Quote:And you'll notice I didn't say "the Battle Maiden fight". I said the two new task forces, which contain quite a bit more than the Battle Maiden fight. They are also more challenging if you are trying to earn the badges they contain, since some of those badges require you to either eschew beneficial allies (such as the drones in the Kings Row invasion) or face highly buffed AVs (Kitty's Got Claws).
Well I've done both TFs and have had an easier time with them than the LRSF. In fact, I've gotten the MoApex, inadvertently too since I wasn't going for it and had even warned my team to not give up as the BM fight might be a bit long. The only badge I'm missing for MoTM is Midnight Dodger, but that's the only badge that requires excessive pre-planning. And I'm fine with that, at least one of the badges should be hard. Kitty's Got Claws is tough, but only because of yet another round of huge numbers thrown at us in the game. In my opinion, the drone badges don't make that battle all that much tougher, since the drones only seem to affect the Clockwork who are a cakewalk to begin with. -
They may wish that to be the case, but it simply isn't. My brute has never been on a team that steamrolled the Freedom Phalanx in the LRSF. In fact, the last attempt had us wipe three times before finally winning against them. Yet, the Battle Maiden fight isn't hard, it isn't frustrating, nor is it impossible. It's fun, it's challenging, and completely doable. In fact, I think it's easier than the last fight in the LRSF because it requires tactics more than piling debuffs.

Quote:That doesnt always work. Been there done that. The patch kills you as soon as you come out the door. And where are yall getting this 8 second warning thing from, its way less than that from what I can tell. Maybe 4 seconds at most before the patches start doing damage. Given that the door roots you for 3 seconds you wont always have time to get away.
Actually, it does give you plenty of time to move. Let's say your team completely wipes during Phase 3 when BM is putting out four halberds at once. Since no one is down below, the first person to go in will automatically get targeted, giving that person, let's say not 8 seconds, but as a fact, at least 5 seconds. Plenty of time to move away. But again, all it takes to avoid the door of death is communication. Ask your team mates, is it safe? And no, communication is not too much to ask of an endgame TF. If you have no team mates down there, it's safe anyways. You'll be rooted for 3 seconds, giving you at least 2 seconds to move away. Sprint and Swift will clear that. -
I figured if a defensive set being bashed for typed defense (I was admittedly wrong), why would I want to focus my bonuses on typed defense? Shoot for the gold and go for positional. To me that's entirely logical, I'm still playing around Mids' to see if I can get capped typed defense, but it seems the only one that gets close (as close as melee got on my original build) is Smashing/Lethal.
-
Well the reason I went after positional defense is because of all the criticisms that Energy Armor gets for being typed defense. True, I have to sacrifice slots on some powers that would greatly benefit from them, but I haven't noticed too much of a detractor. I do remember giving slots to Lightning Field, but that was when it could take taunt sets (and therefor psychic damage procs).

