I log on with my flyer? -
Tapping twice will get me where I want to be? (on the ground)
That's incredibly easy, what a waste of time & effort looking for another way!
*headdesk* -
Quote:Thanks F_W - it looks like you're saying it IS possible to have all three on one key, using the toggleon/toggleoff command. That second bind will not work, and the first one will probably be unreliable. Instead of powexec_name, you should use powexec_toggleon and powexec_toggleoff.
Okay I'll keep digging using that as a Search clue. -
Hey I've been doing my homework in the Player Guides section, but I'm still a little confused.
I'm trying to get Fly/Hover/off all on one key.
From the Guides:
Quote:So I understand that this is turning on/off Sprint, but that doesn't cut you out of Fly/Hover does it?TheUnnamedOne says:
“/bind f "powexec_name Sprint$$powexec_name Fly$$powexec_name Hover"
What it does is turn off your Sprint whenever you hit it (to save Endurance while Flying/Hovering) and then toggles between Fly and Hover. If both are off, Hover will come on first. This is REALLY handy in a fight if you are Hovering and need to gain some distance. One key will switch you to Fly to gain distance and then the same key will switch you back to Hover. I made this next one to go along with the previous one:
/bind lshift+f "powexec_name Fly$$powexec_name Hover$$powexec_name Sprint"
Since the first one ("F") ALWAYS turns off Sprint, the second one ("lshift+F") will always activate it if you use these together. When I'm done with a fight where I was hovering/flying I'll just hit LShift+F to land and start Sprinting again. “
Quote:When I'm done with a fight where I was hovering/flying I'll just hit LShift+F to land and start Sprinting again.
I know I can make two rotating binds that do this, but is there an easier way? The Guides just left me scratchin' mah heed. -
What was up on Freedom this weekend?!?
Ran a series of just astoundingly good PuGs on Friday and Sunday.
Everybody knew their roles and played them with remarkable skill and good humor.
Just wanted to shout out to my PuGgers, especially those two Scraps who kicked total butt as the core of my PuG, on a more-than 2-hour run.
Was able to put together, and keep together, 8-man PuGs in no time (no Blind Invites, mind you), and the synergy was really awe-inspiring.
If you were running with Cougarific, Dismael or Ms. Illkin as PuG-leader this weekend, THANK YOU SO MUCH, you've renewed my faith in this incredible game, and player-base.
Keep up the GREAT WORK, heroes! -
I'm also gonna say single-core is an unlikely offender. I've never played on anything BUT a single-core processor, and have never had frame-rate issues except for during Invasions.
I'm running silky-smooth with an AMD 3500+, in 1050x1680, and recently upgraded to a new 512k video card, but even before the upgrade, CoH was one of the few games I could play at max settings without any noticable slowdown.
Wish I could offer more help, but I'm gonna GUESS you need a better video card. I'd be shocked if your single-core was the problem. -
Quote:This may be a better solution than what I tried - for my only melee character, a Shield/Mace tanker, I bound my normal attack buttons with follow$$(tray 1 2 or whatever) so every attack would automatically Follow first, then attack.I have a five button mouse which i love, for melee toons i always bind the button4 (right under my thumb) to follow.
But I find it messes with the camera too much, as the camera swings behind your char everytime you hit Follow.
So I may be trying to look around and keep an eye on other team members or threats, but keep snapping back to default camera with every attack. -
It's also the busiest travel day of the year in the U.S., I imagine many people who would normally be playing are traveling for the holiday.