Quote:And don't you ever let anyone tell you that you need a specific team composition to win the Apex TF. I've done it on melee heavy teams, I've done it with a single corruptor, I've done it with 3 tanks. Anyone saying that this requires perfectly calculated and specific ATs and powersets is not being truthful.Given the premises that all competent builds (e.g. not the semi-mythical "pure healer" or "man" builds) are supposed to be capable of soloing standard content and that TFs are not supposed to require particular team construction, "ranged builds sometimes have an advantage" fails.
Quote:My god Heraclea, the entire BM fight gimmick is "here's some blue stuff, don't be here in 8 seconds." It's not some horribly subtle thing that has to be timed, nor is it something that if one player misses it, everyone wipes and the whole show is over. It's trivial to avoid and doesn't result in melee characters being useless. -
Quote:Benchpresser:
So you figured out how to avoid the patches. Great. How much were you able to actually contribute to the TF after that? Or were you just a warm body, or even a "leech"?
Most of my characters slated to become incarnates are melee. I would like to bring more to the fight than taunts and my Nemesis staff.
Again, the only character I've done Apex on is my Dual Blades brute. Dual Blades depends not only on single hard hitting attacks, but getting combos off. I'm hardly a twitch gamer and a mechanic that gives 8 seconds warning is a far cry from anything "twitch". I can still manage to get Blinding Feint + the Attack Vitals combo on Battle Maiden without taking a single point of nanite damage. It's not hard, it doesn't require expert movement, all it requires, and this is what I tell all of the Apex TFs I lead, is awareness. Every Apex TF I lead hardly has a powergamer's ideal team, and without exception, it always has at least two people who have never done it before. We still succeed. Again, the key to the fight is not speed, not movement, simply awareness. -
Quote:I'm well aware of speed runs doing LGTF or ITF in 20-30 minutes, but I've never been on them. My average for both is 50 minutes to an hour and change. My average for both Apex and Tin Mage is an hour and change. So timewise, they take the same. But here comes the rewards, for the LGTF or ITF I get a choice of a common incarnate component or 36/26 merits respectively, while for Apex and Tin Mage, it's true, I don't get a choice, but I get both 40 Merits AND 2 Incarnate Shards. With a toon that already has stockpiled common, uncommon components, and shards, I know which one I'll be choosing reward wise, and it isn't a pre-i19 TF.Part of why its not run much is because its way too short. I was expecting the Tf to be at least 5 or 6 missions. Second is fighting 54s is a huge waste of time in terms of rewards over time. Why go thru that when you can easily do an easier TF thats longer and has better rewards for the time spent. I get that they are using the 54s and the debuff to make things harder but to me thats not how they should have done it. It just slows down things more than they should.

Quote:Every single time I advertise for the Apex TF, I have to turn people away (I do a first come, first serve, damn the AT and powerset). If people "hate" these TFs, I haven't seen it.Just for fun I went around to several servers last night during "prime time"; Freedom, Triumph, Virtue and Infinity.
Apex and Tin Mage sat alone while Lady Grey and Imperious had plenty of company with people lined up to do their TFs.
I think that speaks volumes on what the average player thinks about Apex and Tin Mage, as opposed to the vocal minority of Muchkin power gamers on these forums who've propped up these two disasters.
May the i19 TFs and the devs "new development direction" be swiftly ignored, fall into obscurity and forgotten like the Shard TFs and other wastes of development resources. -
Actually, that's a misconception. During Phase 1, she spawns a single Halberd area around her. During Phase 2, she spawns three Halberd areas, randomly choosing her targets. And during Phase 3, she spawns four areas. I've had one spawned on me even while I was running around, and have stood still for 15+ seconds without being targeted by a halberd.

Quote:I run PUG Apex all the time, whether I lead them or not. Of about 9 tries, I've succeeded 8 times. My latest attempt even got me the Master of Apex WITHOUT even going for it. My team consisted of the following:Pretty simple on my end...I'll try the new content and if it's fun/completable by a pug, I'll repeat it. If it becomes a case of banging your head against a wall and just repeated party defeats, we'll move on.
So far, groups I've been asked to team with have ignored Apex and kept running Tin Mage and the regular task forces.
Basically, players just want a fresh coat of paint on old methods and content, not necessarily new, challenging content.
2 Brutes
1 Scrapper
1 Tank
2 Warshades
1 Blaster
1 Corruptor (Dark/Dark/Soul or Dark)
Again, all PuGs. I don't run with premade teams, mostly because of my antisocial nature and not being part of any "cliques" or circles. I've also run it with the following makeups:
A team composing of 3 Tanks and on another occasion, a team consisting of 3 Masterminds. I've also completed it without anyone having taunt at all (no tank) and in a team with 6 meleers. I've even completed it where a player didn't have a boost on his alpha slot, making him -4; granted he was a mastermind so his pets were still 50 and his only power having a to-hit check being Twilight Grasp.
Anyone who tells you the Task Force is hard is unwillingly to adjust their playstyle, plain and simple. They refuse having to adapt to perfectly fair new mechanics. Yes fair, this coming from a player whose main is a Dual Blades brute. -
I too did not always agree with your choices (such as not proliferating Illusion to Dominators), like everyone (who matters) else, I enjoyed reading your posts whether it was explaining the workings of the game or your opinions in the Comic Culture section. You'll be missed.

Hello everyone, I created my Dual Blades/Electric Armor Brute the first day of Issue 11 and I loved her. She became my main, and my first 50 (after over 2 years of no 50s). But the lack of ways to improve her without IOs had me shelving her. With Issue 19, I decided to dust her off and redicovered why I loved her. Now with her Alpha slot, I found her to be impressive and decided to go all the way. I respeced, got rid of the single purple enhancement which I crafted from the only recipe I've ever gotten and got most of this build set.

Code:Well, as I said earlier, I'm almost done with this set. The last few things left, are sadly, the most expensive. The PvP Def IO, 5 pieces of the Numina set, as well as 5 pieces of the Aegis set and 1 piece from two of the Obliterates. I'm not entirely set on the Aegis, I may go for another Titanium coating, leaving my resistances to take care of the stray AoE. Which are some ways on improving upon this? I was able to handle two +0/x8 missions without using inspirations, one was CoT and one was Rikti. The Rikti have never been a problem to begin with, but the CoT mission had me dying once at the very end. That means that playing the game regularly with insps, I probably can handle +1 or +2. Quote:The new TFs are AWESOME. That is all.
Only slight problem I have with two of the encounters (Director 11 & Battle Maiden) is that their regen should be SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. When I've done this with 1-2 players with -regen, no problems. When I've done this without, even with significant buffs (bubbles, stormies) it's been difficult to keep the AVs burned down.
That will probably change if we eventually get a level shift.
I always keep a handy Envenomed Dagger around on my brute. Sure -250% regen isn't something to brag about, but it's something. It's also ranged, so even melee characters can chug 'em if Battle Maiden refuses to leave the area of one of her halberds of death. I didn't find any particular problems with the regen of Director 11 even the successful Tin Mage team I was on only had a kin for -regen. And myself, and one other melee who also mentioned using the dagger. -
I just led my very first Apex TF (and only TF I've lead in about a year). The makeup was:
Me (Dual Blades/Elec Armor Brute)
Scrapper (MA/SR?)
Warshade
Defender (?/Kin)
Defender (Rad/Emp)
Defender (Rad/Emp)
Blaster (Elec/?)
Blaster (?/?)
Sure, I had three defenders, but only one person to increase our damage output leaving us a little under my preferred damage output. But I decided I wasn't going to turn anyone down, it'd be a first come first serve.
We successfully completed the task force. There were deaths, sure, several of my team mates had never done it before (and I myself was part of only one previous run, which failed to killed Battle Maiden). It took us an hour and 15 minutes to finish it, which isn't bad. Sure it's no speed run, but that wasn't my goal.
In the end, I have to say, the Battle Maiden fight is fine. It takes a little getting used to, but I was able to finish my Attack Vitals combo without taking damage from her halberds. -
Quote:You know how we as Incarnates should deal with being shot at from orbit?
This:

Heaven forbid we're allowed to be proactive against these attacks and stop them. Nope, we have to react and run around like idiots dodging them.
.
When I did the Apex TF, my Dual Blades/Electric Armor brute never once dodged an orbital beam from the War Walkers. She barely even flinched at the damage. Unless you're talking about Battle Maiden's Javelin attack, in which case I'm confused as those aren't orbital, but they do royally suck. Specially, on my first run, where I badly mistimed my 1k Cuts attack. That was really painful. -
Quote:The JRPG I'm thinking of which only follows the flowchart till the amnesia part (no festival no nothing) has a main character who fights with his fists, sleep spells work surprisingly well (just not on bosses), the main lead female has heal spells, but her offensive spells are much more kick *** but even still, her physical attacks are best (though she does has a baton/rod, not a staff) , and the party has the following, a 30-something master swordsman, a 30-something grand champion wrestler, a 3000 year old nanomachine colony (admittedly taking the form of a teenage girl who, following a sidequest, changes her appearance to an older female). Granted, there are still four teenagers, a 10 year old girl (who rides the biggest mech of all), and an animal.Trust me, there were a few exceptions, but you didn't miss much.
My version of explaining JRPGs: The main character has a sword, Sleep spells never work, the lead female is always a healer with a staff, and 16 year old kids are better at combat than even the most battle hardened space-marine.
The End. -

Lemmings, contrary to belief, don't commit mass suicides. They commit mass exoduses because they've devoured their food sources to near total depletion. Whatever cliff or ocean is in their way is only seen as an obstacle in their path, they don't realize they're about to die. -

-Vision of Escaflowne: I give the series a big +1. If you haven't watched it, I say do so now. But sadly, I found the movie to be lacking so I can't recommend the movie.
-Fullmetal Alchemist: Despite the fact that the original series diverged from its source material, I like it. Another +1. To be honest, I preferred the way the series did the homunculus than the manga.
-Trinity Blood: I liked Trinity Blood and will give another +1. Although I do realize it might not be everyone's cup of tea as it can be kinda slow.
-Ghost in the Shell: I liked the first series, and give it a +1. I cannot comment on neither the movie nor second series as I have not watched them yet.
-Bleach: I like the manga and the part of the series that stick to the manga source, but the vast amounts of filler make me give it a -1. It could have easily been a plus, but they decided to keep those stuffed toy characters in the series. No matter how small their role is, they just destroy any scenes they're in.
-Death Note: It will probably be enjoyable for people who haven't read the manga, but for me, I read the manga first and since this is a non-action series (no matter how epic Light's penmanship may be), I couldn't stand to watch something I already know how it ends. And that's bad for a story that's main draw is the resolution. Despite all of this, I give it a +1 anyways.
-Rurouni Kenshin: I haven't completed the series, but I liked what I saw and it kept me intrigue to watch more (eventually). +1
-Read or Die: (I'm talking about the OVA here) I loved it, the action was fast paced, the historical characters used added a little umph for me. Another +1.
-Grave of the Fireflies: Nothing needs to be said, just a gigantic +1.
-FLCL: It made absolutely no sense to me and I love it for that reason alone. Well that and it's short, +1.
-Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: I don't think I've laughed so hard because of an anime series as I have with this one. +1
-Claymore: I would certainly qualify this one as action. There is some drama, but the main focus is action. I give it a +1, despite hating the ending. But I may be biased as the manga is still going on.
-Elfen Lied: Horror? Not really, more like, as someone else put it on these forums, amputee porn. But looking past its gore and nudity, I liked the story. Humans are evil. +1
-Spirited Away: +1. Own it and watch it a lot. If I could have it in Spanish subtitles/dub, I would have my parents watch it too.
-Howl's Moving Castle: I liked what Hayao did with this English tale. +1
-Saint Seiya (aka Knights of the Zodiac): I can't believe no one has mentioned this one. The bad guys aren't bad for the heck of it, they have ideals that they must uphold. They have promises they have to keep. Despite having a vast amount of characters (maybe even more than Bleach with all of its Captains, Vice Captains, Espada and Fraccions combined), it touches upon their stories such that when they (unlike Bleach) die, you feel the loss. It is long (close to or over 200 episodes) but I loved every minute of it, even the filler because it was done in the story telling style of the manga. +1 -
It is obvious our Psychic Friends Network needs more funding. If those Resistance hooligans would have it their way, we'd be taken over by some ancient evil masks, the insidious plant matter would infest our pristine city, or 'disappear' into some corporation's closet.

My fellow Loyalists, remember to help stamp out any renegade thoughts of chaos within our pristine city walls. As powerful as our Psychic Friend Network is, the rats know how to hide themselves very well.
